Q&A
Hi there, various different shops approximately 0.8 miles from The Railyard include Tesco Express, eJoy Asian Foods, Sida Express, Heron Foods (Myrtle Parade), Co-Operative (Myrtle Street) to name a few. In the opposite direction we have a Tesco Superstore located in Edge Hill (0.3mi). We hope that this helps! :)
On check in day we ask people to move pretty quick! There's not much space in our car park so if you could just unload everything into your room in one go and then move the car to a nearby carpark before settling in to unpack in your room that would be fab.
Hi there :) all of our beds have been upgraded to double beds :D and our secret garden has been updated to make it a great place to relax :)

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We use all resident feedback to further improve our services for current and future residents, so it is very much appreciated. Many thanks – Student Roost
It’s fine to live in but upon moving in our oven was filthy to the point it smoked every time it opened, our light was flickering for three weeks in the hall before leaving for Christmas, three of my flatmates have not taken the bins out more than once between them despite having been asked numerous times and the social area isn’t even on site it’s at another location. Location is decent for study but that’s about it

I will definitely be re-booking here as the essential parts of student living (safety, comfort, location and value for money) are all absolutely spot on.
Hi there, thank you so much for the positive review! We're very pleased you have enjoyed your time living with us :)
Student stuff is helping and humble.
The staff went above and beyond for me when I was moving out and are always super nice!
The Railyard is an amazing place to stay. It has everything that I need. You will not regret for sure. I love the ambience , accomodation facilities and the entire package.
Rooms were not as “deep cleaned” on arrival as expected and furnishings are a bit shabby and old but everything has worked as it needs to. Kitchens are great social areas in the flat (a smaller flat is better) and rooms are comfortable and with good storage. Excellent location to get to Uni Of or LJMU and not too far from town/shops. Great outside social areas. Danny on nights is an amazing member of staff, very polite and friendly while still doing his job! Have really enjoyed my time here :)
One of the cheapest accommodations in Liverpool and you get what you pay for. When I moved in there was some issues like a stain that didn't come out on my carpet and water damage on the desk. I had a few issues with my tap/ shower during my stay. The internet access was pretty good but it went out a few times at night so we had to wait until the next day for it to be fixed. The staff and reception were great and welcoming, always willing to help and get things sorted. Its very close to the Uni as well and not too far from city centre/ train station. They have rules in outside areas but these weren't always enforced. Lots of social activities in Myrtle court that's really close by but it would be nice if there was some in my actual accommodation.
The stuffs here ares very friendly. The room is cosy and everything is provided. I had a very good stay here
We are so glad that you enjoyed your time living at The Railyard! :)
Facilities aren’t the best, and the place is kept very clean. Reception are great though, especially josh
Thanks for your review, please let us know if there's anything in particular you'd like to see to make Railyard shine!
It’s great very conveniently placed friendly staff for example jade was very kind helping me pay my rent and was very efficient.
Thank you for your review! We appreciate it and will pass your kind message on!
Living at the rail yard has been very fun! Jade has been super helpful!
Thank you for your review, we love all the fun we have, here's to hopefully more!
Jade and Xavier are amazing ……..
Thank you for your review! We're always here to help and have some fun!
I’ve had a really good time at first year in the railyard, sammy jade and Xavier have been exceptional help and sammy has offered me great advice both with getting help for maintenance issues and in general conversation.
We're so glad you enjoy the railyard and thank you for your lovely words about staff!
First of all, very happy with the services provided especially maintenance. If you have any trouble with anything in your regarding the amenities, once you go to the reception and let them know that, they'll sort it out as soon as possible, sometimes on the same day itself. About the staff, they are very friendly, very good customer services. Social spaces are good but it would be better if they had something more within the property itself especially in the common rooms. My experience with them is awesome.
We are so glad that you are pleased with our customer service and thank you for your kind review! Just to let you know that our students at The Railyard also have access to the social spaces at Myrtle Court, so this may be something to keep in mind :)
Really good value for money and its great to be able to go to Myrtle Court for social spaces. All the staff have been so nice, especially Arianne who was always really smiley and kind!
