A perfect location in my opinion as it’s not as central to the Edge where it’s always slightly louder. The building is regularly cleaned and issues to do with maintenance are resolved quickly. The door to our building often breaks and it takes a bit longer to he resolved but it isn’t a huge issue. The rooms are perfect and the kitchens are a very social space.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Generally a good space to live. On the expensive side, but with the payment comes the student village in Endcliffe, internet/electricity/water/etc. included, maintenance and cleaning crew, as well as access to events in The Edge, which also has a study space that is accessible all the time - although it is admittedly small and only comes with a few computers. There is a laundrette, which is usually full but is always open so can be used even at late/early hours to avoid the traffic. In my experience the maintenance crew have been good at fulfilling requests, but can sometimes take a very long time. I dealt with an issue of black mould and put in a request when I moved in, as well as two months later, and only got it responded to about two weeks after the second request. However, other times I've had requests answered on the same day/almost immediately.
Hello and thank you for your review of Millstone, we are very grateful. All bills are included in the rent so you don't need to worry about anything while you live here. The housekeeping team will also clean any communal areas every 2 weeks. Residence Life put on loads of events at The Hub and The Ridge and many of these are free to attend. The laudry facilities are through a company called Washpoint. If you check on their website and select the launderette you wish to use, you can see how many machines are available at any time. If there are any maintenance issues the Customer Services team will be happy to help acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. When any issues are reported we do have to prioritise them so if there is any delay it will be that something classed as more urgent may have come up for which I apologise. Best wishes, Sharon
Overall it’s completely satisfactory, in a good location but a little far from the good bus stops. Rooms are reasonably spacious however £170 a week is far too expensive for what is given, especially compared to student housing in the area as there are many nice houses in improved locations offering nicer furnishing with more space at the same or less price for a contract for an entire year, which also takes away the drawbacks of student housing such as circuit laundry and constant noise due to a complete lack of soundproofing from outside making it not infrequent to be woken up in the middle of the night. However, the social opportunities for a first year student aren’t nearly the same anywhere else so that’s really what you’re paying for.
Hello and thank you for your review on Millstone, we really appreciate it. The university does try to keep costs to a minimum where possible but due to the increase in utility bills etc it has not been possible for the university to absorb all the costs. There is private housing available in Sheffield which may be cheaper but we aim to give students the best student experience living in student halls particulaly in the first year. All bills are included in our accommodation plus the events and support of the Residence Life team. Our standard accommodation with a shared bathroom is a cheaper alternative to a typical en suite room. If students decide to live in private housing then Smartmove Sheffield are on hand to assist with this. Accommodation for families | Support for new students Best wishes, Sharon
I’ve lived in Millstone for the first semester so far. Its location at the bottom of Endcliffe was ideal for me, since I didn’t want to pick quiet accommodation but didn’t necessarily want to be right in the centre of the noise. It’s very close to the Edge, Village Store and laundry facilities which makes for an easy trip to get groceries or study. The cleaning service is every two weeks, which I’ve found is more than enough, and the kitchen is modern and spacious. As a flat of eight, we haven’t had any issues with cupboard/fridge/freezer space, or with being unable to use the facilities when you want, since there is two of everything except the sink. The bedrooms are also large, with good storage space including under-bed storage and plenty of shelves and drawers, and a large desk that makes it easy to study on. Overall, I think Millstone is a great accommodation and I’ve been really enjoying my time here so far.
Thank you for your review! I’m delighted to hear that you’ve been enjoying your time at Millstone Apartments so far. It’s wonderful that you’ve found the location to be just right - close enough to the Edge, Village Store, and laundry facilities for convenience, yet set slightly away from the busiest spots to strike the perfect balance. I’m glad the cleaning schedule works well for you and that the kitchen’s modern, spacious design is meeting your needs. It’s great to hear that there’s plenty of cupboard, fridge, and freezer space, and that you haven’t had any issues sharing the facilities among eight flatmates. The fact that your bedroom offers ample storage and a large desk for studying is also fantastic. If there’s ever anything more you need or further feedback you’d like to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re always here to help! Danny 🧔🏻
The kitchen and bedrooms are a good standard containing everything you need. The location is good, very sociable but not right in the middle where it may be too noisy. Cleaned every 2 weeks to a good standard and maintenance always comes within a week if you have any issues. The Edge is a great social space to hang out with friends and the social life is very good. Everyone is very friendly and overall, I am very happy I chose to live in Millstone. I find it takes a while to connect to the WiFi but it usually works.
