All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Read The Bridge Reviews
The staff at The Bridge are excellent but the building has very obviously been refurbished to the cheapest and poorest standard possible. I have never known another student accommodation require student wardens and a group chat because there are power outages in multiple rooms every single day without fail. If you’re unlucky you might have 5 power outages in your flat within one day. This is not an uncommon occurrence. The windows are not properly sealed so any sound from the neighbouring nightclubs and pubs can be heard very clearly at all times and the rooms get ridiculously cold because of the poor sealing - when it is windy you can even see it blowing your blinds. Lots of people staying here have not had any heating since moving in, as of 29 Nov 24 when it has reached -2°. The rest have had heating that is blasting to the point of turning their rooms into saunas Extractor fans are connected to each other and run loudly 24/7. Hundreds of pounds a week for what we get is criminal
A range of maintenance issues that are completely unacceptable considering the prices of the rooms. Noisy extractor fans that are connected to other rooms so you can smell everything that’s cooked (or smoked🍃). WiFi and power cuts every day. Depending on the room you book it’s either incredibly hot or the heating doesn’t work, and you can’t change it. Heating issues were ignored until people started complaining together and threatening legal action due to the temperature being borderline inhospitable (they’re still struggling to fix it). Staff are kind but I don’t pay hundreds of pounds a week for a nice chat. Only redeeming quality is the location, next to spoons and opposite a small Tesco's, but really not worth it and I regret booking here. If you have to bribe people to leave good reviews there’s a massive issue!!
Very expensive. The bathroom is really small but the actual bedroom is large with storage place. The kitchen isn't that great since you have to go down the lift or stairs as all the main kitchens are on the lower ground floor. In terms of location, it gets loud because it's based on the main road.
10/10 management team alongside great location.
Great opportunity to meet new people, staff on desk are helpful and lovely and cleaning staff are great
I feel good to live here and have a good experience.
Great place to stay. Olivia the receptionist is lovely and location of the accommodation is perfect. Local to everything I need and 1 second walk to my uni
Good location, the receptionist is so good
Very nice environment and staff
Liv is amazing, best receptionist in town.🫶🏻🫶🏻
very nice chick behind the desk
The location is my favourite thing about the bridge, not only is the friary a minute away but there’s many other shops. The rooms are also nice however the shower in the premium en-suite, which I’m in, is way too small and the water pressure in the bathroom sink and shower is shallow. The kitchens are very good with great utilities. The laundry system is very easy to use.
A quality environment, with friendly, warm and welcoming staff.
Christain and Liv are always so lovely always lovely to have a chat with! Always feel like I have someone to talk to at reception
I haven't been living here for very long but so far I've been having a blast with it. Living next to my uni is very convenient for me.
Having fun from the last few days.
A lovely space to live whilst at university. Liv and Christian are so friendly and make you feel at home.
Really nice staff and really nice place to stay
Livs the best one here. Location is great too.
As a re-booker, I've seen the improvements made by the refurbishments to the building. With new facilities, helpful staff and a prime location, staying at The Bridge has made my university experience a pleasant one.
Only pick it for easy access to train station or ACM. It is far too overpriced for the facilities they offer. Check your contract. If construction is mentioned, then run away. They used it as a scapegoat to take away water to my room for 5 months, and used it as an excuse to not buy freezers for 4 months. Though the new renovations make the place seem nicer, it doesn't justify their poor management of the situation nor the price increase from £160 to £305. They robbed me of the Uni experience so be careful.
Helpful and really friendly staff who make sure that everyone's needs are met.
Great location, nice friendly staff and good shared spaces!
