Why do you not acknowledge the fact that you move in people over christmas without letting the residents know? With many flats having this happen and having their kitchenware ruined I feel it should be mentioned when people are moving in. PEOPLE DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR THINGS RUINED AND FIND RANDOM COUPLES OVER 30 LIVING IN YOUR FLAT

I'm so confused. I am seeing half and half reviews, half saying this place is amazing and well worth staying here, and the other half the complete opposite. I have booked to stay here in September, but am now dubious because of some of the insanely bad reviews I have read. I don't know which reviews to believe and whether this place is worth staying at or not!

Hi- The buidling had a ful lrefurbish during 2020/2021 so all kitchens, bedrooms and social space have been renovated any reviews prior to this may have been associated with how the building previosuly looked.
PLEASE FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE we had our whole flat trashed with a 30 year old couple living in our flat without our knowledge as reception tried to continuously deny anyone was living there, you can find my review below for more details.

i had some issues with my laundry app and dean (and another really sweet guy but i cant remember his name) from the reception were absolutely amazing. they went out of their way to help me as best as they could. they managed to work it out while still being patient and accommodating. especially so late at night! thank you guys so much!! they deserve all the appreciation.

Really convenient and good distance from the University of Liverpool and Lidl as well as so many nice shops and takeaways like Tops Pizza. The thing that makes this accommodation especially good is the staff. Everyone, is absolutely lovely and always for a chat whether that be just before heading off to lectures or at 4am the middle of the night. I will truly miss living here!!

As a first year student it is a perfect place to live, in a perfect location that is within walking distance of all the universities and the city centre. The staff are so helpful and create a lovely warm environment.

As a mature student that has stayed with other private student providers in Liverpool, I can honestly say Capital Gate has been the best yet. Aside from the location and the extensive studio apartment size, the standout has been the staff and customer service. Any issues have been resolved promptly - I can specifically remember my boiler issue being resolved within 20 minutes of reporting it. Fantastic service! I highly recommend this place, and wish I had found them sooner when moving to Liverpool.

Decent room size, only problem I could rant about is the mattress protectors. I have about 7-8 friends in the accomodation, none of our mattress protectors are the right size. Barring that, everything else is smooth sailing.

Overall, Capital gate has been a great place to stay. The only thing I can see being improved is perhaps creating more areas for student to hang out together outside and also if staff could update about maintenance waiting times more frequently. I'd also say that maybe adding some sort of soft seating in the kitchen could be good as it will encourage socialisation outside of peoples rooms.

very overpriced accommodation! the small room and en suite leave a lot to be desired, my room came without coat hooks, a working radiator and a broken blind. the reception team lost my packages a few times and only found them after i emailed half a dozen times. our kitchen sink has been broken since November, the maintenance team still has not fixed this, even after being reminded many times. the reception team seem to dislike helping out as there have been times i have been locked out and i have to ask for them to kindly let me in and they let out a big sigh and make it out as if i'm an inconvenience. would not recommend for students.

Rooms are much bigger than expected! Kitchen is very big too! Reception is a lovely cosy area which feels as though you’re in your living room at home. Could maybe do with a work space area for students doing assignments but apart from that I couldn’t fault the place!!!

The management and staff are very nice and helpful. I had two maintenance issues throughout my stay which got resolved within a week. The building is clean, however flat hygiene is up to the tenants, and unfortunately I didn’t have the best flatmates; they would not clean up after themselves, leave food outside and pile up trash bags. This issue did not get resolved, apart from a few emails that were sent out. There are not many social places, apart from the flat kitchen, and the reception lounge. They do hold however frequent events there that one could potentially socialise. The rent is pricey for Bronze rooms compared to other accommodations, however the accommodation is very close to UoL facilities.

Capital gate was not a pleasant experience, For starters to get anything repaired and maintained takes literal months if they do not forget. I have reported a broken wardrobe twice since the day i arrived and for the entire year it has not been fixed or even looked at. Roommates were unbelievably unhygienic and when reported multiple times, staff would not bother to do anything about it except send some emails to that person, but the antisocial behavior still continued. There was also a smell of cannabis outside every entrance and around the property as people have been smoking all around the property, making it an unwelcome experience for any guests staying over. Nearby Flats would often cause too much noise and at times burst into my flat to do pranks. And the kitchen equipment that was provided by the accommodation, such as a kettle, toaster and microwave were all either broken beyond repair or not working properly before i have evearrived, again staff did nothing to fix that. 1/10