Thank you for your review! Myrtle Court is great for the social spaces and just across the road! We love being all bills included too with no hidden costs!
Amazing staff and the overall community experience is very welcoming would recommend to others
Ariane and the staff were very helpful, especially with the incident that happened in our flat
Thank you for your review! We hope that we can continue to strive for the best here at RY
Overall I had a great experience and the staff here are amazing and very helpful especially Ariane, Danny and Xavier.
Thanks for your great review, we're glad you're enjoying our accommodation! Hopefully we'll see you here next year!
Great location, cooperative staff. Staff members Ariane and Emma have been amazing in particular, I have had a few issues with my flat and they were the ones who helped me out the most. My time here has been incredibly pleasant and I would stay here for the second year as well.
Thanks for your lovely review about your accommodation and staff! We really appreciate it, if there is any other issues, please get in touch! We will hopefully see you again for a second year!
Amazing excellent place to stay while in campus. Highly recommended
Thanks for your review of our accommodation, I'm glad you enjoy living at the railyard and being close to campus is something we love!
Very lovely accommodation very good community of people and great staff. In particular in the day staff Emma , Ariane, and Imogen and Gosia and the night staff sammy and Danny are just amazing and make it a great place to live for first years 👍
Thanks for your great review, We're so happy you enjoy your home at The Railyard, and our great team members! Feel free to look at rebooking for your second year!
Very lovely place to start living alone. Great friends, great fun and very helpful receptionist.
Thanks for your lovely review of The Railyard, we're so glad you enjoy living here, hopefully we can continue to grow together!
I'm happy with the time I spent in this accommodation, and satisfied with the cleanliness and quality of the room. The social space is quite poor. There is an excellent on-site team, especially Josh on reception. He is always willing to help and is a friendly person to see and chat to each morning.
It is really cheap as compared to other accommodations in Liverpool but it is not as good as i thought it would be. The social space and social activities are almost non-existent.
Hi! Thanks for your review. I'm sorry that you're expectations of the Railyard was not met, while we do not have on site social spaces unfortunately we give all residents of The Railyard access to Myrtle Court just across the road which is another Student Roost accommodation equipped with a TV Lounge, Games room and Communal areas. We also run our many events at Myrtle Court. At the Railyard, the secret garden is also a great hangout spot for students. I hope that we could better your experience if you was ever to live with us again!
great accommodation at a decent price compared to uni halls
Thanks for your review of The Railyard :)
In The Railyard, I experienced no issues in terms of the room I lived in which is great, however the rules for after hours (i.e. 11pm onwards) arent enforced properly. I had instances where a flatmate would disturb my sleeping which was irritating because of the lack of soundproofing. Bathroom was perfect for my needs. Kitchen on the other hand, doable but really awkward to sort a spot out for dishes and other stuff. Lack of proper AC leaves sometimes awkwardly lingering smell which displeased me and gave me a reason to barely use it. Also the rules of jointly cleaning the kitchen are unfair if you were in a situation like me where I had to run through every shelf and grab every item you possibly see to not get charged. Really really kind staff overall. I would only recommend this place if you are a little party like, or if you prefer having some people that you can talk to and are socially quiet. Shout out to the lovely staff members such as Maggie, Kim, Sammy and Imogen :)
Decent accommodation, better value for money than the UCL halls I spent last year in. No social spaces but can use Myrtle court which is okay. Wouldn’t spend more for a silver room if I had the time again, I’d rather have the extra money, but it is a nice sized room. Danny and sammy are especially nice and helpful staff
So cleanly accom and Good supportive staff. Also place for social entertainment
The location is very good, close by to university of Liverpool & local shops
A great place with friendly staff & students, with affordable rent prices over the year, and with great opportunities throughout the year by hosting wonderful events to interact and make new friends. Excellent safety.
Absolutely love living here, the staff are lovely especially sammy!
Such a lovely accommodation! Great people in reception and such a supportive team
Hi there! This is so lovely to hear, our dedicated staff always ensure that students living with us feel supported and are them for them whatever that may be! Thank you for your kind review, we are so glad you enjoyed staying with us at The Railyard :)
The people who work at the railyard are exceptional! Honestly made the experience so amazing living here. Would recommend!
