Leadmill Point Biography
Leadmill Point is situated in a prime location, especially if you are planning on studying at Sheffield Hallam University. SHU campus is a quick two-minute walk from the accommodation and a five-minute walk from the train station. You have easy access to all the city has to offer, including Sheffield’s oldest live music venue and even the four-screen independent cinema, the Showroom.
After a long day of lectures, you can unwind in the outdoor social space or challenge your neighbours to a friendly game of pool or foosball in the common room. When needing a quiet space to focus on your classwork, you can make use of the study room.
Leadmill Point provides residents with cosy en-suite and non-ensuite rooms. If you prefer your privacy, you can opt to stay in an en-suite room, where you have your own private bathroom, all to yourself. Should you stay in a non-en-suite room, you will share a bathroom with your flatmates.

Q&A
Leadmill Point is based just on the outside of the city, so noise levels are good. There is one main road on one side of the property, but all other sides are situated around small roads with very little traffic.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others ā particularly international students ā require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a āshort stayā on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and youāll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, youāll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. Youāll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything youāll need.

The cheapest but not with the best services
Thank for your review, we're sorry to hear that you weren't completely satisfied with our facilities. Is there anything specific you would like to recommend?
Management awful, room are not looked after at all. Pest issues, securitu issues.
very good environment and also very helpful and polite staffs, aoutiff most especially has helped on several occasions. i just think the should be more multi cultural events that will bring together people together in the accommodation once a while
Location is perfect, the accommodation is close to everything needed. The prices are really good, especially when considering that the accom is right in thr city centre. If you are lucky enough to have good flatmates the experiance is amazing. However there can be some issues with the room on the moving in day.
Excellent accomodation for student
Thank you for your review!
I recently stayed at a student accommodation and was extremely disappointed with the state of the bathroom. Despite repeated requests for maintenance and repairs, nothing was done about the constant dripping from two different locations in the ceiling, which caused significant damage to the walls and floor. The paint was peeling off, there was brown residue on the walls, and there were stains and black marks on the ceiling. The floorboard surrounding the shower was not properly fitted, the handrail for the towel had fallen, and the wall was crumbling from the towel rail. The plaster from the wall was exposed and chipping off due to the leaking. This made for a very unpleasant and unsanitary living experience. The lack of action from maintenance and the unacceptable condition of the bathroom was extremely frustrating and disheartening. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone.

Well, leadmill home is a home for students to leave and meet new friends and opportunities and leadmill home has been a good place for such.Coming to leadmill home,Iāve come to love the environment and the people from different race, good internet service, clean environment and lovely receptionist who are ready to meet your needs at any point in time, they are really friendly I must confess and everyone here at leadmill home have added positively to my lobotomy stay at leadmill home.
It is really good for students who are looking for a safe and value for money studentās accommodation as it provides overall good service as well as rooms are pretty spacious. Itās near to not only Hallam university but also to Sheffield Interchange & Railway station. There are some issues with the team but if that solved then itās the most recommended place for students.

Cheap rent and good location but my bathroom has disgusting. Thereās brown gunge coming out the walls, a black toilet shaped mark on the ceiling with water leaking out the centre. Thereās damp on a wall so bad the paint and plaster is coming off. Also there was an occasion where i flushed my toilet and water squirted out the wall.

Not very secure as the gates take a long time to close so anyone could walk in. Maintenance requests are often just ignored. General upkeep is quite poor. Bathroom had black mold on thr ceiling when I moved it. Kitchen and bedroom wasn't clean when I moved in either.

