It was an excellent experience to stay at St. George's hall. Being an international student, I always feared about my accommodation and stay before coming to uk. But this place has proved me wrong in every way possible. It has excellent management skills, supportive people, great social space and most importantly it's position is literally the opposite to University! I will be always grateful to my first ever "home", St. George's hall in uk. Thanks for giving me all the comfort I needed in a totally new country!!

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

St.. George’s Hall is a very organised accommodation and the university is great at immediately fixing any issues. The cleaning service is also super helpful and something I didn’t experience at my previous accommodation at Univeristy of Birmingham. I feel like the university really cares about my safety and I always feel at peace when I stay here.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
I paid 14k for a studio, when I moved in they didn't have any utilities, no vacuum, toaster, bins etc took weeks to get them here. I don't have windows I have 2 doors at the back of my accommodation but they don't shut properly and aren't water tight. They refuse to turn the heating on til October and a part of my roof fell down from damp - no joke.

Understandable with inflation but paying nearly 8 thousand for a tiny room and a prison cell bathroom sucks, the tiles are mouldy and I have one little metal shelf. The shower curtain touches the toilet and the floor floods.

We appreciate your understanding regarding pricing as we continuously review our offering to ensure they provide value for money, offering a variety of room types to suit different budgets. St George's Hall is a good place for the money you pay for it. The rooms are decent and the kitchens are decent. Its just the toilets that have some issues like the toilets dont flush efficently.

I was staying in a studio which is totally worth it. I fully enjoyed every minute in it with my kitchen my personal room. I love that place so much that I could not believe everything ended sooner than I thought. Thank you for having me.
Hi, Thank you so much for your feedback, we really apperciate it here at Reading! We're really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
I really liked how efficient the maintenance/security team was whenever there was an issue. My mattress was in poor quality and they gave me a new one! I joined the hall mid-year so was the youngest and didn't make friends with most flatmates. My cooker was an old electric one that was extremely slow but for most foods eventually got the job done. There was one experience with the security staff that made me uncomfortable by asking me a lot of personal questions when I got locked out of my room. Other than that, this hall was an average hall, not the most modern in Reading accomodation. In my opinion and after visiting a friends flat, Benyon is the most value for money accomodation, its cheaper than St georges but newer and has a better common room/ amenities. However, my experience was definitely not the horror stories you see on social media. my experience matches the individual star ratings I gave.
Hi, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review and feedback. We're pleased to hear that you've had a positive experience and that you found our maintenance and security teams to be efficient and responsive, especially in replacing your mattress. We appreciate your feedback regarding your experience with the cooker and we are sorry to hear that you had an uncomfortable interaction with security. We do encourage residents to report all issues via the dedicated Home at Halls app or the 24/7 Halls Hotline so that our team can rectify any issues as soon as possible. Very good value for money and in a decent location, would say it is well worth the money you spend.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad you had a great experience living at Reading! Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
I believe st george’s in terms of being one the cheapest en suite options was very good / facilities and study room was nice - felt a tad isolated but i like that. compared to other halls it was definitely the smallest in terms of having nothing near it so facilities were usually lacking but i didn’t mind. great outdoor space, great cleaners, great security. lovely staff. rooms were nice. do wish that the kitchen was a tad more modern and space could have been used more effectively. showers are nice and warm never had an issue with water temperature or pressure. not to mention when i had an issue with my room maintenance came round right away and problem was solved quickly.

Was a little unhappy that my block was the last block to be renovated, so we had a lower quality kitchen, appliances and rooms, but the experience was still amazing!

Good services, but maintenence needs more work. As a repeat student, I can feel that only some paint jobs have been done. In some small areas, molds have been found as well.

So far the experience has been good, I’ve meet people in my corridor and the facilities are very up to standard

Excellent value for the price. I had an ensuite room in Elmhurst wing, although the furniture is a bit old, the bathroom was absolutely amazing, especially for a student accommodation. The kitchen was spacious, with beautiful new furniture and appliances. The cleaners would come every week so it was never really messy. Lots of social events took place either in our common room, or of nearby halls so it was hard to be bored there. The only disadvantage is that it's a bit far from campus, but only relatively, it's a 10-20 min walk depending on your pace and the route you're taking.

