The Maltings Biography
The Maltings offers sociable yet convenient student accommodation two miles from City Campus. Getting around couldn’t be easier as residents can make use of the number 70, 71 and 53 buses, the Basford tram or their free bus pass. You have plenty of eateries and University buildings within easy reach, including the Students’ Union and Boots Library.
There are plenty of opportunities to meet your neighbours as there are regular events held throughout the year, a common room, a courtyard and a shared kitchen area to cook up a storm with flatmates. If you are looking for something a bit more stimulating, you can attend one of the NTU Talks seminars. To ensure your stay is as hassle-free as possible, there is staff on-site 24/7 and parking is available at an additional charge unless you are a blue badge holder.
There are two room types on offer, a Standard Shared room and an Enhanced Shared room. Standard Shared rooms have single beds and are located in the phase 1 side of the building, whereas the Enhanced Shared rooms have small double beds, and communal areas which are located in the phase 2 side of the building. If you are a mature student or are in need of an accessible room, The Maltings also has rooms for you.

Hi, you can apply for a parking permit for The Maltings at a cost of £199 for the full year. You can apply now by contacting The Maltings residence team and completing an application form and you then pay on your arrival in September. I hope that helps!

Good and reasonably cheap for such a large room - would totally recommend the slightly more expensive rooms as far bigger and better. Only issue is distance to campus but you do get a free bus pass

The accommodation is good, it comes commodities such as a free year buspass, a free uni gym pass and a range of social activities and it's also relatively cheap.

Stayed here for 2 years. It was a great experience, they hold socials in the common room once a week which is great for meeting new people. Also they have an easter egg hunt before the end of term 2.
Good budget experience for a low budget student
I stayed at The Maltings in my first year as it was one of the cheapest accomms and close enough to the city for me (20-30 min by bus+ a 7 min walk). They have 2 common rooms and you can hang out in both, one has a more chill couch area and the other has a more sit down, working area, both with TVs. The accomm was well cleaned weekly (the common spaces in the flats) and there was parking space available. There was always help available with an app where you can flag down issues as well as you could just go up to the desk. There are 2 laundry rooms which you can use but you have to pay, and they keep you mail for you that you can pick up later, which is neat. The flat lighting and corridors in the cheaper phase looks a bit like a prison, but it was fine given the price. I liked the rooms but I always had a relatively small room before. There wer always weekly events that students led for people to hang out so there were always social opportunities if you didn't want to go into the city.

Far from University but by free bus path, it doesn't matter. good and bad in some cases but overall, acceptable due to the money you pay.
The student accommodation is ran by UPP, whom among students are notorious for withholding deposits and charging extortionate prices for minor cosmetic damages. At the end of my tenancy, my whole £250 deposit was withheld and a further £500 was demanded for cosmetic repairs and flat updates. On behalf of all my flat mates at the time, I refused to pay until I had seen proof (in form of formal company invoices) for repair work. The site manager and head staff at the company were not able to fulfil this request. Therefore the charges were dropped. During my next year, I became friends with those living in my old flat and requested I saw the flat. Absolutely no painting work, updates, or changes have been made to corridors or communal areas as stated by the staff. Please be careful with this company and don’t pay for something without proof of the correct price. They pocket the money!
Would highly recommend going to any accommodation apart from this one. If you don't have a choice, definitely go for phase 2 over phase 1. The rooms in phase 1 feel like a prison cell and conveniently they don't post any photos of the rooms from Phase 1 on the website so you naturally assume they're at least somewhat similar. The reception staff were usually quite nice but the security guards were unbearable. They would constantly target our flat for noise at ~10-11pm on weekends, but would do nothing about the people screaming and shouting in the courtyard at 2-3am on weekdays. So much inconsistency it was extremely unprofessional. To top off the ordeal I was charged a ridiculous amount of money for my mattress to be replaced when I'm absolutely certain there was nothing wrong with the mattress when I left. Wifi was pretty fast but unreliable as well, it would drop multiple times a day.
Do not apply here, there are plenty of other options. Staff are rude and accused me of something that someone else did, and then they twisted the story and lied. Didn’t even get an apology. Scammed me with my deposit refund, claimed there was a stain on the mattress but I never spilled anything on the bed. Didn’t notice any stains since the colour and pattern of the bed makes it look like there’s no stain.
Stayed here for 2 years and absolutely loved it. As an international student, I felt very taken care of and the staff were all lovely, helpful and very accommodating to any problems I had. One of the cheapest student accommodations at NTU and the free bus pass sealed the deal for me. You can use the free bus pass on any Nottingham City Transport bus around the city and beyond. I will say the location is quite far from the city, but the frequent busses of 70 and 71 really mitigated that problem for me. There's always a staff member at the reception at all times to collect parcels/letters and I never had a problem with collecting them.

