Where is Sheffield Hallam University Located?
Sheffield Hallam University is in South Yorkshire which is right in the centre of the UK. Leeds and Manchester are its neighbouring cities with London only a two-hour train journey away.
City Campus is just a few minutes' walk from Sheffield train station, and is surrounded by shops, cafés and pubs. Just a 25-minute walk away is Collegiate Campus which mixes some of Sheffield's best bars, markets and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.
Graduate Outcomes
95% of students were in work or further study 15 months after graduating (2021/22 Graduate Outcomes Survey). The University Careers and Employability provides students and graduates with career advice and support including access to thousands of internship and job vacancies.
Facilities
Sheffield Hallam has invested hundreds of millions in facilities, so students can learn in the same environment as they will find in their future workplace. As well as 24-hour libraries and study areas, the University offers specialist course facilities including, a state-of-the-art simulated hospital ward for nursing and allied health profession students and flight simulators to inform aircraft design for engineering students.
What is Sheffield like?
Sheffield offers a friendly community in a big city environment. Students in Sheffield can enjoy a range of exciting music, art and film festivals, as well as stylish restaurants and cosy pubs. Hi, thank you for your question. If it's the Robotics Masters course that you're considering at Sheffield Hallam, you'll have the opportunity to benefit from the support of your supervisory team, consisting of a Director of Studies and a second supervisor who has specific interest in your chosen subject area. Also, in addition to carrying out your work independently, you'll recieve research training, Linux and ROS training and you can also opt to undertake training in Matlab, Open GL, InDesign, Illustration and After Effects. I love hallam - everywhere you go (physically or digitally) has such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I am part of multiple societies which provide many opportunities to grow as a person as well as meet others. The campuses are so different yet so nice, with beautiful, old architecture on collegiate campus and a more modern look at city campus - both feel safe and warm, and both have fully equipped gyms and sports facilities! The union holds many events and things to get involved in and you can tell it is run by students as everything is student-focused, relatable and genuinely helpful and enriching. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.
I study mostly in Charles street. Everything is very accessible and the social spaces are good and there is lots of them. The lecture halls around the university are comfortable and you can hear the lecturers clearly from the back. The rooms are also comfortable, and are big enough for large groups for seminars. The union runs different events, such as a guide dog event that is happening today, which engage students and introduce them to different opportunities.
Also get a careers newsletter and union emails, great facilities and amazing range of clubs to choose from.

It’s been a fantastic experience for me, I have access to everything and everywhere! The people are very welcoming, supportive and highly professional.
It's been a great experience so far.
Everything is really quite good, but of course every now and then there are some issues. But nothing has issues for too long and they're very good at improving things.
I love studying at hallam, colligate campus is near shops, a short distance from town and has lots of study areas and a great cafe. The lecturers are helpful and the student support / disabled student support is great. They are very accommodating to needs of students and the students union is great for help. The only downsides for me are that lecturers do seem to want to finish quickly and often skip over key points so i often have to take notes after the lecture or seminar instead of during. What i am most annoyed at is that hallam endorse my student accommodation (the pinnacles) and it has been an absolute nightmare with no heating in winter, sewage leaks, mould, damp, overflowing bin stores with not enough bins, vermin, silverfish and out of date electrical tests as well as electrical problems. Hallam endorsing an accommodation with all these issues and the lack of care from the manager shocks me, hallam really need to look into the student housing and take action.

Amazing university facilities on campus

Amazing accommodation! Reception are helpful and I will be deciding to stay for a second year

Lots of our students choose to stay in halls again, as long as there is room, which shows how good our accommodation options are. Good uni but student union isn’t good as nothing to do looks bad not good societies

In terms of our student union, I am sorry that you haven’t had the best experience with this. We have over 80 societies which caters to most of our student body, however if there are any others that you would like to be considered for the future, please fill in this form as our SU is always looking for feedback. Our SU has been putting on more events, with their ‘give it a go’ events becoming more popular with our students. Pretty good can sometimes be hard to book with employability advisors

Since becoming a student, I have noticed the overwhelming amount of support the university offers for all aspects of life, study, living, socialising etc. There is Always help available for whatever you need, to support student life when it gets difficult.

