I loved Benyon hall. The location is great, it’s slightly secluded but a ten minute walk from the centre of Whiteknights campus, and 15 from London Road. (As a London Road student I would really recommend the Northcourt group which this is a part of or St George’s as the other accommodations aren’t that close to this campus). It’s maybe five minutes away from a bus stop to get into town. There are also corner shops five mins away ans a small Tesco fifteen mins away which is great for shopping. Benyon’s laundry room wasn’t too far away and rarely busy. My kitchen had plenty of space for six people. Maintenance usually solved issues very quickly. I had an all-female quiet lifestyle flat, which I think is a great choice if you want to make friends who aren’t huge on clubbing. I’d recommend using Facebook to try and find your flatmates before you move, and joining the block’s GC because sometimes people throw pres for everyone. My room had a perfect amount of space and so much storage.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Benyon Hall at the University of Reading offers a comfortable, modern living experience, especially suited to students who value convenience, community, and security. One of its best features is the large, modern kitchen. Spacious and well-equipped with all the essentials, it’s ideal for students who enjoy cooking and socializing. The ample countertop space and dining area make it easy to prepare meals, dine together, and build connections with flatmates, creating a vibrant communal atmosphere. The hall’s WiFi speed and reliability are also impressive. In a world where online classes, research, and streaming are essential, Benyon Hall’s fast and consistent internet connection makes academic and social life much easier. You won’t have to worry about connectivity issues disrupting your studies or downtime, which is a real asset. Really enjoyed living here for my first year.
Spacious and comfortable room with good amount of storage space.

The room was very nice, however cleaners were not always efficient, and is not the most sociable situation.

My experience with living in Benyon Hall was etremely pleasent. Any reported issues, which were minimal, were resolved promptly. The location to campus and bus stops was very helpful for living at university. The wifi did have some issues throughout the year, but they were sorted out quickly. The value for money is excellent for this particular accomodation. The weekly cleaning was carried out regularly and with high-standard. The social space in the kitchen was limited, mainly due to the size of the kitchen table, and the chairs were good enough, but slightly uncomfortable. Other social spaces, near the accomodation were however comfortable and nice to be in. The social experience of living in this accomodation is exceptional, there are a wide range of social events held all throughout the year and there is a welcoming sense of community here.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Everything was fine but I do wish that we had a lounge area & that the showers weren’t a wet floor bathroom. There was also a lot of silverfish
Hi, Thank you so much for your review and feedback! We're glad to hear that you had a generally positive experience. All our halls are equipped with JCRs and common rooms, providing plenty of spaces for socializing beyond individual flats. Additionally, our Home@Halls team regularly hosts events in these communal areas to help bring students together and create a vibrant community. We appreciate your concerns regarding silverfish. It's important to maintain a clean and tidy kitchen, as poor housekeeping can often contribute to these issues. We also recommend avoiding keeping food in your bedroom to prevent attracting silverfish. If you notice any silverfish or have concerns, we highly encourage residents to report this via the dedicated Home at Halls app or the 24/7 Halls Hotline at 0800 029 1984. A specialist pest control company will investigate and help us address any issues based on their recommendations. For more information on identifying pests, you can check the Pests and Insects poster on your kitchen noticeboard or access it online. If you would like to discuss further or share more detailed feedback, please do reach out on accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or 0118 200 5011. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Overpriced accomodation that’s not on campus, few silverfish problems as bathrooms needs a big update , social rooms cold and tv don’t work would help if there were sofas in kitchens

We continually review our offering to ensure our rooms offer value for money and offer a range of room types to suit varied budgets. Absolutely loved staying in benyon halls. The scenery, such as the lake, is beautiful and the variety of birds and nature around is a nice touch. Great price for what you are given (which is everything you need), great location ( university is 10 min walk away, town centre is 30 min walk away) easy access to busses, GP services, food establishments . Would definitely stay here again.

The WiFi was spotty for the first month and the fire alarm kept going off in the night. But after that first month everything was great. There was plenty of space in the kitchen, the rooms were designed perfectly for storage and the maintenance was easy to get in contact with and acted fast when needed. Security being around made it feel very safe and the closeness to other halls were great socially.

Had a fun and meaning time. Met lots of different people and got to socialise and relax by the pond. Comfy room and convenient location only a few minutes away from the university entrance.

