Oxford Point Biography
Oxford Point provides residents with modern student accommodation in the heart of the town centre. Getting to class and the library will be a breeze as all of the Bournemouth University campuses are a short walk or bus ride away. You also have easy access to the train station and numerous shops, nightlife spots and the beach.
If you are in a sociable mood you can join one of the many residents’ events hosted throughout the year or simply hang out in the lounge, games area, communal kitchen or enjoy the sea views from the roof terrace. You can benefit from having a study room, Wi-Fi and broadband, laundry facilities and all-inclusive bills. To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible, there is a security team, an on-site residents’ team and CCTV.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I'm a 3rd year student and I have resided at Oxford Point, Bournemouth for the entirety of my course. When I first moved in (Sep 2022) I was openly welcomed and I felt right at home. As someone who no longer has family in the country, this was a very important element to my experience here. At the end of the second year of my tenancy here, a new company took over the management of the building and the experience sadly took a sharp left turn to the worse. I have never been accommodated and addressed so poorly. Though there are a few commendable members of staff to whom I owe gratitude for their efforts and time taken to listen and support, there are also those who make up an important part of the team, who let us down with their lack of basic humanity. I have been addressed rudely on phone calls, forced to accept changes that were unreasonable and unjustified, and to top it off, though the experience worsened, the prices increased! Unfortunately, I no longer recommend this accom.

Don’t waste your money staying here. I’ve had more issues living in this building than I can count on both hands. Lived on one of the highest floors of the building (16 total) with NO LIFT for 3 MONTHS with no support for those struggling with heath issues / disabilities. We had no updates for when this would be fixed and we’re compensated less than a weeks worth of rent in return!!! Even for those most affected by the issue they couldn’t care less about how you were actively locked in your rooms for so long! There is a perv who regularly flies drones around the building to record you in your room and staff haven’t done anything to support with this either. There is no air con and with a heatwave our room reached 37degrees!!! One of the security guys is extremely rude if you need to collect parcels in the evening or ask for support. Openly swore at us just for asking for our post. The lifts almost always REEK of bodily fluids from the previous night!

Horrible place to live. All the chairs were broken when we moved in and we have yet to hear back from them on when this will be sorted. Along with this, there were issues with my room that have also not even been looked into such as my window not locking properly and my shower clogging and flooding the rest of my bathroom. No communication on when this would be sorted. Electricity shuts off randomly and we're often told to sort it ourselves and blamed and the connection is terrible, normal phone calls can't be made they have to be over some sort of app or the other person won't hear you. We're also paying for a roof top terrace we can't use because they've been renovating it since we moved in and the gym we're paying extra for is small, disappointing and often dirty. Lifts are always broken with little to no word on when it's being sorted. Silverfish are a rampant problem within the building too and the front desk staff are completely useless at getting anything sorted.
Hi, Thanks for your review. Please ensure you are loggin your maintenace and communicating to the staff. We have full time maintenace and housekeeping as well as a reception team who are here everyday to help you. If your electricty shuts off it's likely to be your fuse box, agian you need to comminuate to the team if a fuse trips out in your flat. We are unsure about what you mean about an app for calling people? The gym is one of the largest and brightest in the area and gets deep cleaned and sanitised everyday day. If you are having problems please come and speak to us
So disappointed in this building, I was so excited to live here until I turned up and it got progressively worse. It is so fabricated, 2 girls took a look around a couple of days ago and I really wanted to say to them save your money. Where do I even start! - Boiler plays up, lack hot water every so often - Lifts have broken about 5 times now sometimes have not been fixed for over 12 hours later, when both broke, only one got fixed yet we have 16 floors here- Flat was absolutely disgusting when we entered, had to spring clean EVERYTHING- Silverfish infestation, never seen it this bad and never had this in Dorchester House in my First Year- At the beginning, the laundry was not working, new machines or something I assume - Plug sockets do not work in the Social area since it has been refurbished over Summer - The outside social terrace was supposed to be finished in October however it is now December the time we all go home for Christmas and it is still not completed. Compensation due!
Lift never works , a bit too expensive
Loads of mold in my bathroom and yet they ‘clean’ the flats before you arrive. The shower drain doesn’t work and regardless of how many times you complain in this building, nothing happens. For instance, circuit washing machine wasn’t working and when I asked for assistance, nothing happened. If not for my sister’s washing circuit card, I won’t have been able to do laundry. They didn’t even check up on that. Other students/ residents too had to sort themselves out with a circuit card. Fire alarms go off for no reason. There’s just too much bad stuff happening here. Thank the lord this is my final year. It’s like a Monet, fine on the outside but the up close… hmmmm…

I have lived in Oxford Point for two years now and have chosen to stay for my final year also. I couldn't rate my time here any highly with such amazing staff, the location and conveniency of all surrounding stops. Oxford Point is an amazing place for students. As a masters student I have now lived at Oxford Point for 3 years and have loved every moment of it. The location is perfect for any student as you are super close to the town centre and the Lansdowne campus! The building has a great rooftop terrace so that you can spend time outside! The building also has a great vibe and atmosphere this is mainly due to the incredible staff who will go out of their way to help you with anything you need at all! The staff are super friendly and always make you feel at home. Overall I couldn’t recommend a better place to live and will miss this place so much when I leave! If I could give it a score out of 100 it would be 1000!

