High cost performance environment, considerate staff, patient service, worthy of recommendation!
The uni has such good facilities it's crayzayy.
While COVID and many other issues have not been dealt with well, the campus is beautiful and there are some truly great members if staff
Terrible university experience. Vice chancellor and central management have no respect or concern for students or their mental health and well-being. They only seem to care about the status of the uni and attracting prospective students - this review should put you off.
Very awesome experience so far. The teaching staff are quite friendly and usually helpful.
toybox in birmingham is amazing with excellent working stuff who are so nice and kind
I studied at this university for 5 years. I have achieved a first in my undergraduate and a pass in my postgraduate (social work) course. The social work in particular was a joke agreed by all my fellow students. Everything from admin to teachers are highly disorganised and lack motivation. You can't find someone to help you so if you join this course you're on your own. We hardly had any teaching as most of this was self directed learning. this is when basically you read staff yourself cause they haven't got any teachers. The finance office is the worst, thy kept chasing me with invoices instead of invoicing the Social work bursary, there is no communication between departments and if you overplayed your tuition fees GOOD LUCK with that... please make sure that you keep receipts because you'll need them when you take them to court for a refund. I regret choosing this appalling university for my postgraduate course. I hope you have a better experience
Nice campus, very big, the buildings are beautiful, WiFi is good!
the uni is very beautiful and the professors here are always kind to teach you and answer you any questions. that is very nice to study here.
My university is beautiful and the teachers are openminded, they can teach you in different ways to let u know more about what they taught u.
I am a current undergraduate at the university and I have to say I wish there was a rating for social support . Absolutely horrendous that there is no social support if you're struggling mentally. You get sign posted to talk to a wellbeing officer at the school your subject is a part of . To get to this you have to navigate through the labyrinth of online pages to even locate this option. University of cambridge, in comparison, offers you a whole professional team that consist of CBT specialists, not just "wellbeing officers" who, at best, are able to give you "extensions" on your deadlines - wtf am I supposed to do with an extension when I don't have the motivation to get out of bed. Honestly, barring the years during which the pandemic is rife the university is probably a fine institution to study at. If you know you are somebody who needs support the facade of "wellbeing officers" and lack of clarity of what help is available should deter you from applying here.
response to coronavirus has been terrible. I was given no work from March until the start of the next academic year except for one piece of bridging coursework which wasn't graded and quite frankly a waste of half an hour. my course is great but I wish the uni would pay the VC less and invest more in the wellbeing of the students.
Fantastic place to study. Clubs and societies are very active. There are many free events and opportunities to bond with people from your course as well as from other courses. Career services are very competent, and helpful. The school has a good connection with employers and hold many great events to enhance employability skills.
Uob is a good uni obviously however the history department has a lot to be desired.
If you want to complete the MSc Psychology program here ... BEWARE. After an 8-month dispute with my School, I received 40% of my tuition funds back, a recommendation was made to the School of Psychology, and an apology was given. This occurred because the expected level of practical research experience and support needed for me to flourish both within and beyond this institution unjustifiably lacked and in turn made Ph.D. placements and securing a job in my field futile. Throughout my time there I received a complete lack of support from my supervisor that aided in the overall lack of research experience I was able to receive. Despite the multiple attempts I made to allow staff to determine alternative solutions, their dismissals on all fronts and its resulting repercussions were enough to warrant a complaint. I would NOT recommend.
Libraries are overcrowded but you can find some place to study. Sometimes there's a problem with WiFi. There's not enough staff who can help you and you need to wait in a queue or for a response via email. Worklink is a joke that can't pay an accurate amount of money and it's hard to be hired because many students look for a job. Guild it's helpful at all.
The disinfection method is very perfect, the service at the front desk is very warm-hearted
University of Birmingham was a good place to be generally
Great University - campus life is the best!!!
So beautiful campus with nice tutors and students. The greatest equipments services. I enjoyed my time
Uob, best university ever. Recommend visiting the new green heart
Close to city center. Friendly staff
one of the amazing universities in the world with the best student support
Few complaints except that constant striking meant I missed most of my second term and the WiFi occasionally goes down. Aside from that it is a great campus with loads of societies and events (e.g. vintage sales)
very good experience, enjoy my one year post graduate life here
The school environment is very good, everybody to learn enthusiasm is very high, learning environment is good
Beautiful university. Great classes.
I enjoy my university life at University of Birmingham, learned a lot of new things and also made friends with people from other countries.
