I love Crewe. The grounds are gorgeous and I like that it’s a bit set apart from the rest of Endcliffe. It’s all falling apart a bit but maintenance respond quickly and for the price I can’t complain. Shared bathrooms are fine, and mean you get a huge bedroom, but cleaners only come once a fortnight. Only social space is the kitchen but that’s actually ok, at least my flat are very fond of it. Lots of natural light and greenery which is always a bonus. It also has its own car park for anyone who drives.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

When arrived all the walls were covered in mold took about 2 weeks for them to actually deal with it.
Hello and thank you for your review, we are very grateful. I am sorry to read that you had issues with your accommodation. If there are any issues Customer Services will be happy to assist acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We aim to have issues sorted as soon as possible but when close to 6,000 students move in there is a huge surge in requests and sadly this can sometimes cause delays. We also have to prioritise what are deemed as more urgent things i.e. leaks. Best wishes, Sharon
Crewe is quite a nice place. Rooms have a lot of space and we are surrounded by green. It is in a good location to shops (like a 10 minute walk) and around 20-30 minutes to uni depending where you need to be. It has its own laundry so we dont need to travel to do washing and maintenance are pretty ontop of things (like something gets fixed very quickly after a maintenance request. However, the social space is just limited to the kitchen area but that hasnt stopped people socialising :d. Have enjoyed living hear
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's great to hear that you are really enjoying your stay with us. :) Best wishes, Hollie
A very pretty place to live. Nice that the bedrooms are really big and there's lots of natural light. The internet connection isn't that good in places though and there aren't as many social spaces aside from the kitchen.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's great to hear that you like your room in Crewe Flats. If you are experiencing issues with the Internet connectivity please do not hesitate to contact the IT Services team for assistance. Best regards Hollie
Great location, close to shops and the campus, have to walk to the student village to pick up parcels but our rooms are much bigger than the ones i’ve seen in ranmoor or endcliffe. Signal around the area is shocking but it’s not an issue when in your flat. Would live here again.
Thank you very much for taking time to leave a review, we are very grateful. I am glad to hear you like Crewe flats and that you would live there again !. It is a lovely block full of character and surrounded by lots of trees and green open spaces. It's close to the shopping area of Broomhill where you will find not just supermarkets but cafes, bars, chemists, hairdressers/barbers and tons of charity shops !. If you are not in when Amazon etc call you can pick your parcels up from the Edge if you live in Crewe. Sorry to hear that the signal is not great but glad to hear it's ok in your room. If there are any maintenance issued Customer Services will be happy to help acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. Best wishes, Sharon
Crewe is a cosy block, I love the location in it's own little green space, with (okay) tennis courts, and very close to the botanical gardens. We can still easily get to the edge and the rest of endcliffe for events, friends, shop, etc. The rooms on the ground floor are massive, but my room on the top floor is a good enough size and feels more homey than the newer blocks. We don't have a sofa in our flat (not sure if that's the same across Crewe), so only social space is the kitchen but this works just fine for us! Shared bathrooms has not been an issue other than just trying to keep on top of a cleaning rota every other week (cleaners come 1 every 2 weeks) - depends on who you share it with but haven't really had any issues with trying to use the shower and it being busy etc! Maintenance are pretty good, we had a couple things to sort in the first few weeks and they were relatively efficient with most of it. Overall, I would recommend - especially for price difference vs ensuite.
