Rockingham House Biography
Rockingham House offers excellent student accommodation in a city centre location in Sheffield. The University of Sheffield is just a twelve-minute walk away and Sheffield Hallam University is a seventeen-minute walk. The accommodation is conveniently located close to supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and clubs.
There are great extra features that make student life that little bit easier including on-site laundry facilities, secure bike storage and a large communal study room. When you fancy some fresh air there is an outdoor courtyard where you can enjoy a BBQ with friends. Alternatively, you can relax in the communal lounge and watch TV. There’s also WiFi and all utility bills included in the rental price, as well as CCTV and secure fob entry to make you feel safe and comfortable.
Rockingham House offers great value for money ensuite rooms and there are 5 types to choose from. The rooms are all in cluster flats of 4 or 6 people, with a kitchen and living space shared between flatmates. So, you can cook up a storm together or just chill out after a long day at university. Each room is fully furnished and comes with a comfy bed, plenty of storage space and a study area with a desk and chair.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The accommodation is very good, the prices are very affordable, and the location is very good, whether it is close to the library or the supermarket. Activities are often held, the activity room is rich in content, and the front desk is very responsible and friendly.

Once a week cleaning in common areas is not happening. So cleaning regularly by staff in common area is a problem I think.

Nice staff, but overall management is poor,. Rubbish left in halls, spillages and smells in the elevator often. Elevator out of order for ages. Massive leak in one entrance never fixed properly. Only one social space that is often booked.

It's a great place to live, very affordable. I love the location, it is basically on campus of University of Sheffield and some of the buildings are less than 5 minutes walk from the accommodation. The team is very friendly and I've never had any problems living here.

This place is very nice. Reception can solve every problem for you fastly. The location is good next to UOS and have many shop and restaurant. Moreover, there are many activity with my flatmate to join in here.

It doesn't take long before you realise where the money is being saved in this accommodation block. Two months without a lift to my floor. Many months without any extractor fan in the bathrooms. Another two without a lock on our front door. These are just some of the problems that I faced over my year. They really need to sort out their maintenance because it is a joke. Then there is the cut corners. Two vacuum cleaners for the whole accommodation and three washing machines means that cleaning your flat is a pain. The printing costs a minimum of £1 per print job, so just go print at Uni. From the amount of Overall, the flats are perfectly ok, well located and reasonably priced. But, they would be much better off investing a bit more in the basics, rather than the constant "celebration days" like International Women's Day where they questionably gave out cosmetics. The staff are lovely and I don't want to knock them. There just needs to be more invested in the building.

Unfortunately, some repairs are out of our control and require external contractors, for example the repairs to the lift. As you may appreciate some parts have to be ordered externally meaning there is a delay whilst items are sourced. We hold ‘celebration days’ as a bit of fun for our residents and these are usually well received. We do appreciate any suggestions from the residents regarding these. I love this flat so much, it's in a very convenient location. It was also very close to COOP for my daily needs. The staff at the reception were very responsible and considerate and they often held events for us to participate in. I often meet up with my friends in the common room, which has plenty of space. It is a place that brings back good memories for me.

A very good property for a simple stay during your studies. A comfortable room and kitchen in addition to the common room which is modern and comfortable. Overall a very good accommodation with rigid help from the property team if anything is needed.

Takes a week to get a bulb fixed, lift broke and staff showed no sympathy and took over a week to fix, nightmare for 8th floor residents. Unmanageable.
We are sorry for this issues you have faced recently. We are in regular contact with the Lift Service company, but unfortunately there is very little else we can do about this as they are waiting on parts. If you would like to come to reception we can discuss this further and see if we can help, for example offer you a temporary room on a lower floor. We have recently recruited a new in house maintenance and smaller issues like changing lightbulbs should be back to normal and completed in a timely manner.

