I had my foundation year in the middle of lockdown so it was hard to have any social activities with anyone. However, the staff were amazing and the lecturers were outstanding
Brilliant university with a wide array of courses. Fantastic staff. Numerous clubs and societies to enjoy
IT systems need updating. Could be more organised other than it’s fairly good
Even with the impact of Covid I have still managed to get a lovely year with minimal insights on campus. I’m basing this rating of the experience I got on campus and would highly recommend as their teaching is amazing :)
No sports and exercise, wifi needs improvement in some areas of the campus
nice experience but too expensave
The food on campus is bland I don’t like it
I’m impressed with this university, I enjoy the delivery of teaching. But they really ought to have a supermarket closer to the campus.
They need their own accommodation in city centre
Bad wifi and too much “reading” given. What sort of teaching is this? This goes for many universities so I’m not singling Ulster out
The university needs more staff!
Sub-par in my opinion, and wifi does not appear to work in parts of the campus
Great placement programme. Got the chance to go to Liverpool for the year to coach and have loved every second of it. Placement supervisor is very nice and helpful.
Excellent place to live and study
The Magee campus is gorgeous especially with the great hall. Smaller campus means lecturers are good at helping. And careers team is super personal and has plenty of time to listen.
Compared to other campuses there could be more going on, more facilities and support.
Great experience and facilities.
Somewhat satisfactory all around
Ulster university is located perfectly in the city center. This makes it easy to walk to places. The teachers and staff are easy to approach. There is always activities for students to join. I like that all classes/workshops are located in the one building. Only thing I wish is that the workshops were open on the weekend.
Ive had such a great experience so far in ulster. The wifi is tricky tho
Brilliant from a Computer Science perspective. Fees could be lower on a placement year.
I'm an ERASMUS exchange student and the first time I arrived at Ulster I was a bit lost because it is a huge university (Jordanstown Campus) but you find yourself quickly as there are signs and maps in the Uni. So far the teachers I have are great, but you have to put in the work; If you do not study, chances are you'll fail, there's no secret. And also, do not be afraid to ask questions when you do not know something. It's better to ask a question and take the risk of being "a fool", than staying a fool all your life because you were afraid to just ask
I actually love the university and it’s facilities offered
The UUJ campus can be confusing, especially for first year students, but there are plently of opportunities and events that happen almost every day to make university life more exciting.
Really good location. Lack of clubs on site but good information available on where to find them. Students union is good and regularly get emails regarding upcoming events
Good WiFi availbale on campus Excellent speedy response careers service and active on social media alerting you to local and global opportunities to enhance your cv Ample amount of clubs and societies to join particular it you enjoy sport
For the Belfast campus, there is no sports only in Jordanstown. Even at this, trying to get out of class to play matches is. STRUGGLE. Teachers do not understand that a healthy body = healthy mind.
Jordanstown campus is a lovely area but the rooms are ancient, as is the tables and chairs. Societies are a joke in comparison to every other uni on the planet. They say they have loads but if I'm based in Jordanstown, am I really going to travel to Coleraine one night a week for an Irish dancing class? I think not. What's more, so many societies hardly organise activities. Take the Communication society for example. First semester they had a pub crawl and that was it. Doesn't seem very academically driven, does it?
It's a good uni. My lecturers are helpful and easy to talk to. Not much else I can say except I'm gonna be in a ton of debt after it.
Didn‘t spend enough time there. But everybody seems very friendly.
Can't get WiFi in Jordanstown library
Good library and gym, recommend block 12 and 14 if you want to get your steps up for the day
This university is well run and has good physical facilities , however it is massively lacking in a university on campus counsellor , considering the amount of mental health issues particularly within the fine art department and across the other courses. The university are making an effort with their mind your mood campaign for mental health, however its simply not good enough to offer 6 free counselling sessions with and off-campus facility. Honestly it makes it more difficult for students to reach out when in need of support , especially those new to the city. I find the general feeling in the university to be quite "non-community" for want of a better term. Students tend to keep to themselves and it lacks a social atmosphere which likely contributes to the lack of societies. It is unknown to me what the students union get payed to do. They seem to do nothing at all. I would like to see them earn their pay by tackling some of the ongoing student issues within the university.
It’s pretty good, my course is good enough. I do feel like for what I pay there isn’t a lot provided in terms of supplies.