Don’t stay here. As much as some of the team are very nice, it’s not a good place to live to say it’s quite an expensive accomodation. It’s the second time in two weeks that there has been no hot water for a shower and the team just say they’ll get it sorted the next day, which is ridiculous not being able to use the shower for a day. The rooms are nice but the kitchen has no sofa or Tv unlike most of my friends accomodations I have been to, there is just a bench to sit on, which means you’re unable to comfortably chill in the kitchen with flatmates. The “social area” is in the reception which makes it a poor place to socialise. Why would you want to go sit with friends when the staff could be on the phone or doing work in the same room? I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

The maintenance speed for fixing things is always slow. The apartment's internet and washing machines are outsourced to other vendors. So When the internet goes down or the washing machine inexplicably swallows money, students have to contact the providers themselves to solve the issue, which the receptionist won't handle. The elevator has been out of service for three months. The service attitude is mediocre, storage space is very limited, the hallways are narrow, the environment is poor, and the staff have an impatient attitude towards students. In a word, this studentroost is poor value for money.
I've had some issues with my door lock and washroom right after I moved in, but they were resolved in a timely fashion so the rest of my stay has been pretty smooth sailing
Absolutely the Best student accomodation when it comes to the property placement as it is less than a 10 minute walk to the University and right next to the supermarket, the administration is top notch and every common space is well maintained and cleaned regularly Special thanks to Lily who's amazing at her job, she's very friendly and polite.

Charlie and the rest of the team has made me feel so comfortable. I really enjoy coming down to collect my parcels and having a chat. They recommended me places that i’ve went to and were great. Honestky a lovely team that actually cares, makes you really feel as close to home as possible

Lovely experience staying at Capital Gate!
DO NOT STAY HERE! I returned from Christmas to find reception had booked a couple in that were 30 years old into our spare room (in a female only flat!) without letting any of us know, they trashed our kitchen using all our stuff, left the front door unlocked for hours at a time, and left used condoms in our hall. The flat upstairs to me had it worse with 5 people living out of 2 rooms, their kitchen had 10 bin bags left with rotting food, all their food had been stolen, and their kitchen ware was ruined. I came home to my door unlocked when it had been locked when I left, and reception tried to say it was definitely my fault, and a girl in the flat above found their door unlocked (when she had also left hers locked) with all her toilet roll stolen and toiletries used. They take no consideration into the welfare of the students living there, saying they can have men living in female only flats as it’s only a preference, even if the preference is for religious reasons. DO NOT BOOK
I have really enjoyed my time here at capital gate, the staff are all really sweet and helpful because during my time here I have really struggled with my mental health and all the staff have really taken care of me and made sure that I have been okay. I would really recommend staying here its got an amazing atmosphere and social space. 10\10 from me

My experience so far at Capital Gate has been great. The staff are super welcoming and friendly are happy to help. I haven’t experienced any issues whilst at the sight but I’m sure that the staff would be more than helpful and diligent. Particular mention to Mark, who works the night shift. He is very alert and focused whilst remaining welcoming. it makes the place feel much more secure and safe at night and I know that he would be willing to help all the students.

Literally do not bother with this accommodation. If you go on trustpilot you can see the real reviews instead of the ones coaxed out of international students by capital gate, which is the only way they’ve managed to stay afloat to this date. Everything about this place is a shambles, the flat I lived in wasn’t even cleaned before we moved in so my flatmates mum had to do it herself. Everything was used/broken and there are rats near the bins. Even worse they want us to pay rent through a pandemic because the circumstance apparently isn’t ‘extenuating’ enough. Anyone who works here or feeds them good reviews should be ashamed of themselves because you are literally helping more students be scammed into staying in THE most depressing place I’ve ever been in my life :)

We're unsure as to what your review refers to, as we have been refurbishing our building since 2020, we have not had residents on site whilst we have been making our building just like new for our 2021/22 tenants. With regards to rent payments, we wrote out to all 18,000 of our residents on 25 March 2020 to offer them this opportunity to be released from their contracts early if they had moved home or planned to do so. We also posted details on our website and social media accounts, and our policy was also reported in regional and national media and shared by a number of universities. We were one of the first to do this in the industry and we were the industry leader in giving our residents enough time to apply for this scheme. AWFUL. During first year I decided to stay here due to the price being cheap. It is cheap for a reason. It’s situated in a really bad area, I’ve seen heroin users leave needles by the front gate, I’ve witnessed arson just outside the flats from my front room, I’ve been approached by prostitutes just outside the accommodation, and alcoholics routinely wait outside the back gates which is intimidating. The actual company is also dreadful. I returned after covid to find silverfish bugs in my room and spent lots of money cleaning my things. They claim there was not any signs of bugs though so never got any compensation. After quarantine I returned back to flat to find all the stuff in my kitchen STOLEN. Capital gate gave me a voucher of £50 which was not enough to cover the £150+ loss. The stuff in my kitchen was stolen by random people they let move into our flat without telling us. The biggest positive of this place is the front desk staff, Faye in particular.

