Where is Sheffield Hallam University Located?
Sheffield Hallam University is in South Yorkshire which is right in the centre of the UK. Leeds and Manchester are its neighbouring cities with London only a two-hour train journey away.
City Campus is just a few minutes' walk from Sheffield train station, and is surrounded by shops, cafés and pubs. Just a 25-minute walk away is Collegiate Campus which mixes some of Sheffield's best bars, markets and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.

Facilities
Sheffield Hallam has invested hundreds of millions in facilities, so students can learn in the same environment as they will find in their future workplace. As well as 24-hour libraries and study areas, the University offers specialist course facilities including, a state-of-the-art simulated hospital ward for nursing and allied health profession students and flight simulators to inform aircraft design for engineering students.

Hi, thank you for your question. If it's the Robotics Masters course that you're considering at Sheffield Hallam, you'll have the opportunity to benefit from the support of your supervisory team, consisting of a Director of Studies and a second supervisor who has specific interest in your chosen subject area. Also, in addition to carrying out your work independently, you'll recieve research training, Linux and ROS training and you can also opt to undertake training in Matlab, Open GL, InDesign, Illustration and After Effects. Really good accom, great amenities and kind staff!
Sheffield hallam is a great university for social experiences and sense of community, Wi-Fi could be better for seminars, lectures and studying.

We have created a lovely community here of both staff and students and everyone is friendly and welcoming which is always nice for our new students. Any student or staff member is always happy to help out with any questions or just general help so make sure you always ask if you need anything. We have a great range of societies here too which our students love. There is something for everyone and the socials are great! We also have varsity coming up which is a great event, and this is always so fun! This is a great chance to see just how much Hallam supports each other and the final ice hockey match is always great fun. Our SU always puts on a great range of events too such as London trips, theme park trips and ice hockey matches! I am sorry that you have experienced some issues with your WIFI connection here. We have a student and a guest WIFI which should work well so it might be worth talking to Hallam help and seeing if they can sort this out for you. Placement is really tough part of the Course. There should be more transparency about Placement process (like data showing students got placement and who didn't).

Finding a placement can be hard and if seeing data from previous years is something that you would find useful, it might be a good idea to talk to your course tutors about this as they may be able to help with this. I’ve really enjoyed my first year at Sheffield Hallam University. The campus is welcoming, and the staff are supportive and passionate about teaching. The facilities are excellent, with plenty of study spaces and resources to help with my learning. The university’s location in Sheffield is perfect, with lots to do around the city. The student union has plenty of activities, making it easy to meet new people and get involved. Overall, it’s been a great experience, and I’m excited for my next year

A Home Away from Home Moving to a new country as an international student is exciting but also terrifying. You leave behind family, familiarity, and a sense of home. That’s why finding LIV Student Sheffield has meant so much to me. From the moment I arrived, I felt safe. The staff here don’t just do their jobs—they genuinely care. Whether it’s a friendly smile, help with a problem, or just someone to chat with, their kindness makes all the difference. Knowing I have approachable, supportive people around me has made adjusting so much easier. The accommodation is more than just a place to sleep. It’s where I can unwind, focus on studies, and feel at home. University is stressful, and being far from family makes it harder—but having a comfortable, welcoming space has helped more than I can say. When I moved in September i've been impressed everyday by how beautiful everything looks, as well as how close it is to the university. The price is a complete steal for how big the room is. Almost every week theres a different event happening in the looby

Coming to Sheffield Hallam University felt like a brand new start for me. I really came in to myself and couldn't imagine going to a better uni.

The university offers lots of opportunities and advice of needed and the buildings and rooms are easy to locate.

We pride ourselves on the amount of support that we are able to offer our students. Ever student has access to a student support team, an employability team and an academic advisory team which our students always find really helpful. All of our staff are always here to help and want to support students and make their journey here as smooth as possible. We have a lot of buildings, but they are signposted well and it’s pretty easy to find your way around! Both our city and collegiate campus are fairly straightforward, but we always have staff around if anyone is stuck, or our students are always happy to help others! Good uni with amazing socials and clubs

Very helpful staff great place to live internet is better than shown good distance to the shops, gym, and the campus
Good, still module wise improvement is required and international should.be reduced, looks double the local student fees. If.that amount is there with student. They could have focus on studies instead of focusing different kind of part time jobs.module related books are not available in library.

