All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Spacious rooms with new bathrooms and all problems resolved in less than a week. A large kitchen that allows us to spend time together and also be able to cook even if we have the meal plan. Rooms also very bright which is a big strong point.

The room is good and spacious and the sarvice is quick if anything goes wrong in the room. This accommodation is best if you like a silent space to work and study.

Overall, my time at D.C. was pretty decent, but a couple of things could defo be improved. First off, they should change the mattresses at least twice a year – that'd make a big difference. Also, the windows could do with regular cleaning from the outside 'cause spiders were building webs and sneaking into the room, which was proper annoying. I'm not living there anymore, but thought it was worth dropping this feedback for future students.

Dunsden is a private environment for people that value their personal space, the rooms are en suite, you don't have much interaction with other occupants except on rare cases where you bump into others in the kitchen because dunsden is a catered hostel with platinum plan, so your feeding plan is catered for morning, after and evenings. Dunsden is a nice environment to read and excel in your academic pursuit.

Was very good for students. Ensuites perfect for those who dont want to share bathrooms

The hall itself is very nice because it's super cheap for an en-suite room, but the meal plan that comes with it is not good at all. The kitchen is tiny for 12 people so I understand why there has to be a meal plan but most of my flatmates just bought their own food anyway on top of being forced to pay for the meal plan because it was in our contract.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we are really pleased to hear you enjoyed Dunsden Crescent. Dunsden was nice even though it was during lockdown. I managed to connect with some people and we spent our time together, the accolade toon is nice and the food plan is really good!
Clearly a good investment as the rent includes a meal plan that helped me focus on my studies!
It was nice but we had trees in front of my window which meant my room was permanently dark lowering my mood a lot when I got back from a club, society or just nice time with friends. Also had to do a lot of my studying in the library as I couldn’t see my work.
Bathrooms and Toilets are very old and its not worth the money, dunsden hall needs to be renovated
Very good location, quiet, suitable for anti-social students
Great halls - I met some amazing people!