Very good university for international students
我们在这里过得很愉快。该地区非常好,所有人看起来都很好。桑迪和萨尔曼真的很好。
Overall very good university. Better than oxford and harward
All the university cares about is taking money from you and not providing you with what you need to be an academic. They pester you to pay fees, yet when you want some compensation for missed lectures due to strikes and corona virus they refer you to a useless website with links which send you round to the same page you began with. When you take matters into your own hands and email there will be no helpful response. Staff are unhelpful and don’t intend on assisting with growth. You can’t even get a decent WiFi connection at the university.
the campus at the uni is the nicest campus of any uni i have visited and the new facilities are great
A great uni experience apart from the wifi being inconsistent at points and inevitable inconsistencies within departments
Great campus and facilities, active student union and plethora of societies.
UoB is a great university. They worked closely with students trying to get money back from partner accommodation during the corona virus lockdown and have been a big help.
Very good university, I can gain access to help and support for my studies from teachers and professors. I am happy to study here.
Campus is really nice and there’s plenty ways of getting support
The university is good and has excellent facilities. I love Old Joe and being part of the community. The strikes are a shame because the university should listen to its staff.
University of Birmingham is a very good school.
Very well balanced as a university overall. Campus and facilities are great, lots to do socially. Wifi can be temperamental in study areas and lecture halls, however.
Great campus, lively social life
it's great. I am disabled and they've been really helpful. campus is beautiful and also very accessible. my lecturers are so lovely and the people are great.
not been there myself but im sure its lovely
Only in my first year and loving it so far
Nice campus with good facilities
The sports clubs and facilities are outstanding.
Great university to be at, with a really good vibe
Everything to a high standard as expected from a red brick uk university
good place to study and stay, nice facilities and staffs, which lovely to help if has any questions
The campus could benefit from a better selection of cafe options. Most cafe's on campus have identical menus, but overall I can't much complain. As a commuter student, it would be nice if there were more microwaves available as well.
Very good facilities. Very nice people.
Coming to UoB was the best decision of my life; absolutely adore everything about the University from my course to the beloved Fab n Fresh on Saturday nights.
Stunning campus, amazing community, love it.
Very happy with the university and the clubs and societies
Amazing love it wouldn't change it for the world
A large support network for students is available and help for anyone that needs it. 100's of societies to chose from but some are not accessible with ludicrous fees.
The best three years of my life spent at the University of Birmingham. I moved to Brum in 2015 from Greater Manchester (Bury). The campus is incredible and very safe - the red brick buildings are beautiful and Old Joe clock tower is an icon in Birmingham. The library is open 24 hours, and the gym and Olympic sized swimming pool facilities are incredible. My first year halls were great (I was in The Vale) and I met my best mates here. The transport connections to halls and campus are good, and the University has its own train station, about a five minute journey to Brum city centre. The Uni has been great at helping with the transition from studying to working and there is a great careers department. I've been offered a job working in Birmingham so I'm set to stay in the city and explore Birmingham some more!
Stunning campus, great facilities, insane sports centre and pitches, sick SU (Fab is lit), loads of societies and sports, amazing accommodation set in beautiful parkland, tutors and lecturers are brilliant - wouldn't want to be anywhere else
Having the best time of my life here! I love Birmingham as a city, our campus is beautiful, loving my accommodation and flat mates and the course is extremely interesting as well!!
Since i live in liberty court I haven't experienced the SU so can't really say much about it
Highly reccomend UoB. The campus is insane and clubs/societies are so good.
uni is beautiful but birmingham itself i didn't like
Luv uni life made lots of new friends found a manager who is unpleasant with no respect for staff at go mex will not be using that place and looks like a cleaner not a manager
Love uni and all the facilities and opportunities. Have made lots of good friends and couldn’t be happier with my course. Love it
Loads of developments going on for the campus. We have the best facilities and accommodation, just the sheer number of students can cause some overcrowding in areas like the library.
This uni Is a right f****** laugh
Such a dissapointing let down of a first year! I studied drama and the league tables all said it was the best course in the UK for drama, but the course was so boring, bland and just generally really terrible. 4 of my best friends dropped out of the course within the first year, and that was just my best friends, about 13 people i was friendly with dropped out of the course. I didnt relate to anyone else everyones a bit immature and weird. The night life is absolute s*** aswell. Steer clear birmingham aint a good time. You're much better off going to bristol/manchester/leeds. Thank f*** I've finally got together the courage to drop out
Wi-Fi poor in library aha, or walking building to building. Closing all these buildings down and destroying them, building up all these new buildings that are taking much longer than promised - but not telling us where our money is going, that they don't have money to pay for printing our dissertations and binding them, but do habe money for building all these things???? Makes us angry and annoyed. We want to see fill detailed costings: how many lecturers are there, what are they paid? Outside workers, supporting staff? Then courses alliances? Running costs of all the brings and maintenance? Then all the other costs? Just have it all out so that we can see it?
