When choosing to stay at Onyx, residents are spoilt for choice as the property is only a few minutes walk or cycle from numerous local universities such as Aston University, Birmingham City University, the University College Birmingham, the University of Birmingham and Birmingham Newman University. The accommodation is on the cusp of the city centre and is surrounded by plenty of exciting shops, bars and restaurants.
Onyx boasts a range of modern facilities and amenities including a private dining room, a gym, handy study rooms, a games room, a cinema room, a sky lounge, a courtyard and an open roof garden that has panoramic views. There is also bike storage, a laundry room, WiFi, all-inclusive bills and CCTV to make your stay as stress-free as possible.
If you are looking to move in with friends, you can opt to stay in an ensuite room where you benefit from having your bathroom and bedroom to yourself, whilst still enjoying a shared communal kitchen and living area. The manager is very nice and d welcoming, the rest of the staff are really friendly, making it very enjoyable living here. The security guards Chris and sayed treat everyone in such a respectable manner. The building is very nice and modern.

Onyx is the best accommodation for living. Everything is so amazing . Rooms are comfortable and relax. I’ve had a fantastic experience staying at Onyx! The facilities are modern and well-maintained and the rooms are spacious and comfortable making it feel like a home away from home. One of the best parts about staying here has been the amazing staff who go above and beyond to make sure every resident is well taken care of. Sayed and Nav from the Security Department deserve a special mention—they’re always friendly, attentive, and ready to help with any concerns, making the place feel safe and welcoming. Justin is also incredibly helpful and approachable, ensuring everything runs smoothly and creating a supportive environment. With such a great team and comfortable living spaces, I’m already rebooked it for next year! Highly recommend Onyx to anyone looking for a top-notch student accommodation experience.

Honestly, living here at Onyx has been a fantastic experience. From management to security, from safety to cleanliness, and from facilities to the overall environment—everything is exceptional, comfortable and well-maintained. My favorite part is the sky lounge on the top floor; the view from there is absolutely breathtaking! Everyone here is kind, professional, friendly and always willing to help. I have been in other places too but honestly this place is different than others. A lot of facilities is here , good security and helpful staff. Everything so fine , especially Sayed is wonderful.

This place is very comfortable to live in, just like your own home. It's good to live in this place, it's very safe, and the neighbours are also very good. The whole front desk are so helpful, with a range of service and a humane flavour. Sayed is very enthusiastic about me and my friends.

I like it here, there are good social spaces and it’s close to the university plus the rooms are spacious enough and of good quality, the kitchen in good shape,spacious and fabulous.

Hey guys, i am international student stay in this property. management is really s***, as i have agreement and all the proof that i pay deposit and rent to them but still they are not refund me they don't give answer to the question. Management is really bad. They don't give money back to me i have to suffer a lot due there poor management along with my study. This is my really bad experience in uk, Still its 11 months i didn't get deposit and rent back. Be aware of these money grabber property who grab the international students money and don't give back.

Honestly would recommend staying in onyx its location is perfect close to all campuses and the city centre. The amenities are quite modern and there are cleaners that clean everyday maintaining its surroundings. Staff are amazing they help with requirements. For first year I’m glad I stayed here

The location is close to the city centre and Aldi is only 2 stop far. I really love it’s social spaces and events which shows they care about us. The living space is equipped with modern amenities which values the money compared to other accommodations I've seen. However, the management can take more initiative about cleanliness inside the flats.

Onyx is good because it is close by to the universities & that’s about it. Reception are nice aswell and can help from time to time (wish they were available all the time though) but the pricing is quite a lot to ask from university students if i’m being honest

I have stayed at Onyx in my 2nd year and currently staying for my 3rd year on placement and they have been very helpful and understanding of any issue we may have and have helped me resolve them very quickly especially in regards to rebooking a room for next year. Amie especially was very helpful in helping me rebook my room next year with friends and made the process so much easier whilst Melanie also was really big help with any issues that arose this year. All the other staff are also always very friendly and willing to help as much as they can, great customer service! The building is always kept as clean as possible which is impressive given how many rooms, blocks there are to clean and they hold events here and there for the residents promoting diversity and inclusion. Overall a very good place to stay throughout your university years! The security staff are also so helpful and friendly to talk to as well.

The location is best and staff is too good. 24 hours security is available. The Common rooms, cinema room, gym all things are there inside the accommodation which is good for a student to come to onyx.

