Really good course options with placements to help find work after university."
Hello! Im really glad to hear the positive comments about our course options and opportunities to go on placements whilst studying with us. At every level of study our focus on applied learning gives our students the skills and knowledge employers want. In our undergraduate courses we incorporate a work experience module each year – and if you do a placement year you get an applied professional diploma as well as your degree, so we feel that as you say the opportunities we provide are there to really boost our students to help them enter straight into the job market when they graduate.
Poor communication and quality of teaching throughout my final year studying computer networks, my project supervisor failed to reply to multiple emails asking for meetings to help with my project which were mandatory to complete the dissertation, he followed this with a 31 day personal holiday IN TERM TIME, on top of participating in 2 strikes, he continued to acknowledge the fact i emailed him but with no replies after chasing him up on it and because of his lack of guidance and support which every other supervisor gave their students i ended up failing my dissertation and going back to him for guidance on my resubmission he asked me to stop emailing him and email someone else as he wanted a summer holiday. I would recommend going elsewhere as their treatment for students are POOR

My course has been good so far and our employability adviser has been really helpful. I found my way around campus quite easily.

I'm in the Head Post Office Arts building mostly and it's great. Seems to be a good amount of support for people who need it and my building is well equipped. Also there's a useful 24/7 library.

We are glad you feel supported at Hallam, we have 3 dedicated advisers looking out for each student. Brilliant experience, teaching staff are incredible and will go out of their way to support you. Variety of learning styles to suit everyone and have adapted to COVID very well. Student union are great always have events on

University is pretty average, the lectures/classes are good but the clubs aren’t great.

Societies are ran by the Student's Union and there is a broad range, you can even set up your own. Our sports clubs are ran by the univerisity and involve both competitive and casual sessions. I am sorry to hear you feel the clubs aren't great, is there anything in particular you would change? - Ella

The facilities are good, careers service are helpful, there's job events every now and then. And the university is really diverse and welcome for international students.

I really liked the uni before their response to COVID-19 and the mental health of their students. the facilities are great, teaching is good mostly, but it's apparent they don't care about the success or mental wellbeing of their students

Haven’t had any issues yet other than 2 lots of strikes and the coronavirus. I’m only in first year but 2nd and 3rd years aren’t getting the support they need during lockdown.

The university has 2 campus'. They offer a wide variety of clubs and societies and the wifi is great so study there is reliable.

meh, is all I can say, it's not terrible but doesn't offer almost 10k a year in services to its students, I'd go for a uni that actually does things to help its students

old buildings with the old library. very unorganized uni staff you need to find everything by yourself.

Overall a great university. The facilities generally go above and beyond although some things are slightly outdated. The social side of things has been amazing.

Ok, currently the strike action has ruined my final year at the university which is effecting my mental health and the chances of me passing my degree, staff haven’t put any extra classes on to replace the ones missed (exactly 2 months worth) and we’re not getting our money back...

We are applying a 'no detriment' approach to marks and grades to ensure no student will be disadvantaged as a result of the action the University has had to take in response to COVID-19. I know it musn't be easy, it might be worth reaching out to your dedicated student support advisor or Hallam Help for some further guidance on how to improve your mental health while studying from home. I have just finished my first year at Sheffield Hallam University. I have met some great people and am thoroughly enjoying my course and time spent here. The University has some great features such as it's library with an amazing Bloomberg suite. In addition, the university also has a super nice student union, where they serve some great food, and offer some good deals.

Worst university in the UK. Support services are a joke, lecturers don't care. The campus is dreadful and messily laid out with stinky carpets. There's no where near enough seating in the library or anywhere else. The food is expensive and gross. The Internet is slow and times out. The toilets always stink vile.

