Living at Student Roost on Great Patrick Street has been a fantastic experience. The location itself is perfect, especially for anyone attending Ulster University's city-centre campus – it's practically next door! But what truly elevates this accommodation are the amazing facilities and the friendly.A special thanks goes to Conall on the staff team. He was incredibly helpful and always went above and beyond to address any questions I had The communal areas are spacious and comfortable, offering great places to relax with friends between classes. Whether you're unwinding in one of the living rooms, hitting the books in a dedicated study room, or getting a workout in at the 24-hour gym, there's something for everyone. There's even a cinema room for movie nights and a "disco kitchen" for hosting events – perfect for making the most of your

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Reception are really helpful and friendly got me sorted out with any queries I’ve ever had
It is a happy place to live in. Support staff is amazing.
It is Awesome! I love everything!
Student Roost Great Patrick street is a fantastic building with state of the art facilities and incredibly friendly and motivated staff who work around the clock to ensure that your needs are met.
Student roost is in a very good location for students to access necessary amenities. The staff are always very helpful and offer freebies at the front desk! The gym downstairs and the social space are in good condition and helpful. However, to improve the gym could have more equipment and social spaces could be cleaned better such as the host kitchen.
This is a great accommodation, very friendly staff and amazing social spaces. Just a quick 10 minute walk to the city centre and right opposite ulster university

Great experience Love to stay here
Brilliant experience with the staff and support.
I love staying here . This accomodation made me feel home and gave new lot of nice friends🥰
Location is great, lovely rooms and hangout spaces
Best student accommodation In belfast
Overall the experience is good.
Overall I’ve really been enjoying my experience here. Everyone is really friendly and I feel like there are often different events. I only wish the gym was in a more secluded area. Recently they added more stickers to the windows to give more privacy, but I still feel like you can see everything when you walk by. Also the constant fire alarms are annoying, but that’s not really something the property can control and it’s being looked into anyways. So just in general, it’s been pretty great!
Great place for ulster students
Pretty good management with friendly staff. The social places are good too.
The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful It’s nice and cozy everyone and you feel part of a family
Amazing place i love it! The eeception is always so welcoming and the rooms itself are very cozy and nice. Highly recommend
I love great Patrick street! The community there is awesome and I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for an accommodation in Belfast :)
Very clean and safe place. Absolutely perfect location as a student who goes to the belfast bummer. Only mild issue would be wifi connection.
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, I really like my flat and it’s handy having a key fob to get in and out
I have loved living here, there is lots to do and it is very social. 10/10 would recommend
Good value for money. Would recommend to anyone who wishes to stay
I shortlisted the Great Patrick Street because of its easy accessability to the basic needs that a student requires like electricity, Internet, heating, social spaces, gym but living here has been a wonderful experience as it is just the right place to be with a York Gate train station and Bus station right next to it you can travel back and forth to almost all connected towns . Moreover all essential needs and entertainment are at a 2 mins walk from the accommodation.
Ive had a reallly good experience till noww.. goood room mates, flatmates, the reception team is very friendly and helpful always. I would reccomend it to anyone.
Thank you for your review. I am happy to hear that you are having a great stay with us. The staff are great and we are very proud of them. Thank you also for your recommendation, we really appericiate it. Kind regards, Dinneka
Good, great, cool, nice, great
Hi there, than you very much for your review. I am glad to hear that you find your home good, great, cool, nice and great! Wishing you the best of luck as you continue your studies. Kind Regards, Dinneka
The staff is very respectful and friendly. The studios are very nice and spacious, and there is sunlight in the room. The common spaces are clean.
It is much to expensive for students. I would prefer to decide which services I want to have and pay less. The laundry room is not very clean and also to expensive. Every week min. 2 fire alarms is also a no go. There was also a "controllday" where they checked the rooms. I am an adult and I'm paying to much money for being controlled like that. And the last thing I want to ad: the parcelsystem isn't working. They making it harder as it have to be. For me and for them. Jea the rooms are nice but the price would be hotel conditions.
The staff is absolutely lovely and the location is amazing but apart from that I've been having some issues. Firealarms have been going off regularily without there being any fire to the point that my roommates an I don't even take them seriously anymore. If one day there was an actual fire none of us would leave in time because we've gotten so desensitized to it. That's what I'm worried about the most. For student housing I feel like it's pretty expensive I only live here as an international student for this one semester and for that it's fine but never in my life could I afford this for a longer period of time.
Great experience especially for a first year student would live here again :)
I lived here for my first year of university, it’s directly opposite the Ulster university belfast campus so it’s convenient, the staff are always smiling and happy to help
Great place to live while goikg to university very friendly staff
I have lived here for 2 years now and I made a lot of friends not just my flat mates. People from around the building. The staff are so friendly.