So glad to be completing my education here
I enjoy university and the education it provides
Have nothing to say. Everything is just so perfect
Facilities at Jordanstown are outdated and timetabling is inconvenient. Hopefully this is different with the change in campus
Rubbish, very disorganised, mislead you in terms of what is expected, over worked staff mean you get little or no support just rushed half baked email guidance, rubbish IT systems, internet and support too
Brilliant all round university
The university is a great place for students looking to study sports but the jordanstown campus itself is very limited
Great societies where you can meet so many different students from different backgrounds. Most lecturers are fantastic but some could be better, not all are great with students
very cultural and alot of creative fascilities
unorganised staff, clustered deadlines, no priority for student wellbeing. buildings falling apart and confusing.
The university has seen better days but has a homely and chill atmosphere. Many good food options as well.
Love the uni. Everyone has a good relationship with lecturers and students
It’s great, the facilities and equipment are more than what you need and it’s overall just incredible
Ulster is a really nice university to go to , from day 1 I was made to feel welcome.
Amazing teaching staff who care about you as an individual rather than a face in the crowd
As a student who has just finished first year I have to say that the society life here is great. I joined with very few people that I know and I am quite a shy person but after joining some of the societies here I quickly began to meet people. In particular I enjoyed activities run by the Ulster Society of Student Engineers who did a great job making engineering feel more engaging.
Been waiting for that move to UU belfast from Jordanstown that's been promised for years...
Scholls within the uni are being spread over four campuses staff are stressed and it has an impact on the overall experience the clubs and socities are disgraceful as well as the students union they simply dont want to know
Overall good university but poor internet connection throughout the college.
Dreadful. Everything about it.
Jordanstown needs more than just a shop in the student village and the gym is shockingly small. On several occasions I had to wait for several minutes to get on equipment I wanted. The career service as well as lecturers (business Studies) are all approachable and helpful
Appaling Masters Program, poor course content, executed even more poorly. Multiple admin issues with registry office, scheduling etc.
A good university and staff are very welcoming, not research driven but they are career driven ensured to a high standard that their students get jobs. Jordanstown university is quite dated however they are moving to Belfast investment in facilities in the Jordanstown campus is low and is understandable. Overall a great experience at Ulster university where the staff have time for the students.
Lectures are very helpful and friendly, good course content. Just really bad facilities, library opening hours are awful! University closed multiple days coming up to exams giving no place to study. Library is so loud, no quite place to work on a computer
Shameful excuse for a university.
The neglected child of universities in the UK and it shows by is emphasis on its Student Union
Great university and the facilities are great too.
A good uni with friendly staff
Ulster university is a warm welcoming environment, even though Jordanstown is outside of Belfast it has the advantages of being away from the city with big open space to walk and chill between class and there are still plenty of places inside to eat and chill. There are a wide range of societies which make it easy to find something you love and keep pursuing it or to try something new.
Love the campus I am at (jordanstown). Its wonderful having everything in the one building meaning its easy to get around. Also has everything you could need in a uni including a pharmacy!
The facilities in the School of Computing in Jordanstown are great. The building itself is old but that is to be expected since the move to the new campus will be happening soon. The Students Union could be modernised, but I really enjoyed my time in university and I’m glad I chose it.
Lecturers are amazing (in my course) but overall the uni has really gone down hill over the past 3 years
Overall great experience and opportunities provided however gets boring only learning off PowerPoints every lecture
Excellent lectures, tutorials, and lab practicals UUMagee
Good uni with good cafés to grab a quick coffee between classes
Good location, and good support from tutors
Studying in UUB for two years now, I had a great experience while studying at Ulster University. The wifi works perfectly well, it is easy and reliable to use whenever you need it. It is fast and it helps you research things and the amount of MAC computers the university has, it's very useful- which means students can use CAD for their projects. The careers service and student union are very helpful as well if you need anything, for eg. Careers advice, CV, clubs and societies. Student Union helps you to participate in a lot of areas that will be great for your CV, for eg travel to Philadelphia to discuss issues that are related helping students with their welfare, competitions & many more. The campus has a bank, coffee shop, restaurant and a student shop called UNIQUE where students sell their designs to the public.
Great experience at Ulster. I would recommend it to any potential student. The Careers team really helped me secure placement and a graduate job. I would also suggest joining a sports team or society to make new friends.
Poor student union however will likely to improve when campus moves to Belfast.
The cafes and shops are great to get food and being a smaller campus it feel nice knowing you can't really get lost
Do not live on campus. The accommodation people do not care about students.
