Studying at Manchester Metropolitan University has been quite the journey. From the first time I walked through the All Saints Campus, I was struck by the blend of historic architecture and modern facilities. The bustling energy of the Student Union, with its diverse range of clubs and societies, has been invigorating. I've had the privilege of attending lectures from passionate professionals who not only have extensive knowledge in their fields but also a genuine interest in our growth as students. The mix of theoretical and practical sessions has deepened my understanding and appreciation of my chosen field. Outside of academics, I've cherished the moments spent exploring Manchester. there's always something happening in this vibrant city. The diverse student community here has also enriched my experience. Engaging in conversations with peers from all over the world has broadened my perspectives and given me lifelong friendships.

What is Manchester like?
Manchester is one of the UK’s best cities for students. It is a diverse and thriving city, blending a rich industrial past with a trailblazing future. There are people of all ages and all cultures building their lives here. But at its heart, the city retains a proud and distinctly Mancunian identity. The different districts of the city are like individual villages, easy to get around, and within walking distance of each other. Each part of town has its own character, ambience and particular tribes. Manchester is a truly exhilarating place to come and learn – no wonder so many people stay here after they’ve finished studying.
Student Life
The city of Manchester has something for everyone, from history and culture to nightlife and shopping. It’s easy to get around the city with the extensive public transport system. Best of all, the university’s campus is only a ten-minute walk from the city centre. With shops and restaurants nearby, life around campus is lively and exciting. The University’s student accommodation is located on campus or nearby, with the majority of accommodation is no more than a few minutes walk from teaching and learning facilities. The Student’s Union is conveniently located on campus and provides students with a bar, shop, café and event venue. It is also the home to over 150 clubs and societies which are available for all students to take part in.
Q&A
Thanks for getting in touch. You can find information about graduate opportunities as well as IOSH membership on the Career Prospects screen of the MSc Occupational Safety, Health and Environment course webpage. It may also be worth you referring to the IOSH website for further guidance, as well as the government webpage regarding graduate visas: https://www.gov.uk/graduate-visa. I hope this helps.
Hi there,
Thank you for your query and interest in Manchester Metropoltan University.
With regards to career prospects and opportunities, many of our graduates begin their careers in new product development. You could work in a variety of roles across the food and nutrition industry though, in areas such as quality and food safety, food manufacturing, food marketing and technical management. Some of the roles you could pursue include food production manager, food technologist, consumer care manager, technical manager, food buyer, and legal compliance officer.
With regards to the practical and theoretical saspects of the course, there is a balance. You’ll have days with a mix of lectures, seminars and practical sessions (such as product development in our food technology laboratories), so that you develop technical skills as well as academic knowledge of food science and in other seminar sessions/workshops, you’ll learn how to promote food safety through quality management systems, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). This is so that you understand how to meet the legal responsibilities of food business operations in producing safe products, as well as the quality requirements of your customers. I can confirm that there will however be no practical assessment with 95% being assessed via coursework and 5% being assessed by examination.
You are more than welcome to contact the programme leader, Andrew Hollingsworth at a.hollingsworth@mmu.ac.uk should you have furhter questions related to the programme. Should you wish to see the prospectus page where you can view a breakdown of the course modules, please visit: MSc/PgDip Food Science and Innovation · Manchester Metropolitan University (mmu.ac.uk)
I hope that this has been helpful,
Luke :)
Hi there,
Thank you for your query and interest at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Please note that we do not have a placement component as part of our MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine programme. Please also note that all applicants must be qualified clinicians. How practical the course will be is dependent on the various units that the student undertakes. Should you have further queries regarding how practical a certain unit is after reading our modules in the overview section, you are welcome to contact the current programme leader, Cari Thorpe at m.thorpe@mmu.ac.uk.
For information on course specifics and a breakdown of the units, you are welcome to see our prospectus page here: MSc/PgDip/PgCert Sport and Exercise Medicine · Manchester Metropolitan University (mmu.ac.uk)
I hope that this has been helpful.

Why brooks is so far away... Teaching staff are very nice and help!
Not bad but not good. Big campus with nice view in brooks
At MMU the experience has been overwhelmingly positive thanks to the genuinely caring and attentive tutors. They consistently demonstrate a high level of effort in supporting students. Additionally, the students' union is active and engaging, with a good website that keeps informed about the ongoing activities, ensuring there's always something to participate in. The library's offers a lot of seating, making it an ideal study spot and to add it is always so warm in there with good heating. The campus atmosphere is friendly and inviting, with the university itself situated on a long, bustling road filled with a variety of dining options and activities to enjoy during breaks. This vibrant setting enhances the overall student experience, making it a lively and enjoyable place to be.
Good facilities, helpful staff.

They take great care of parcels and promptly address maintenance issues. The laundry facilities are straightforward, making life easier. However, the gym is well-equipped enough, but it would be good if they invested more into it, to make it a great place for fitness enthusiasts who value their workout routines. Overall, the attention to safety, maintenance, and amenities like the gym and laundry facilities make living here a great experience.