Hello and thank you for your lovely review of Crewe flats. We really appreciate it. Crewe is a lovely place to stay. It's full of character and surrounded by trees and open green spaces. You will never be sharing a bathroom with more than 6 people in standard accommodation and all communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks. If you wish to meet up with friends then there are loads of events at The Hub and The Ridge or you can book the Green Room where you can watch a film, play a game or just have a chat. Best wishes, Sharon
Really big room, good location near botanical gardens and close to medical school. But is further away from main student village. Cleaned fortnightly but quickly gets messy again. No sofas but table and chairs. Overall though good value for money and the grounds are really pretty
Thank you for taking the time to send us a review, we really appreciate it !. Crewe is on the outskirts of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe student village so it's close enough to use all the facilities and attend the events but can be a little quieter and it's 5 minutes closer to the main university campus. The Botanical Gardens are a couple of minutes walk away but the accommodation site is also surrounded by trees with lots of open green spaces. All communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks but between that time it's up to you students !. The cleaning team do not clean bedrooms either. Best wishes, Sharon
Lovely location, many snazzy trees and squirrels
Hello and thank you for your email, we really appreciate it. Crewe is a lovely area surrounded by trees and lovely green open spaces to be enjoyed by everyone, particulaly the squirrels !. Best wishes, Sharon
nice location near the botanical gardens, the university and student amenities . Good value for money .There are two large bathrooms between 4 of flats mates which had never caused any problems However the only communal area is the kitchen which can make hosting difficult. The WiFi and signal are a little spotty but overall it's a lovely place to live .
Thank you for taking the time to send us a review, we are very grateful. This accomodation block is in a great location surrounded by trees and lovely open, green spaces. If you choose standard accommodation you would never be sharing with more than 6 people and all communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks. If there any maintenance issues the Customer Services team will be more than happy to assist, acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk Best wishes, Sharon
Living in Crewe has been an enjoyable experience for me. The facilities are good and any maintenance issues are solved very quickly. Even with shared bathrooms, there are only 2 people to a bathroom which is very reasonable. Room size is small but a lot cheaper and location is ideal as you’re just outside of Endcliffe and a 15 minute walk from Uni. Crewe halls also have their own tennis courts and washing machines which is very helpful.
Thank you for taking the time to sent through a review, we really appreciate it. I am glad to read that you have enjoyed living in Crewe. It is a lovely block surrounded by trees and open green spaces. The shared bathrooms and other communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks and as you mentioned there are washing machines situated close by. If you are looking for cheaper accommodation but still want to be in the heart of the student village then Crewe is a great option. Any maintenance issues shoud be reported and you can always call into The Edge Customer services or email acs-customerservices.ac.uk and we will be happy to help !. Best wishes, Sharon
Crewe flats have a lovely exterior and beautiful grounds around them. It has its own separate facilities which is very helpful and has well sized bedrooms. However management is not great as we have often gone without hot water and wifi where nothing has been done. We have had regular maintenance issues where some have been resolved and others have not. Overall not too bad but could be significantly better.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's great to hear that you are pleased with Crewe Flats and its facilities. We are sorry to hear that you have encountered issues pertaining to maintenance during your time here so far. Please do not hesitate to log these issues again for the Customer Services team to investigate, if they are still outstanding. If you ever need anything else or have more feedback to share, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re always here to help. Best wishes, Hollie
Very spacious rooms for student accommodation, could probably fit a drumset in my room and still have space to move around. Maintenance is good, stuff gets fixed within a week max but usually takes a day or two. It's about a 20min walk from the uni if you walk quickly. There are biweekly cleaners that clean the communal areas, kitchen and bathrooms.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we are very grateful. The rooms are spacious and while you could fit a drumset in we would ask you not to as not sure your room mates would be too happy !. Seriously though, if you are a musician there are bookable music rooms on the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site with Steinway pianos. My colleagues in the Customer Services team are always on hand to help out with any maintenance isues acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk The walk to main campus is around 20 minutes as you mentioned and is along a well lit main road. It's an easy walk and there is also a cycle path if students wish to cycle and there are secure bike parks across the university. All communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks but the cleaners will not clean bedrooms and it's up to you students to try and keep the communal areas in some sort of tidy state between cleans !. Best wishes, Sharon
