One of the nicest university accommodations I’ve seen, common areas are cleaned regularly and any issues get sorted quickly. The accommodation is quite far from the main campus but there’s a bus every 10 minutes so you can still get there easily.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The kitchens and bedrooms are spacious, maintenance are really helpful and the surrounding area is nice (but rather far from the university). However, there are much cheaper alternatives close by.
Very nice rooms and nice area, the ridge is especially nice. However fairly far from uni.
Good accommodation, really big kitchen space with a large sofa compared to other accommodations, cleaners come every 2 weeks for the kitchens. The Wimberry block is right next to the main road so can get very noisy and hard to sleep in the morning with cars or when the bin lorry’s come. Accommodation is in a really nice area but quite a long walk from uni and the city centre but there are very regular buses. Internet connection is very unreliable.
Hello and thank you for your review of our Wimberry accommodation, we are very grateful. All communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks and students know when they are coming so can clear kitchen services etc. They don't clean bedrooms though but we do provide cleaning equipment in all accommodation. Fulwood Rd can be a bit noisy at peak times as it's close to a school but one advantage is you are close to the 120 bus which runs from 6am - midmight Monday to Friday. It goes past the main campus to the bus and train stations and beyond !. We can't really do anything about the bin lorries but hopefully this will only be once a week !. It's about 25 minutes walk to main campus along well lit, main roads. This is must closer than many universities. Sorry to hear the WiFi was an issue with thousands of students around it a service in high demand. Many students will use a ethernet cable instead. Best wishes, Sharon
good experience with my flatmates. quite noisy with flats above and below and with room being next to the road. work is often done early in the morning which can be disruptive
Hello and thank you for your review of Wimberry, we are very grateful. It's great to read you had a great time with your flatmates. There is always something going on and Residence Life put on loads of events and many of these are free to attend. Fulwood Rd can be quite busy as it's near a school but at least they are not there at the weekend !. The plus side is that you are close to the 120 bus route that runs every few minutes. It goes past the main university campus to the bus and train stations and beyond. It is student accommodation and so sometimes things can be a bit lively but if anything is getting out of hand we have security on hand 24/7. If we can warn students of any maintenance work that is planned we will and obviously it's quite a task to keep such a big site to the high standard we have. Best wishes, Sharon
Wifi often disconnects and is slow. Ranmoor needs a student bar like the edge and possibly a shop.
Hello and thank you for your your lovely review, we are very grateful. I am sorry to hear you have issues with the WiFi. With close to 6,000 students on site it's a service in high demand. Soem students use a ethernet cable which seems to help. While it would be great to have a bar and shop on the Ranmoor side it's not really cost effective as Broomhill is just a short walk away and there are supermarkets, bars, cafes and loads of charity shops here. There are 2 chemists and a post office too. Plus if we opened another bar the Edge bar would not be as busy as it is and not have the great atmoshere it has !. Best wishes, Sharon
Eduroam is not great and is the only real issue i can think off. Everything else is stellar and I've not had an issue
Hello and thank you for your your lovely review, we are very grateful. It's great to read you have been happy with your accommodation. Sorry to hear you have had issues with the WiFi. With thousands of students in halls it's a service high in demand !. Some students use an ethernet cable which seems to help. Best wishes, Sharon
Good location and clustered around useful facilities in the Ridge. Internet slow and unreliable.
Hello and thank you for your your lovely review, we are very grateful. It's great to read you have been happy with your accommodation. Residence Life hold loads of events during the year and many of these are free to attend. All bills are included in the rent and this even includes insurance and laundry !. Sorry to hear about your issues with the WiFi. Any maintenance issues shoudl be reported to the Customer Services tea, acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk Best wishes, Sharon
Had an amazing time in Wimberry as a student in 2024/25. Met some great people and always felt safe and comfortable in my apartment

Would recommend for first year students. You get to meet lots of people

wifi is a bit iffy occasionally, ranmoor in general is a bit quieter which is nice (and no hill), a little on the expensive site but nothing beats the 1st year experience.
