Windsor Hall was amazing. The opportunity to make friends within the flat was brilliant due to having so many of us! It meant we were always socialising and you always knew a friendly face on campus. The meal plan included with the accommodation took so much pressure off of another first year stress - cooking. I was able to go about my day not worrying that I didn’t have anything in the fridge, or meal panning. It was also a great chance to see friends and catch up over a meal. The room itself was lovely. It had all the space and storage i needed, and the shared bathrooms were not at all as bad as i thought they’d be, considering i shared mine with all boys! The other entertainment around the accommodation was amazing also. Having Park Bar so close was perfect. Whenever we needed some space outside of the flat we could pop not even as far as down the road for a drink! There was always a lively buzz in Park Bar that made it an enjoyable experience every time.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Windsor is ideal for the first years. I would argue that the meal plan is not a necessity, it would be perfect to live in Windsor with a choice of meal plan, rather than platinum. The social side was ok. We could all eat together, and because of the placement of Windsor, we were never too far from our friends in other accommodations. Would I recommend Windsor? No. Since the social spaces were limited, however; if one were to be stuck in Windsor. They'd be alright.

Great value for money, considering its location. With everything close by, like Park Eat, park bar, park lounge and laundry, The room itself is decent, providing a comfortable living space. However, one downside is the frequent issues with the lift, which can be frustrating at times. Overall, it's a solid option for its price, combining proximity to amenities with a lively social atmosphere.

Really good area, right next to student bar but struggle with no social spaces. Kitchen very small and food usually poor

Food was awful and there was no space to socialise in the flat. Nice clean rooms though

I stayed in Windsor during my first year of university, it was a great place to start and settle in, getting used to accommodation life with cheap pricing with the attached meal plan taking away a lot of the initial stresses, overall I would recommend Windsor for anyone adjusting to independent living.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
It was good for location as it was in the centre of uni and an only a couple minutes walk from HBS and the palmer building and library. The meal plan meant that I never worried about food and park eats was by it so I never had to travel far for food. Park lounge and park bar were great for social events. The cleaners were always good. WiFi was good at times. Lots of people to talk to down your corridor.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
This is the worst place to live as a student. The lift here is broken down many times and they take an average of a month to 2 months to fix it. And if you end up on higher floors thats very inconvenient. The location is close to majority of the campus buildings which is great but the crowd at park bar is ridiculously loud and it does get frustrating at times to listen to hooligans shouting about past midnight. To be honest if i had known these issues i would not have lived here. The university offers “quieter” accommodations but from what ive heard from people staying there thats all just namesake. The whole place is a mess in terms of crowd conduct and etiquette.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to hear your experience fell below expectations. The lifts in the halls are tested to the highest standards. However, as with all lifts occasionally they can break down. We have set response times for resolving all issues reported to the Halls Hotline. This will be advised to you once it is reported either over the phone, by email or app. Our Quieter Lifestyle accommodation is an option available for students who prefer a quieter living environment to standard accommodation, however there will always be an element of noise associated with communal living. We do have staff on-site 24/7 who will quickly respond to any noise complaints should they arrive Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Park bar catered food is terrible and walls are too thin and noisy
Windsor hall has a common stereotype: It is for people who can not cook or people with problems
Needs decorating and better facilities. However, based conveniently on campus and a great social like. Awful food
Alright, amazing value and perfect location and food but no good social spaces
No communal space but other than that good
No social space for intimate chilled out Flat parties etc.
Very social and the best halls on campus! Only downside is there's no common room so we resort to the corridors!
The best social life on campus
good hall. very close to centre of campus. social hall. as it is catered you go to the restaurant to get food downstairs which is very convenient. food is often repeated though but is nice.
A great hall with lots of people in one flat so you have many people to socialise with. Bar, washing, post and food outlets outside the front door which are very handy.
Unmissable social experience with maximum friends to meet. if you can put up with with the little rooms, average catered food and no real place to sit down other than the floor or beds in the flats then it is the best halls in reading to make lifetime friends.
Windsor is the best hall in the world, ever! Linh Nguyen, Windsor Hall Fresher's King (2015)
Only bad thing is no communal spaces, however this forces you to be social! Great value for money as food is included. Room sizes are good as well.
It is a great social hall that is well kept. There are several bathrooms in each flat and the large groups in each flat makes it more sociable. The kitchens however could be slightly larger as a more social space for a flat of 26 or 14
Brilliant hall, most social at Reading Uni, I loved first year
Perfect location, getting a bit run down
The catering package is pretty bad and definitely not worth the money but is definitely best hall on campus, right next to park bar where you meet loads of people, especially older years and closest to lectures. Big flats mean you are bound to get on with someone in your flat!
great place but no communal space at all.
Very basic but by the most sociable and fun halls. Also in the best location, on campus and right next to park bar.
Looks bad, has no common room, but location is great, and the people in the halls make it
Best social hall, great location!
Prime location - relatively cheap for reading ! However social space is non existent and the food is appalling. Would recommend if you cannot afford the more expensive halls at Reading.
Worst halls of residence at the uni. Not a 'budget' option as the catering allowance doesn't cover 3 meals a day.
Horrible halls, infested with silver fish and really really old. Definitely not worth the money especially as there's no social space not even a table
Only downside is the thin walls.
Concrete zoo, except the animals are free to flip between cages and tangle.