UoB has an incredible campus and SU in particular, including a very strong medsoc for students in the healthcare profession. There is wifi available throughout campus just requiring your uni log in. The “green heart” is being built which will make campus even more beautiful. However, this means main library is incredibly crowded particularly around revision season, so its good to make use of the study spaces tracker showing which buildings have space to revise.
Fantastic first year experience
Incredible, best uni in the UK hands down. Best graduate prospects, best nightlife, best people. Constantly growing to become even better. Amazing.
The campus is nice but they are wasting huge amounts of student money and instead of investing it back into the support such as mental health support they knocked down the old library and are making a lot of noise to create a 'green space' and instead created a new library with nowhere near enough study space, furthermore, the library is always too hot and stuffy, it is relatively loud in there and the floors shake as people walk across them. Most places you might want to eat on campus are full and overpriced. A lot of lectures and seminars, instead of being taught in the main building for the subject, in my case arts, are instead held in random rooms in random buildings across campus.
Phenomenal, the best place to go to university
Gym and facilities in general WAY too expensive. Meal plan is an absolute scam, waste of every single penny
Beautiful campus, the university has everything you need to help you through your degree. The sport science department are amazing, interesting lectures which are engaging and the staff are brilliant!
Excellent uni with a brilliant famous
Had a great first year, the students union is out of this world. Campus facilities are great including the campus train station that takes you straight into the city center. The campus restaurants and cafe's are really good quality including a noodle bar and a burrito stand.
It has a beautiful campus and so far I loved my course. The lecturer and career networks are really supportive. Had a fantastic experience so far!
Great work feedback, physics labs are good with great instructors
Fantastic university both academically and in terms of social life.
Liked the university, very welcoming and friendly. Lots to do most of the time.
internet is good mostly but then randomly doesn't work for a whole day/doesn't let you connect. annoying.
Absolutely appalling. I've never been so disappointed in my entire life. I chose to take a course in Accounting and Finance and, to my disbelief, I realised what a favela the University actually was. The worst part of the University would be the fact that I need to be on-guard at all time, as one of my mates had his dormitory robbed of all his belongings and they even recorded it and slapped Vaseline on his head. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU ARE IN A GANG, IT IS LITERALLY A YOUTH CLUB.
Love the university! Some of the wifi drops in and out but the facilities and opportunities available to students is incomparable!
Worst experience ever. Horrible course structure with unrealistic workload expectations. Facilities are overcrowded. Social aspect isn’t great. Not particularly welcoming either.
Student union bit of a joke. Far more expensive than all other Birmingham student nights. Seems more of a profit earning venture than a student union. As a second year economics student I wouldn't expect to have lectures finishing at 1900- given that the working day finishes at 1800- yet I find myself finishing lectures at 1900 on not one but two nights. Clearly the university is operating over its capacity to fund stupid ventures such as a poorly designed sports centre- which again does not have capacity for all student to become members- and a nice new garden in the middle of uni. Yet there is a distinct lack of study spaces with room for approximately 2% of student population in the library. 493k a year chancellor needs to sort himself out and start focusing on student needs.
Had the best time at Birmingham. Anything you’re interested in, there’s a society for it.
The business school is highly disorganised! They are always lost and have no idea that students find it extremely difficult to contact them in case of an urgent need
The campus is a bit confusing but there are all the facilities and societies one might need. The student union is really helpful. The careers service is accessible. the wifi is not too reliable.
The campus is like its own little city! It's got everything you need
Excellent WiFi, easy to connect to in every bit of the campus. The guild is huge and very useful, friendly and welcoming. They can sort close to any issue you have. The range of shops on campus is fantastic with even an beauty salon, which is fairly reasonable. So many societies and sports - there is definitely something for everyone. Sports are fairly expensive, but actually quite good value for money once you break it down for the number of hours you do. Societies are very cheap- most only £5-10 for the year.
great place, something for everyone, looks pretty
Good modern uni but have a terrible attitude to security. Hold on to your belongings at ALL times EVERYWHERE. Buildings, lecture rooms etc wide open to the public and CCTV useless.
Don't go here. Absolute snobby s******. All my confidence has been knocked, I hate my course and I've made no friends.
Fab is a bit pricy but I love uob
360 UOB sports centre staff are very rude & not helpful at all. The first week of opening I was unsure about the equipment & they were very disrespectful about showing me how to operate the machines & also I've emailed them, gone to the front desk, phoned up for a login number they just are simply too slow on customer service. Personally I have had a very upsetting experience at this new gym
UoB is a brilliant uni, no doubt about it.
Could provide even more variety of societies
First year student, I absolutely hate it here. I haven't felt welcomed or that I fit in here whatsoever. Workload is disgusting and flatmates are disrespectful. 25 minute walk to campus in the rain is intolerable