Living at my dream accommodation, University is literally 2 minutes away from my accommodation so I’m never late . The night life is amazing and cheap! Nothing I could ask for more!!!!

All our accommodations listed on our website are approved by us and we can manage them to ensure that students are happy living there! Most of them have security on site to ensure that all students feel safe and secure living at university as it is most people’s first time away from home too. Sheffield is generally quite a cheap city for students which is great for a night out or just living here in general. Sheffield Hallam University is an excellent University with a range of facilities like the library and other opotunities like clubs and societies. Societies vary from sports to academics and are available to all students. There is a limited student union however there are an abundance of pubs and bars students use to socialise with others.

Lecturers were extremely friendly, helpful and open to questions and critical comments. The transparency about assessements and the amount of effort put into providing additional learning material was greatly appreciated.

We have three different support teams for students to access – an employability team, a student support team and an academic advisory team which are available for all students to talk to. All of our staff are helpful and want to help their students so make sure you reach out to them with any questions you have as they will be happy to help. My experience has been okay. I've not had much chance to make friends on my course as people didn't often turn up to lectures or seminars, my teach was great when it was in, however, there were many weeks of strikes which made the assessments unnecessarily stressful

Our tutors always try their best to ensure every student is happy and confident in their work. I am sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with the strikes – we understand that this is disruptive to your studies, but we have been trying to sort this out as best we can, however not all of it is in our control. Your tutors will be happy to answer any questions that you have if you need any help. With making friends, have you looked at our societies? We have over 80 different ones so you may find one that you like the sound of, and they are great for making friends as so many different people attend them! Our student union also puts on ‘give it a go’ events where you can meet lots of people and do something fun – they have been to ice hockey matches, for coffees and to other cities so it’s worth looking at! We also love both of our campuses and the facilities that we can provide. Our libraries are great as they are open 24 hours, and we have lots of great other facilities across our campuses too. I’m a third year student and my time at Sheffield Hallam is shortly coming to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, the facilities available like the library has been an incredible lifesaver, being a place of relaxation and an incredible source for work, providing everything you could want to find. As a Graphic Design Student having these inspiration sources is vital for my work and I found the library to really aid with that. In addition the studying spots dotted around campus really are perfect if you need a place outside your house/accommodation they’ve always helped me feel comfortable and relaxed. Whilst the clubs and societies never interested me I know a lot of my friends who have found communities where they really feel apart of and have given them importance and meaning to the university experience, which is really lovely to see, such a tight-fit community. m

We have two libraries which are both open 24 hours which is really good as it means you can come whenever you need to study! They are good as they have quiet and silent rooms, as well as collaborative areas so there will be a place you can go – whether you prefer silence to work or if you need to work together on a group project! We also have lots of other study areas across both of our campuses which means that students can study wherever if they don’t want to go to the library. We have our new buildings opening soon which will have lots more new facilities and study spaces too which is very exciting! i’m yet to use the student union or careers service so was unable to give a fair voting on them however i have heard amazing things about them, hallam offer possibly the best socials and there’s a choice for everyone.
Campus was a little dated with minimal food spots. The opening of the new buildings will help with this

Coming to the end of my three year degree, thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The careers and hallam help services are amazing, they try their hardest to help in any way they can.

Our city campus is right next to the train station and bus station, as well as lots of cafes and restaurants in town. Our Collegiate campus is located just off Ecclesall Road which is a great student area with loads to do! This is great for our students and lots of our students also choose to live around Ecclesall Road in their second or third years which is nice too! The courses are well-structured, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications, preparing me for challenges beyond academics. Student life includes a diverse range of societies and clubs catering to different interests. Highly recommend the university to anyone seeking a well-rounded education.

The university itself is great and the facilities they provide are too. The societies however are lackluster and there’s not a diverse range of societies

SHU is a modern and nice looking university, it has many events and opportunities often happening that entertain students, my favourite is the plant sale that happens outside of Owen building.

My experience at Trigon has been amazing, the staffs have been so helpful and easing into this lifestyle has been fun as an international student.

I have been here for a while and it has the basics of everything. I help to run a society and I wish I had a bit more support on how I run everything.