Collegiate campus is unbelievable

We try and make every student’s experience as great as possible, so I am glad this has been the case for you. We love that both of our campuses are in such great locations – our city campus is right next to the train and bus stations in town and our Collegiate campus is just off Ecclesall Road which is a lively student area with lots to do. Have you tried some of the cafes and restaurants around Collegiate campus? We have lots of university cafes but there are also lots of lovely independent cafes and places to eat and drink around the Uni too which our students love! Our Collegiate campus is also home to most of our sports societies so if you haven’t already, I would really recommend checking these out! I have had so much help from both the university and the people that attend. I especially have had a lot of help from the Careers team with my next steps and deciding what I want to do and where I want to go for my placement year.

Clubs are a great way to make friends by forcing you to interact with people u don’t know. Everyone is do friendly and welcoming including second years and third years

The experiences and environment provided by SHU are amazing, and I love the way I have been made to feel at home and included. There are also great facilities provided for my course, and many online platforms free to use.

Been here almost 2 semesters and haven’t seen or heard from any career advisor or academic advisor. Most of the WiFi connections don’t work so I have to hotspot from my phone. If you don’t do a main stream sport there’s no societies for you
Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am sorry that some of your experience here has not been what you (or we) would have hoped for. Firstly, you should have been assigned an academic advisor and they do usually get in contact with you about making an appointment. However, this is sometimes up to the student to make an appointment if they have any concerns or questions that need answering. This page should have some more information about making an appointment. You should also have a careers advisor who will be happy to chat to you too if you make an appointment with them! The WIFI should work around campus, and we have one for students and one for guests. However, if this has not been working for you it may be worth talking to Hallam Help about this as there may be a specific problem they can fix for you. In terms of societies, our SU tries to ensure there are a variety of societies for all students. Our staff have created a lovely environment where they are always happy to help anybody that needs it, so I am glad this has been reflected in your experience. We try and make sure that every student has all of the support they may need and any tutors are aways happy to answer any questions and help out. All students also have access to three teams of support – an employability team, a student support team and an academic advisory team and students are encouraged to make appointments with these at any times if they feel they need any help at all. We also try and provide as many helpful resources as we can. We have lots of great resources available in our libraries which are always there for students to look at and use, and we have lots of great facilities for students too. Sheffield Hallam is a great university it has a lot of social societies and the facilities are great

Sheffield Hallam is a fantastic place to study if you’re looking for a university that balances academic learning with real-world experience. One of the best things about Hallam is its focus on employability—most courses include placements, guest lectures from industry professionals, and opportunities to work on real projects. It definitely makes you feel like you're preparing for life after uni, not just studying for the sake of it.

As an international student, Sheffield Hallam University has been an amazing place to learn. The campus is state-of-the-art, fully furnished, and offers first-rate resources for education and recreation. There are numerous opportunities to meet new people and pursue a variety of interests thanks to the abundance of organizations and associations. A lively student community is fostered by the Students' Union, which is very involved and helpful. The careers office is outstanding and provides helpful advice for internships, placements, and potential employment opportunities. Furthermore, the WiFi is dependable and quick, which makes studying and online activities easy. All things considered, Sheffield Hallam offers an amazing educational experience, and I heartily endorse it to anyone thinking about pursuing higher education here
The university is a nice place to go. I've made a lot of friends here that I know are going to be life friends. the materials that I study are good. I feel like they could be better in terms of being supported by staff and by making sure that they communicate changes without being sprung on us. I did not like that they changed the course and modules at the end of my 2nd year, meaning that everything was new for my last year. They did not even know what they would teach us and did not communicate with us what the changes were which made me super anxious and nervous. Apart from that. everything is perfect. Thank you

Great campus good weather everything perfect
As an international student, my experience at this university has been amazing. The professors are knowledgeable and supportive, and the campus is diverse and welcoming. The facilities are excellent, and there are plenty of opportunities for academic and personal growth. I truly feel valued and supported in my studies here.

Overall, SHU is a good university.
So glad I picked SHU the course is honestly one of the best in the country got me straight into a massive million pound company in the head office working in finance. Also Sheffield is ridiculously cheap compared to other cities so can have great accommodation, eat out every week and travel still while saving.