If one is looking for a good , affordable student accommodation which is close to all amenities, then look no further as Rockingham house has it all. It is very close to most of the university of Sheffield's buildings and the proximity to west street and city center is just the icing on the cake. Sam at Brett at the reception are very friendly and helpful. They also organize many fun social events at the common room, as well as give many free goodies ;) The stay here has been so good for me that I have already rebooked for the next year.

Perfect location that you could go to groceries/bars conveniently. Also you can barely hear the noise from the streets as it's sitting on a quite corner. WiFi works great after changed the service company to glide. Service staff are soo lovely. They remember residents' room number and listen to peoples' opinions. Weenie's always active like your sister and Sam's always mild like a mom:) The common room looks amazing now. You can use the big tables for a group meeting and the projector for a party. Too many complimentary lol. But everyone who got recommendations from me chose to stay here! (I've referred to at least 4 friends 😂)
The student accommodation is located at the city center which is convenient to get access to everywhere and the receptionist-Winnie is so sweet for giving support in many aspects. It is definitely a good choice to join the big family:)
It is really a good value of money, the location is very convenient and it doesn’t take much time to supermarkets and libraries and even parks. The internal layout is satisfying and has sufficient sunshine and a nice view of the streets.The inside of the room is not very noisy and furniture is well equipped. The most important is that there is a warm atmosphere in the reception and common areas, as they will prepare many interesting activities and snacks to our students . I feel so lucky to choose Rockingham.

The staff are really lovely. They are very initiative and always organise different events for everyone, which often include free food. We get many freebies. Overall, it’s not the cheapest, but you do get plenty for your money. The location is quite literally the best for students who don’t drive and pretty safe in my experience (no creeps creeping around in the early mornings and late nights). The only thing I wasn’t completely satisfied with was the cleanliness. It isn’t any different than other student housings I have been to so far, but nevertheless a shocking transition from the way we are used to living at home. Luckily, the staff are ready to address all complaints and they aim to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Lastly, everyone in the building has been really responsible regarding the ongoing pandemic and we managed to keep each other safe. Overall, I’ve had a positive experience and I would recommend the place to anyone looking for private accommodation.

I absolutely love living here. It’s my first year here but I’ve had a really great experience here. I love my room, the social spaces and I especially love the staff. They are so easy to talk to even if you don’t have anything official to say. I love how close it is to West Street so I don’t have to walk up to 5 mins to get what I need. Rockingham is absolutely great to live in. Oh and their free books you can borrow on the shelf and the occasional freebies like dig in bags and BoohooMAN hoodies!!

This is my first year living at Rockingham House, and have re-booked for next year. The staff are an absolute delight and are willing to help anyone who needs it. The location is perfect for any student in sheffield as the house is located just off West Street which is close to local amenities and is a short walk to the city. I highly recommend this accommodation to any student be they from the UK or international.

I have lived with RC for 2 years ( 3rd year soon), and I can say that it’s the best accommodation I have ever lived! It has everything you have with a very acceptable price! 1. It has a perfect location, it nears the Diamond, IC, most schools, Co-op, a Chinese store and Anytime fitness! 2. It’s a vary cosy place! The layout and equipment might not be fancy (because of its low price), but it gives you a sense of warm, with a little personal decoration , you can surely make it your home! 3. The staff are extremely friendly and are happy to help you always. I have so mush fun living here, and I can guarantee it values for money!

The accommodation looks like it does in the pictures which is always helpful. It is a nice, quiet place to live in a fantastic location. It's an easy 15 minute walk to Uni Of and just off of West Street for pubs and clubs. I had a small problem with the first flat I moved into as the communal kitchen was not being kept to an acceptable clean level but the Property Manager went above and beyond to move me into a more suitable one. All of the staff there are so lovely and always happy to help. I can't fault it one bit.

Rockingham House is almost the best price-performance ratio accommodation near the University of Sheffield. It's only a 5-min distance to the library and the high streets. Staffs here are kind and patient.