Though 15 min ride from uni, there is a bus stop nearby and a free bus far for the entire year
Claire is extremely helpful and is a credit to the Maltings, feel so welcomed and nothing is ever too much trouble for her. Appreciate her help so much this year.
Although one of the cheapest halls at Trent, it is still way overpriced (paying £4500 for the year 2018/19). The only real social spaces are the small common rooms or the outside courtyards which more often than not are left empty which can be a bit daunting if you end up in a flat with people you don’t get along with. Luckily I got on with my flat mates which meant that I had a good social experience but I imagine it could be quite isolating if you didn’t get on with them, especially with the distance (20 minute bus ride) from the centre of notts.
It's as cheap as it feels. It has a courtyard that people socialize in but mainly smokers. There's nothing to do in the area/within walking distance; you're going to have to catch a bus to do anything outside the building apart from go to the off licence. There is however a petrol station 10 mins walk away next to a MacDonald's and a couple supermarkets 15-20 mins walk away. There are very occasionally little things that the staff organize e.g. cakes at reception. Most of the staff are friendly and caring. The cleaners clean frequently; sometimes more thoroughly than other times. The internet is really fast and has only been down once or twice in the past year. If you can afford to go to a better located accommodation I'd highly recommend doing so, but if not it doesn't matter too much.
Even though it is off campus I have enjoyed it
The only issue is that the location is far away from campus, although my time in the maltings has been amazing and there is more of a community and everyone gets to know each other. Great social scene, however Phase 1 which I was living in had more of one than for those living in phase 2. Despite the rooms being bigger in phase 2, the social scene for phase 1 makes it more worthwhile and i would recommend staying there for the year

Despite the distance from the university the accommodation is very social and welcoming
Not the best due to location in comparison to other halls.
I have stayed here in first year and would strongly advise anyone to keep away. The location is very poor miles away from the university and city center, it has ruined my first year experience. It is very dirty and the furnishing is out dated. No living space in flats , just one shared between the entire accommodation downstairs. Can hear the main road traffic through the window as the windows are thin, and the walls are also extremely thin. The only good thing is big sized rooms.
So much fun, I met lots of great people. Very sociable which I really wanted however I am in phase 2 which isn’t as sociable as phase 1. So if you really want a great social experience defo go into phase 1 as they have more people and a big courtyard everyone goes to after a night out.
You know everyone, there are two courtyards and common rooms and you all catch the bus together, it's a real community and you get to know so many different people (legit like a family)
The square in the middle is a great place to meet people. And the buses that take you to freshers are the best thing ever! The rooms have a great about of space and large desks and food shops like Aldi, Sainsburys and Tesco express are right round the corner. The worst thing is the bus ride in but the bus stop is right outside so its not too bad.
Great halls, little bit far out from the city centre campus. Free bus out on for us though, and free bus passes for those who had to travel to Clifton campus. Had an amazing freshers year here and made some great friends. Was happy to fresher rep there again the year after.
I think these halls are good in terms of monitoring the staff are friendly and good at their job however the distance from the city is a pain and it is not that sociable.