Perfect place to live . Really close to uni and to the city centre and with everything that we need to have a wonderful experience . People are always ready to help you ( especially Faye that helped me a lot , not only during the year but also during quarantine time always checking if I was fine and if I needed something, so , for her , a big thank you ) . Good rooms , with enough space and a really nice study desk . Big kitchen with all the home appliances that we need ( microwave , toaster , kettle , ... ) . I really recommend Capital Gate to live and to have a perfect experience here at Liverpool . Definitely , I made a good choice when I decided living here 😁

I stayed at capital gate my first year and its was perfect. I don't think theres any other accommodation with a better location. The staff were always friendly, special mention Fay who was always amazing with nothing being to much of an ask.

The location is what made me choose Capital Gate in the first place, at the back of Lidl and 5 mins from the Harold Cohen Library. The silver rooms are a good size and the kitchens are plenty big enough for all your friends. The absolute only downside of the place is the price, it can be expensive compared to student houses but you get a lot for what you pay. Don't bother living in uni halls, here is cheaper and far better. The staff are fantastic, especially Faye and Bree who always brought a smile to my face whenever I wandered in. I've lived here 2 years and I'm going to miss it.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Student Roost operates solely for profit and do not care about their occupants. The staff on the front desk are lovely but the business as a whole is NOT to be trusted; do not give this greedy company your money! The facilities are dirty, there’s used needles outside the gate, the gates were mostly broken, lights always broke, rubbish washing machines and dryers. Even in the midst of a global pandemic and university closing, they still want all of your money even if you move out. NO compassion whatsoever. When I moved in there was mould all over my bathroom and the paint had completely chipped off the wall, with the toilet seat hanging off also. Just not at all worth it, much much nicer accommodations out there.

Awful, nothing works! Kitchen cupboard hanging off, second freezer doesn’t work, vacuum cleaner doesn’t work, missing shelves in bathroom, communal areas of the flat corridors are not cleaned (as initially promised).

D****** accomodation, dodgey plumbing, had to live in unsafe conditions for over month, terrible maintenance team and bed/ kitchen equiptment. Save your money for somewhere that actually checks the room conditions and cleans up. Only pro is that most desk staff are super nice and caring.

I've stayed here for 2 year and it has been great.Managment has changed and i like them better then alex as he was always trying to get me to play ping pong. capital gate is very close to me uni and i think it is a reallt great value for money

I have enjoyed my time at Capital Gate but there are definitely things that could be improved. There is no common room, just a table tennis in reception which makes it hard to meet people from other flats. However the staff are lovely and the location is ideal for people attending Uni of Liverpool.

I have stayed here for 2 years and I really have liked it here, its close to my uni so I don't have to pay for public transport and town is only 5 minute walk. My silver room is so spacious

The staff keep harassing me to rebook when I don’t want to. Won’t rebook bc the room is not nice and it’s not a value for money here. They say they will make beds bigger for sep 20 but that won’t make me rebook. Better places round Liverpool
We're sorry that you feel this way - our staff do not aim to harass anyone. Here at Capital Gate, all of our beds will be double sized for 2020/21, we have a perfect location within walking distance to campus, restaurants and local shops - no need to worry about transport!
Very close to the dental school. They don't do kitchen cleans here but they do collect your parcels for you.

Our maintenance seems to be getting fixed alot more quicker with the new guy job he seems to be alot more proffesonial and knows what he's doing not like the old guy he came across abit shady.

the wifi is good, sucks that they do fire drills when your sleeping. its cheap and close to uni but thats about it

The rooms are for you to make your own, we offer a spacious work desk with chair, drawrers, wardrobe, mirror and ensuite (plus under bed storage). All our Bronze rooms are being upgraded to Small Doubles for September 2020. :)
Capital gate is really close to the city and lidl is right behind the building so don't have to walk far for milk. Bri is nice and she always smiles
Alot of our residents stay with us because of how close we are to excellent amenites and less than a 5 minute walk to UOL campus. Briyarna is ACE and always welcoming.

