Both lecturers and staff have worked hard during the pandemic, although some things could have been dealt with slightly better, overall a good experience
It’s been okay being at university in portsmouth
Worst uni ever. Don’t even bother with it
Excellent university. Great educatio
University of Portsmouth is perfect for those who love the seaside but also want a city feel too, theres so much to do here.
Very good studying experience, free language courses from second year are very rarely offered in this country.
The university is in the Portsmouth city centre. Anything you need, whether shopping, going to university, going on days/nights out, or even the beach is in walking distance. There is a lot of support available.
Good University. Wide selection of societies to join.
It’s alright I guess. It provides me with all my needs as a university student
Good school of Architecture! Great city campus
The university is great the staff is helpful. However I can’t speak much on the clubs and societies as I didn’t get to experience much due to Covid 19.
Portsmouth has a lively and friendly atmosphere, with great diversity and facilities on offer to staff, students as well as the general public, who the university have an important relationship with.
The university of Portsmouth is a great uni. Throughout the past year during this covid situation, they have always kept us to date and they have always fought against the government to get what us students want. Although we have had to learn online for a while which had been difficult, the university has made studying very easy for us with recordings of all lectures and all seminars, with workshops most weeks to engage our learning. It is an amazing university, during my first year when covid wasn’t around, I was in big lecture rooms every week which were phenomenal. Not only that but I got to use very high tech and expensive equipment every single week in my laboratories. Although covid came about midway through the year, the university coped with this and out us students first, unlike the government. For me, there has always been enough help and guidance throughout this unprecedented time to complete our assessments to a very high level.
It's hard to give a real review as I've only been a student during covid which obviously hinders the experience. I've not really heard anything from the student Union since starting uni so I would say it's something you'd have to reach out and look for if you want to know more. The sports clubs are infinitely run by students and the already captains from the previous year picks the teams meaning friends are picked over ability which is very evident especially in football.
Pre-covid review (was part way through second year when covid struck): Great Uni-only issue is with pricing in the "cafe" in the SciHub building (Dennis Sciama building) which is quite expensive: the big bag of sweets which are usually £1-£1.25 are £1.85
I love my University! The people that are here are a bunch of great people that inspire me to work harder! But it would be a bit better if there is more information provided to students before or during your attendance. Then it would be much easier to join activities like in the student union or to know the fact that it exists.
I have had an excellent experience at the university thus far, even during the difficult times I have experienced due to the current unprecedented circumstances. The staff all possess years of real world experience in their relevant industries and a wealth of contact who regularly provide guest lectures and insight into their craft. The facilities are exceptional and the opportunities available rival the best in the country.
Worst place to live in your uni life. Unresonable and always delaying rebates and demanding rent payments immediately. Was told rebate will be in by November then dec then after that saying will be deducted in next rental. Business making company with no sympathy to students. Does not care about students well being at all. Terrible management. Always pushing the blame to another management member. Crown place will ruin your university life.
The university itself is excellent, social and the union are so helpful
Still will not give a partial refund on tuition fees even though everything is online
Great school of architecture, massive building and resources dedicated.
it’s good - they’ve done better that a good majority
The University isn't investing enough in its students. You won't get the experience for the value you're paying for.
You're they have best facilities and technology to teaching faculty in Portsmouth .I like to very beautiful place select this university.
Portsmouth is ok, it’s a bit shady as a city and the university is average. But you get what you pay for. The library staff can be your best aaset use it. Don’t expect too much from the course it’s all about what you put in. It’s not an expensive city. Isle of Wight and Chichester are stunning and on the doorstep. Also very good sailing locally if you love that you are in the right place. Saddest is no union bar. You can get to London in under 2 hours though so.... The sea is the main attraction!
Great Experience over my past four years academically and in all aspects, wish there was a little more support for private housing issues from the University as many students are suffering like myself this past academic year of 2019-2020!
UOP is a great university with caring staff and lot of support when needed.
The university offers a great student experience; from over 200 groups and societies, there'll be something that interests you. The facilities are good and you can always get a laptop from the university library if you don't have one. Most of the buildings are centrally located which means commute times are kept to a minimum - an excellent quality. The student's union is very active and new members are elected every year. There's even a store where you can buy merchandise like hoodies and mugs. Meanwhile, careers and employability is great. It is very easy to book an appointment with them about a CV, work placements or study abroad (or anything else). The university job board is a place where students can look for vacancies for part-time, graduate and internship placements.
Great place to study, learn and have fun. And good WiFi!
Best Uni. Brilliant library and great staff!
