All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

my experience at this accommodation has been great! would definitely stay here again!
We are happy you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your feedback
had many issues with the facilities and common safety concerns, as my flat has been broken into however staff have always been very helpful with 24/7 reception fixing these issues and have lost my keys a few times, which has been fixed within minutes by staff
Thank you for your feedback
The lift has been broken for a month and a half!!
Hi, thank you for your review - we are aware of the issue with the lift, the contractor is waiting for a part from the manufacturer, this repair will take place at the end of May - we aplogies for the delay
It’s been mediocre at best, and some issues like the lift being broken for long periods of time frequently or the very very poor WiFi connection makes it unpleasant. My phone is practically always on its mobile data and my iPad goes incredibly slowly when using the internet for projects and assignments.
thank you for your feedback
Staff is very unwelcoming, staff blames students if things go wrong.
Hi, I am sorry to hear you had this experience. If you would like to send further information for us to look into this you can email us at Marybone@sanctuary.co.uk

Thats great, Thank you for your review
Overall Marybone 2 has been a good place to live, it is affordable but the lift is constantly broken and the front door was broken for around a month and homeless people were comming in and sleeping on the stairs
Good accommodation but lift has been broke for weeks at a time, homeless people were getting in and sleeping on the stairs and our tv was broke from day one and was never fixed
so far my stay here was nothing but amazing and convenient. I have experienced many of my friend's flats. But Marybone was by far the most amazing and safe place to stay as a student as it helps me to commute to my college and to the city centre easily. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to my friends who is coming to the UK for study purpose.
Great to hear :) Thanks for your review
Sanctuary Students has been a great experience for me. As an international student, cost is a big factor and I would say it is the most affordable accommodation I have found in Liverpool. The staff are friendly and helpful, regardless of the nature of circumstance. The location is impeccable, not in the middle of city centre but not too far away, extremely accessible. I have had a pleasant experience and have recommended Sanctuary Students to my friends at my university.
Great accommodation to meet people, most are very friendly but constant problems within building such as the lift or building issues, can also be noisy at night
Good value for money accommodation! I would recommend
I am having a great experience at marybone 2. People around are good the staff is helpful and the surroundings are clean
The accommodation was outstanding in every aspect. From the beautifully furnished rooms to the comprehensive amenities. Its prime location made navigating the area effortless. A standout feature was the staff's dedication, especially for providing a room during the challenging mid-academic session. Their unwavering professionalism and courtesy elevated my entire stay. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for anyone seeking an exceptional experience.
Sanctuary Students is a lovely place and affordable, however, some people who stay in the facility aren’t clean and tidy
Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed living with us. For any issues regarding cleanliness within the flat or with your other flat mates, please contact the accommodation staff and we will be able to assist in getting this resolved. The walls are so thin and the person above me can't be managed. Although the management was polite about the loud tenant complaint, there doesn't seem to be a strong implementation of respecting spaces.
Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear about your issue with your neighbour. If you do have problem with your neighbour at Marybone you are welcome to speak with staff to try and resolve this or call security anonymously who can deal with the issue there and then.