The living spaces are excellent and the kitchen is perfect for all my needs; and the location is especially useful for when i need to go to university.
I am incredibly sad to be leaving GPS after three years, as I have had the best experience living here even through the pandemic. I cannot fault the staff in GPS, all of the receptionists are so genuine and caring, you can approach them about anything and they are willing to help. I have had multiple maintenance issues throughout my stay, and they are solved instantly and professionally. I think that all the facilities are fantastic, including on-site laundry, recycling centre, bike storage, art, cinema and social spaces. I personally have participated in a few of them and it is a great way to make friends. It is situated right across from the Ulster Belfast Campus and walking distance from the city centre, shops and bars and restaurants. It is a prime location, with great value when you compare it to student houses in the Belfast area. I cannot recommend GPS enough, if you are looking for somewhere to stay for your student journey, look no more!
The wifi can just turn off sometimes but it’s fine most of the time. The activities organised are all really good just hard to get to know people at.
I can't fault my experience here. The staff couldn't be friendlier and the atmosphere couldn't be better. I've loved my time and home at GPS!
Brilliant Accommodation!, third year staying here and made great friends. The team are very helpful and always willing to help.
Great Patrick street is a very welcoming place with great staff. I arrived not knowing anyone but now have made great friends here.
Great Patrick street is a welcoming and homely place. The staff couldn’t do more to help out and are very friendly.
Receptionists are so friendly and helpful. It’s a really comfortable space with loads of events on throughout the year. I was nervous about moving in but I couldn’t be more thankful for my flatmates who I met when I first arrived. Couldn’t recommend more
I have enjoyed living in Great Patrick Street throughout all years of my studies. I'm sad it's coming to an end. GPS was my home for 3 years and I can't imagine a better place to stay. Great rooms with great facilities. Amazing social spaces and very friendly and always helpful staff. And the location is spot on. Across from my campus and 2 minutes away from the city centre! GPS is so fun to live in!
Have booked here twice couldn’t ask for a better accommodation
Great patrick st, I have always enjoyed my staying in the student roost. I have stayed for two academic years. I loved the staff and the social activities!!
I have really enjoyed my stay at Great Patrick Street the past 3 years, the staff are incredibly welcoming and always willing to help with any issues. Good facilities and social spaces which are great for hosting events like Halloween parties and other seasonal get togethers. The bedrooms are spacious with good under-bed storage space, double bed, and nice bathroom. I stayed in an en-suite room in my 1st year and upgraded to a studio room for my final 2 years and found both rooms to be of decent quality. The building is well maintained with regular cleaning in social spaces and hallways, and I always felt safe and secure in the building. The location is convenient too, with Ulster University being literally just across the road from GPS, with a quick walk to shops in town and closeness to clubs, pubs and bars for great nights out. I couldn’t have picked a better place to stay during my time at uni as GPS felt like a second home, thanks to the friendly staff and the building itself.
All the staff at GPS are so helpful. So excited to move in in the coming weeks and get to meet everyone and live in this amazing building.
Best place I've lived in for university over four years, staff are friendly and helpful, spaces are clean and work perfectly, bedrooms are spacious and perfect. Loved living here! The facilities are honestly perfect, location is amazing and the weekly activities and events were great for making friends.
Really enjoyed my stay at student roost. Great staff, clean operation and quality amenities.
Problems throughout the stay - 3 months with a broken oven that took 2 months to get anyone to do anything to fix it and no refund or alternative during the time it was broken - unreasonable manager not allowing removal of weights from the gym area to borrow. whenever it is sitting there unused due to the quarantine. - no offer to end stay early due to the quarantine or refund. - Kitchen Inspections that are far too harsh on each flat (as if they are incentivised to penalise) - cost is exorbitant compared to other living arrangements in belfast - the smoke alarms are far too sensitive being set of regularly often in the middle of the night by cooking going building wide and either causing people to ignore them or clearing out a whole building just to then have everyone walk back in 2 mins later - centrally controlled heating combined with construction noise leads to a low level of human comfort within the building environment -proximity to active construction site (noise and vibrations
Hi, thank you for your review. To address one of your points, we do have a revised cancellation policy in light of recent events which can be found here. There is an option for ending your tenancy early. I'm sorry that you find the fire alarms an interuption but they are of utmost importance to the safety of our residents and building and are tested regularly to ensure working order. Regarding communal weights remaining in our on-site gym, this is a shared space and we do not permit residents taking shared resources to their room as this would be unfair to our other residents who may wish to use them. We can confirm also that staff are certainly not incentivised during kitchen or room inspections and if a room fails inpection it is due to the cleaning fees that we will need to pay due to the damage caused. I hope this addresses some of your concerns and thank you for staying with us.
the halls are nice and most of the staff are friendly but the halls are just far far far too dear and the prices jumped for next year. instead of giving discounts for referals ect just reduce the rent. get rid of the circuit laundry as they are a rip off and have a reputation for being imposible to work with (money often doesnt transfer on to the card then when talking to coustomer services they tell you "its your problem not mine") flat inspections should not be fortnightly everyone here is an adult stop treating them like children that need to be checked up on all the time.