Thank you for your review! I’m so pleased to hear that you’re enjoying your time at Millstone and that you’ve found the location to strike a good balance - sociable, but not too noisy. It’s great that the rooms and kitchen are meeting your needs, and I’m glad to know you’ve found our cleaning schedule and maintenance response times satisfactory. The Edge really does add to that sense of community, making it easy to hang out with friends and enjoy the social life on offer. I understand that connecting to the WiFi can sometimes take a bit of time, and I appreciate your patience. We’re actively working on a WiFi Upgrade Programme to improve the overall connectivity over the coming years. In the meantime, if you continue to experience issues, please reach out to our IT Services team who are always happy to help. Thank you for your review! I’m glad to hear that Millstone’s location suits you so well, offering a quieter environment while still being part of the Ranmoor & Endcliffe community. It’s wonderful that you’ve noticed the regular cleaning and that maintenance issues are generally resolved quickly.I appreciate your patience regarding the building door issue. Safety and security are our top priorities, and while communal repairs can sometimes take a bit longer because we depend on reports from residents, the best way to ensure a speedy fix is to contact our Customer Service team directly. This allows us to address the problem as quickly as possible. It’s great to know that you find the rooms comfortable and that the kitchen fosters a social atmosphere. I've lived in university accommodation for a semester, and it's been a mixed experience. On the plus side, the location is excellent, just a short walk from campus, and the living area is spacious and inviting. The staff are friendly and responsive to maintenance issues. However, the rooms feel a bit outdated for the money, which can be uncomfortable. Noise from fellow residents outside the building can also be distracting at times. Overall, it's a decent place to live for university, with some room for improvement, including better parking provisions to say I pay so much for it.
Hello and thank you for your review of Millstone. We really appreciate it. The Ranmoor/Endcliffe site is about 25 mins walk from main campus along a well lit, main road. There is also a cycle route and secure bike storage across the university. I am pleased to hear that you find the staff friendly. We aim to give you the best student experience staying in our accommodation. If you have any maintenance issues the Customer Services team are happy to help acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. It is a student village so can be a little noisy at times but we do offer quieter living accommodation. We don't police this as such but it's to give students the chance to live with like minded people who may not want to party every night !. You can pay to get a parking permit to park at Ranmoor/Endcliffe though we do encourage students not to bring cars where possible. Sheffield is a safe city to walk around and we have great transport links including a tram service. Best wishes, Sharon
Located at the bottom of the Endcliffe village so it’s generally quieter than the other accomodation which is good for sleeping or studying but also less social than other areas more central. It’s close to the edge which is where to social and study areas are and near the village store. The kitchen is very modern and a good size with a nice view and has parking right outside. It’s close to the main road which is good for Ubers and getting food delivered. The cleaning every 2 weeks is good.
Hello and thank you for your review of Millstone flats, we really appreciate it. Millstone is on the edge of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site but just a few minutes walk away from The Hub, The Edge bar and 5 minutes walk to The Ridge and the fitness suite at Ranmoor. It's lovely to read such positive comments and we hope you have had a great experience living here. Best wishes, Sharon
Bedrooms and kitchens are standard and nice with a good view. Communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the SU and is 5 minutes from Endcliffe park and Sheffield Botanical garden but can be quite a walk to the city centre. Shops are around 15 minutes away. Social spaces are all by the edge (3 min walk away) and is quieter than most buildings in Endcliffe but also a bit less socialable. Any issues are usually fixed in a week by maintenance.
Hello and thank you for your lovely review, we really appreciate it. It's great to read such positive comments. Ranmoor/Endcliffe is a great place to stay and we hope students have the best experience possible while staying with us. Best wishes, Sharon
Millstone, being a little further away from the Edge (though still only a 1-2 minute walk) means the mania and noise that you get in the centre can be avoided, although there is still a lively/social feel to the place. It overlooks a nice green and the pond, and both the rooms are kitchen are really well-equipped and modern, as well as being much more spacious than some of the other blocks. There are several bus stops and permit car parks, and being at the bottom of Endcliffe, many Millstone residents tend to take the bottom route (Clarkehouse Rd) to get to uni, avoiding the deadly Endcliffe Crescent hill. Only downside is that none of Millstone has a lift...
