All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I have had a great stay at the property. It is very close to NTU and the Victoria Centre. The place is quaint and has good amenities.
Really comfortable place to live especially as a medical student , it’s not too loud & things are attended too once reported
It's a great location in the city centre with a wonderful common space. The studio rooms are modern and private giving it the perfect balance for any student!
I have been staying at The Nest for my final year of university and it’s been a great accommodation. The facilities are great. If I have any problems or questions then management are quick to respond and solve the problem. Overall I would say this is a great place to spend a year or two whilst you study. Would definitely recommend.
Hi, Thanks for the lovely feedback and we are glad you have enjoyed staying at The Nest for your final year. Hopefully there hasnt been many questions or problems but thanks for highlighting the prompt response we give and the fact we sort any issues out. Thanks
Great and convenient location and great property! Really short walk away from the city centre, a bit closer to Trent University than University of Nottingham. Really nice common room.
Love the accommodation, very nice rooms and have never had too many problems and if there have been they’re have been swiftly fixed, the location is perfect for studying at NTU
Super convenient location, right by center of town. The Nest is very quiet in terms of social experience but that could be blamed on covid. Internet super fast & also great for gaming. My room gets very cold in the morning so the radiator is constantly on. 0 fuss about having friends over, feels like complete independency here.
Lovely, clean student accommodation, only a 5 min walk down to the city ! Loads of privacy and a safe home.
Very well located, but maintenance could be better as the lift has been not functioning for weeks.
Really lovely management with amazing communication and will fix things if and when you need very quickly. Ideal location for both uni of Nottingham and Trent! Rooms are spacious and furnished nicely. Would recommend!
The nest is very modern and a good accommodation to live at. It is local to the city centre. Close to a lot of useful stores. Very close to NTU city campus. There has been word about using their extra space for some social facilities but this has not yet been confirmed. I believe It would be better value for money if there was a gym & extra study space firstly. The rooms are very nice and very modern but at the same time they are slightly small. It would be great to have more closet space as it is limited to a rail and a deep shelf. Overall, I am happy with my stay at the nest and I do recommend it especially if the extra space is properly utilised.
