Yes. Liberty Gardens is within the district of Edgbaston, which is a popular residential area positioned near Birmingham’s private schools and hospitals. Yes, the area around the accommodation is a popular, residential community. We would recommend a search for crime statistics for the Edgbaston area if you are still concerned. Birmingham is a big city and with every city there are concerns from many students, we would recommend that students in any city should walk with friends when out at night and to stay vigilant. Lib gardens was probably not any of the choices on your halls preference list. If you’re allocated this accom, you will panic and think that your uni social life is over before its even started. I cried when I realised I wouldn’t be on the vale as it is hyped up a lot, and the reviews from last year made me feel like I would be isolated and have no friends. However, all things considered my first year at lib was one of the best years ive had and whilst being on the vale would have likely been even better for me, from my own experience I made a whole bunch of friends and had a really really fun year. Admittedly the long walk to uni did become annoying especially when it got cold but in all honesty I just ended up taking the train most days which, while it doesnt seem ideal, ended up just becoming part of life. Bottom line: after even considering deferring before even arriving due to this accom, I can safely say that I severely overreacted and you’ll have a great year at lib regardless.
Awesome site for being a fresher, it’s not on campus but we loved it because of that. You have all the freedom of living in a shared house with your mates but with all your bills taken care of, WiFi is quality and staff available when you need them. Met my Uni fam here and we now all live together - properly friends for life from this place
This is the third student halls I've stayed in, and the worst. For the most part with halls, what you pay for is what you get, but this is extreme. If you like sleeping on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday night don't stay here because pres are loud and love screaming in the courtyard at midnight. Tere's no security on site to stop them. You can ring to get security to come out but they keep it very secret so good luck getting your hands on it. You have probably a 1/6 chance in getting a damp room. And by damp, I mean the wall closest to the stairwell is DRIPPING wet. And it drips right down onto your bedding so your bed might be big but it's always nice and wet. And that damp causes a lot of black mould, which spreads into your bedding, too. And maintenance can't fix it. Oh, and ***** in the office will charge you before your first student loan payment even if you do everything they ask so you can't afford freshers. And even then the location is the worst bit, it's that far.
One word. Isolation. For anyone who considers putting it on your list. Don’t. They make no effort to match people in flats, the people who run Liberty Living are not very good (almost incompetent) at dealing with problems. The room is a decent size with lots of storage and a bed that is really nice. Desk space is small however. The window doesn’t open very far, only about an inch which is quite annoying. Our kitchen also smells really bad. The distance from the uni is a pain, you can’t stay late if you’re worried of walking back through Edgbaston in the dark. The location is very close to Five ways station and not far from Broad Street which is decent on nights out. I would recommend for anyone who is doing their accommodation choices: only apply for university run accommodation, not private halls. And if you’re into social accommodation: only apply for the vale.
Our oven broke about 3 months in, we had the maintenance people look at it 4 times and they refused to mend it. They kept coming up with some **** story that the oven turned itself off when it got to the right temperature but that simply wasn't true (chips etc. took an hour+ to cook). Basically the halls are lovely and the staff are really helpful right up until the point where they actually have to do anything of note.

Not a great success Absolutely no social spaces so isolating Expensive to travel to uni and a very long walk which is dark in winter No attempt to match people in flats so disastrous all round . They don’t show you these places on the open day which is a bit dishonest but it makes money for a private company so someone is happy Avoid
Absolutely atrocious it is literally inhumane to be offered this horrible building not owned by the uni over 2 miles from the uni rather than any of my 6 preferences, anyone given this has really drawn the short straw i'd rather be anywhere else its ruined my uni experience.
Everything about it is horrendous, literally choose any other accommodation other than this s*** uni experience

Close to city centre which is nice but too far away from uni, had lots of fun here though
Extremely far from university (40minute walk), office hours are 4.30-5.30 so if you miss a parcel then you can't access it if you're not free! Rooms are small, but beds have just been upgraded so future value for money will improve. No common room space as a halls, but sofa area in each kitchen is nice.
Very sociable accommodation, good value for money and good location near the broad street and the city centre. Would be nice to be closer to the Uni of Birmingham though.
Love everything about it, nobody chose it as their choice but pretty much everyone who gets allocated here will tell you how awesome it is. I don't know whether it's because of the way the accommodation is gated in facing each other, or maybe because we're all not on the vale, but there really is a true sense of community and hall pride in Liberty Gardens which speaking to previous residents seem to happen year on year. Incredibly social, the location is amazing if you love the city and love going out, and honestly the distance from uni isn't as big of a deal as you would imagine. Edgbaston is lovely, and we get so many more benefits of the city plus super close train station. Excellent value for money, super friendly and helpful staff from Liberty Living but also get the benefits of it still being with the uni and have lovely RA's who interact with the guild for us. Wouldn't change it for the world

Pros: great management, free parking, friendly and efficient (free) maintenance, good storage space, good security Cons: Over two miles to many lectures, no shuttle bus, no cleaning, very small shower, feels very isolated, small rooms, hot and muggy on the ground floor, windows don't open
Really nice flats, the rooms are a good size and the living/kitchen room is a good size for pres and chilling! Because it's small and all the flats surround a courtyard it's quite communal and you get to know a lot of people in different blocks! Only problem is there's no communal area, it's a 30-40 min walk to campus and you miss out on some vale activities- but then it's so close to broad street, tesco, train station and McDonald's! And you can catch the train to Uni for £1.30 return so if it's raining you have it better than the those on the vale!
It was far away from uni but was right next to Broad Street - if you like going out, it's perfect.
love living at Liberty! Was at first annoyed as I was not placed on the main student villages, but there's a great family feeling about living here and you can have a good night out or spend a quiet night in- best of both worlds!