St George's rooms are spacious, with great access to local services. Laundry services on-site, cleaners come regularly, and the shared spaces are nice.

St. Georges Hall Reading, has best connectivity to town and nearby grocery stores and bus stops. Along with most affordable rooms among the university accommodation. Elevators can be upgraded as reaching even the 3rd floor takes considerable time. Cleaning staff were very friendly.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Clean and safe. Could do with more in-halls social events.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! We are glad you enjoyed your time at Reading and found the accommodation clean and safe. Home@Halls put on regular free events to bring students together. Students living in halls can go to any of the Home@Halls events across campus. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
The location felt a little out of campus which meant it was quite an isolated spot. St George's doesn't have any neighbouring accommodations which made it a bit harder for meeting new people. However it was great as it was very close to thee sportspark and the Christchurch bus stop and not too far from campus compared to other accomodations. It always felt very safe as there seemed to always be security around which was nice and the facilities on site were good with having washing services super close. I was on ground floor and found it quite cold in the winter in my room and the kitchen. It was great to have an ensuite but the 'wetroom' style could sometimes be a bit tricky with the shower curtain.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback! We are very glad to hear you enjoyed being close to sports park and the bus stop as well as having a positive experience with the security team. There are JCRs and common rooms in all halls, to ensure socialising is not restricted to flats. Home@Halls also put on events in the common areas to bring students together and students living in halls are able to go to any Home@Halls events across campus to meet students living in different halls. Regarding your feedback on the heating - all rooms are heated to maintain an average of 20 degrees centigrade and a minimum of 18 degrees during the heating season (normally October – end of April). If students have concerns about the temperature in their hall, we encourage them to contact the 24/7 Halls Hotline. If you would like to discuss this further or provide more detailed feedback, please contact accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or phone 0118 200 5011. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
It’s a good distance from the University and close to bus stops and a few shops. The common room is a little outdated and could be better as well as the laundry room as there are only 5 washers and 6 dryers which is not enough for the 4 buildings
Hi, Thank you for providing feedback on your time at Reading. We make continual progress with improvements to halls and rooms, while balancing offering value for money. If you would like to discuss this further or provide more detailed feedback, please contact accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or phone 0118 200 5011. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
UPP staff who manage the halls were really good and kitchen was always great condition after they cleaned it. Everything was very accessible and overall great experience. Got locked out a few times (my fault!) and they were so fast at coming to help me open my door. Also security was really good had an issue with noise and they responded within half an hour. Honestly compliments to the staff they were so great and friendly. Rly good location near to uni but not on the actual site and only a less than 7 min walk to main area. Washing machines always good and let well updated with we’re services we’re on site. Can’t complain to be honest :) Parcel collection also was really easy.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
St. George’s Halls was an excellent choice for me as an international student with concerns for shared bathroom spaces. Having my own bathroom and cleaned area made my experience a lot better. Not only that, but as a sports participant, having sports park so close was extremely convenient for going to the gym and training on the pitch behind sports park.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
I enjoyed my time in halls and it felt like a nice community and everything was well organised and all the staff were brilliant
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Great experience! Really good accommodation but can get a bit loud at certain times.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we are very happy to hear you had a great experience living here. There will always be an element of noise associated with communal living, however we do have staff on-site 24/7 who will quickly respond to any noise complaints should they arrive. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Reasonable hall for the price. Didn't have too many issues in first year. Our shower didn't work properly for ages, and took ages for the issue to actually be fixed (ended up using a different shower on the floor instead). Home at halls app is decent, and the reporting system is okay, sometimes struggle finding the issue I need to report as it doesn't fit into the titles. The social space isn't the best, infrequent activities run in there, and closed most of the time. The cleaner are lovely, always say hi, ask how I am. Had real issues with Glide (WiFi providers) and it took me until the final fortnight to have the issue fixed (I raised it October 2023).