Hello and thank you for your your lovely review on Wimberry, we are very grateful. It's great to read you have been happy with your accommodation. It is a great introduction to university life. Hello and thank you for your review of Wimberry, we are very grateful. It's lovely to hear such positive comments :) The Customer Services team are always happy to help with any maintenance issues acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk The main campus is about a 25 minute walk along well lit, main roads. This is quite close in comparision to many other universities. As you say there is always the 120 bus and this not only goes to the main campus but to the train, bus station and beyond. Wimberry is good and social. The kitchens are modern and rooms are nice. However there is a lot less going on than in Endcliffe.
We're so glad to hear you've enjoyed your time in Wimberry! There are always residence life events happening across the accommodation sites, and every year a different spot is livelier than others, we can never be sure since we always have thousands of new students joining us each September. Thankfully, the Endcliffe site is only a short walk away from Ranmoor, so the facilities there are easily accessible! Many thanks, Oaklyn
Ideally good spacious rooms and kitchen, quieter than Endcliff campus but there is still lots of people to meet and parties. Good maintenance who respond really quickly.
Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear you've had a great time. We never know where the liveliest spots will be every year as there's always thousands of new students who join us across the accommodation sites, and it's different every time! We're glad all your maintenance requests have been dealt with in a timely manner too. Many thanks, Oaklyn
approx. £170 ppw for an ensuite room (as of 2024) is ok, However, accommodation for 2nd and 3rd yr do get significantly cheaper. The main benefit of living in Wimberry is the newer kitchens, which when compared to other building is newer and larger. All buildings in Ranmoor have quick response time from maintenance. Ranmoor is is a smaller complex of apartments compared to Endcliffe. Ranmoor is approx. about a 20 ish minute walk to the Student Union with other shops and supermarkets only about 5-10 min walk.
Thank you for your review! We're welcoming students back for their second and third years with an offer of frozen rent rates, meaning next year, fees for our returning students will be locked at the 2024/25 prices (alongside some other amazing offers)! The returner deal can be viewed here; https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/returners/rebook202425We're so glad to hear you enjoyed Wimberry and the convenient location to the University and amenities nearby. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay! Many thanks, Oaklyn
Love it here! Rooms have good space and very wide desk for studying.
Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your room in Wimberry! Many thanks, Oaklyn
Pretty decent as far as uni accom goes, but there are a few issues. The flat itself wasn't in great condition when we first moved in, but maintenance are very quick when it comes to dealing with any issues. It's a bit far from uni, but fairly close to shops and any necessities. The Ridge isn't the best social space, but the gym is a good amenity that almost makes up for it.
Thank you for your review! We're sorry to hear you had some issues with the flat, but glad to hear they were resolved swiftly. You can always report maintenance issues with customer services (acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk) who will endeavour to get them sorted as soon as they can. Wimberry is a walkable distance from the heart of the campus as you can make it there in around 25 minutes, but there are also plenty of bus routes outside of Ranmoor you can get student priced tickets with too! Thank you for your feedback about the Ridge - we're glad to hear you enjoyed the gym facilities! Many thanks, Oaklyn
Closest building to uni and shops. Well maintained. Fairly quiet
Hello and thank you for your review of Wimberry, we really appreciate it. It's good to read your positive comments. Best wishes, Sharon
While it is on the more expensive side for Sheffield, the accommodation is very spacious, with a large desk and windows. Although it is a little far from the university, the area feels very safe when walking back late at night, and there are plenty of shops only a 10-minute walk.
Hello and thank you for your review of our Wimberry accommodation, we are very grateful. Once you have signed up for your accommodation you can be safe in the knowledge that you will have no additional costs as all bills are included. This includes insurance and laundry. The main campus is around a 25 minute walk but as you have said, it's along main, well lit roads. This is quite a short commute compared to many universities. The Broomhill shopping area is a great facility to have. There are supermarkets, cafes, bars and loads of charity shops. There are 2 chemists, a post office and hairdressers/barbers so you can get almost everything you need but there is a village store on campus if you forget anything. Best wishes, Sharon
Good sized rooms and well laid out. Nice kitchen. maintenance issues always get resolved quickly. not much social experience at the ridge. tend go to the edge more often. wifi could definitely be better as it often cuts out. the cleaning on tuesdays is never very deep.
