Very nice building to live in with modern flats and large rooms. Had quite a few faults with the flat and some were resolved quickly but others took longer. Great access to all the facilities you could need. Would definitely recommend the building.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Quite expensive compared to other accommodations available and not very close to the university. Living next to the ridge is a big bonus and the social life is great.
Modern and clean building. Maintenance are quick with requests. In the middle of Ranmoor, close to Ridge and Laundry space. Social and friendly. Only issue really is the Wifi disconnects a lot, so you end up using your own data half the time.
Hello and thank you for your your lovely review, we are very grateful. It's great to read you have been happy with your accommodation. Residence Life hold loads of events during the year and many of these are free to attend. All bills are included in the rent and this even includes insurance and laundry !. Sorry to hear about the WiFi issues. Any maintenance issues can be reported to the Customer Services team acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk Best wishes, Sharon
Very nice building to live in with modern flats and large rooms. Had quite a few faults with the flat and some were resolved quickly but others took longer. Great access to all the facilities you could need. Would definitely recommend the building.
Hello and thank you for your your lovely review, we are very grateful. It's great to read you have been happy with your accommodation. It is a great introduction to university life. The Customer Services team are happy to assist with any maintenance issues acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk Best wishes, Sharon
nice and modern accommodation but it is a far walk to campus. there is easy access to the gym and the ridge is a nice social space. maintenance respond quickly but don’t always solve the problem very well. cleaning to a high standard
Hello and thank you for your review, we are very grateful. It's great to read such positive comments. The Ridge fitness suite is a great facility open to all students on campus at no extra cost. The commute to main campus is about 25 minutes which is considerably closer than many universities. It's an easy walk along main, well lit roads. The Customer Services team are happy to assist with any maintenance issues acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk All communal areas are cleaned every 2 weeks. Students know when the cleaners will be coming in so you can clear surfaces in the kitchen. They don't clean bedrooms though !. We do provide cleaning equipment every flat/house. Best wishes, Sharon
Lovely accomodation, has everything you could need. Would recommend, Windgather is best location in ranmoor
Hello and thank you for your review. It's lovely to read such positive comments !. Best wishes, Sharon
It’s in a lovely location with lots of greenery, which i really appreciated. The kitchens in some flats like mine (6 person) do run a bit small though compared to other flats of similar sizes in endcliffe.
Hello and thank you for your review of Windgather accommodation, we really appreciate it. The Ranmoor/Endcliffe site is in a beautiful area of Sheffield surrounded by lots of trees, parks and green open spaces. With 6 people sharing a kitchen we appreciate that things can get a bit cramped. We do advise incoming students not to bring too many kitchen items as if everyone brings a wok, steamer etc things get crowded pretty quickly !. Bring the essentials and if you find you need more things there are loads of places to get things including an Ikea. You could even split the cost with a flatmate and share. Best wishes, Sharon
Great room perfect for studying and big kitchen for cooking and socialising
Thank you for the amazing review! We're so glad to hear you've enjoyed your time with us this year. We'd love to welcome you back for your second and third year - we'll even freeze your rent so you can continue to pay the 2024/25 rates (alongside some other amazing deals!) You can read more about our returner accommodation here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/returners/rebook202425Many thanks, Oaklyn
The place is generally really nice, there’s a lot of greenery and having cleaning staff means the flats are generally kept clean. However maintenance is generally quite slow or doesn’t make a really effort to fix problems and the WiFi is unreliable for some applications and unusable for others.
Thank you for your review! We're sorry to hear that you've not been satisfied with our maintenance team - as you can imagine there are thousands of students across our campuses and sometimes the team needs to prioritise the urgent requests first! You can always report maintenance issues directly to customer services (acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk) who will endeavour to solve any problems as soon as possible. Because of the population of students, there's also thousands of devices all connecting to the WiFi at once, so it can become slow sometimes. We'd recommend popping to customer services and grabbing an ethernet cable, and these can provide a really fast and stable connection to your laptop or computer! Many thanks, Oaklyn
People say ranmoor isn’t as fun as endcliffe but in my opinion it’s very fun and very social. If there’s any issues maintenance is quick to fix it. Overall very good value for money
Thank you for your review! There's a strange idea that, as you've mentioned, Endcliffe is more lively than Ranmoor, but it's completely dependant on the new cohorts of students that arrive every year! Every September there's thousands of new arrivals to our accommodation sites so we never know where the liveliest spots will be! It's great to hear our maintenance team have helped you in a timely manner too. Any and all maintenance issues can be reported directly to customer services (acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk) who will always do their best to get things sorted for you as soon as possible! We'd love to welcome you back for your second and third year, we'll even freeze your rent prices so you can keep paying the 2024/25 rates (alongside some other fantastic offers)! You can read more here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/returners/rebook202425Many thanks, Oaklyn
Good location, about a 30 minute walk to the Students' Union. Friendly staff and good cleaners.