Hi! Thank-you for leaving us a lovely review. We are really glad to here that you are enjoying your time at Leadmill Point!
*Staff come into rooms and flats without the required notice for any reason and none, don't wear ID and get aggressive when asked to provide it. Casual promotions staff employed by Unite given unsupervised access to master keys to deliver promo leaflets to bedrooms *Maintenance not carried out within the timeframes set out under the snug scheme and Unipol national code which Unite allegedly sign up to. *Security gates constantly open meaning anyone can walk in off the street. *Site management ignore requests for prior notice for room inspections / maintenance visits and just enter flats when they like - some examples: - - Awaking one morning to find a member of the maintenance team had unlocked the front door leaving it unlocked to come and repair something in the kitchen, No notice given beforehand. Site manager asked the week before to make sure this does not happen again.
Typical Unite Students- The only pros is that I'm here with my friends.
Hi there, i'm sorry to hear that there has been issues during your stay. We would really love to hear more feedback from you to see what we can do to improve your experience. If you could reach out to the team at reception, we will look into this for you - we are always happy to help!
I really don't like Leadmill Point they have really old buildings the worst thing is bathroom .. other student accommodation is also cheaper then Leadmill and has glass cube bathroom and i big bathroom space .. Leadmill ensuite is really really bad .. when i got the room toilet wasn't even clean. And it is very very costly because it is nearby to the university. I have changed my accomodation .. i will never to back there and i will suggest my friends to not to book there
Overall if you want somewhere cheap this is the best place, it's over the road from the leadmill and right next to the train station, also Aldi is about a 15-20 minute walk. I would say that it does feel a bit away from the real student life, I'd say it's a perfect accommodation if you're studying at Hallam, but not if you're at Uni of. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, I would also say that you only have to share the bathroom with 3 other people so it's not that bad, the only downside is the bathroom is not very well ventilated and therefore always has a damp smell about it. The rooms themselves are of a good size, with a 3/4 bed. There is under bed storage but only if you lift your mattress up, making it a bit impractical, i would personally like more storage. I've never had an issue with the internet but i used a wired connection, not the wi-fi when using my laptop/xbox. Overall it's cheap, a fairly good location and decent sized. The people are also great.
Thank you so much for your review, we take feedback seriously as it does help make us better as a whole. im glad you enjoyed your experience here and our team helped your as much as they could throughout your stay!
Absolutely disgusting. Would not recommend living here. It doesn't feel like home, it's dirty and smells bad.
Staff friendly. Maintenance and cleaning could be improved. Room ok except for the room vent of which from time to time let out either cigerette smoke or vaper odour. Had to cover up the vent especially that vapering occurred during the early hours in the mornings ie at 5am and another night at 1am. Inhaling it would be a problem if you have asthma. Do not have a choice of who you share with. Sharing with a nightmare of a person who does not clean up after themselves, leave mountain of washing up 24/7, and the kitchen is left in a filthy state. No cleaning by staff. No 24 hours security.
such an aweful place to live, half the appliances don't work, there are rats and silverfish everywhere, maintenance are coming into you room at least once a week usually at 9am, fire alarm tests are unreasonably long, they move people into your flat without telling anyone, I would strongly recommend anyone to change their first choice accommodation if they have chosen leadmill point.
Great WiFi , VERY basic , very friendly and helpful staff .
Takes me 4 minutes to walk to uni in great location opposite to the station. Great support on site
I have really enjoyed my time living at Leadmill point. So close to the Uni. The staff are great - There is 24 hour security - who I have called upon once or twice, they arrive straight away and are always helpful . I looked at a few other places to live , but couldn't find anything that offered the same value for the cost.
I first came to live at Leadmill 2 years back, my idea was to just stay for my first year at Uni however the experience exceeded all my expectations and I decided to stay for my second year and now again for my last one! The building is located in a prime location, short walk to train station and city centre. The staff is just amazing, nothing is too much for them from reception team, always keen to help or just be there for a chat, to security (Oh god... how many times I had to call them because I forgot my key in my room! always coming on my rescue with a smile), housekeeping team, just fantastic ladies and the maintenance guys who are always there when we break something. Everybody is super friendly and have made these years so amazing and easy for me. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH :-)
I've lived at Leadmill Point for the last 2 years and I'm coming back for my final year in September. It's really close to uni and the rent is really good value. Some of my friends have gone to live in houses but they are further away and cost the same if not more. The staff are great and always helpful and the common room is getting done over the summer so that will be good when I get back.
I've had a great year at Leadmill Point! The staff are amazing and cannot do enough for you. They have 24 hours security so you always feel safe, plus if you lock yourself out they are there in no time to let you back in. There is no better location in Sheffield, I can be on a train back home in 5 minute but also at University in 5 minutes too. The value for money is great, some of my friends are paying Ā£40 a week more than me and have to walk 30 minutes every morning. It's a shame I'm coming up to the end of University or else i'd love to stay next year.
