Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
If you're a student looking for affordable accommodation right in the heart of the University of Surrey campus, Stag Hill Court is a fantastic option. The shared rooms were a lifesaver for my budget, and I found my flatmates to be respectful and friendly. The location is unbeatable! Being right on the main campus meant I could roll out of bed and be in lectures in minutes. Plus, everything you need is right on your doorstep: the library, cafes, prayer rooms, the Students' Union, and even parking. It couldn't be more convenient. What I loved most was the lively, house-like atmosphere. It's definitely not a quiet, empty dorm! If you enjoy a vibrant living space with plenty of activity, you'll feel right at home. And while shared living can sometimes get messy, the weekly cleaners kept everything tidy, which was a huge plus. For students who prioritize affordability, convenience, and a social living environment, the shared rooms at Stag Hill Court are an absolute winner.
Stag Hill Court offers affordable on-campus accommodation at the University of Surrey, making it a convenient option for students who want to stay close to lectures and university facilities. The rooms are relatively basic but functional, with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. While it may not be the most modern accommodation on campus, it provides a good budget-friendly option for students looking to save on rent. Its central location within the university ensures easy access to the library, student union, and other amenities. However, as an older accommodation, it might lack some of the newer features found in other halls.
Very good and cozy and also very close to uni
for one, the walls are so thin you can hear everyone, upstairs and downstairs so you won’t be able to sleep, ever. The doors slam so will wake you up every time they shut and are creaking and loud. the wifi is so temperamental and turns on and off every second. no communal space, literally a tiny kitchen, but so unsocial-able. genuinely made my uni experience terrible so far. don’t recommend. oh also don’t bother contacting accommodation services regarding anything because they’re useless
Stag Hill court was definitely better than I expected it to be, I had a nice view and had perfect access to both Town and lectures. Though it wasn’t pretty from the outside - it was fine inside. It did lack a social aspect as there was no communal areas apart from the kitchen
Rooms are so good and communal area maintenance is amazing. Stag hill court is the nearest accommodation to uni, so that we can access every facilities such as library and uni events. Shared rooms and Kitchen are very spacious. Definitely worth for every pounds.
To me ,it is one of the best accommodation for its price. To describe in one word it is " flawless"
nice house, good size rooms, good sized kitchens, location is perfect for everything, wifi great
The flat is like a 60s insane asylum. Hasn't seen a lick of paint in years. Filthy walls in rooms. Stains everywhere. Smells musty like an old caravan. Antisocial, don't expect to meet other flats. Good luck if you don't like your flat mates. Wardens are extremely strict. I would say avoid, but you get what you're given. Since that's how surrey works, avoid surrey unless you like not knowing what accommodation you have 2 weeks before you arrive. Terribly managed uni.
A great accommodation to live in if you want a lively, chatty house near enough to lecture theaters to sprawl out of bed 10 minutes before the lecture starts.
Value for money as I didn't mind having a shared room. Close to my lectures even if I woke up 10 mins before it started. Close to all the facilities that I needed.
This is honestly the worst place to live. Please listen to me when I say this, don't. Live. Here.
Nice rooms but with a small kitchen for 10 people
It's just amazing So close to the lectures as well as the town
Lovely having a house structure to it, but would be amazing to have a proper communal area/lounge inside the house! Our cleaner did more moving around than cleaning too but never mind!
It's been fantastic and really good
Generally very good! Not much better at Surrey
Decent for the price, annoying kitchen but you'll get used to the wardrobe being outside your room. Bring an extension lead for the useless positioning of plugs.
Best place for social life ! Really cheap for a really decent and good place. Across from Rubix and not far from everything else.
Really cosy but room for imorovement. Enjoying living here though
The best hall. Provides unreal university experience.
pretty good halls, close to most things on campus and very near to town. only downside is its near to the SU so can be pretty loud at times
