University of Sheffield
Sheffield Hallam University
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
there is very nice staff and very nice location
perfect location, perfect reception, perfect management. I feel safe and happy, but the room’s desk is a little bit small and I think the condition could be better.
The location is good, near the Diamond (library) and west street (walking to tesco just take you 2 mins) Also, the staffs are super friendly and nice, they are happy to help you solve any kinds of problems. Especially,George who works in the reception, he is very enthusiastic and always cares about your life or studies. Last but not least, the maintenance, Sean, is the best maintenance man I have never seem. He always hums a song and wears a big smile on his face and being good at repairing everything! After all, I recommend students who studying in UoS to live in IQ Steel. If they provide a short-term living, that will be perfect!
Halls were great first year. Maintenance was slow but did the job very well
Worst IQ Accommodation that I've lived in. There is basically no hot water in the showers. Heater will run for 2 hours max. They had to give me a separate heater. The internet is adequate but not fast. You can only use the closet only with hangers, which I find to be idiotic as students usually do not wear business attire. Walls are really thin so you can hear your neighbours. There is only 1 fridge for 5 people per flat. They do not provide vacuum cleaners, toasters nor a kettle as do other accommodations like Sheffield 3, Endcliffe Village or Cornerhouse do. They put me in a room for disabled people without telling me. Even if I was disabled I would find the services to be mitigating my experience. e.g. Only way to reach my flat is by the stairs, the electric door that opens by itself usually closes when I want it open and opens when I want it to close. The security is appalling. Most of the time, the security is away from their post.
Not really a good place to stay. Many problems can not solve in 4 months and they did not compensate students.