Generally decent to live in, a couple of noisy disruptions during the year, but nothing too horrible. The common room was a bit sad.
Hi, Thank you for your review, we appreciate it here at Reading! We are pleased to hear you had an overall positive experience in accommodation. There will always be an element of noise associated with communal living, however we do have staff on-site 24/7 who will quickly respond to any noise complaints should they arrive. We are making continual progress of improvements to halls and rooms, while balancing offering value for money. If you would like to discuss this further or provide more detailed feedback, please contact accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or phone 0118 200 5011. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
The wifi was excellent and ethernet connection was always reliable and was trustworthy. Supermarkets/groceries were not very accessible and needed to be delivered instead of bought in person as it will be too heavy to carry and too far away for any cheaper alternatives. The place is further than other campuses with around a 15min walk to campus and it can be quiet and can be more isolating (but there are events people may hold, i was just never interested in them), but I enjoyed the peace and quiet at times!
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are pleased to hear you had a positive experience with the WIFI. There are JCRs and common rooms in all halls, therefore socialising is not restricted to flats. Home@Halls also put on events in the common areas to bring students together. There is a co-op based on campus and from the bus stop located on campus students are also able to go to Asda as well as other food shops in town. If you would like to discuss this further or provide more detailed feedback, please contact accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or phone 0118 200 5011. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team

Good building. Good location. Lacked social area - could have a pool table.

To clarify i was at benyon in block G, flat 2. Just fyi there are no elevators at this accom, luckily my flat was on the first floor. I think it was really valuable and worth it having an ensuite for my first year of university, my concern would be the mould in the wet bathroom that grows really easily, so i scrubbed my walls alot and even on the first day of entering the accomodation there was mould. Additionally there was mould on my window which was also facing a kitchen so I barely had my curtains open for the most of the year. It is a good accomplishment, its a 15-minute walk to whitenknights campus which is where i had most of my lectures, I wouldnt say its the closest accommodation, which is what i originally thought when I picked it. I would say Bridges is closer and spent my time in my friend's accom between lectures. Wifi at the start of year was kinda bad, coming in and out and I had to use mobile data and it went completely out for everyone in accoms but .got fixed.

Good place to meet people, good location however there is a problem with silverfish, more ventilation needed.
Hi, Thank you for your review, we really appreciate it here at Reading. We are glad to hear you found your accommodation social and enjoyed the location of it! Overall, It has been a wonderful experience, being a 6 minutes walk to the bus station and 15 minutes walk to Henley Business School. The area is perfect for anyone who’s looking for a quiet place to rest. It’s just a 15 minutes walk to park bar as well. Management have been quick in assessing the problem within the rooms or equipments.

while it the halls are located a short walk of camus, the surrounding area is absolutely stunning, the communal areas are well kept and cleaned regularly by friendly staff

Not bad. A bit further from uni compared to other accommodations but has shops and a few eating places near- salt and smash, greggs, domino’s, premier and asian food store.

TLDR: Accommodation is good, a bit on the expensive side but overall a great stay. About a 10 min walk to the main campus but is a nice walk especially in spring/ summer! - There is a laundromat very close (literally across the pond) which seems to be £2.50 for a wash / dry for most of not all items which is amazing considering the prices of other university’s laundromat services. - Kitchens are a good size! They are cleaned and the bins are emptied by cleaners every week so nothing to complain about. Hobs are in good condition, electric I believe. -There are a few convenience stores (i.e Premier) nearby that if you don’t feel like going to the Co-op on campus, you can go there (less than 5 min walk away) with a bus stop right outside them to go into central reading! -The rooms are good, i’ve had no issues myself. (heard that maintenance issues are quickly resolved though!) However the bathroom fan you cannot turn off (there no switch for it, just light switches for the room(s).