Hello and thank you for your lovely review, we really appreciate it. Millstone is a great location towards the edge of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site but as you say just a couple of minutes walk from The Hub, The Edge bar and the village store. The site is full of trees and lovely green open spaces. There are BBQ's around the paddock and the pond is a great place to sit and you can feed the ducks and moorhens too !. Some of our accommmodation blocks do have lifts so if this is an important factor in your accommodation just let us know and we can asist you further (accommodationoffice@sheffield.ac.uk). Best wishes, Sharon
Personally, I think Millstone is a great accommodation option for anyone who wants to stay somewhere quiet. It's not very social at all as a lot of medicine students and other students who are in intensive courses tend to stay here (and I'm guessing people who are just more introverted). As someone who was just looking for an accommodation building in Endcliffe where I can meet people and make good friends, this isn't the best building. You're still close by to other buildings and the Edge, so that's a plus point, but there's never anything happening within Millstone. I'm always at some friends flat/building. People can be nice, but most of the building does avoid each other and I find most people don't want to talk. Most uni students haven't even heard of Millstone before. The views from bedrooms is very pretty though and for people with sleep problems, the peace and quiet is probably quite helpful!
Hello and thank you for your review on Millstone, we are very grateful. We do not allocate students by the subjects that they are studying so if you have flatmates studying medicine etc this is purely by chance !. We do this to ensure students get to meet a broad spectrum of students to meet as many people as possible. There are loads of events organised by Residence Life which students can attend and most of these are free and take place in The Hub and The Ridge. In conclusion, it seems that Millstone has just been a quiet block the year you have stayed. We never know which blocks will be lively etc until the students arrive in September !. Best wishes, Sharon
The location is lovely and quiet however there are not a huge amount of transport links to the city centre and the university campus. Millstone is a little further from the edge than other buildings meaning a longer walk to get to laundry facilities and the shop on site. There is an hourly bus that is on the Millstone side of Endcliffe however to get to the more frequent bus it is just under a 10 minute walk up a very steep hill. The building itself is perfect, the rooms are a great size, the wet rooms can be a bit inconvenient but you quickly adjust. Any issues are fixed by maintenance within a week or two depending on urgency.
Hello and thank you for your review on Millstone, we really appreciate it. It's great to hear you like your accommodation. Most students choose to walk to main campus which takes under 30 minutes. It's an easy walk along well lit, main roads. There is a cycle path and secure bike storage across all the university sites if students choose to bring a bike. If you have any maintenance issues the Customer Services team are on hand to help out acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk Best wishes, Sharon
Good spacious kitchen and regular cleaning service
Hello and thank yo ufor your review of Millstone. It's great to hear you were happy living here !. Best wishes, Sharon
The apartment itself is good, the kitchen and living area is also spacious enough with the appliances and furniture you'd need. The location is okay, slightly further away from the University than I'd prefer, but allows for a nice walk each day. The internet is spotty, with connection randomly dropping out every now and then, and taking a couple minutes to connect when I start up my PC or laptop. It's near enough to the Edge for their facilities to be easy access, and the cleaners do a decent job, although your experience with cleanliness in the living space and kitchen will be reliant on flatmates. A large issue when moving in is the lack of a lift. if you're on the 3rd or 4th floors, it can be a challenge to carry the heavier boxes up all of the stairs. The apartment buildings themselves are right next to bins, so easy garbage disposal, and the higher floors have a nice view of the pond and general landscape. Overall a decent experience.
Hello and thank you for your review, we are very grateful. Millstone is in the heart of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site and around a 25 minute walk to the main campus. You can also get the 120 bus along Fullwood Road if you don't fancy walking. It's close to The Edge bar, The Hub social area and the Village Store. It's also a few minutes walk from The Hub and the Fitness Suite. I am sorry you have experienced issues with the WiFi. Our IT team are happy to assist with any issues you may have. Not all our accommmodation blocks have lifts so if this is an important factor in your accommodation please let us know at the Accommodation Office and we can profide further information, accommodationoffice@sheffield.ac.uk. It may be inconvenient to not have a lift but the views over our lovely pond and open green spaces is hopefully some consolation !. Best wishes, Sharon
Endcliffe halls are not the best in terms of facilities but they’re fantastic for social life. They’re quite far from the uni but they’re in a lovely area and I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else in my first year.
Could have done with a cleaner coming more regularly than once every two weeks. The idea of having Residents Engagement Program is such a good experience and a great way to get involved in uni life. The quality of the accommodation is very good and much nicer than all the other Halls I saw at other universities. Although it is expensive, it is worth the money.