Hello and thank you for your review, we really appreciate it. I am glad to hear you are happy with your accommodation. Residence Life events are held at both The Ridge and The Edge (The Hub) and they are only a few minutes apart. Both are great areas to get together and there is The Green Room to book in The Hub where you can get togther with friends to watch a film, play a game or just have a chat. If you are having issues with the WiFi then my colleagues in the IT department are on hand to help and you can report any maintenance/cleaning issues to the Customer Services team, acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. Best wishes, Sharon
Ranmoor is known for being a little quieter, and for good reason. It's not necessarily a bad thing though. The Ridge is pretty dead, though I'm not sure the Edge in Endcliffe is much better. Uni halls are typically quite expensive, I'm currently in an en-suite room and it has the necessities, though the shower is more of a wet room with a drain in the floor and a standard curtain. The furnishings in the bedroom are quite office-like, and my pin-board is rock solid so I'm not actually able to push pins in. The cleaners come regularly to clean communal areas like kitchens and hallways, though I'm not sure they hoover. The wifi is quite temperamental, as whenever I turn my phone off it gets disconnected from the wifi so I have to either keep my data on constantly or reconnect every time I turn my phone back on in order to receive notifications. Ranmoor and Endcliffe are 20-30 mins from most uni buildings if you walk, but there are regular buses with multiple stops near the accommodation.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback about your experience at Ranmoor. We understand that Ranmoor can be quieter, and we're glad to hear that you don't necessarily see this as a negative. It’s great to know you’re finding the essentials in your en-suite room. If you do experience an maintenance issues within your room you can fill out the maintenance request form on the Accommodation Portal. Regarding the cleaning service, we strive to ensure communal spaces are kept clean, and we’ll certainly look into the hoovering of these areas to make sure the service meets your expectations. We’re sorry to hear about the Wi-Fi issue you’ve been experiencing. If you haven't already, we recommend reaching out to Customer Services for assistance, as they may be able to help resolve the connectivity problems you're facing and provide you with an ethernet cable. Lastly, we’re pleased that you find the transport options convenient, and hope the regular buses help make getting to campus easier. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. Sophie :)
Everything I have needed has been easy to access and questions have been answered quickly.

Don't let's others tell you that ranmoor is boring. The kitchens are bigger and not only do you go out the days you feel like sleeping you aren't wokn up bu noise

If there’s anything else you need or any questions you have, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. Best wishes, Lucy
Best accommodation in my opinion
Met some great friends, almost luxurious accommodation for students
Looove being in Ranmoor - it’s known as the quiet site which I guess it is but I like it that way. It’s quiet enough that you can sleep but there’s still always something going on if you fancy it. It’s a bit of a trek from uni but I guess it means you get a good step count everyday! There’s also a free gym and printing facilities at the ridge which is helpful. Not really had any issues in the flat, a couple of maintenance problems which were sorted fairly quickly. Had a bit of an issue with cleaners using our things and not cleaning them after (quite ironic really) but we reported it and the issue was dealt with really well. We have Residence Life mentors who visit weekly, although they can be annoying it’s nice to know that if you disappeared someone would realise hahaha
Bit far away from the uni, but close to the other freshers and the flats are decent for student accommodation
A little far from uni, but lovely place to live. Wifi and phone signal sometimes patchy.
Lovely bedrooms- more space than I expected. Bathroom pretty decent, and everything works and is clean. Communal areas in larger flats are really nice, with just enough storage and fridge/freezer space. Mentor is a legend- have had lots of banter :) overall very nice, if a little expensive
Near endcliffe - not as social - small social space
It's same sex and not very big but besides that sure
Cleaners are lovely. The surroundings are beautiful. I love the ridge and the friendship tree. Everyone is up for a good time and there's always a party going on somewhere.
Sort of expensive compared to other units but really loved it as it's quite new so nothing is broken in the rooms or kitchen. The rooms have a great layout with a huge deal and nice pin board. The ensuits are like a big wet room so are easy to clean. Really enjoyed my time there
Great for first year, 25 minutes walk from uni, 10 minutes from lots of shops. Does tend to get noisy late on at night, but this comes with the uni experience. The ridge bar is fantastic with cheap food, pool table, darts and has something different on every night (quiz, bingo, movies, football, etc). Lots of students to make friends with, rooms are decent sizes and bathrooms are small but everything is there what you need.