Not a very good accommodation as there has been a lot of faults and issues with Wi-Fi, water control and others.
small, far from town center, not a lot of stuff around it, not easy to make friends, but seems safe
This hall is around 15 min away from campus but if you have any lectures in agriculture or the psych building, it would be a half an hour walk. The bathroom is also quite small and is a wet room so not a lot of room to hand your belongings.
Benyon Hall is a decent accommodation, it's generally the cheapest halls to live in I believe, however the rent is due to go up for next year so that might not stay the same. The rooms are a good size with good space for storage. However the constant silverfish infestation is pretty bad. The toilet is a wet room so it's always damp in there, but it's an ensuite so it's slightly bareaeble. The kitchen is good and is cleaned regularly. It's quite close to campus without being on campus itself. Has washing facilities as well as a bus stop quite close by and some shops. Issues are generally resolved, however my radiator simply doesn't work and has never turned on so maybe bring some warm clothes.
Really close to the uni, shops, and the university gym.
Hated benyon, call it the quiet ones - when people were drunk constantly and you werent able to sleep
Considering we’re so close to London, what we pay for what we get is very fair. The surroundings of Benyon are beautifully natural, and you’ll often see birds in the pond and squirrels in the trees. Very fond of the Benyon cat too!
Notgood.........................ahhahahahahahahahaha
Great location and the rooms are pretty decent.
Highly disappointed by the standard of these halls. Kitchens are in desperate need of an update and there is limited areas to socialise. The wet rooms cause damp and as a result I had a silverfish infestation which was not dealt well- forcing me to come home. Overall Benyon hall is substandard and would discourage anyone from applying for them.
Benyon hall is nice from my experience. It's roughly a 15 minute walk away from the Whiteknights uni campus, which at least wakes you up every morning. The area has a pond and JCR hut next to it and is pretty friendly. Wifi is quite good and value for money isn't bad. I've enjoyed my time at the halls. The bedrooms are a reasonable size with a good amount of storage. The bathroom could be better, so best to check the hall out yourself and see if it's up to your standards. Overall, cleaning by staff was always done perfectly every week in the kitchen and the freshers week was amazing at Benyon! I would recommend coming to Benyon hall since it really is a good hall. It's definitely not luxurious or a premium hall like stent on but has a nice atmosphere always here.
Poor and need improvement and shouldn't be classed as on campus living as its not
The rooms are fairly modern, and the en suites are nice. It depends on your block but I had a good social experience. But the North Court Bar is poor.
The halls are pretty good and nice to share with only 5 others
The geese are like Marmite, you either learn to love them or see them as the devil's spawn...
Quite nice. Not far from the main campus. Close to shops e.g.today's local, cost cutter
It's not as bad as people say it is
Great community feel - lovely outside area too
All in all a good hall, a bit expensive, but the rooms are better than in some other halls.
So happy I chose this hall! Bathrooms are ensuite which is great, kitchen is large and room has multiple plug sockets which are very handy! Halls team come to sort out problems very quickly and the jcr is a fantastic communal space that we use regularly to watch tv and socialise.
Really great halls! Enjoyed my time! Worth every penny.
very quiet (perfect for second years)
The wet room ruins the modern look of the actual bedroom. It is furnished nicely. The kitchen is OK but is a bit old. Cookers are ancient. Socially there is noone about as opposed to halls on campus where there is a much better atmosphere. Only social spot is the small JCR hut which is 95% of the time empty. For what you pay for, you could get much better halls at reading such as mccombie.
Nice place, away from the hubbub of main campus, so there's peace and quiet when you want it! However, not so far away that the walk in every day is a nightmare!
Not the best halls. The surrounding location is lovely but the walk to the law building and other on campus halls does get tedious at times but still isn't too much to deal with
If you're after a social hall Benyon isn't the place for that, though there is a communal room you're able to use no one goes there and the JCR I had poorly organised any kind of event they put on. For the price you pay you would expect to not have millions of silverfish in literally every room, only good things about Benyon is the location is lovely and green and it's less than a 3 min walk to greggs.
Perfect if you want a chilled green area, slightly more private location and extremely close to shops and campus
Just seems really expensive for what you get. The en suite bathrooms are really tiny and a little bit dirty.
Feels to far away from uni. Room full of silverfish and the shower floor is basically the whole ensuite floor. The water gets all over the bathroom floor and it's annoying. Warden is way too strict on small things as well.
The JCR is awful and I've never been in the social area but it's quite nice to be a little bit off campus but not too much
Very Green and set in a lovely area great been close to shops and everyone is friendly
There is never going to be a 'perfect' hall of residence. Benyon has clean, fairly modern rooms, with a wet room ensuite, which I like. The kitchen is good size with enough storage and space to do general kitchen things. There needs to be more common areas to socialise, although the hut is rather nice. The geese are terrifying but cool. Security is good.
Amazing standard. Great rooms, great kitchen. No social area within blocks, eg no sofas or any social spaces. Common room was just never used, not sure why.
