Honestly the accommodation is great! I was lucky to get really nice flatmates but from what I’ve heard everyone respects each other and helps each other out. We were warned about the construction and honestly it’s not so bad. Hear a drill now and then but apart from that it’s quiet. The sky lounge is great and a great place to hang out with friends and meet new people.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I was honestly scared to live in student accommodation but Greetham caught my eye. I was lucky to have gotten a room here and honestly, I quite like my little space. The room is cosy, well lit and has lots of storage. The shared facilities are up to par as well. I enjoy cooking in the kitchen and interacting with my flatmates. The study room and sky lounge are comfortable and great places to sit and relax or study. The location is great too! There are convenience stores near me and it's a short walk to the commercial road and the shopping centres. I can easily grab a bite to eat or simply take a stroll and enjoy what the city offers. Overall an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend this accommodation to others.
We are so pleased that you have settled in well and are enjoying independent living in Greetham Street! Thank you for the feedback :)

We are so pleased you have enjoyed living with us and are getting on well with your new flatmates. Thanks for your review :)
It’s an okay accommodation, it would be great to see more facilities like a gym or a better social space. Renovating the study room was a good idea too.
Thank you for your review- we are glad you enjoy the revamped study room! Please let us know your suggestions for any improvements we can make on our common room- we are always working to improve communal areas where we can :)
For 11k a year, you get to hear ear splitting drilling noises before 9am. Even during Fresher's week. Oh, and the price of the rent inflates if you pay within a certain time, they care more about that than the students actually in the building.
We're sorry to hear you have been experiecing issues with noise in your flat and haven't had a great experience so far. We'd like to discuss this further with you, if you could contact us at greethamstreetreception@unitestudents.com we can get in touch. Thank you :)
Staff are really great and helpful! Especially Tom P and B. The property is well managed and taken care of.
Thank you for your kind review- we are glad you've had a great time and enjoyed living in Greetham Street! We will pass the message onto both of the Toms :)
The life in Greetham Street is good. Very friendly reception team, especially Aivars

Very nice accomodation. Super helpful receptionist staff Aivars and Tom have been especially helpful.

My kitchen is a funky, we've had broken hobs and ovens and we have a Leaky sink. Besides the leaky sink the response has been fast.
Thank you for giving us feedback. We are pleased to have fast responses but of course want to ensure all issues are resolved for you, so please could you contact the reception so we can resolve these issues for you if you are still experiencing them.
I made a lot of new. friends due to the nice setup of the common room
That is wonderful to hear, we are pleased you have made new friends :)
The rooms are good, bathrooms are good, common room is good but could do with more social spaces
Thank you for your review! We are pleased you like your room. Chaucer House has three large communal spaces inlcuding a common room, study room and games area in the reception, as well as a gym! If you are unfamiliar with any of these areas please speak to your reception team. Likewise, if you have any suggestions for better ways to utilise the social spaces, such as events etc. please do let me know :)

Been a good place to live and meet others, I'm happy to have lived here. I do recommend others stay here and it is worth what you pay for. The only downside is the maintenance and random fire alarms going off for no fires at all. The reception team is always friendly and up to talk, like Iwoz, Cam, Molly, Tom, Maria
Thank you for your review- we will be sure to pass the kind message onto the dream Greetham Street team! We try to make our properties as safe and secure as possible and we appreciate this can sometimes be inconvenient but ultimately with weekly fire alarm tests and servicing, you are in the safest property :)
Really great and helpful customer service. Friendly staff (Cam) invited me to fill out the review :)
We are pleased you have had a great experience and helpful customer service- we will be sure to pass the message on to Cam!
The lifts break way too often, half the washing machines in the one laundry room of the building don’t even connect to the app so don’t work, the dryers often leave clothes damp after use and maintenance requests are slow to be completed. Coming into the flat, the flat wasn’t cleaned, bins were left full, room wasn’t cleaned, broken stove top, unreliable oven, drippy tap, missing fire blanket, vacuum cleaner that makes the whole room stink that they still won’t replace, and replacement stove top remained in our flat for about a month because they forgot to put it on and marked the maintenance request as complete. Storage is also very limited. Staff at reception is amazing, security is alright, post being delivered and collected is great, close to fast food places, shops, clubs and pubs, about 15min walk from furthest uni buildings. Would recommend for first years, nothing more, price is too high for prolonged stay, but great for meeting new people quickly.
We are really sorry to hear that you experience with us so far has not been up to scratch! It would be great if you could come down to the desk to discuss this complaint with us, as we'd love to know what we can do to make your stay better! Thank you for leaving your review!
Good, always clean but is a pain when the lifts don’t work lol
We are pleased to hear your experience living with us so far has been good! We are really sorry about the lift issues- we always aim to get these rectified within time :)
I like that there were multiple events organised by the management team. They were also very friendly always.
We are so pleased you have been enjoying the events- plenty more where that came from, to come! Thanks for your review and we are so pleased you are having a great student experience!
Great experience! Love the location!
We are so pleased you love the location and are having a great experience living with us, and continue to do so :) Thank you!
I was assisted by Aivars to confirm if my rent payment went through. He was so help and quick to respond
We will be sure to pass the kind words on to Aivars! Thanks for your review!
I really like living at Greethamstreet. It’s a bit pricey but the location as well as the rooms are great compared to some of the other halls in Portsmouth. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and supportive and will go out of their way to help.
Thank you for your kind words! We will be sure to pass the message on to Team Greetham!
Bobby (Security) has been exceptional as a member of staff. He is extremely helpful with any issues we've had and helped in times of need. Friendly and made my experience here at Greetham a far more enjoyable experience.
This is so kind and thank you for your kind words about Bobby! We will pass the kind words on, I am sure he will be pleased!
Bit expensive for what it is and the kitchens are too small for the number of people in each flat. Overall good accommodation, great wifi and good communal spaces
We are sorry to hear you think the kitchens are too small- our kitchen sizes do vary compared on the size of the flat. Overall we are glad you have had a good experience staying with us here and the other services are good :) Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to improve your stay by coming to speak to us at the reception
There are many things I like about living at Greetham street but the support we get as students Is probably the best thing about it with one individual in particular standing out from the rest. Bobby from Greetham Street is one of the nicest people I know. He is extremely helpful and always there when you’re having a rough night. Every student I’ve spoken to have said that anytime they’re having issues, they go to Bobby for a chat and feel so much better for it. Everyone needs to have someone like Bobby there for them and I believe we as a building are grateful to already have him.
This is a lovely review- thank you for taking the time to to write this review! We are so pleased you feel supported living here and that Bobby has been able to support you whilst living here. We will be sure to pass the kind words on to him :)
Kris is very helpful and kind, As well as the rest of the team. They are always available to meet any needs.
We are so pleased you have had a good experience and will be sure to pass this on to the Greetham Street team, especially Kris!
It's a great place to live and I'm planning on living here in my second year. I spend a lot of late nights up studying and but the night staff are always there to talk to while I have a break especially Bobby Ullah who I know I can go to with any issues I have either with others in the building or mental health issues
This is music to our ears! We are so glad you want to stay with us again for next year! We will also pass the kind words onto Bobby :)
Bobby exceptionally helpful and makes me feel very safe. The night staff are really well managed and led
Thank you for your review! This is great feedback and we are glad our team make you feel safe :) We will pass the message onto Bobby!
The move in was great, and the current living status has been as great, have had a few unchecked issues in the kitchen and remaining issues. But no complaints.
Great to hear the move in process was great for you and you are enjoying living with us at Greetham Street! Please come down to speak a member of the team at reception if you would like to discuss any oustanding issues in your flat- we are more than happy to help :) Thanks for your review and we hope you continue to enjoy your experience living with us here at Greetham Street!