My experience in Oxford Point was a little different due to Covid restrictions across 2020-2021. Therefore I didn’t have a full social experience whilst living there. However, the rooms were really modern and functional and the kitchen/living spaces were large and great for relaxing with flatmates. The accommodation is in a perfect location, right amongst other AUB and BU accommodations, with a short walk into town and the beach.

Laura, Rochinda & Patricia are the most wonderful team. They go above and beyond for their tenants within the Oxford Point building. Their phone manner is professional, attentive and considerate. Their faces always light up when visiting the reception office full of smiles of passion for their job roles. They try their absolute best to help with any queries or questions I have. Helping me find parking for my car etc. I find the Oxford Point team an absolute delight. Very happy tenant. All issues are resolved Promptly.

I’m going in to my third year living at Oxford Point. The team are amazing and there’s always a great atmosphere. I’ve met so many friends and there’s a really good sense of community. Most of my friends have rebooked and I would if I could! Always plenty of things going on and the rooms are light and airy. It’s been the perfect home for the last few years.

The place is very modern and my room is nicer than the other accomodations but it's still a lot of money for just a nice looking room. My bathroom wasn't very clean when I moved in and there are rarely social events like I see in Skyline in Bournemouth. Also the social space is always empty and booking system is not clear.

The building management and reception team are so lovely and they are always willing to help you out with any issues you may have. They go above and beyond for their residents, quite often you can pick up a free treat from reception such as energy drinks, chewing gum or toiletry samples. Every so often they arrange a free breakfast you can pick up from reception, with a choice of different drinks and all sorts of breakfast options you can take away. The staff go out of their way to be kind and friendly and they make an effort to try and remember you and your room number-oftentimes I have gone into reception to collect a package and one of the members of staff have given it to me before I can even mention why I am there. There are a variety of social activities arranged in the building such as; diy tie dye, pumpkin carving, and movie nights in the social spaces, and the occasional party on the terrace. Emails and instagram posts keep you up to date on all going’s on in the building.

My room was described as having a sea view, I can just about see the sea between some buildings if I squint my eyes. I’ve also been woken up by construction workers making very loud noises with drills, lifts, hammers etc. every morning since I arrived here in September, excluding weekends. During a flat inspection some peoples personal belongings were searched through whilst they weren’t there. Due to the location of my room in the building, my room was smaller than others that were paying the same price, even the bed was smaller and less floor space was available. Would personally recommend looking for rooms in other student accommodation near by.
Hi there, Thanks for your review. We would be interested to know what room it is that you have as all se view rooms face directly to the sea with a clear view. You can see the see from other rooms but the only ones marketed as having that view are the 'Sea View' en suites. We do understand that the building work on the building behind can be a little inconvenient however that particular building is also student accommodation so hopefully they do stick to normal working hours to accomodate their residents sleeping patterns. We can assure no personal belongings would be searched and room inspections are carried out in pairs so if you have more information on this we would appreciate. All en suites are exactly the same which is 13 sf and have a standard small double bed in all arears of the building. Despite it being a social and spacious place to live for my first year of university, Oxford Point has let down a lot of students and lost my respect since COVID-19. Although the university campus was closed and we were advised to go home, Oxford Point has demanded the final rent instalment for a term where I will not be at university, and therefore not living in Bournemouth. The final instalment is over £1000, for a room I won’t be using. This is a huge let down.

Do not recommend. Oxford Point Management are acting insensitively to the difficult position students are faced with in light of this global Coronavirus pandemic. Both AUB and BU Campuses are closed, and students are advised by their unis to return home. All AUB halls residents are advised that they WILL NOT BE CHARGED their final rent installment this year, and many privately owned halls have followed suit, with rent reductions. The student maintenance loan that many receive is inadequate to cover the cost of Oxford Point Accommodation. It is insensitive and irresponsible for Oxford Point Management to expect students to pay in full the rent when they have no uni stay for, and have been advised to return. It is further irresponsible to neglect to review their Policies during these unprecedented circumstances. I recommend avoiding Oxford Point.

The staff in these halls are mostly friendly. However, I suffered without heating in my room for a month during winter. To add on so far (3 April 2020) we have had little support with the current pandemic.

Would never stay with Fresh Student Living again. Staying here has made me hate university - signing their tenancy agreement was the biggest mistake I've made. Staff have no understanding of fairness and have made my trust falter dramatically.