Hi, Thank you for your feedback. We encourage residents to report all issues via the dedicated Home at Halls app or contact the 24/7 Halls Hotline so that our team can rectify as soon as possible. Home@Halls also put on events in the common areas to bring students together and students living in halls can go to any event across campus. Thank you for your feedback regarding WIFI – we generally receive very positive feedback in our regular customer service surveys regarding WIFI speed, however we do advise that any issues can be picked up directly with the provider Glide whose details are shared on arrival as part of your induction. Each room has both WIFI and ethernet access. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Very quiet and clean hall close to the campus ( about 5-7 minute walk to the lecture). It isn’t as social as other halls as this one is more of the quiet hall but for the price and what you get definitely recommend. One recommendation I’d add is have a bigger JCR similar to the one in Sheffield hall and also have better maintenance for the lifts as they broke down couple times during the year.
Hi, Thank you for your review! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the quietness and cleanliness of St Georges Hall. The lifts in the halls are tested to the highest standards. However, as with all lifts occasionally they can break down. We have set response times for resolving all issues reported to the Halls Hotline. This will be advised to you once it is reported either over the phone, by email or app. If a specialist part or contractor is needed to fix the matter the above times may be extended, and you will be advised. Where possible, we will provide you with a temporary solution in the interim. Kind regards, The Accommodation Team
It’s not a good hall, even though the location is good, but the room is too tiny
Hi, Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear your experience fell below expectations. We do appreciate your feedback and are continually working to improve student experience. Lived in the quiet block of St Georges, lived with a group of people that were all fiendly and like minded, there were weekly light cleans where the rubbish would have been taken, and communal bathroom cleans too. The rom was large and had a sink, which was perfect.
Decent sized rooms, seems like it's being refurbished slowly
Overall good i like my hall have had good experience
Very good location. Nice spaces and good value for money. Very close to everything.
The common room is exquisite. Wifi is great.
Living in St George's Hall was the best decision I ever made. St George's is very sociable, I made my closest friends there and we knew/were friends with nearly everyone in our block. St George's is in the perfect location; right by the main campus and Sports Park and right by the bus stop into town (it is also walkable to town but the bust is very cheap). Perfect for if you want to work in town or go on nights out there as the bus runs 24/7. The wardens at St George's are so helpful and will help you with anything you need, and the maintenance team will fix any problem quickly for you. Great accommodation for nightlife, but also study and quite spaces if you wish to use them. En-suite rooms are lovely. Would 100% recommend!
Living in halls was such an amazing experience. I made so many of my friends there. The room I had was clean and accommodating enough for me to live happily, and the halls were social enough to ensure that I didn’t spend too much time in my bedroom!
Rooms are a good size. Beds are extremely comfortable and difficult to get out of in the morning. Facilities are good. Kitchens are highly sociable places and good amount of space for storage and in fridges. Bit of a trek to campus but a pleasant walk on a sunny day (need wellies over the sports ground). Close to the sports centre, bus stops and local shops. It is quiet on the whole but St George's makes a good bolt-hole. Staff are lovely.
Decent halls, good room size. If you're lookig to socialize this probably isn't the halls for you - it's really quiet and not much goes on. It's close to the Uni, shops and gym.
Extremely cold and nobody does anything about it no matter how much you complain. Good location, but not worth this much money .
Location's great, and studio room is pretty nice
Close to campus so you can get there in 5 min if you take the short cut. Other than that it's a bit mediocre
I live in an old block , so its" old" and no lift. Also , the toilet cannot flush properly. But, the room is relatively big , with a large common area.
Great infrastructure and nature, wonderful social interaction, perfect-sized room, Wifi all time and everywhere. Good halls management
If you're in a washbasin room the kitchens aren't big enough.
The receptionist lost my parcel. Without reviewing the cctv or paying me back the amount. They just let the case go. SMH.
Really good halls, just the right distance from campus. There isn't much of a social space but large kitchens where everyone hangs out
The shared bathroom accomodation was terrible . Bathroom bins never emptied, toilet water overflowed into the kitchen . Kitchen was tiny and shared between 12 - not enough room or chairs for everyone to use the kitchen at once. Wouldn't recommend if you can afford anything better! But it's the joint cheapest on campus along with wessex
As the cheapest hall, St. George's is still a little pricey at £100 a week, but the bedrooms are larger than I expected and we all have a washbasin each too. In my flat, I share one toilet and one shower with 5 other people, but we are able to use the other two flat's facilities on our floor. We do only have one fridge between 6 of us so I have had to invest in an extra, mini fridge to help us all along. The location is fantastic, 3 minute walk to the gym and the same to the corner shops. Takes about 10 minutes to walk to campus.
