The campus is great, its a small university compared to most which really appealed to me. The parking isn't great but again compared to other uni's its brilliant - free parking! It's in a nice quite location - no having to drive into/through the city centre. The little starbucks in the atrium is great and the bistro is always busy. The campus itself is relatively easy to navigate with it being just one site and you can get from building to building without having to leave shelter when its raining. I couldn't be happier attending this uni, it's perfect for me!

An amazing place with amazing people. Support is always given and I love it here
Staff here are very kind and helpful. Classes are entertaining and informative. There is a lot of stuff that goes on here so it is never boring.
I have made amazing uni friends for life
My time at Newman was definitely impacted by covid but i cannot recommend the uni enough for their hard work in organising around this and being extremely helpful during my time here. The only downside was the lecturers taking ages to reply to emails, that might have only being my lecturers but sometimes i would be waiting 1+ weeks to get replys.
Excellent university easy to navigate around the campus and efficient to get to
Newman University is a very inclusive university. The lecturing quality in my subject is exceptional (although, like in any university or educational establishment, I am aware this may not always be the case). Success is celebrated and issues are supported. There is a very supportive community feel with phenomenal student support services in place, should you need them. There isn’t a lot to grumble about once you get used to the small environment which is often suited to most. With it being a small university, in an outer-city location, there isn’t a lot to do which is not aided with the limited societies that are offered here. However, they’re are opportunities to start more societies if desired.
excellent university, friendly staff and students. Get loads of help with work through student support. Very easy to follow work given by staff.
My experience at Newman has been wonderful so far as I have started in January and I really enjoy my time and the support given is fantastic as they support you as best as they can
Newman is a friendly and community spirited university that goes out of its way to help everyone.
Newman has lovely facilities and very helpful lecturers. The SU is great to go to for advice and help.
newman is a great university I will recommend every student go to newman University newman University is helping me to achieve my goal
Newman is a great university to study at and very welcoming and caring of all it's students.
Hardly ever at uni due to the noise in accommodation and was told to move if I wanted it to be quiet however I requested a quiet landing whilst applying. I was also told to move into accommodation where I didn’t like the people and got bullied.
The type of the University that truly looks after the students and making sure they receive all support they need! So lucky to be the part of this amazing community!
Newman University is a small campus, however that makes it unique. Unlike larger campus’s you get to know now just your lectures on a personal level and that includes other staff members, therefore asking for support or help isn’t daunting. Due to this there is a really close community feel. I am currently finishing my first year and im so excited to continue my studies and get involved with the university
Honestly such a caring and inclusive uni never let you down.
Nice! I enjoy it all the time since I’ve arrived here!
The University does what it needs to do however, a lot of the information on assignments is conflicting from what each module tutor says and the marking of work is different as per different tutors, meaning there is an unfair marking system.
I love being there ,everyone’s kind and supportive
As a mature student the societies are not that relevant to me. Campus is always clean but the WiFi is quite unreliable. Apart from that I would recommend going to Newman to anyone.
I absolutely love how close-knit and homely our campus feels. It’s always so easy to find someone you know, or recognise to talk to and if not, people get back to you so quickly. The small class sizes make it ideal for learning, and I’m always able to contact my lecturers if I need support. The SU are great at being present and getting students involved wherever they can!
Excellent experience. Staff fully supportive and approachable. Lots of student support workshops. Love Newman that much I’ve applied to do my masters there too!
One of the best unis in Birmingham, staff are extremely supportive with work and teaching. A very friendly environment to go and study at, you will not regret studying here. Absolutely amazing!! My 3 years went flying here, but I had the BEST 3 years of my life. No regrets! You will definitely enjoy your time here, so many facilities available and different courses. You not just a number here, you are recognised by the staff!!
When I started in September I was curious and looking to join some student clubs and societies however not many for me to really join. Facilities are really good. The WiFi isn't great. I normally have to turn my WiFi off when I need to connect to my bank to move money or to read emails and just use my data.
As someone who previously attended a different university, there is a clear difference in Newman to others. The size of Newman allows you to get to know your lecturers which I feel is a positive point. I feel majorly supported in contrast to other universities.
All the improvements in the university I have encountered since my last period of study here in 2010/11 are impressive and make the campus much better place to be and study.