i like crewe! big rooms, nice courtyard view, good amenities. the kitchens are large and have everything you need, bathrooms do the job, laundrette on site. my kitchen is split into two smaller kitchens which limits socialisation, but most flats have one big one so i don’t know what that’s like for them. further from endcliffe village than i would like so it’s quite excluded from that activity, but still only a couple minutes walk. definitely great value for money compared to other accoms
Hello and thank you for your lovely review of our accommodation in Crewe. Crewe is a lovely building with lots of character and surrounded by tress and lovely green, open spaces. It's just a few minutes walk away from the centre of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site where you can take part in loads of fun events organised by the Residence Life team and many of these are free. There are loads of themed nights at The Edge bar and it's close to the village store if you need anything. In our standared accommodation you will never be sharing with more than 6 people and all communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks. Best wishes, Sharon
affordable accommodation with nice grounds and a lot of character. has its own laundry, table tennis and tennis courts. however, social spaces aren’t the largest, and when there are maintenance issues which are quite frequent they are not always addressed in a timely manner if at all such as the showers which are regularly without hot water and wifi which regularly cuts out and requires you to log in again. however crewe flats are at close proximity the the main endcliffe village as well as the university campus
Thank you so much for adding a review, we are very grateful. Crewe is a lovely accommodation block with loads of character. It's surrounded by trees and lots of lovely green open spaces. Our colleagues in the Customer Services team are happy to assist with any maintenance issues you may have acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. This block is on the outskirts of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe village so it can be quieter than some blocks but it's close enough to the facilities that the site has to offer and a few minutes closer to the main campus. Best wishes, Sharon
Good place, cheap because it’s shared bathroom but this hasn’t caused me problems yet so I’m happy with it. One of the toilets makes a demonic noise when you flush it, but I don’t think there’s any problem with it. The toilet also isn’t a wet room which is nice. The kitchen (or at least flat H’s kitchen) only had one oven, one hob and one fridge for 6 people. We’ve made it work, but you’ll probably never all be able to cook at the same time. There’s plenty of cupboard space and a big table which is nice. There is no living area or sofas which is standard across all shared bathroom accommodation, so we just use the kitchen as our social space. The rooms vary a lot in size and only some have sinks in Flat H, although this could be different in other Crewe flats. One room (H6) has really bad service + Wi-Fi connection, but the other rooms seem okay. There’s plenty of walkways around Crewe to the main uni buildings and you’re very close to the Broomhill shops and botanical gardens.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of Crewe Flats. We are sorry to hear of the noise your toilet is making - this sounds very scary! We would recommend reaching out to the Customer Services team, or reporting this via the maintenance form so that a plumber may check this over for you. Best wishes Hollie
Overall really good experience. Love how crewe is slightly outside of Endcliffe so much more quite than some of the accommodations by the Edge. Only thing I would change is our shower can sometimes be a bit dodgy but maintenance is always fairly quick
Thank you for taking time to leave us a review, we are very grateful. I am glad to hear your positive experience of our Crewe block. It's location means you can use all the facilities that the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site has to offer but as it's on the outskirts of the student village it tends to be a little quieter and you are a few minutes closer to the main univeraity campus. We aim to get any maintenance issues resolved as soon as possible and the Customer Services team are always on hand to help out )acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk). Best wishes, Sharon
Living in Crewe is the best decision I could've made. Huge, cozy rooms, real sense of community in my block as there are only 10 of us, but some blocks have bigger spaces and all get along well too. Not as loud as main Endcliffe, way prettier, and just as social :)
Thank you for your review! We're so pleased that you're happy and having a positive experience in Crewe. It really is a beautiful accommodation! If you ever need anything else or have more feedback to share, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re always here to help. Best wishes, Lucy
The grounds are so cute and are one of the reasons why I chose this accommodation! The rooms are also huge and you get your own sink in your room so it’s not that big of a deal that you have to share a bathroom- especially because the shared spaces get cleaned regularly. I’d say it’s really good value for money the only thing is there aren’t any sofas but you could just use the kitchen table,