Everything is great here but there could be a few things that could be improved. The noise factor is a problem if you’re a light sleeper. The weekends are when it’s really bad because students will come back late at night talking loudly and carousing in the hallway. I even have a person who skateboard’s down the hall. I think a person doing hall monitoring around 12-2 would help. Lastly my blinds don’t work. The chain has broken 3 times and it took 3 months to get someone to fix them and then it broke the next day. Another maintenance man/women should be hired to help out Dean. Otherwise, location and staff are great!
Student roost GPS isnt cheap but its such a great and easy place to live and the staff make it even better!
Studio silver was really not worth the price. You can get an 2bed appt for such money. With very weird "window behind the corner" setting, it's always so dark, that you just never see without the artificial light. Smaller than you would guess from the picture. 190x120cm bed is definitely not for 2 people. Very noisy. Studios are just next to the elevators, on the bussiest spot of the floor. All the students go around in the corridor, shouting and you can hear everything (clusters actually have extra inside corridor, so paradoxically, they are much quieter then studios, which are sharing the wall directly with the main corridor). Half of the events listed in the calendar are not happening, there are no details about them and if you come down, noone is there. No reasonable study room, only art room. Location between huge streets, very dusty, far from Queens, no bus to go there. Pros: joga, pool and football table, gym, internet, staff.
It’s a really nice place to stay, with great facilities that are always kept to amazing standards. I love the study and TV rooms as it’s nice to get a wee change of scene now and then and those areas are perfect for that. I also love how there’s always activities that you can take part in such as baking or cooking or movie nights!
A perfect set up for every type of student, catering for the quieter ones and also the ones looking for a faster, Uni halls experience. Staff always on hand to help too makes a big difference. Only criticism would be that the TV reception in my room is extremely bad and needs repaired somehow.
Great Patrick street is great for multiple reasons; firstly the location is central to everything and it’s also right across the road to Ulster’s Belfast campus, the staff are always friendly and puts you in a good mood, and finally the accommodation is great value for money as the facilities are top notch and comfortable. I think Great Patrick street is where its at when it comes to accommodation.
When I first arrived at Roost, I was warmly welcomed by the staff. They even helped me bring my luggage in my room! After I've accommodated myself, I went downstairs to take a look around and was surprisingly satisfied with the social spaces. We have a gym (it sure helps to get in shape i swear!), we have pools and fuseball, and even a cinema room! I've never had that in any other of my accommodation. I would definitely recommend The Roost. The only cons I'd say is the noise... It seems like the walls are thin because I can hear everything my roommate is saying when on the phone or in the corridor. But besides that, the staff, the spaces, and even the location, it's really great!
Restricted heating and awkward WiFi
Not many strong faults however will not be returning due to issues faced staying here- not 100% worth it for the price
Overall, a highly welcoming experience with attentive and friendly staff that are ready to help out at any time. I enjoy living at the heart of Belfast so much, that I decided to rebook next year!
Very good place to live! All the staff are lovely only downside is the cleaners dont clean the kitchens
Really great. Help settling in with loads of organised activities. Staff always on hand to help or have a chat to. Facilities are second to none with great WiFi and the kitchen is well equipped
Really safe environment with the most helpful friendliest staff that constantly go out of their way to make our time as enjoyable as possible
Friendly staff who would always go out of their way to help in any situation
I think the location is amazing and easy to get to university and back. But I feel the safety of the student is NOT taken into consideration. ESPECIALLY by the Night Owls. Very disappointed and don’t feel safe sleeping at night.
Very nice and modern accommodation.
The accommodation is pretty new and good quality. Walls are thicker than the last student accommodation I stayed in. Would be perfect if I didn't live in front of a construction site with so much noise operating 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Makes it difficult to get fresh air with so much dust coming in from the site. Social spaces are good but when someone is using the cinema room, no one else will dare go in tbh, making it hard to find a time for yourself to use it.
The staff at reception are so lovely and helpful. After two years living there they feel like friends. The facilities are great and the rooms are a good size. I go to uni across the road and it is SO handy.