I really hated Greetham St, and I think most students did. It was so cheaply made. The walls were thin as cardboard, and you had to share with around 9 other people, which was a nightmare when others were having parties in the kitchen while you had to get up for a 9am. My room wasn't cosy in the slightest. Everything was made from cheap plastic. I'd wake up cold some nights, because the heating would go off, and wasn't close enought to my bed to turn back on. I had condensation on my windows, and a pool of water in the corner, with mould growing under the desk that I never used because it was so uncomfortable. No I shouldn't need to open a window to treat this issue. This is an issue of build. No student ought to experience that. Other places were slightly better, like James Watson, as the rooms were cosier, and had a decent quality desk for example. Though they only had single beds, and the bathroom was a wetroom, which is kind of gross. Their kitchens seemed slightly worse than ours.
living there last year during covid was a bit annoying but still was able to have a good social life
We are sorry to hear that your experience wasn't as social due to Covid-19, but it's great to hear you were able to make the most of it regardless! At Unite Students we will always promote and ensure our students have the opportunity to a good social life with a calander of events throughout the year :)
This is a terrible accommodation with rude staff and improper property management. The lack of safety and treatment of students is appalling. I would never want anyone I care about to stay here and I would never stay here again. This year was just not the best experience.
Clean (upon arrival), good kitchen facilities and security team.
The building is right in between the high street and the road with all of the uni buildings on it making it perfectly located for everything. You can also get Uber eats and deliveroo to the building. However, I was in a flat of 10 in my first year and while living there I was attacked, along with a range of other issues such as vandalism and stealing in our flat. Management didn’t care at all, and when one flat caught fire they fined the people living there and merely told us to check our toasters. This building has the same cladding as grenfell and so the fire was extremely concerning. There is no parking and this building is more expensive than others in the area who provide similar amenities. One building built nearby has restaurant facilities and a gym for £10 more a week so is much better value for money. Also this building heated up horrifically so in the winter you’d be sweating and in the summer you’d be hanging out of the window to try to get some fresh air.
I really enjoyed my year in Greetham street as a first year in 2018-2019 and as it was such a big accommodation there were so many people to meet and become friends with, even if you just see eachother in the lift everyday!
In first year halls I met my best friends and was very happy with my accommodation
Way overpriced for a room I could touch either side of if I held my arms out. Flats of 9 people with a kitchen that doesn't feel big enough.
My 10 person flat was great and forced me to make amazing, close friends
Best Student Accomadtion in portsmouth. Staff are actually really nice. Rooms are nice but it gets messy quickly. Bathroom is small but okay. Socially the run events in the common room and your flatmates but depends on what you want. Laundry is annoying at the start but easy afterwards. Generally a nice place but you'll thank me for this bring a heater and fan
It was very good place to live
Do not live here, super expensive for bugger all, trust me live in a house
Not here this year but was last year, and it was fantastic. Easily resolved maintainence issues, perfect bedroom and kitchen sizes.
The perfect place to stay in your first year, just be sure to keep your uni home clean and livable
Great location and a nice place to live
A bit grubby but good location
Very expensive for a tiny bedroom and tiny kitchen. I had 8 other people in my flat and we could hardly all fit in the kitchen at once. Location is quite good but the only supermarkets nearby is co-op and Tesco’s and they’re both expensive especially for poor students. Library is a long walk away which is annoying. Management don’t do much about any issues. It’s sociable as the halls is massive but seems to be a lot of crime in the area and people hanging around outside