Thank you for your review! This is such lovely feedback, it's great to hear you've had a positive experience so far! The rooms in Crewe really are a great size, and if you ever would like to get together with your flatmates/friends with a sofa I'd always recommend booking out the Green Room in the Hub. If you ever need anything else or have more feedback to share, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re always here to help. Best wishes, Lucy
Thank you for taking time to send in a review, we are really grateful. Crewe is a lovely accommodation block with loads of character. It's got quirky walkways and is surrounded by trees and green, open spaces. There are even some tennis courts close by. If you have any maintenance issues then the Customer Services team are always happy to help acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. All communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks but the time between their visits it is down to you students to tidy up and cleaners do not enter bedrooms. There is a car park outside Crewe but you need to apply for a permit to park here. Parking Services can help with this parking@sheffield.ac.uk. We do encourage students not to bring cars where possible. It's a 20 minutes, easy walk to main campus along well lit busy roads. There is a cysle path and we have secure bike storage across the university. Best wishes, Sharon
Good location , nice sized rooms. Nice garden and tennis courts, good kitchen
Thank you for your review, we really appreciate it !. I am glad to read that you like your accommodation in Crewe so much. It is a lovely location surrounded by trees and open green spaces. The tennis courts are popular with students and you can borrow rackets from Customer Services. Best wishes, Sharon
very underrated accom in endcliffe! It’s not actually in the village so not as close to other students but Crewe has a lovely community feel and in a really pretty building. It’s also shared bathroom so cheaper than others. I’m in flat E which has huge rooms and is on 3 floors like a house layout- I believe flats B, C, D are similar.
Thank you so much for your review, we really appreciate it. I am so glad to hear you like Crewe. It is a lovely block and only a couple of minutes walk away from all the main facilities on the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site. The rooms are lovely and spacious and if you are ok with sharing a bathroom (you will never be sharing a bathroom with more than 6 people in any of the shared accommodation) then this could be the perfect block for you !. Best wishes, Sharon
Crewe has all the basics for student life it is quite far from campus but that is nice as you can really relax during your time off.
Thank you for your review! I’m glad to hear that you’re finding Crewe Flats has everything you need for student life. It’s great that you’re enjoying the distance from campus as a way to unwind during your downtime - having that bit of separation can definitely make it feel more relaxing! If you ever need anything or have more feedback, just reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re here to help! Best wishes, Danny 🧔🏻
Personally, I love Crewe! It's a great way to get the Endcliffe experience, without being in the louder and busier side of it. The location is good, as long as you don't mind a walk (as is the case with any Endcliffe accomodation). I walk to my lectures in 20-25 minutes, which isn't too bad. Crewe is also close to 2 busy roads with lots of shops and restaurants (Fulwood & Ecclesall), and I can walk to a Tesco or Morrisons in under 10 minutes. The grounds are super pretty, which is definitely one of the main perks. It's nice to be able to go outside and sit in the grass or play ping pong at the table there. Finally, the rooms are quite nice. You can find pictures online, but the rooms seem to be bigger than other buildings. I've found that most people hang out in the kitchens, and the layout makes it quite easy to meet others in neighboring flats. While they don't seem to really clean the hall, you can work out an agreement with your flatmates to make sure nothing gets to dirty.
Thank you for your review! I’m really glad to hear that you’re enjoying the perfect room size and the great green outdoor space within our Accommodation site! We would agree that Crewe Flats are usually a really socialable space so I am glad to hear this is your experience. If you ever need anything else or have more feedback to share, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re always here to help! Best wishes, Sophie
The main attraction of crewe are how huge the rooms are! And they are some of the cheapest rooms available through university housing so if youre comfortable with sharing a bathroom (which is really not a big deal as its only you and 3 others) its a no brainer to go for crewe housing! (only thing it is missing is a living room so no sofa for film nights that other flats do have)
Thank you so much for your review, we really appreciate it !. I am glad to hear that you like the rooms, they are lovely and great value for money. In our shared bathroom accommodation you would never share with more than 6 students so it is a great way to cut down your accommodation costs. If you fancy a movie night you may wish to consider renting out The Green room in The Hub. You can book this out to watch a film or play games with your flatmates or friends. Best wishes, Sharon
Lovely accommodation building with huge rooms and a sink - flats are a nice layout and large kitchen. Clean, close to main endcliffe area and the university.