Very friendly and welcoming reception! It‘s always nice to come back „home“ and see them smiling. I love the gym, it‘s super clean. And respect for the big program that you offer;)
Friendly staff but not a great in flat vibe as cleaning Isn't shared evenly
Very friendly staff and great halls! Right across the road from the Belfast campus and a large kitchen and good space in the bedrooms!
Very comfortable place to live , location couldnt get any better (other than an overhead walkway to the uni joined to the building, which would be amazing). You get alot for your money however , most lower income students would not opt to live here as its simply more than student finance covers. I'm lucky enough to have parents that have put away savings for my education. Its as hotel-like as student accomodation gets, with staff on site 24/7. I really wish the halls were monitored better at night , to say theres been more than a few nights of broken sleep is an understatement.Itd be great if staff could keep an eye on cctv and if cctv had audio, or if staff actually checked up on the floors regularly throughout the night. Im honestly greatful that the courtyard is now locked up at night as this was an awful source of noise echoing up the building last year.Cleaning could honestly be better , i was told my room would be cleaned over summer and returned to crumbs and mould in the fridge
The room is amazing and the social spaces are great. The staff are so lovely, night staff are great and I always feel safe in the building. However with the prices going up I won’t be able to afford let alone justify the price to stay here.
Staff are friendly and always there to welcome you after a long day of studying with a friendly smile or hello. There is something everyone can enjoy at the Great Patrick Street’s social events from plant potting to gaming to running. This is also good if you’re keen to meet new friends in the building or have travelled far to live in Belfast in need of company. The Roost also provides fast and reliable WiFi which is a breeze to set up with your own personal account and thus no need for forgetting passwords or check ins from staff. If you find yourself bored or needing a space to chill out or let off some steam from a busy day of uni there’s plenty of room in the roost with sofa spaces, pool tables, an art room, study rooms, cinema room and the gym to keep you entertained. This is beneficial because you don’t feel bored in your room or living room as you would in a typical student house. The location is also great for shopping with key supermarkets just a minute walk away.
I've lived in multiple forms of accommodation over the years, Student Roost at GPS is truly the best place I've lived and I've already rebooked for next year. The staff are approachable and amazing, the events held are always fun and engaging, and the social spaces are varied and perfect. Couldn't be happier here.
Nice place, friendly staff, average gym which would be improved with a barbell and bumper plates.
The rooms are amazing and the building is incredibly well run
Personally, the facilities provided for the price is very reasonable. WiFi is excellent and the social spaces for us are great. :)
The staff are all very social and welcoming
The only thing that I could complain about is the rent price, which isn’t covered by the minimum maintenance loan.
Too expensive and builders outside drilling from 6.30am however staff how amazing
Great halls but really over priced, and walls are v thin
Our halls allow any stranger who does not live in the building to enter. The night staff that they have on is honestly not good. They only have 1 on per night and when a situation occurs it isn’t handled very well with the person who is on.
Place is really nice and warm. Although it could be cleaner
It’s absolutely brilliant and the people and staff are so friendly - the building is quite new so everything is clean and tidy. Love it here!
It’s a really lovely place to live , the rooms are nice , the staff are friendly and the facilities are great. I had no problems when I first moved in but many of my friends have had issues such as showers blocking and rooms not being cleaned before they moved in and when complaining to management it has took over 2 weeks for them to do anything.
Amazing facilities, very modern and clean, however quite pricy but well worth it. Not too strict too
The staff and other residents are so nice here. There is a real feeling of home here. The facilities such as the bedrooms, kitchens, social spaces, gym and study rooms are very nice and comforting too. Would always recommend.
Absolutely brilliant with amazing 24/7 reception staff. Will be staying for all of my uni career.
I love living here! All the staff are absolutely amazing and are great to talk to, and the rooms are so lovely and well insulated
As a Student Roost Resident of Great Patrick Street, I am happy to be back. It's all-inclusive especially the wifi and the bills - such a great value! Having a gym in the student hall, it is super handy because you do not need to travel far as it is included in your rent. The social spaces & study room is always clean. I love hanging out with my friends to watch a movie and play Xbox - the student roost, have everything that you need! The halls have a lot of activities, such as cooking classes and yoga. The staff are very helpful, friendly and if you ever need anything, don't ever hesitate to ask. Living in Student Roost is a safe and secure living. The staff is always present 24/7 in the reception if you ever need anything. The location of the Great Patrick Street is very handy as it is very close to the city centre & to my university which is the Ulster University, Belfast. It is only 2 mins away, which is why I chose to live here. I recommend students to live here. CHOOSE G. P. S!
