First of all the reception team are all very helpful and have always been very kind and supportive towards me. The laundry facilities took me a minute to figure out but once I did it is really useful and convenient.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Tremendously Excellent stay over here
Apartment is extremely nice and well done, just a shame that not everyone in the flat gets along.
absolute waste of money. the only thing you’re paying for is location and even that’s not worth it. the rooms are so minuscule that you can reach your desk from the bed, which are pretty uncomfortable. the trains are extremely loud all through the day and night and there’s always some kind of siren going off. the walls between rooms and flats are so thin you can hear everything, worse if you have awful neighbours who actively seek to make your life hell. who’s idea was it to put an all girl flat next to an all boy flat?? security don’t care, one flat has been reported multiple times and still 0 consequences. full of violent druggies that are left to do whatever they want with no consequences. awful, go into private accommodation.

There are accommodations available at a cheaper price that offer more facilities, bigger rooms and a better homely feel, I feel that the price of this accommodation is slightly more expensive than what it should be in that sense. Location wise it's fantastic for university and access into the High Street. However, it is right next to the train tracks so be prepared to feel the building shake, have trains waking you up throughout the night and sounding their horns throughout the night as well. On the other hand, the staff experience I have had here has been incredible. Alison on reception is a true credit to university employee's, she goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and safe here. I will definitely miss her when I leave! The maintenance staff and property managers are usually swift to respond to any problems. The internet here is fast and reliable and I can't fault it. Additionally, this accommodation has launderette facilities using a company called circuit laundry (=££)
Stay away, use private halls they’re far better. The rooms are far smaller than any other university managed accommodation, and are plagued with issues such as the water pressure meaning you’re barely able to shower and the window breaking every so often. The value for money is comically bad, especially for the studios which are tiny, with less to offer in every single way compared with privately managed studios and they’re a grand more expensive. If you ever have a problem and need to contact security or maintainable, there’s a good chance you’ll be faced with an extremely overzealous, rude and unpleasant phone operator with no respect for anyone.
Currently staying in a studio, decent size space for one person. Kitchenette is well equipped with fridge, sink and combi oven (instructions were not provided for how to use the combi oven so I can only use it as a microwave) only downside is lack of oven so have been using an air fryer. Lots of storage - too many shelves for the amount of stuff I have which is a plus! En-suite it well equipped but no storage at all, only one shelf space above the sink. Lighting is great. Desk is a decent size. Bed isn’t super comfy but I bought a mattress topper and that made it a lot better. Luckily I’m not on the train track side so noise from trains isn’t really an issue. Walls between studios are fairly thin and I have noisy neighbours so be aware about how much noise you are making and don’t be afraid to tell your neighbours if they’re too loud! Being on the eighth floor means there’s no shelter from the wind and it can be a bit noisy if the wind is blowing directly into the ventilator.
I'm in a studio and I love it, its smaller than I was expecting but cosy, its nice and quiet and the staff are lovely and helpful, helped me many times such as replacing my combi oven and are always happy to help no matter what and get things sorted quickly. They actually care about you. It's nice and quiet up here (apart from the fridge that buzzes sometimes but that that's the price you pay for a studio I would invest in some good earplugs for sleeping) parcels are always notified to you extremely quickly and the WiFi is amazing. Also great location as it only takes me 5 mins to walk to my lectures in the morning which is great! Honestly I love it here, couldn't ask for a better accommodation. Also highly recommended a studio for people who are looking to move to uni and don't wish to share. Ignore the myth that you can't make friends in a studio, I've met some amazing people up here and even made a close friend that I always go out with :). Absolutely love it here, thank you 179!!
This is coming from a current student who lives in 179, The rooms are a decent size for everything you need, as long as you stay organised and use boxes it shouldn't become dirty, they provide a small bin in your room just not one in the on-suite bathroom so if you get a period then I would recommend buying a small bin (mine was £7 from ikea). The kitchen/living room is pretty good, we have 3 fridge/freezers, 2 ovens, 2 hobs, 2 sinks, 2 microwaves and 2 kettles for a flat of 10 so it's decently furbished. A downside to the rooms is that there are often drainage problems with the showers and laundry is far too expensive to be done properly. It's £2.90 for one wash cycle so if you sort your laundry into darks, colours and whites, it adds up over time. It's also £1.90 to use the dryers but I have a clothes horse so I don't bother with that. The location is the best out of all of the University run accommodation services, we're right on the High Street so it's very central to the city.
Noisey 24/7 with holes being punched into walls and lifts/doors to building always being broken. The students themselves where bullies and only cared about the next session or drugs. It's a good place to live so long as the students aren't d***heads
Perfect location for student living Good price for quality and experience Brilliant for social life