Hi there! Thank you so much for leaving a review for The Railyard! We are so glad that our staff ensured you had a pleasant experience and to hear that you would recommend us as an accommodation provider! We always strive to make a students' experience whilst staying with us the best that it can be :)
During my time at railyard I had a fantastic time with my flat. They were sociable and fun which is all you can ask for when moving into student accommodation. In particular there were 4 staff members that were a cut above the rest and made me feel safe and happy, I also felt like I could go to them with any issues I had and they would sort it out. These staff members were: Penny, Emma, Danny and Liam.
Thank you so much for the kind words! We're so glad you had a lovely time during your stay!!
The Roost team have made me feel super welcome this year! espcecially Penny Liam and Danny, what a bunch of doods. Didn't love the rats though, those fellas clearly lift
Thank you fopr the kind words but PLEASE let us know if you've seen any unwanted critters so we can call our contractor out for an emergency check!
My time at the railyard has been most enjoyable, from the onsite social spaces such as the secret garden to the community feeling generated by the staff and fellow students. Penny and Liam as well as the other staff have made my experience an unforgettable one! They have always been there to talk to me and my peers when we needed them and have been fully supportive of me all year.
I'm glad to hear that you've had a lovely time here this year! Thanks for the review and kind words :) we're here for all of our residents 24/7 and always happy to chat and help out anyway we can
The Accomodation is a bit dated, but the sense of community and staff well make up for it. All are fantastic, notably Penny, Liam, Danny, Sophie, and Emma. The real(yard) OGs.
We are a little vintage, although we're getting a big upgrade this year as we're getting furniture upgrades in all the rooms! Thank you for the kind words about the staff, I'll be sure to pass it on :)
When we first moved in, there was loads of flies on top of the fridge, dodgy oven, grill setting didnt work, microwave didnt work (got it replaced), overall state of the flat was not great to say we had just moved in. Constant problem with the taps and shower. Room itself was ok but carpet had stains on it that i couldn’t wash off. Not great really considering pricing, although it is one of cheapest in liverpool so can’t expect too much. Staff is helpful. I don’t know if i’d recommend as a first year but then again it is cheap, not great for socialising personally .
Thanks you for taking the time to write this review, and thank you for the kind words about the staff. I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations when you first moved in, we've taken this on board and have extra steps in place this summer to ensure that this doesn't happen again. The issue with the water pressure is being rectified in the coming week as well, although it has been a doozy to get sorted, and we do apologise. If you let us know your room number, we can get the housekeeper to clean the carpet for you. This has been an odd year for making connections, and thankfully most of our students have made lasting friendships with their housemates this year, but we appreciate that it hasn't been the case for everyone. If you would like to you can download our Neighbourhood app to help you make connections with other Student Roost residents, and if you have any suggestions for things we could do to help, we're all ears :)
Had an amazing first year halls experience here, the accommodation itself is absolutely worth the price however Railyard wasn’t as much the place as it was the people. Had an amazing first year experience, all things considered, thanks to the other residents and the staff especially. Danny is the life of the railyard always doing his best to make sure everyone on sight has the best time possible and I can’t thank him enough for how much he made me and my friends fully enjoy our stay at railyard.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm so glad to hear that you've had a great time this year. I will pass on what you said to Danny, he is an absolute peach!
The staff and students are what made staying at the railyard so enjoyable. The building is outdated and badly needs renovating, since everything seems to be in a state of disrepair JUST bad enough that it doesn't need replacing. However, the social life here is very good and people like Islam, Penny, Danny, Emma and Liam (as well as all the other staff) are as friendly as could be. There's somebody in reception 24/7 which is fantastic
Thanks you so much for the kind words about our staff, I'll be sure to pass them on :) We're glad you've had a fun time and felt safe and secure whilst doing ti :) The Railyard is a little bit vintage but that's part of its charm - the beds are all being upgraded this year so we are going to see a big difference there!