Capital gate is okay. It's close to my uni but it seems to take long time for heaters to be fixed. 2 people in my flat sont have working heaters since October. Stan promised me pizza but never got it so don't believe him if he says he buy you pizza, not true
If you have never used the type of heaters before it can be a little tricky to understand, however Joe our caretaker works very quickly across the site. if you are having same issue please email capital.gate@studentroost.co.uk.
Good location to Uni. Not much of a social space but there is a place to play ping pong and please ps4. Cool that you can live with friends but maintenance is very slow. But recepition is nice
Ping Pong & ps4 is very popular, we always have events on throughout the month such as herb planting, our recent halloween duck apple and treats.
Without doubt capital gate is one of the best accommodations to stay! Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed by staff members here, extremely,ely friendly. The location is best for liverpool and limo students, everyone very close and easy to access.

Stan is a very helpful receptionist, has helped us on number of occasions with issues with keys when we have locked ourselves out. He is always a pleasure to see around and comforting at night.
We pride ourselves on offering a 24 hour service to all our residents so you can rest knowing a team member is always on hand to help you any time of night ( or early morning).

Capital gate is a perfect location for Uni of Liverpool students. In addition I would say the security is great, always leaving tenants as if they are in a safe secure place.
Our location is one of the main reasons our residents decide to live with us :) The main campus is less than a five minute walk, we have Lidl, Home Bargain, Tesco, cafes and many more amenities within walking distance.

Capital gate is a good accommodation for students. It is close to university of liverpool that only take 5 minutes to university which has a good location.

The manager Kelly and reception staff Faye & Bree are awesome! Friendly, kind, they always ask you about your day, about your time in Capital and if there's any problem they will fix it soon. The place is at a stone's throw from the campus and 10 min from town, cosy kitchen and fully equipped rooms. I really have spent a good time this year. Gonna miss you guys!

Capital gate is near to the campus and is worth to stay there
We are really close to the campus, only a short walk with lots of stores and cafes along the way. The Royal hospital is only a few mintues walk also.
Everything is ok except that sometimes the bell for fire will ring for a long time.

We are sorry that you experienced this, the lifts have all been serviced and are in working order. There was a few issues earlier this year that took some time to resolve. We do have staircases incase of no lift.

We are sorry you had an issue, we have an on site caretaker who tries to fix/resolve any issues you may have, sometimes it may be a job that we need a specialist for, however most problems are fixed in the correct and legal timescale.

Capital Gate is so close to Liverpool University which is fab for me because I don't like walking :) The staff are really nice and there is always something going on in the Social Space through the week.
Rats, maggots, dirty. That's all you need to know. Management is awful at responding to anything wrong, missed cleaning our flat, and when my delightful flatmates left a maggot problem, refused to clean it. Absolutely disgusting, never stay here.
We are so sorry you experienced all of this, We now have a new team in place from managment to front of house, who are very experienced. Alot has changed and we are pleased to see that improvements have been made.
As my experience as a student at Liverpool for 4 years this by far is the worst place I lived. Though its location is ideal, crawl out of bed and get to your lecture in 5 minutes. Value for money is terrible there are by far better places to stay at. Hope you have a better experience in your first year good luck.
We are sorry that you have had this expeirence back in 2016. Student Roost are now the owners of Capital Gate since 2017 and we have made vast improvments with new team members. We do hope you will visit one day to see how much it has changed.
Too expensive, area okay but felt unsafe first few weeks as electronic gate had broken and drunks were drinking on our wall. Actually saw needles around the area too. We had no cleaners, and the main issue was no reclying bins! The washing and drying facilities were too expensive for what they were too. However, management, reception and maintenance were always on form.
Thank you for sharing your review. Student Roost are now the owners of Capital Gate, we have a 24/7 service and CCTV. The area at the back of the property has improved vastly. We have housekeepers who clan the communal area and blocks. Our bins are collected and recyled at the plant.
No security, my room was broken into and the main gates broken into multiple times. cleaners are awful and do not clean, they bang on your bedroom door at 9am until you take your bins out. reception staff no help if there's an issue, only good thing is repairs are done quickly.
We are sorry you experienced this with the previous owners. Student Roost now own and manage Captal Gate. We have a 24/7 service, CCTV and house keepers are here helping keep the building clean and fresh for all our residents. We have a new team in place also who are recieving lots of compliments for their service and work.
Really noisy, regardless of the day, time of day, or time of year (excluding summer as I am leaving early may). If I called security they took almost 20 mins to get to where the noise was coming from, by which time the noise had stopped, meaning I had a knock on my door from security at 3am asking why I called. The cleaner we originally had refused to clean the side because their were two pieces of pieces of paper there 'obstructing'. The second cleaner seemed to roughly touch the hob and mob (not sweep) the floor, leaving damp bits of food and dirt all over the floor. Our current cleaner is slightly better though the cleaner comes less than every fortnight which is what it's supposed to be. The back gate has always been dodgy, often not working anyway, and in the rain the fobs to get in don't work at all so we have to go all the way around the building.