Living at Cosmos Student Accommodation has been an amazing experience! The rooms are modern, spacious, and well-equipped with everything a student needs. The communal areas, including the study spaces and gym, create a great balance between work and relaxation. The staff are incredibly friendly and always ready to help with any concerns. The location is perfect, with easy access to universities, shops, and public transport. I highly recommend Cosmos to any student looking for a comfortable and supportive place to live!

Great university outstanding tutors. I feel it’s hard to find support on getting part time job or internships but maybe that’s because I am first year.

It’s a lovely campus with a lot of space to study

Our city campus is right in the heart of the city and is right next to the train and bus station which is great for our students and especially our students who commute! Rockingham House is situated at the heart of city centre, making it an extra value for money. The staff are professional and are always ready to assist anytime. There is weekly social activities that assist students from varying cultural background to bond. Great experience so far!

The University of Sheffield has been a great fit for me. The campus is beautiful, with a mix of modern buildings and green spaces, making it a really pleasant place to study and relax. I’ve found the academic programs to be strong and the professors are passionate about what they do. The city of Sheffield is friendly, affordable, and has plenty to offer in terms of culture and outdoor activities.
Had a good experience with hallap help .. understandable lecturers
I love hallam - everywhere you go (physically or digitally) has such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I am part of multiple societies which provide many opportunities to grow as a person as well as meet others. The campuses are so different yet so nice, with beautiful, old architecture on collegiate campus and a more modern look at city campus - both feel safe and warm, and both have fully equipped gyms and sports facilities! The union holds many events and things to get involved in and you can tell it is run by students as everything is student-focused, relatable and genuinely helpful and enriching. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.
I study mostly in Charles street. Everything is very accessible and the social spaces are good and there is lots of them. The lecture halls around the university are comfortable and you can hear the lecturers clearly from the back. The rooms are also comfortable, and are big enough for large groups for seminars. The union runs different events, such as a guide dog event that is happening today, which engage students and introduce them to different opportunities.
Also get a careers newsletter and union emails, great facilities and amazing range of clubs to choose from.

Everything is really quite good, but of course every now and then there are some issues. But nothing has issues for too long and they're very good at improving things.

I love studying at hallam, colligate campus is near shops, a short distance from town and has lots of study areas and a great cafe. The lecturers are helpful and the student support / disabled student support is great. They are very accommodating to needs of students and the students union is great for help. The only downsides for me are that lecturers do seem to want to finish quickly and often skip over key points so i often have to take notes after the lecture or seminar instead of during. What i am most annoyed at is that hallam endorse my student accommodation (the pinnacles) and it has been an absolute nightmare with no heating in winter, sewage leaks, mould, damp, overflowing bin stores with not enough bins, vermin, silverfish and out of date electrical tests as well as electrical problems. Hallam endorsing an accommodation with all these issues and the lack of care from the manager shocks me, hallam really need to look into the student housing and take action.

Good campus and scenery is nice

We love hearing about how our students are enjoying their university journey with us and what their favourite parts are! We are so proud of both of our campuses, and we love that they are both so close to the city centre. Our city campus is right next to the train and bus stations and our collegiate campus is just off Ecclesall Road which is a lovely student area with lots of great things to do. Sheffield itself is also a lovely city and there are lots of green spaces around which make it a lovely place to be. There is the botanical gardens next to Collegiate, as well as End Cliffe Park and even in the city centre we have the peace gardens which is a lovely green area to relax! Amazing university facilities on campus

The campuses are very good and diverse.

Amazing accommodation! Reception are helpful and I will be deciding to stay for a second year

We have lots of great accommodation options for all of our students so there are lots for our new students to choose from! Lots of our students choose to stay in halls again, as long as there is room, which shows how good our accommodation options are. All of our tutors and staff pride themselves on making sure that all students have the best experience and get the most out of their time with us. All of our tutors are always happy to help so if you ever have any questions make sure you ask as they will be more than happy to answer them for you! We also have a great support system in place here for our students. All students have access to three different teams of support – an academic advisor, an employability advisor and a student support advisor which our students have found really helpful. We have created a really great community here, full of welcoming and friendly staff and students who will always help any students who need it. We also offer lots of support to our students and every student has access to three teams of support with us – an academic advisor, an employability advisor and a student support advisor which is great for our students. We also make sure we have lots of events on and over 80 societies for our students to join. Our Student Union also often outs on ‘give it a go’ events where students can try something fun that they haven’t done before – we have been to Alton Towers, Ice hockey matches and trips to London!