I’ve lived here for the past few months, notably over the lockdown period, hence the rating for the social experience. I like the location as it is close enough to the city, university and supermarkets, but not right in the city. Although there have been issues with noisy residents, repairs needed, the kind staff have been quick and efficient in their replies and in taking action. If you’re someone who likes to live in the outskirts, have a good view (I do have one at least), I’d definitely recommend the Railyard.
Thank you for the kind words :) we know sometimes things go wrong, but we're glad that you have found the staff have been on the ball about solving issues quickly. Also glad to hear that you have found the location to be good, and we would love to be putting on more social events but we just aren't able at the momnet due to lockdown. Hopefully, hopefully we will be able to soon!
Expensive accommodation that was not clean when I initially moved in. My bathroom had a sewage smell for weeks that I had to have people out to 4 times during my stay there, it was not pleasant. The 24/7 security advertised is not true as most evenings and weekends there was no one on the desk and you had to call the other roost a few mins away if you needed something, very inconvenient. The only perk of the accommodation was that for the university it was close but overall I would not recommend it as a place to live due to the lack of cleanliness and slow response to solve issues.
Hi, We are genuinely sorry to hear that this was your experiance. We had a number of issues last year with the external cleaning company used to prepare rooms for next inlet of residents that resulted in members of our full time team doing additional hours to get everything ready, we can only apologise if your room was not to a reasonable standard of cleanliness upon your arrival. we have not renewed our contract with that company for this years summer cleans. although we did struggle with staffing issues earlier in the year. we have not rectified this issue and have 24/7 security over both sites. during that time we always had at least one member of staff doing patrols and answering phones and emails over both sites. We take great proide in our maintenance team who work over both sites around crown street, they strive to go above and beyond and endeavour to rectify issues as soon as they can after they are reported to us. If it is something we cannot fix in house, we have external contractors that can come and do more specialised tasks. If something is taking longer than usual we are always happy to answer questions or chase up answers on yoru behalf.
I don't recommend this accommodation: uncomfortable bed, mould in the bathroom, very noisy, the windows is not soundproof neither cold proof, the room/kitchen/building is badly maintain, no 7/24 reception, no social spaces in the Railyard. Expansive for what it is.
Hi, We are very upset to hear that this was your experience. We replace a number of matresses each year and check for damage at each inspection, any matress that is unsuitable due to age we will do our best to replace if this is reported to us. With regard newer matresses; we advise buying foam matress toppers if the firmness/softness of the bed is not to your particular taste. We have also in the past stored matresses if residents have brought their own from home. Our in house maintenance team is very good and will do their upmost to rectify any maintenance issue in a timely manner as long as it is reported to us. Sometimes the seals in windows can become less efficient with time and may need adjusting or replacing, our in house team can do this when needed which usually solves exterior cold and noise issues.we have now solved the staffing issues regarding 24/7 security. although we do not have social space in the railyard, we do have a good social space at myrtle court, a two minute walk away, that is available for use by all residents of the railyard.
No 24/7 security false advertisement !!!
Hi, we did suffer with some short term staffing issues that meant we could not provide 24/7 security across the both sites in the vacintity. at all times we had at least one member of staff in one of the receptions who would do patrols across both sites. this has now been rectified after a number of positions where filled earlier in the year.
Railyard student accommodation is a nice place to stay for me. It is not expensive but the circumstance is clean, safe and quiet. Not far from the place I study.
Hi I'm glad you've had a lovely stay and that you feel you've got your money's worth :) we endevour to provide the best quality for money in terms of m=both your stay and your location from uni
Really nice place. Yuki is nice and helps out with everything.
Thanks for your review! Yuki is the best :) all of our staff try and be as helpful and friednly as they can at all times :)
It’s got a bed and a shower, that’ll do
We're glad you feel your immediate needs have been met :'D you're entitled to use the Myrtle Court facilities (just a 2 minute walk away) such as the pool table and TV/ living room at any time, so just pop over and ring the bell :)
Value for money but the private laundry company reallyy needs to be improved
Thanks for your review, we're glad you think we're good value for money :) we can use your feedback to pass onto our contracters :)
The staffs are very friendly and management is pretty nice :)
Thanks for your feedback! Our staff are known for being friendly and kind so I'm glad they have lived up to expectations :)
Nice person,wonderful experience.
