There are lots of societies to join and the staff at the university are very helpful and respond quickly to any issues.
Bournemouth University has provided an exceptional academic and personal journey. The quality of teaching is outstanding, with lecturers who bring real-world industry knowledge to the classroom. The focus on employability through placements and practical experience has equipped me with valuable skills for my future career. The campus offers modern facilities, and the stunning location by the beach adds to the overall experience. With strong student support and a vibrant community, Bournemouth University is the ideal place to thrive academically and personally.
I think Bournemouth University is a great uni with a really friendly environment. Thanks to the small-sized campus, it feels like a close-knit community where everyone knows each other. One of the things I love most is the close relationships you can build with the lecturers. It reminds me of being back at school, where the support feels personal, and you’re not just another number. The clubs and societies here are amazing, and I’m proud to be part of the biggest one— the Surf Club. Joining it has genuinely changed me as a person. It’s not just about surfing; it’s about the friendships, the sense of belonging, and the opportunities to try something new. Between the campus vibe and the experiences I’ve had here, Bournemouth has been an incredible place to study and grow.
The university provides many clubs and societies ranging from sports and course specific societies to gaming societies. Course specific societies are very useful for communicating with others who have similar interests. I am part of the Sociology society which encompasses all of the social sciences students and have enjoyed going to the ABBA night at the student union club the Old Fire Station and going to bars as well as attending their study sessions. The student union advocate for student voice by recruiting voluntary student representatives from each course. I am a student representative for Sociology and Criminology and my role is to gather the feedback from my peers on my course and report this to the university in order to make positive change. The university value the opinions of students because they have first hand experience of the university. I think the university are successful in promoting student voice.
Trouble is reviews about Bournemouth Uni are based largely on what a great time ppl had at the beach . Scriptwriting MA. Don't waste your money. You have to attend lectures which will be on no use to you whatsoever. Semester 2 was a complete waste of time- Approaches to Industry is a unit that should be delivered in the library for those who feel they might benefit. It should not be on the curriculum but instead they waste your time showing you how to use Linked In when that time should be spent on your chosen area of study. Tip. Just go to the library and ask them to help with your CV instead of sitting in a 3 hour lecture every week. The lectures the whole cohort attend together are of no benefit to writers.and are directed at the other disciplines. The course was badly structured, a third of the class did not speak English and lectures were badly delivered.. Teach yourself..I'ts what you will do anyway. Save yourself the stress and disappointment. Just buy a copy of Syd Field,
MOSTLY SELF LEARNING, LECTURERS DO NOT TEACH. MA Scriptwriting is badly structured that you barely learn from your lecturers, instead your teacher can be a google. You can be a part of somebody's Phd research without your consent. They may use you as a guinea pig. While talking to Dee( lecturer) about collaborative shooting short film problems, I got the response "Shut Up."It is necessary to question how correct an approach in the academic field is a language that cannot control one's temper and exceeds the limits of respect When I told Phil(lecturer) that I was still learning and that I was not a screenwriter, he said, "There's the Door." He implied that you can go out. Lecturers need to control their nerves when talking to students. A style that reaches the level of "Shut Up" is never suitable for the academic field.
Bournemouth university is a great place to study. Many buildings perfect for study and revision. The professors are understanding and can be extremely helpful with any issues you may face on their modules.