Underrepresented student union with poor management. Good uni aside from that. Too many visiting lecturers.
Overall a good university with excellent resources and staff.
Really good facilities - a gym, resourceful library with presentation booths for practise and example dissertations, a Starbucks. Sells really cheap meals in the cafe. Lecturers on my course are all really helpful, understanding and lovely! The small class sizes mean you get more help and attention than you would from bigger universities. Would highly recommend this university!
The facilities are great and the career support is outstanding and I am really enjoying my time at Newman due to all then support they provide.
The university is a very good uni they have small classes and they teach you better .
Newman University is an good, small, university . The classes are more personal so questions can be answered. The campus is compact and easy to navigate.
Great student support at this university. Library staff go above and beyond to help.
Newman University us one of the most helpful and brilliant unis there are in Birmingham, not saying this because I go to that Uni! But because the support ranges from finance to library to lecturers etc. Everyone’s happy to help you!
It is a welcoming and friendly university with an engaging social atmosphere. the classes are excellent with extremely well taught lectures and staff are always ready to help. living in halls for the past 3 years has been a wonderful experience and the accomodation staff are quick and thorough when dealing with any issues. security is 24/7 and always able to solve a situation. The student union are always communicating with students about different events on, any issues surrounding the local area like bus strikes, and are happy to have an suggestions about societies.
So much support from the library, lecturers, staff. The foundation year was amazing and a great insight to your degree that you’ve chosen. Newman has amazing facilities with a spacious library, a Starbucks on campus, lecture rooms, if you don’t have a computer they let you borrow a computer from their library. I also had loads of support from lecturers , SpLD support for struggling with essays.
Great support services, staff are lovely and helpful. Social side is great as its mixed ages. I love it there!
The teachers and the campus is amazing. Unfortunately, the accommodation is overpriced and old. If you’re a disabled student who needs accessible accommodation, you’ve to pay for either a one bed flat or a room in the new accommodation, which is way more expensive. The student Union is doing an okay job, however they failed to address the cost of living crisis. Other than that, it’s a great university, amazing teachers and very helpful staff.
I am very happy to be at student at this university
Newman is an amazing place to learn, the lecturers are amazing at what they do and teach. It is so welcoming and very diverse, accommodates for everyone including those with disabilities.
A great university that does there best to support students throughout the academic year and the lecturers are both supportive and approachable!
Very nice little community! Loved my time spent here
Very good uni! Smaller so more efficient teaching!
My experience as a mature student on a PGCE course was mixed. Tutors very friendly and knowledgeable. However, IT and finding out information about who does what and when is lacking in clarity. The actual training wasn't very organised in school and very much a mixed experience. ad hoc would describe it perfectly. Heart in the right place but its a business and to be fair if I'd have known what my training would have been like, I would have gone elsewhere.
amazing university. Lectures are extremely helpful and friendly. Easy to fit in & learn
really enjoyed my first year , recieved alot of support from the staff and student union , was very helpful
Waste of time and money. IT services don't want to know. Tutors telling you to try harder, even tough you told them many times that you have problem with accessing on-line text-books.
Everything is delivered over confusing website. When many students complained, many times that it is confusing. Subject tutors are only laughing in your face that it is well organised and what is the problem. The problem is that I can't access my course materials or have to spend hours trying to hunt down what I need. Nobody have time for such nonsense. It should be as easy as opening a paper based text-book, otherwise it is complete nonsense. IT Support would do with training on customer service. When you get there and it is busy they will shovel you a piece of papers that supposed to explain how to fix your problem and nobody will be even interested in looking at your need twice. Unnecessary layers of complexity with IT systems that make it impossible to work with with certain requirements or devices. Teaching course in fact is a course in bureaucracy. Tutors won't help you. Waiting for you to figure it out all yourself. Waste of time and money.
Newman University is a perfect community, student-led university in Birmingham with an excellent library, the students' union is continuing to develop and grow with feedback from the students. The lecturers are all friendly and approachable, by email and regular 1:1 meetings.
Newman is a great choice for your degree. You have the opportunity to develop personally as well as academically, you will receive 5 star student support and careers service at newman. If you really want to learn and excel in your studies and contribute to lectures and engage in discussions then newman will suit you!
The university itself is useful. However the library facilities are lacking. Nights out and nights at the bar are good but disappointing when they close at midnight