The school location is very good.
Honestly some of the best years of my life. This uni provided be a good balance between studying and a great social life. The city itself is wonderful. Quite a few things to do even if youre a broke student!
I really like the university of Portsmouth. It is a really compact city, near at the seaside and it had a high potential.
Good uni but very poor response to COVID
Fantastic, it was a great uni which included a year abroad in Beijing!
Student services, lecturers and welfare have all been so supportive and welcoming during my first year. I love it here so much and couldn't imagine studying somewhere else.
The student run clubs and societies are amazing and have a close sense of community.
Great uni, good facilities, supportive teachers
The uni was brilliant in my first year with so much available support and so many resources however they shut the student union bar in my second year and we didn’t really hear much from the union after that so it seemed a bit pointless. Plus we for some reason voted to leave NUS but the uni itself is good
Good uni and loved my experience there! Going back to do masters!
Great student morale and decent teaching facilities
I had the most amazing time here! From the teaching to the people I met it was great. A brilliant and compact city that was pretty economical to live in as a student which was great. Lots of great places to eat and drink and the quality of the student houses I found really decent.
Currently having a great time at the University with no complaints and would recommend to many people.
Im currently a second year student going into my year abroad at the University of Portsmouth, I could not be happier with the location of the uni. I could not thank my personal tutor enough for what she has done to help me, especially regarding changes I’ve had to make to my uni degree due to Covid-19.
Enhanced me as a person socially and academically!
Portsmouth is a lovely place. So peaceful and lively at the same time. University is great!
The city and campus is all in one, which means it’s easy to walk around inbetween classes to get food or meet up with friends. Housing is usually nearby with relatively cheaper prices too!
It’s amazing good services, lectures and buildings. halls are great too
I went to the University of Portsmouth for 3 years. It was the best experience I have ever had. From the campus, having so many facilities and opportunities to the societies which take you above and beyond new skills.
Great uni, good nightlife, mates for life and I’m only in first year. They could have been slightly better during the covid-19 pandemic but it’s not the worse.
If you wanna pursue you Master’s or Doctorate, UOP is the one of the best university in the United Kingdom. Teaching staff and the technical support is really helpful and amazing. All the university buildings have an awesome facilities.
I had a amazing time at Portsmouth University. My course was fantastic and the society scene is great, lots of opportunities to learn new skills and play sports! Also, very inclusive.
Great upcoming uni that’s got everything you need. Facilities, great teaching and good support.
Had the time of my life studying in this beautiful city
While I was studying there for 3 years I had to come to terms that because I’m from Slav country, I will always be not welcomed and mistreated by the students and staff. The teachers were biased and the students horrible.
Fantastic time. Would recommend to anyone.
Great uni, Careers service are excellent, shame they have got rid of the bar in the union
My experience at Portsmouth was pleasant. The university has supported students by ensuring the latest technology is available to utilise and the employment services the university offers is exactly what you need to prepare yourself for the working world.
This city based university is easy to get around, includes well kept lecture halls and seminar rooms, enthusiastic lecturers and a support system to help those who find the transition to university difficult. My advice is to make the most of any opportunity that comes your way.
Although most of the facilities are ok, the staff do not care about their students wellbeing. Nights out are fun but there are no safety precautions to protect the vulnerable. Student wellbeing is a great service but not widely acknowledged. The Careers service are ok, but not great at helping. To be honest I would not recommend
I wasn’t going to go to uni until I found portsmouth- my mental health has developed so much for the better and the support is excellent
Best University Best Faculty Very Friendly and Helpful Environment One of the finest city with lots of place to do shopping and have fun. It’s near to London so it’s really good for all the students to visit London anytime.
The campus is very spread out which means you might be late to some of your classes if you don’t leave early. There are a lot of societies but mainly sport societies which you have to pay for on an annual basis. I wish there were more unconventional/niche societies. The staff is very supportive however and the careers department can be used up to 5 years after you leave.
I loved Portsmouth Uni, all my lectures were so friendly and more than happy to help and most cases over and beyond what they are required to do.
Worst experience of my life. The lecturers don’t care about you. It’s so expensive way too expensive for a student and it definitely wasn’t the university to go to. No matter what you’re going through they don’t care about you they don’t give you any kind of support with essays and when I decided to leave because of mental health they weren’t like let me see how we can help they simply said okay whatever. And then made it extremely hard for another university to accept me by giving them false information about my grades. Don’t go here
Couldn’t have chosen a better uni
I feel so at home and comfortable learning here. The faculty, campus, course and my peers are wonderful and Portsmouth is absolutely the best place to learn happily.
