Ulster University
Queen's University Belfast (QUB)
St Mary's University College
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The building is new, convenient, but not soundproof.
The only upside is that they provide washer and dryer in your living area, however if you are a student at Queen’s, just find other accommodation that is closer as the local bus is not really good. Having maintenance people coming into your apartment every week without fail and noises from pubs opposite are very normal, so definitely wouldn’t recommend if you like peace and quiet. Area is shady at night and I can’t wait to move out once my lease ends.
I have really enjoyed the experience staying at Alma place, in the heart of the city with plenty to do both in and out of the accommodation as well as many social events hosted by management and any problems I have, solved as soon as possible!
Just the room is a little bit narrow wu
had a great and enjoyable experience especially for my first year, close distance to the uni which made it even better
my experience has been great. met some cool people but having mainatnce issues takes forever and it can be dirty. plus i hate the way its a hotel as i feel unsafe. i was grabbing a hot chocolate from the machine in my pjs at 2am and some random hotel guest who was an older man was flirting with me and trying to find out what flat i was in.
It is a nice place for accommodation, not far from city centre and lots of social activities to enjoy. Meeting new people and new places to visit
This accommodation has been fantastic as a 4th year student and I would highly recommend it!
Alma place is a great place to live, great location not strict about friends staying or coming over. However i think alma could do a lot more for the price of it for example hosting more social events at the start of the year especially for first years or international students to make friends. they could also keep the bin chutes open then more people would empty their bins more and therefore not getting fly infestations lol. A cleaner would also help even just wants a month to do communal areas eg kitchen and hoover hallway i feel like this would definitely make alma a lot more appealing to new students and especially for people staying on an extra year
Lovely, sociable place to live with really friendly staff
It's an overall good place but not very suitable for Queens student because it's pretty far away from the campus, although the bus station is just around the corner, it's still a bit of inconvenience, but overall i would recommend it if travel is not an issue for you.
Good experience for living here
Quite central location, especially useful for Ulster Uni. Accommodation is good quality. Social events talked up beforehand but I’ve only ever been informed of one - Chinese New Year - and people couldn’t find it happening.
Its good value for money, Social aspect is more poor due to the way university students hide in their rooms. I think more consistent events would be good
Pretty good, just some flaws. Room was advertised with weekly cleaning but spaces have never been cleaned within the flat. Moved into flat on 27th January and got charged £605 (a full months rent) for January which is extremely harsh
Its a good experience so far. It is you living on your own almost in a hotel at times
Had a good experience for the past year. Only downside is it is not maintained properly especially the common area. Apart from that amenities provided are fantastic.
Great experience living at Alma place, really nice facilities and staff making it a comfortable place to live in an ideal location.
Perfect location, too expensive however
A great place to stay, the building throughout is spacious and modern, there are often events on with free food or prizes and plenty of places to hang out or study.
Alma Place is in a great area, very close to the city centre for shopping and Cathedral Quarter which has a range of amazing bards.
Ideal location, luxury student accommodation,
Great place to live: convenient location for work and uni, quite too for study but also lively if you like to be sociable on occasions
One of the best student accommodations in Belfast
The staff are personable and friendly. It has pleasant social spaces
I love living at Alma as I have made friends that I will hold on to for life, the social areas have been utilised plenty for myself and others and I’m so raging I’m going home for summer!!
Comfortable and exciting experience. Very nice staff easily help you settle in
Overall fab place to stay, very clean and staff are very friendly and go above and beyond to help and also fix any problems efficiently and to a high standard
I enjoyed my stay and have recommended to friends
Overall good experiences but I feel that I'm still paying high rent
When I came to this accommodation I knew what I was getting would be top of the line and I am happy that I stayed here.
Brilliant place to stay, definitely enjoyed my stay here
Excellent location, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere
The apartment is modern, comfortable and clean, rooms are spacious and comfortable. With easy access to social spaces.
Great experience, social spaces great way to meet new people, especially if it’s your first year coming up. Very central to Ulster university and lots of shops surrounding. Would definitely recommend.
Just amazing services all around, if you're going to Ulster University, you couldn't have a better location.
Staff are lovely the social spaces are great and the rooms and kitchens are amazing it’s the first student accommodation that I’ve been in that has two hobs two ovens a washer and dryer this place is amazing
Excellent, peaceful environment, co-operative and helpful peoples, and all best facilities for us and they don't let us feel lonely from our native country.

Great experience at alma place
Amazing accommodation, short walk from uni and great facilities. Can’t wait to live here next year
Brilliant modern accommodation very close to campus. Great events and facilities for everyone! Feels like a home away home.
Excellent staff, lovely building.
Alma place is a great student accommodation, there are so many social spaces to enjoy and it is such a aesthetically pleasing place to be living at. It is also in a very convenient place as an ulster student as the walk takes 3 minutes at most.
I've made most of my friends in Belfast here. We always hang out in the basement too which saves money and its a great place to have guests. Great bunch of people that run the place. Especially Daniel.
Best place to live in starting of your carrier in Belfast. Here manager is too supportive especially Daniel he listen and assist in every queries over in Alma place. He provide best support in during room allocation and provide every week some thing different to stay over here. Thanks and regards Sumit Sharma Room no 106
