At Battery Park, students can roll out of bed and stroll to the University of Birmingham or the city centre within a fifteen-minute walk. What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Great accommodation and good distance to university! Many amenities close by, right next to a shopping centre which makes life very easy as there is less need for deliveries (therefore less carbon footprint)
The issue here is noise, being on the lower floors means noise from the echoing car park, these rooms should be much cheaper, why am I paying the same money as someone on the higher floors but I’m sleep deprived and they aren’t. I had fireworks thrown at my window the night before my hardest exam why is there just no security? Drugs dealers and other loud groups loiter under my window until the early hours of the morning playing loud antisocial music. The boilers/water tanks are horrifically loud, same with the lifts and being in the room next to the stairwell I have some kind of fire safety chute that amplifies the noise from the waste room beneath me. I have a view of a black wall outside my window it’s dingy and extremely bad for mental health especially for people of student age, its pathetic none of this information on this room was available before I signed a contract to pay nearly 200 pounds a week for this box. Being in this room has genuinely fuelled my depression-flat206A

I have had such a great time in this accommodation! It is a place full of opportunities to have fun with your friends and course mates. I would just say put yourself out there and know what you have- when you do, use it to the fullest because before you know it, you will be moving on
A convenient location for accommodation, in close proximity to the university. Zeena, Maryam, and all the other staff at reception are always friendly and quick to help you with any problems you may encounter during your stay. With great facilities and plenty of opportunities for social activities, Battery Park is overall a good choice for a university accommodation.

Really good location that’s close to shops and all major facilities and uni.Lovely views form my flat and very spacious . Zeena , recpetionist at the accom, is so lovely and sweet, very helpful with any queries I had etc.

I have been at Battery Park for 2 years now and it has been amazing. The staff are very helpful especially Josh, Agnieszka Nicola Warren and really friendly. The rooms are really spacious and modern and maintenance are very prompt in resolving issues. Thank you for a great experience and I look forward to continue staying next year!
This accommodation has the best events. One of my favourite ones was the Boba tea giveaway and the pizza party. I love that they make you feel so welcoming.
Very good room size and space, including plenty of storage space. The only thing I can think to critique is the shower size, but it is definitely enough room considering the rest of the flat. Great kitchen, with lots of storage space. Really lovely common areas downstairs, can book rooms to use for study with friends, and lots of social spaces. I love the cinema room to play games together with others (connecting via HDMI cable is great). My experience with the maintainance team has been positive, as they sorted out any problems with heating, broken rails, and flat door locks quickly.
Wonderful residence with the utmost attention to cleanliness. Staff are caring and polite and will go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

Recently, I had an injury and the site team at Battery Park were very helpful with well-being and ensuring when I returned to the property all was well and expressed they were willing to aid me in any way possible. This aspect of concern to me was really important. The general service is always top-notch, always able to get parcels, speak to someone if there’s an issue, and maintenance is always sharp.
The staff is amazing especially josh and nicola. They always provide the best input for places to visit and restaurants to visit. They have been so welcoming and have made this a secondary home. I have specifically enjoyed my experience here because of them. They are always enthusiastic and excited to provide their assistance.

I've lived in this flat since my first year of university and will graduate soon. Battery Park is the best accommodation around the campus. For example, the flat is surrounded by a well-established community, such as supermarkets, clothing shops, restaurants, bars, etc. The interior of Battery Park is spacious, the furniture is new, and the flat has all the facilities, including study rooms, entertainment space, a printer, and 24/7 security. It is worth noting that the rooms have very large floor-to-ceiling windows, which allow for plenty of light and good ventilation. The staff at the reception and the maintenance staff in Battery Park were always patient in helping me with my problems. As an international student, living in Battery Park will be one of my most cherished memories of my time in the UK. Er

I’ll be sad to leave this accommodation, it’s perfect. Location is perfect, nearby to a supermarket, accommodation is amazing. Couldn’t complain. My only issue is that the wifi doesn’t work in the kitchen very well and the laundry room is sometimes annoying to use as sometimes people will leave their laundry in the machines. But overall, I love this accommodation and couldn’t recommend it anymore than I already have

Battery park is in a really good location which is quite close to the supermarket. Besides, the infrastructure is quite new. They have a bright and large bedroom for people who live here.

Condition of room was underwhelming when I moved in, with visible dust and dirt everywhere. The strength of the shower head was weak and the shower drain was blocked. Thankfully, repairs are provided in reasonable time given the amount of issues during move in season and the public holiday for the Queen's funeral. Noise from traffic and next door is barely an issue, but living next to the kitchen is a bit annoying given how loud the door slams. There is a lot of social space and common areas, which were put to good use during welcome week. The large study space and leisure facilities like the movie room made me look forward to living here. However, laundry could be an issue with there only being 6 washing machines and dryers for the entire building, with a couple displaying an error message already.

It is located with convenient access to every amenity. Sainsbury's is next door, with other stores about a 5 minute walk away at most. The Sports and Fitness Centre is further down the same street. Campus is an 8 minute walk down the canal. The room I got, 810D, Block B, was clean, spacious, and modern. It had thoughtfully placed outlets, a huge amount of storage space (including under the double bed), and the floor to ceiling glass pane provided a lot of natural light. The kitchen is similar. However, the ensuite bathroom is a little cramped. Staff are always ready to help at the reception, and there is also overnight security. The social spaces including the snooker and pingpong tables, public and private study spaces, are all kept clean. Laundry and rubbish can be handled without having to leave the building. Special thanks to Josh, Claire, and Tony, for making my already great stay at Battery Park that much better. (And also Hall Rep Dexan for the fun events and TON of free food)

Very great social spaces with great ambience. The rooms are quite decent and a very lovely view overlooking the canal. The location is also great with the train station, Sainsbury, Aldi and many food outlets just at the corner. Totally recommend.