DO NOT STAY HERE. Mouse infestations literally IN MY ROOM, because of holes in the wall that weāre they when I moved in and they refused to fix even after many complaints. This made my room unliveable for a good 6 months whilst they forced me to still pay rent, making me unable to afford the commute to uni and I was unable to go in. This was not the only thing I had maids unlocking my room and coming in trying to take things, happened to me and my friend luckily we were in our rooms both times. Leadmill refuses to do anything about any problem you have and every aspect of the place is awful, AVOID THIS PLACE.
Great place to live. Really good value for money, one of the closest accommodations to Sheffield Hallam.
I really like this halls and really close to the university
Sheffield rent is cheap in comparison to other English university cities, leadmill point was very social and perfectly positioned
Closest accommodation to the uni, right across from the nightclub, brilliant atmosphere and great security
Living at Leadmill Point has been one of the worst times of my life. The students are awful people who get away with being aggressive and threatening to others because Unite donāt want to lose money by kicking them out, and at the very least, the staff are lazy and just donāt care enough to handle situations with aggressors. As for the flats, they are disgusting. We have a silverfish infestation, theres a huge leak in the kitchen, the cupboard doors have fallen off and not been fixed after I have complained about it repeatedly, a friend of mine in another block could hear a mouse living in her bedroom wall, the bin deposits are open and so rats the size of small cats are living in there, and the shower head (the only decent part of our flat) was replaced by another more terrible shower head that water merely trickles out of. Last week a drunk stranger got into my flat because the front door didnāt lock properly and security got uptight with me for reporting it. Donāt live here.
Terrible halls, wouldnt recomend this to anyone. Bed was filthy when moving in so had to wait for a different one to be moved in. The shower is about as powerful as just standing outside in a light drizzle. Strage mould was growing in the sink when I moved in which when reported nothing was done about it. The oven in the kitchen switches off randomly in the middle of cooking which is a slight problem, two of the three knobs also fell off half way through the year and it took a week to replace them. Overall the worst experience and the worst place I have ever lived.
Extremely old rooms that are obviously full of small holes as we litteraly had an EXPLOSION OF MICE, the staff were completely unhelpful with, they were just trying to blame us, however there was no food and we always maintain everything clean. Please don't waste such an amount of money for such a rubbish place.
Appearance of the rooms are very mediocre, Ugly looking curtains, stained chairs in the living room and carpets which are impossible to clean. I have had a silverfish infestation throughout the year in my bathroom and bedroom!! The bathrooms get extremely damp which I presume is the reason for the silverfish in my bathroom but I have no idea how they are in my room! We have had to report the oven, kettle and toaster various times due to them stopping working which is a major inconvenience. The only main good thing about living here is the location and the wifi has always been efficent.
Aside from being very close to the Cantor and Owen buildings, this accomodation is rubbish. Over the year, there have been problems with mice in most flats, as well as security issues concerning non residents entering the accomodation. During the day both gates are left open, meaning anyone can walk right in - on top of this, the doors for the block AND flat in which I stayed had problems closing properly, and so you could walk straight from the street into our flat. The room and kitchen sizes are fairly mediocre considering the cost, and the ventilation in the ensuite bathrooms is virtually non-existent (resulting in pretty grim living conditions). The staff do nothing to prevent the deafeningly loud music playing at all hours, or the constant stench of weed that finds its way into your room. Every week or so Unite will provide some sort of free food at the reception, and you think 'hey it's not all bad', but actually it is. I would not recommend staying here.
Had a miserable time, horrid mouse infestation that the site team didn't try and help with. Only advantage is location.
Everything is great other than the Wifi. If there was decent wifi that lasted more than 10 seconds, it would be location no.1 4sure.
Love the halls! Such bigger kitchens than some of the others!
Very good social halls with great staff and atmosphere.
Unbeatable location and price. Really friendly and helpful reception team. A maintenance team that take everything seriously and act really quickly. Love living here!
perfect location everything is really close Love the flat and my room Staff at always really friendly
although it's in a prime location the laundry room is annoyingly on the other side of the gate so you have to walk through it at night to get there which is difficult when you have a huge bag of washing. the rooms are adequate and standard across all the uni halls although could do with some modernising especially the disgusting and very thin curtains. wardrobes are a decent size. bathrooms are ok. beds need renewing there was an indent in the mattress from who ever lived in this room the year before which was slightly weird. the social room is behind the laundry room and is always full of foreign exchange students. there's one s***** pool table, one Fussball table and then a few stools around the room. also a tv which you can change the channel of by using the buttons on the tv. all in all not bad but try not to be too shocked at the difference from your parents home (: takes a while to get used to. Staff are really lovely as well.
It has been good living here, lovely staff, easy to socialise, but I think the common room could be bigger and better and the price could be reduced
Great accommodation, only problem is that on first moving in it wasn't the cleanest, however for the price I paid it's worth it. Cleaner every 2 weeks to clean kitchen and living area, helpful staff, one of the closest halls to city campus, would 100% live here again
