While staying there during 2023-2024, I only felt like, the meal plans should be flexible to the residents. A platinum meal plan should not be mandatory for staying in Wantage hall. Should give choices among different meal plans. I personally very rarely did breakfasts but need to pay for them. The only things to consider. otherwise staying in halls are kind of luxury for me because everything are maintained and taken care of.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

It is a good place, but there are some things that could be improved.
Staff are lovely - cleaners do a fantastic job and food is always top notch.

The hall is ok for the amount you pay, the new court building is very noisy and the bathroom facilities were always getting blocked.Cannot fault the cleaning team, always smiling and chatting to students. kitchenettes are very small, which is a shame as students at the accommodation are on a compulsory meal plan which is not always to everyone's taste. The rooms were ok, a little small and some did not have a wash basin. Single bed rooms for the price of the accommodation was also disappointing. The study space was a great addition and very useful, however the JCR was not used very often as it had restricted times and was locked at certain points in the day. Old court is a beautiful building and it was lovely to walk through the courtyard everyday, however, due to the age of the building, people were constantly breaking things which meant that all tenants had to pay an equal share of the damages due to the contract which was very frustrating. Overall I had an ok experience of the hall.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to provide a detailed feedback and review! We appreciate your feedback regarding your experience in Wantage hall. We're glad to hear that you found the cleaning team friendly and that you enjoyed the study space and the beauty of Old Court. We're sorry to hear about the noise coming from New Court, issues with blocked bathroom facilities and other residents causing damage. We do encourage students to report all issues via the dedicated Home at Halls app or the 24/7 Halls Hotline so that our team can rectify any issues as soon as possible. We appreciate your feedback regarding the size of the kitchenette. At Reading, we offer both self-catered and catered halls. If you would like to discuss further or share more detailed feedback, please do reach out on accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or 0118 200 5011. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
I enjoy my time in the Old Court. The rooms are big, old-style, and a cute green area is inside. The most important is security, the territory is closed and good security also there is 24/7 help lines.

Wantage Hall was good value for money
Hi, Thanks so much for your review. We’re glad you had a great experience living at Reading! Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
In terms of social experience, Wantage halls was quite good, especially when the bar was occasionally opened. However, in terms of location, it is slightly further away from campus (especially from the Agriculture building) making the walk there inconvenient.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it here at Reading. We are pleased you had a positive and sociable experience in accommodation. All our accommodation is located within a 15-minute walk to the main library on Whiteknights campus. Our accommodation is in various locations around campus to try to cater to what facilities students would like to be close to. Really enjoyed my time in Wantage which was in my opinion the best accommodation which I saw for 1st years due to its better location in regards to town and only short walk to campus. Hopefully the bar opens up sooner rather than later, would have been very useful. The food was fairly good too, better than anticipated anyway.
Hi, Thanks so much for your review. We’re glad you had a great experience living at Reading! Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Regular damages in the hall with zero effort to investigate who did it. Building poorly maintained. Rubbish thrown down the lower floor windows into the basement level. Extremely noisy.
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience fell below expectations. We encourage residents to report all issues via the dedicated Home at Halls app so that our team can rectify as soon as possible. Regarding your feedback on noise - there will always be an element of noise associated with communal living, however we do have staff on-site 24/7 who will quickly respond to any noise complaints should they arrive. If you would like to discuss this further or provide more detailed feedback, please contact accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk or phone 0118 200 5011. Kind regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Good location close to convenient stores and relatively close to campus. Meal plan was good (buffet style) value for money.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it here at Reading! We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time living here. Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Meal plan was good for value, expensive, but food is actually really good (buffet style!) multiple places on campus + bar down road (the dairy) menus online so can look in advance. slightly off campus, about 10-15 min walk to get to lectures. Near corner shops + Asian supermarket+ dominos + local pub close to st George and st pat's couldn't select between old court and new court, old court is the fancy Oxfordian buildings and rooms you see in all the photos, new court is a very typical slightly dated student acom. Toilets depends on your floor, cleaned most mornings, same with kitchens - great for pres. some what social, again really depends on your floor, it's sort of hotel style with corridors rather than flats, up to about 20ish people per corridor.

Hi, Thanks so much for your review. We’re glad you had a great experience living at Reading! Kind Regards, The Reading Accommodation Team
Very good social experience, but cleanliness was not the best from my flatmates, also building is just so slightly off campus but it is closer to town then other accomodations. I do recommend.

Great value for money, with catered hall and okay food .
Thieving b******s on the management. Plenty of problems with the hall and your deposit gets deducted strangely with all sorts of "damage charges" from incidents nobody even knew of. Not sure about other halls, but you're better off staying at outside accommodation since the management is out to take as much of your deposit as possible. Meal plans not worth it. Overpriced food with no nutritional value and it doesn't last you the week unless you only eat 1 meal a day. Lunch is mostly leftovers from breakfast.
Lacked a social environment for me to thrive in
Really classic hall. With lots of character and great social life. Has a pub which is great for snake bites and jugs of alcohol
Very spacious, really clean, catered food is alright, but nothing under the line of decency.
If it wasn't for the architecture, I would say this hall would be mediocre if not worse
Very sociable halls, easy to make your way around. Also the fact there is a bar two min walk away from my room means a nice place to hang out and drink. Kitchen was also modern which is surprising given the fact Wantage is an older halls.
We have our own bar so ✔️✔️✔️✔️
I really love staying in Wantage but I'm not sure if I love it because it's such a great hall or because of the people in it. The wifi is super fast and we do have 'Eat At Wantage' and it's a very old building so it has lots of history in it BUT, it's quite a walk from Wantage to School or to Union and the Common room is... almost always empty. The rooms in Old Court are big so you get to be creative but the ones in New Court are quite small and kind of remind me of a walk in closet.
is a great atmoshphere but is bloody cold!
Lots of out dated rules saying where you cannot go even if it makes no sense. Security is terrible. Food is s*** 70% of the time. Other than that though everything else was fantastic.
Dilapidated needs refurbishment in new court