Thank you for your review! I’m really pleased to hear that you’re enjoying your time in Crewe Flats - it’s such a great spot and there are some great room setups! The layout and large kitchen definitely make it a great place to live. I couldn’t agree more, there’s all of the benefits of Endcliffe and the route into the university is a big plus for sure! If there’s anything else you need or any questions you have, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. Best wishes, Danny 🧔🏻
It took them over a MONTH to clear out a wasp nest next to our bathroom window, which we couldn't shut. 10 people living with 1 shower was quite a squeeze. Very poor communication with halls management, their maintenance line is always busy and will just spring replacement charges out of nowhere, even when the item they were replacing was broken anyway. You're about 5 minutes from the main Endcliffe area so you're a little more secluded, but there are some shops nearby. The internet is fast, though at some point rodents did chew through the cables, knocking out the wifi in half the building. Kitchen size was fine, but no living room, just a dining room consisting on one large table. Overall, quite disappointing.
This is a review of a 10 person flat in Crewe. Your room sizes may vary depending on the number of people in your flat. + Location is closer to main University of Sheffield campus than Endcliffe and Ranmoor by about 5 minutes + Close to several supermarkets + Internet is VERY fast, especially if you use an ethernet cable + Cleaners are excellent, they come every 2 weeks and do all communal corridors, bathrooms and kitchen areas. - No real social space, we just had a kitchen and a room with a table big enough for the 10 of us. Got cramped if anyone came over - WASPS! At the start of the year there was a wasp nest in one of the external vents. This vent was right next to the 2nd floor bathroom window which we couldn't close. We had to share 1 shower between 10 It took WEEKS for this to be sorted due to "a backlog of cases" - Everything in the flat seems to break. Heating went out for couple of days, hot water as well. One time the fridges died and we lost all of our food.
Amazing room size. Shared bathrooms which may put some off but is honestly allot nicer than an ensuite due mainly to there nit being a toilet in your bedroom. Temperature control was not good with some rooms being very cold and others unbareably warm at times. The type of people it seems to attract are amasing, with a relaxed very friendly atmosphere. The social space was a little uncomfortable (cheap plastic chairs) although it was very large and offered plenty of room for party's.
Beautiful surroundings. Lots of green spaces. Across road from the Botanical Gardens. Older hall, so bar and social space has gone, but the flats are huge and there are loads of gardens, a table tennis table and regular-sized tennis courts. There are also great facilities a short walk away at Endcliffe Village (The Edge). Close enough to Uni as well as Broomhill/Eccleshall Road shops and bars.
I think that I like the Crewe Flats from all the flats I've been to! The rooms are massive compared to all the other Ranmoor/Endcliffe accomodations and so is the kitchen (to be fair, we do have one of the biggest kitchens in Crewe). It is quite close to uni and the Broomhill shops. It's not completely part of the Endcliffe village though. I personally love it a lot, because we also have a garden and everything! I think it's also the cheapest accomodation and our cleaner is the loveliest.
Crewe has HUGE bedrooms, it is a okay, it is in flats of 10, no social space only the kitchen. Smells a tiny bit, not in Endcliffe Village entirely, it is accross the road or so, closer to university I suppose. Old building, nice gardens though.
Good value for money, always fix things asap when they inevitably break.
Good social and spacious but everything breaks.
No social spaces! The kitchens were too small and horrible for the ten people in my flat to sit and chat. It was also way too expensive considering everything broke at one point or another, single glazing windows and a broken security box which beeped non stop throughout the year.
