Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
It’s honestly not that good, it’s good for its location and it being 3 minutes from Lidl is very ideal. However, compared to other accommodations such as the Exchange, it is really lacking in terms of additional services such as gyms, recreational facilities and so on. Safety is also a bit of a concern here as it is located next to London Road which is not the most safest part of the city.

Great place to stay in. It is near to the city centre
It has been a really good experience, the location is good and so are the amenities. The people at the reception are really nice and helpful, especially Claire and Ellen.
The dormitory is nice and close enough to the university. The staff helped me a lot when I have trouble during my time here. Thank you so much.
Staffs are really nice there! Could makes you at-home experiences. Location is great!
Overall experience is great! I enjoyed my stay here.
The environment is quiet and the staff has a good attitude, which is suitable for people who like to learn
Overall really good living experience, worth the money.
The location of the apartment is very good with easy access to supermarkets and schools. And not much noise . In addition, the staff is very friendly to help us residents to solve the problems about living.
Helpful and friendly staff, always welcoming when you enter the building and always there to help with any issues.
It has been a good experience living at Great newton house. The building is very close to the University of Liverpool, the UoL library and other stores on London road. They are welcoming to International students and security-wise, its also also recommended.
Great experience living in IQ, the staff are extremely helpful if you have a problem or need questions answering. You are extremely close to the University of Liverpool and all the lecture rooms, also have a Lidl and Tesco express very close by so not far to carry shopping and not far to walk into Liverpool. The rooms themselves are full of storage and the kitchens.
It’s quite a good experience living in IQ! There’s only 10 minutes walk to the University of Liverpool, and it’s very convenient to go to Harold Cohen Library. Facilities in the room are all well equipped. And it won’t be too noisy in the public area. The greatest experience is with its reception service. Staffs are all very kind and willing to assist at any time. That’s a comfortable time during the year with IQ.
my stay at IQ was amazing. the staffs are very friendly and they are always there to do their best to help! my room is neat with lots of storage spaces, the clean common area provides me a good place to socialize. the location provides conveniency to shops and the university, just proximal to everything and saves time from travelling! there was once a time the wifi router was down and there was no internet connection for 2 days across the weekend, but it was fixed immediately afterwards. :)
Disadvantages 1. The building is too old to soundproof. 2. You can see that the bathroom vents are not cleaned. 3. International students cannot use the adapter in the kitchen. (Because of power failure) 4. The smell of the toilet is too bad. Do not live with the door open. 5. The room is in poor condition for the money. 6. Vulnerable to noise-walk upstairs, hear the chatter. 7. The staff offered to help me solve the problem but never helped me. Advantages 1. Close to university 2. Lots of storage space Rather, it is economical and happy to find another dormitory with this money. If you are particularly sensitive to noise or smell, do not live here. I'm very stressed.
Very close to university and shopping malls. There is a tescos and Lidl close by and we have a very engaging staff crew
The location is great, right next to university, walking distance from classes, lidl/tesco, even the city center is just 10 mins! It's managed quite well, the staff are lovely and ready to help with any problem- the online reporting system is quick and efficient with maintainence. Every month there are several events put up, eg free food/coffee, health check ups, halloween parties and provides a good chance to meet up with other students in halls.
The place is an absolute nightmare - not even worth £50 a week let alone 150! I keep my room as clean as possible, even though my flatmates do not bother to do so with the kitchen. The kitchen doesn't get cleaned despite it saying in the contract that they would be. I found a cockroach in my room, and they said I would have to pay for pest control and cleaning. An entire load of my laundry got stolen; and despite having a security camera in the laundrette, they couldn't find who it was and I didn't even get a compensation or anything! I reported a flatmate who was stealing from me and doing drugs in his room and the kitchen several times and nothing was done. The people just smile and act nice while saying they can't do anything. This place is the absolute worst. Don't be fooled by the pictures.