Thnks for your kind words, we're glad you're having a wonderful time with us :)
When I came my room was completely dirty, the carpet is in such bad conditions that even though I've passed the hoover many times sometimes I still find hairballs tangled up to ir, I guess from girls that stayed here before. The bathroom was even dirtier than the room itself... I spent a whole afternoon cleaning the bathroom with Bleach. The people are friendly and the staff is friendly too but the quality of the rooms is bad considering how they could be with a bit of care.
H :) first of all thank you for your feeback and we're glad that you found our staff so welcoming. We're really sorry to hear about your experience when you arrived, it's not the norm and we take it very seriously. Please come and see us at reception or drop us an email and we can try and rectify the situation for you. We're sorry our normal standards haven't been kept but your feedback allows us to constantly improve and ensure it doesn't happen again.
A pretty good living experience
We're glad you've had a nice time, we aim to ensure everyone who stays with us has a positive experience :)
nice place to stay , friendly staff
Thanks for your feedback, we are happy to hear you've had a good experience with our staff :)
Great accomodation but lacks common room
Hey :) we're glad you love it here! Anyone staying at The Railyard has access to the Myrtle Court facilities including a common room/ TV/ pool table and games, just pop over to the front door and we'll buzz you in :)
Best place to live for your university life, the staff is very friendly and the neighbours are like family. I would recommend to anyone who wants to live near the campus.
Thank you for such amazing feedback :) we really try and foster the feeling of family and being neighbourly here. We're glad to hear you'd reccomend us and if you do we're currently runnig a very limited offer where if you refer a friend you get a £150 Amazon voucher!
Great experience i really enjoyed my time spent here.
The reception services is very good. The room is good and value to live in.
It’s a excellent place for students. Staffs in reception are very kind and nice.
I stayed in a bronze ensuite this year. Pros: Close to university Nice bathrooms/showers Friendly staff Large desk in room Shelf space Cons: Cheap furniture in rooms See-through curtains that flood room with light early in morning Old-fashioned kitchen Cannot access common room in Myrtle Court with key

The apartment has a professional administration team. All the staff are kind and helpful. It’s a good experience of living here.

It’s a very nice accommodation for students. The price is suitable and close to the University of Liverpool. It,s also convenient to buy something in the market because there are many markets around there.
Less than a 10 minute walk to the nearest UOL campus. No need for bus fares so you will save £££ by living so close to use and shops.
Very good living experience and warm staffs and services, and it is close to university campus , strongly recommend the Railyard student accommodation.
We are glad you are having a great experience living with us, we try to make our students stay as enjoyable and comforatable as possible. Thank you for reccomending us
the location is very good. reception is friendly
We offer a 24/7 service and always with a smile as we love to help our residents.
great location , nice reception
Thank you. Not many students know our exact location as we are classed as a L7 postcode but closer to Liverpool Uni than most L1, L2 & L3 postcodes. It takes our students about a 10 minute walk to get to the nearest Liverpool Uni Campus. With lots of food places and shops along the way! :)
Last year of studying in Liverpool Uni and I am going to miss living at The Railyard. The whole experience of meeting new friends for life from my flat share and having a comfortable and well located accommodation for uni has really made my time In Liverpool even better. I live in a bronze en-suite my room is a lot bigger than some friends who live in a new build, I have a good sized desk and plenty of storage. I have already recommended others to stay here as I know they will enjoy it too.
Thank you for your review, we hear lots of stories like yours making friends for life from the flat shares which we love to see as it is such an important part of Uni Life.
This accommodation is convenient for university life. It provides a great experience and has always been improving the facilities all the time!
We are proud to have a great location for any student wanting to study in Liverpool. We are a 5 minute walk to the nearest UOL campus. We have a great selection of resturants, stores and bars all within walking distance.
Been at Railyard for 2 years now, the location is the most important aspect as it takes 5 minutes to walk to my Liverpool uni campus. The kitchens are really spacious and the shower is very good. Nice staff who would do anything to help.
Our kitchens are a great space for you and your flat mates to socialise and cook in. We do receive lots of compliments about our showers being powerful! :)
