The accommodation is in a great location, the social spaces are superb and staff are excellent. The maintenance and cleaning of the building is amazing. The only fault is how expensive the same room is next year, which is far too much. I also hope that academic year stays could be requested, so I don't have to pay for a room over summer that I will not use.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Currently paying around £200 a week this is increasing to around £300 from sept 2024 (cant imagine any issues being fixed or any improvements worth that increase) have had nightmare with staff availability, lost parcels, dangerous electrics in social areas, rooms are tiny, showers are near impossible to move in, events are catered more to international students, rooms were dirty and walls were scuffed when we moved in, chair was stained, staff let themselves in rooms months after mentioning room checks (i know its still notice but surely they should have to keep the time between notice and entry within a reasonable timeframe), lift railings are not secure or safe, washing situation especially the driers tore holes in all my clothing do to a mineral build up on the backs of the drums leaving sharp rusty spikes. Staff specifically Han are incredible and kind

There is never anyone on reception which is diabolical considering the amount of money students pay. There have been countless days we’re the reception has been left unattended for hours on end. This is unacceptable.

Lived at artisan for 2 years and has been good socially and location wise but it is so overpriced for no reason as there is nothing special about the flats and rooms. Reception team is rude as well as unhelpful and have no care for the students they are supposed to look after. Only good member of their team is Eric on night staff, that man needs a raise.

excellent helpful and friendly staff. Bit expensive for what it is, rooms could be bigger. An outside amenity could be a nice addition to the building

Remmi and Eric are great staff and we can always go to them for help and advice and they keep us safe at night. However the price for it is over priced for it. The maintenance staff also takes ages to fix things.

Rooms are small for the price and the social side isn’t the best but most of the staff are amazing, especially Eric and the facilities management is on point.

This accommodation is highly overpriced for what it is- I am currently paying £190 per week. I'm in a classic ensuite room and the first thing I said when I walked into my room the first time was how small it was. The photos make it look the rooms look much bigger than what they actually are. The location is handy but other MMU accommodations such as Cambridge and Cavendish are only a further 5 minute walk away from city centre. Oxford Road train station being literally on the doorstep has been very handy for me personally as I can get a train directly to the airport from this station in under 30 minutes for when I fly home. The staff are pretty much clueless and can be quite rude, there's not enough washers for the capacity of the building and nearly half of them are not working all the time anyway and when you go to reception they have no idea how to fix them. Other accommodations offer more or less the same thing for much cheaper. Don't waste your money on this place.
