Stayed there for my first year, you can honestly get a way better room elsewhere for the price. Rooms are pretty small, basic student room. The location is definitely a 5/5 if your classes are in Jubilee Campus, took me 3mins to get to my classes. It's a catered hall but the food is pretty much trash and unless you have a high tolerance for bad food(hope it gets better).

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Read Southwell Hall Reviews
I have lived in Southwell Hall for a year and except for its location ,which is in proximity to Computer science and Business school ,and the social life , I would not recommend there to anyone. The endless series of fire alarms , unhelpful and careless staff and noisy neighbours can summarize my experience in Southwell.

We are not in central halls, the name of our actual landlord could not be found. We are with Room Guru. David, the landlord, is relatively new to providing student accommodation. He is a lovely landlord and has solved the very few problems we have had very quickly. Fantastic value for money. Although we are a 15 minute walk from uni, he does have houses which are closer. We are in a private house which has been newly renevated throughout, as with all of his properties, to a very high standard.
One of the worst halls on campus, no atmosphere and the rooms feel like you’re in a prison cell. Especially on the ground floor as there are bars on the windows. The walk into uni everyday is also a massive inconvenience. There are free buses but often in the morning they are so busy that you aren’t a guranteed to get a space on the bus. Try and go for a hall on the main campus if possible, it would be a much better experience.
It will be better if it is more spacious. Once you open a suitcase, you basically have to fly around the room because there is no more floor space.
Its alright, met some decent people but overall very tame compared to other halls on main campus. Very strict security too any noise hit with a fine.
Terrible location unless you are studying on Jubilee Campus. Very little social atmosphere due to lack of decent freshers week, any encouragement of social space usage and poor hall design. Very difficult to feel a "community" develop due to very long corridors that are daunting. Rooms very small, can be made to "feel" bigger by moving the bed round but that makes me question why it's not done anyway. Wet rooms are so rubbish it's unbelievable, and lack of space to dry my towels mean getting out of it is pretty rubbish too. Very dark rooms.
Friendly, small hall, but far from main campus and free buses are unreliable. Staff was very friendly. Bar got shut down and the common room is quite basic and small.
incredibly poor wifi however great cleaners