I enjoy living at onyx! It’s a good place to stay especially for first year students who are looking to meet new people. The accommodation holds events for students to meet each other as well the best communal areas where you’re able to chill and have fun indoors. You get so much for the price you’re paying. The staff is so kind and helpful, and the security is great. Highly recommended.

It’s a really good place to live, the social spaces are exceptionally well maintained and cleaned, the staff is AMAZING (especially Elena, she goes above and beyond to take care of residents). I’ve had a few issues related to other residents and my issues were taken care of in timely manners and with great care.

A safe environment with good amenities, the attitude of the staff, especially Elena, is very friendly and she tries her best to guide the students in the best way. The good feeling she gives me in every meeting is what encourages me.
Very convenient and accessible areas such as the gym and the social spaces, Customer service has been really helpful and in particular Elena has helped me with a multitude of issues I had especially in the kitchen of my block when some of the appliances weren't working.
I’ve lived in many accommodation for the past 3 years but none have been as good as onyx. It makes you feel like you’re home. I would specially like to mention Elena and her happy go lucky attitude at work. It is lovely to have someone so nice especially when you’re far away from home. The amenities are outstanding , the staff is excellent. You cannot go wrong when you book onyx.

I moved to Onyx in October and my expectations were low before arriving. I thought that because I had my accommodation sorted out later than other students, I would end up in the worst places. I also thought that moving late would cause me to miss the first weeks of adaptation when everyone makes friends. However, I got positively surprised. As soon as I got in the lobby, I could tell that I would have a good social experience, everyone was smiling and the environment was overall uplifting on my first day. I instantly took a tour throughout the whole accommodation after getting my keys, the amenities are as entertaining as they look on their website. I had absolutely no problem making new friends and the staff members are friendly. I especially appreciate Elena from the front desk, I greet her every morning, she is always smiling and her energy is contagious. I am having an excellent time at Onyx and looking forward to staying for the next years.
Had an issue when booking my room as it was a group booking. Aneeta gave me a call and sorted it out for me. She was very helpful and polite, she made sure that all my friends got the same flat.
The Onyx is within a 7 minute walk to my university and my current room is a nice place to spend studying and relaxing when I am not in class. A big thank you to Elena who sorted a room change and the staff are always kind and helpful. Security have always acted immediately to resolved any noise issues within late hours and the social spaces are very good - the table tennis is a nice edition too. Close to supermarkets and a fun place to hang out with friends.
I enjoy living at onyx, there are so many facilities to use and the social spaces allow to make new friends. Being a dancer at Aston has meant that we are able to use Onyx’s for dance events which has meant we’ve had big spaces for practicing dances but also using the cinema rooms. Thoroughly love my stay at Onyx.

I’ve really enjoyed my stay at Onyx so far! All the staff were super helpful during moving in week and the accommodation itself is great - the rooms are a good size and the social spaces are excellent too. I’m looking forward to organising some fun events with Onyx and Aston Snow Club this year!
This is my first time staying at Onyx after having previously stayed on campus and at Canalside. The facilities, rooms, location and overall experience have been far superior here at Onyx. The social spaces, table tennis, pool table, cinema room and rooftop terrace are all amazing features that aren’t on offer elsewhere and really make staying here a unique experience. The staff are all an absolute credit to Onyx, extremely friendly and helpful with anything you you need. I can’t recommend it enough.
Onyx is a great place to live , my highlight would definitely be the staff. I want to give a special shout-out to Elena. She was a massive help with my dirty kitchen that my room mates left in a state. She cleaned out my bins and satanised everything. She didn’t need to do this but she was very kind to do so. This is what makes a good quality in a staff. She’s also very friendly and a nice person to talk to. In my opinion I think she deserves a pay rise. So a special thank you to Elena🙂🙂🙂

A good accommodation for students with nice study spaces, game area and movie room. The location is ideal as well with only short walks to anything you would need.
Amazing location and well-equipped student accomodation with a gym, social spaces, rooftop areas etc. I attended many events at Onyx this year alongside Aston Hockey and met the lovely staff including Aneeta. Would recommend coming along to events and staying here as a student!
Onyx have been really helpful when organised events such as movie nights take place and the reception are very welcoming to us (hockey club) :)
Whilst staying at onyx I’ve had not one mad experience. All there staff are very kinda and helped me with all the issues that I encountered like forgetting or losing my eye. The location and rooms are also perfect as there is enough space to be able to do all my work comfortably and the location really near the bullring which helped me with getting a job and staying on time.
Efficient staff with great management to help and support as and when needed. Fantastic for partnerships with a university club/society - enjoyed every collaboration with the snow club :)
Lived here for a year now and honestly had such a lovely experience that I am booking again!! A great place to both relax and take advantage of the university social experience.