Each student has 3 dedicated support advisors looking out for them to approach for advice on anything to do with their wellebing, academic or employability. If you do not think you are recieving the relevant advice then you can contact someone at Hallam Help hallamhelp@shu.ac.uk on to see if they can arrange for you to speak to a different advisor. Our libraries are often very busy particuarly durign exam periods which is why we have added study spaces in other buildings around the campus, if you don't know where these are then you can ask at the Hallam Help desk and they will happily point them out to you. If you want to report any issues with uncleanliness you have expierienced on campus please also report this to Hallam Help so it can be dealt with accordingly. We are constantly investing in our campuses to improve study spaces and facilities our students have access to and we aim to improve all of the above by investing £220million in our campuses over the next 5 years. Coming to Sheffield Hallam university has been one of the best decisions. It’s a great city and a lot to do. There are loads of societies at Sheffield Hallam and there is definitely something for everyone to suit their type.

the teachers favourite certain pupils in the class and give them more attention than others

Careers not always too useful just got directed to a website. Actual campus facilities are good sorry from a lack of seating in the libraries during busy times

Facilities are mostly good but I've been here for about 6 months and haven't been able to connect to the wifi.

The university itself is fine, the issue is the teachers going on strike for over a month and then thinking its acceptable to hand out assignments and then also go on holiday. The fact we also get no reimbursement for the strikes is a joke too.

The university cannot prevent strikes by trade unions such as UCU and we try our best to mitagate these unfortunate circumstances for our students as your learning is our priority. We also try our best to reassure students that the Unviersity and all its services will remain open as usual with the majority of teaching taking place as planned. You can find more information about how we preventing impact of strike action on our students here. It is also worth noting that other Universities will be affected by strike action and this is not just an isolated incident at SHU, however we do aplogise for any inconvenience caused to our students. Not had much career service but it’s decent as a university

The Careers Connect can help you find year long or summer placments and internships to enhance your CV ahead of graduation as well as to search and apply to graduate jobs. I have no experience with clubs personally but know they hold good social events each week. I have also only been to our students union once and have nothing bad to say about it but I need more experience of it.
Hi, Thanks for leaving your review! If you haven't yet got involved in a club or society you can still join up by emailing the society directly. They often have give it a go sessions and even if you are unable to go to training sessions you can get involved in the great social events still to meet new people. There is lots more to take advantage of with at our Student's Union, including skills & training, volunteering, day trips and you can recieve free independent advice from the STudent Advice Centre.

Solid uni but could have better facilities

In the next 5 years we will be investing £220 milion in our campuses to improve our facilities for students on all courses, this includes new buildings for Sheffield Business School and the College of Social Sciences and Arts. The campus (Collegiate) has pretty much everything you could want, but the cafe could be considered overpriced. There are plenty of clubs and socs on offer. The union is nice and cheap, good location and has nice food. Can't comment on the careers service as I haven't visited. The internet isn't the best as when we need it in seminars, half of the group aren't able to connect.

My campus (city) is great! I love my building, Charles street! It’s modern and clean. The staff are great. There isn’t much choice for societies/clubs and there isn’t much to offer at the hubs(student union).

Good University with the two campuses spread over the city. Really good facilities for my nursing course and the lecturers are very knowledgeable at what they do.

The campus facilities are very good with plenty of space to study independently or in groups, book practical rooms if required and a help desk. There is a good selection in the cafe but it is of a fairly high price. i would 100% recommend joining a sport or society as there are a great stress relief and way to meet new people.

great uni, good facilities, but a lot of striking disruption.
Hello, Thank you for leaving your review. I'm sorry if you are a student that has been affected by the strikes that have occured this academic year. The university cannot prevent or forsee strikes by trade unions such as UCU and we try our best to mitagate these unfortunate circumstances for our students as your learning is our priority. We try our best to reassure students that the Unviersity and all its services will remain open as usual and to schedule alterantive staffing arrangements, with the majority of teaching taking place as planned. You can find more information about how we preventing impact of strike action on our students here. It is also worth noting that other Universities will be affected by strike action and this is not just an isolated incident at SHU, however we do aplogise for any inconvenience caused to our students. joining a club was the best idea as i’ve made loads of friends and allows me to use the gym whenever and keep fit

We also have over 35 social sport sessions a week in 18 different sports, we try to cater for all of our students and hope that you all get the most that you can out of joining and attending session, as you say its a great way of meeting new people. I enjoy going to this uni but I feel there could be more facilities and extra help for people with learning difficulties. When I first started it wasn’t clear what help I could get and where to get it. I also think food and drink could be a lot cheaper in the cafes etc as we are playing a lot of money towards education. But the classroom and lecture halls are all amazing aswell as the lecturers
