All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Read Cedar House Reviews
Had pests all year- maintenance regularly ignored reports, pest control called to spray floor but source never looked for. Rats constantly running round. Hob broken- maintenance ignored and we were told by a staff member to ‘report it until they get annoyed enough to come look at it’, however when they came up we were told it was slow but not enough to fix it (bacon took 45mins to cook). Window in flatmates room was broken and loose- parts came to fix it but staff didn’t do the job until 3 weeks later. This was during the coldest month of the year - the room was freezing and outside noise was polluting the room. Washing machines regularly broken- at one point there were around 6 machines for the whole unite village to use (there are 4 accommodations in the village some with multiple blocks). Wifi didn’t work all year- we were told it was not Unite’s responsibility as it is up to the wifi company to fix it but the wifi company did not do so. Staff ignore emails

My radiator was broke for 3 months and nothing was done about it. The place is crawling with silver fish. My oven hasn’t worked the entire time i’ve been there, which is nearly a year, despite maintenance being called numerous times. The staff however are lovely and really really pleasant to deal with. However, if you are moving to liverpool this September I would not recommend this accommodation to any student.

Overall, Cedar House has been a decent place to stay as it is next to the Uni of Liverpool campus and I have met 2 of my best friends whilst staying there. However, there is a lack of social events and sense of community which I believe would improve the accommodation.
Thank you for your review! Your feedback is really important to us and we'll pass this onto our management team to look into!
Good value for money, but too many power cuts and wifi outages
Thank you for your review! Unfortunately our power cuts have affected the whole city centre this year, and we agree, it's really annoying. We'll pass this onto our central team to see what we can do for our residents on-site.
Reallly great I looooooooooooooove it
This is what we love to see! We're so glad you're enjoying your stay with us, and if you need anything at all, please pop to reception!

Mr. B. Colombo has kindly offered his generous help with regards to the heater in my accommodation room. He has helped enormously in explaining how the system works and the way in which I could operate the heater on my own. I thank mr. B. Colombo enormously for his help!
Thank you for your review! We're so glad you got support from the team and we'll pass on your lovely feedback. We really hope you enjoy your stay with us this year!
