Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Relatively cheap for studios so close to the centre and a 10-15 minute walk from NTU. It wasn't clean when I moved in, I had to scrub crusty food off the floor, but otherwise a nice space. Staff are really friendly.

Maid Marian house is easily on of the worst accommodations available in Nottingham the building has gaps that allow pigeons to enter rooms and the maintenance have done nothing to address this health hazard. Another issue is that reception is open for 2 hours at the most inconvenient time on weekdays, making collecting packages and talking to the ONLY staff member available a difficult task . Thirdly the cost to be let back into your accommodation after being locked out is £42 making it easier to sleep outside and hope that the receptionist helps you in the morning/afternoon depending on if she shows up.
Pros: This accommodation has some nice furniture in the rooms, top floor rooms have a nice view of the city and is close to city centre. Cons: The people in charge don't respond for days and just ignore the students. There have been 0 efforts made to create social events in this accommodation. We were promised a pizza party that never happened without any warning resulting in all the tenants gathering in the common room and having to come up with our own plans. The reception is not 24hrs which is unhelpful when it comes to getting parcels or resolving issues. There are many water leaks throughout the building and many tenants complain about water not being warm enough in the shower or their radiators not working properly. In my room one of the cooking hobs stopped working, the sink has had a small leak that hasnt been dealt with yet and the bathroom sink has a whole behind it. The street behind the accommodation is disgusting, dirty and stinks into the rooms.
This place was awful. Stayed here in my first year in the city and got out asap. The window didn't have a proper seal on it for months so I ended up having to buy stick on stuff from poundland to fix it myself, the hot water went out around December and was left like that for like a month and the staff were almost never there. This company was so bad and had such a horrible reputation that they had to rebrand a year or 2 ago. DO NOT STAY IN ANY XERIA BUILDINGS.
Great location, good sized rooms and it was a nice place to live.
Good halls fun people near to school