Frankly Onyx is an awful place to live and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The staff are so rude and the building itself isn't anything to scream or shout about, despite it being almost brand new. There are never enough hoovers and the post situation here is laughable at best. You couldn't pay me to live here again, even though it's in a really convenient location. I heard that before this year the management team here was replaced but it seems that whoever hired the new staff isn't very good at their job. And the worst part? The staff actually pride themselves on how well (they think) they do, it's a joke.
Probably the worst accommodation I’ve stayed at from the poor staff to the poor management it’s a place which wasn’t safe to start with was promised money back didn’t get that back was promised a safe a place had multiple issues with the building during the lockdown had left my room during lockdown came back a couple months later to a empty room and onyx telling me they’ve removed my items from my room and still haven’t explained why a complete breach of contract don’t go to this place it really isn’t worth the money or stress!
I’ve had THE WORSE experience in onyx. I wouldn’t even recommend it to my worst enemy. I’ve made several complaints about not having windows and maintenance not coming to fix my AC for over two weeks while my room was boiling and still nothing. If you’re expecting to get a refund, Don’t. Don’t waste your time or money in this place at all. No one has even gotten back to me about my complaints. I’m not sure about the current management but the management team when we first moved in we’re atrocious, they had no clue what they were doing!😡😡
Onyx Accommodation. The toilet is always clogged up and never flushing right. Same as the bathroom. Asides this, every other stuff here is good to go. Thanks.
The worst accommodation I have ever lived in. The building was unfinished when I moved in and is still not complete. The first term was all about fire alarms, floods and constant construction noise. In the second term, you could only use your room and your kitchen. I usually wait for 48 hours to get replies to my emails. When it is about nobody wearing masks or keeping a 2m distance - nobody cares. But if you want to go to the gym with someone from another flat - you can't do it. To summarise, this accommodation is overpriced, antisocial and simply not safe.
The location and the staff members here are, really, the only positive thing about Onyx. I suppose the feeling of "premium" and "luxury" is something positive as well - although with consistent noise from maintenance; and maintenance entering your flat every day, it slowly starts turning into a negative. Cleaning is alright, I suppose - although there's clear markings of paint on the floor, meaning the whole accommodation was rushed. Social spaces are okay but mostly closed due to COVID-19. The internet and the WiFi speeds drop out very often without notice. Oh, and sometimes they'll let you know that they're turning off water for "water works" literally 8 hours beforehand. I still have to pay the full price, despite the building not even being finished on move-in and consistent maintenance issues. Just go across the street.
Although there have been multiple mishaps, Onyx still didn’t care to reduce or compensate in anyway. Onyx takes no interest in their residents mental health or health in general.
Personally, I believe the management at onyx is terrible. It’s not worth what you are paying for and there has been a lot of trouble with the building. you have limited heating, where as any other other accommodation you can usually control it. They try justify everything when they could easily sort it out. Other than that, the buildings pretty.
Do not live here it is a scam I do not feel safe in this building because of so many safety issues and the flooding has caused me to move out for my own piece of mind as it caused me to become mentally unstable and paranoid. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! The pictures are very deceiving and it is very overpriced and there have been way too many issues here
The building and the social areas look beautiful. They staff are really nice and helpful. The price is alot to be honest
I would not recommend Onyx as the staff that be rude, especially the security staff. They told me a refund would occur and 3 months later it has not. There is always maintenance works and it is noisy, they built it too quick and there have been numerous issues.
Very small rooms, not worth £7,000+ a year. Most accommodations provide weekly/termly kitchen cleans, Onyx don’t. Also, don’t be fooled by photos shown of the kitchen. It looks better than it is, and we’re not even provided a kettle, toaster or vacuum but in the pictures you’re shown a lamp, rug, cutlery. Very misleading images and presentation of the place. Further to this, maintenance issues are dealt with well but any time you have any other issues, Onyx are very tight with what they give back to you. For example, I had a meeting with them about mould and poor finishings in my room, yet they didn’t even offer any monetary reimbursement despite the accommodation being a new build and therefore should be finished to the highest standards.
The effort to make Onyx liveable during Covid was pretty lacklustre. All of the social spaces were closed prior to Governmental Guidelines and also extended past them. Gyms opened up on the 13th of April. Currently, we are only allowed one household in the gym in which we have to book weeks in advance. Amazing potential for the social spaces however instead of trying to manage them by increasing sanitation, they just closed them. We paid for many services we did not receive.