Was a bit unsure about going here as it’s not one of those unis everyone talks about and it’s not a Russel group, but it’s been amazing! Such a nice location, amazing course and lovely people!
City campus with very outdated buildings and limited but improving academic facilities.
I love it here, wish that we still had the union pub but there’s plenty of other pubs in portsmouth Lecturers are beyond dedicated
Portsmouth University has brilliant facilities and the lecturers are excellent at explaining all details. There is a lot of support for students that are both high and low achievers. The standout department is the careers service, who are absolutely outstanding and go above and beyond to ensure that students who are seeking graduate roles are supported on their career journey. The societies are not bad - as a student living at home they were a good way to meet friends. There was not much social support for students living at home and thus it was quite hard at times to feel involved in the social aspect of University life.
Amazing first 3 years of uni, in my fourth year they got rid of the Union so it went downhill
Educationally I guess it's ok, night-life is great. Halls are okayish
The best experience I’ve ever had, made alot of memories that i will treasure forever.
Perfect balance between city and campus living. Tutors are amazing and supportive, easy to get hold of. Huge range of clubs and societies. The vice-chancellor has some weird views (eg budget cuts but gets a pay rise??) but the staff does the best they can in the situation. Portsmouth is a great city too.
Fantastic University on the south coast
Upon moving to Portsmouth I became extremely homesick, but this soon dissipated as I got into swing of the wonderful university life at Portsmouth! There are numerous factors I love about the university, including but not limited to the constant access to library and therefore course materials, the way the campus is embedded in the city and I’ve encountered lecturers who care more about mental health and grades which appears very rare!
Awful experience. I don’t recommend it at all.
I love it here, best decision I have made is coming to Portsmouth university.
For my course especially the teaching is not what I’d expect from a university level institution. No structure to the course at all and lecturers don’t know how to answer questions students bring up when they should know. Good campus and facilities however the teaching brings the university down. I’ve seen personally first hand international students leave the country entirely and restart at different universities back in their home country because the teaching ethic is appalling
Amazing faculties, great place for students to live.
Some of the best pastoral care, staff are lovely and understanding, work is challenging and interesting and overall an amazing experience
Marine biology student finished with a 2:1 and loved my 3 years at Portsmouth. The club's are fantastic, especially the rugby society. Teaching staff always helpful and good in lectures
It is a really good uni. I liked it a lot
Have had a brilliant 2 years here, great support and an amazing place to live. So sad to leave!!
I had great experience in my undergrad, but very poor support during my postgrad studies. Would not recommend completing master's there.
Very efficient methods applied in teaching. Skillful professionals that enhanced my experience.
Facilities are great. You get all kinds of great support, if you ask for it! Portsmouth is very easy to navigate. There are lots of opportunities to improve your employability and other skills. Events are great. Student voice matters to UoP. Student engagement could be better. Halls of residence are great. Many opportunities if only you take them! Great experience so far, in my 2nd year.
The uni of portsmouth really helps their students
this has to be the worst uni I ever been to teachers are no help, the assignment make no sense at all and they expect it to be done perfect yet they don't help at all
Everyone was helpful and I had no problem with it. We always had someone to talk to when we needed to. The lecturers felt like they were there in order to support you and work with you not against you, if you chose so to look for help.
Uni is great housing company is bad
Everything is very good apart from the university student union becoming closed at the beginning of this year
100% recommend Portsmouth uni, had the best time here
The university of Portsmouth is a really nice university, it is a city campus, as all the universities it has international students and there are many courses which you can chose.
Good uni. Lots to do. Cheap city (if you go to the right places). Most socities are really good but you have to really get involved. I would recommend looking into them before uni starts, allowing time to save for training or trips if you need to. Really really look into housing and look at reviews for them before picking your housing. You honestly get what you pay for. If you really wanna know what uni life is like, follow the student instagram page for portsmout @Spottedpompey or @pompfessions Gives you a good idea what porstmout is like, social side. Education wise, its pretty good. Lecturers are pretty awesome.
I loved my time at Portsmouth! The opportunities are endless and there’s always someone who can help.
The university is good, unfortunately they've destroyed the park outside the library to build another sports hall
The university is good, however some of the lecturers are not. Left the uni after being low key bullied by the head of the course for almost a year. Didn't like that I got his favorite student pregnant
I love portsmouth uni even though it's a city uni you can literally walk everywhere, no need to fork out for public transport. The uni is good although we recently lost the bar in our students union so it's not used that much.