Thank you so much for the review, we'll pass on your praise to our hard working team who help maintain our properties! We hope you continue to enjoy your time with us!Kind regards, Oaklyn
The area around Windgather is really nice, liads of greenery. The building is modern and well kept. The only improvement for me would be better use of the spcial space.
Thank you for your review, we're so glad you've enjoyed living in Windgather this year! We're grateful for the feedback too - we're always looking for new ways to develop what we have to offer! Make sure to check out all the amazing Residence Life events that are held across all our accommodation sites throughout the year too! https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/residence-life#events Kind regards, Oaklyn
Maintenance team left bleach on my floor after removing about half of the mould in my room.
Thank you for your review, we're sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience with our maintenance team. Any maintenance issues can be reported to the customer services team (acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk) who are happy to help with any issues you may have. Kind regards, Oaklyn
The accommodations great with wonderful people and all of the facilities you’d ever need. Would definitely recommend to prospective students.
We're so glad to hear you've had a fantastic time with your flatmates this year and that you're satisfied with the facilities! We'd love to welcome you back next year for returner accommodation, where we can freeze your rent prices and offer some amazing deals alongside it! (You can even request to live with the same flatmates!) You can see more about rebooking here; https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/returners/rebook202425Many thanks, Oaklyn
It’s been good I think Ethernet is amazing but the wifi isn’t very good.
Thank you for your review, we make sure there are ethernet connections available for more stable connections as I'm sure you can imagine there are thousands of devices connecting to the WiFi everyday across our accommodations! This can create a slightly slower connection, so we'd always recommend bringing an ethernet cable with you for your stay, however if you don't have one our customer services team are happy to provide ethernet cables if you need them! Kind regards, Oaklyn
Lovely place to live very close to everything and very convenient
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we really appreciate it. Windgather is a great block within the Ranmoor/Endcliffe student village. It's close to the shopping area of Broomhill which has supermarkets, cafes, bars and lots of fabulous charity shops !. It also has chemists, hairdressers etc. so it's a great facility to have close by. There is also the village store on the Endcliffe side for any essentials. Best wishes, Sharon
Easy to make friends and a good way to settle into living away from home
It's great to hear that you are settling into living away from home well and making friends in your accommodation. Thanks for your review and if you need any help or information whilst living with us, don't hesitate to contact Customer Services :) acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk
Generally good, not a whole lot to do at the ridge though
Thank you for your review, we really appreciate it. The Residence Life team put on lots of events over the year both in The Ridge and The Hub and wherever you live on the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site you are welcome to attend. Most of the events are free as well which is a bonus !. You can book events on-line and there are loads of events from tote bag decorating to chocolate tasting. The Ridge is also the home of our fantastic fitness suite which is free to use for students living on the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site. Best wishes, Sharon
windgather is a nice accommodation, building itself and utilities are great, but slightly inconvenient how far it is from classrooms
Thank you for your review! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying the building and amenities at Windgather Apartments! I understand the distance from campus can feel a bit far, but being in the Ranmoor & Endcliffe community - the largest student community in Sheffield - comes with its own perks. With Broomhill just on your doorstep, you’ve got a great selection of cafes, bars, and shops nearby, adding plenty of variety and convenience close to home. If there’s ever anything else you need or more feedback you’d like to share, feel free to reach out to our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. We’re here to help! Danny 🧔🏻
Good halls, don't listen to the rubbish that Ranmoor is awful, it's the same as Endcliffe just a little smaller and isn't full of recluses. In fact, my entire flat applied for Endcliffe and so are all sociable.
Biggest kitchen ever and its quieter than Endcliffe but other than that there's no benefits! Its further to walk, all my friends are in Endcliffe, the maintenance and cleaning staff are pretty bad - its 3 weeks into term and one of the cupboard doors in the kitchen is still not attached to the cupboard! I didn't even know the cleaners had visited! There's never anyone at reception so god forbid if you need any help!!
quite expensive but a great laugh
Value for money - It is more expensive than accomodation at other universities but it's of a good standard. Spacious, maintenance on demand, cleaners once a fortnight, water whenever you want it, heating whenever you want it. Location - It is a distance from the student union, but its not so bad. And it is really just the same amount of distance as the other halls (Endcliffe). And if you don't fancy the walk, buses, in my opinion, are good value for money. Hall Management - Like I said, maintenance do regular checks that everything is working, and if something does happen to go wrong, call and they'll will be round in no time. Security is also very good. Cleaning - The cleaners come once a fortnight and do a fantastic job. Social spaces - The Ridge is a nice space but no one really use it - most people congregate at each others flats. Social Experience - Endcliffe student village is said to be the place to be but I have had no less social experience here in Ranmoor
