I am a postgraduate student and feel so well supported at the University of Derby. I am loving my course - I have just completed my first semester and feel that I have already learned so much. The content is comprehensive, it is taught interactively and clearly, and each member of the faculty is so warm and passionate that any nerves I had were quickly eased. I am really excited for what future semesters bring, and really believe that the university will help me every single step of the way. I would highly recommend the University of Derby from my experience!

This is an excellent university to attend with fabulous lecturers. It would be nice to see some more clubs and societies. If you’re a Christian, there are many to pick from, but if you want something secular, you are more limited.
good good good good good good good good
Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear that you're enthusiatic and have had a good experience at the University of Derby.
International students have culture shock, but English classes for international students are warm.
Just an ok university. Nothing special or groundbreaking. Average/ poor facilities. Library rarely has adequate copies of books you need. It seems to be one of those 'local' unis, i.e. the locals go there because it's their nearest uni, they often just wanna get their degree and move on with life, so are largely unenthusiastic - sadly leads to a mediocre learning experience for all. The uni isn't particularly renowned for it's research or anything. They cram as many students onto each course as possible, therefore lecture halls are full to the brim & v. uncomfortable. The eatery's at lunch time are packed with people and you sometimes can't find anywhere to sit.
Good university with good support
I have had a very good experience at the University because our lectures are friendly and the environment is suitable for studying and there is presence of variety of activities which help to socialise and provide entertainment
Nice and tidy campus with different food and drink options. Good quality of teaching and placements arrangements are made for you and staff are really accommodating. The uni bus (U1/U2) are good services that are free with a student ID. They can be a bit busy in the morning and afternoons after lectures end but run regularly.
Good overall experience, have had ups and downs but would definitely recommend this university! I will miss being a student, mainly because I love learning and will not get to see the amazing friends I have made as much when I graduate. My advice is to ensure you have a good work life balance, and to get involved with as many experiences and opportunities as you can!
More people should study economics.
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you're having a great time at the University of Derby and that you recommend others to study economics!

Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you're having a great time at the University of Derby, feel well supported and are loving your course. Best of luck with the rest of your studies!
I have only studied at Derby since September this year but really enjoying the course so far, I'm studying a degree apprenticeship while still in work and get 1 day release for university, so I don't spend loads of time there and have to commute once a week. My only complaint would be the traffic on the A38 to get there.
They need to work better on how they interact with International students especially for the admissions team as well as the student journey overall. There is a lack of care and understanding at times with Internationals with alot of people in admissions not know how to handle their issues.
I study Journalism at the Marketon Campus (at Derby Uni) and find that it is such an immersive and engaging course- we really are being trained how to be relevant and current journalists, with the evolving skills that come with that. From learning about the utilisation of social media to going in the radio studios, I really do feel completely immersed in my course, especially as we largely learn by doing. Although this campus is fully kitted out to suit the courses it houses, sometimes it does feel like a bit of an afterthought compared to the main Kedleston campus, as that's where a lot of the union/ activities are based- so we do sometimes feel out of the loop a bit.
I came to University of Derby after speaking to a mature student nurse whilst visiting my dad in hospital, she told me the lecturers don't give up on you, they will sit with you independently and try their best to help you learn - this for me sealed the deal because 1 of many in a classroom can feel daunting no matter how old you are! It's a lovely campus, everything in one place, clean facilities and staff are really kind. Nice vibe when you walk through the atrium. Noone knows this but I feel so proud to be there. My advise to anyone wanting to study here - don't think about it, just do it. That's what I did, and it's honestly one of the best choices I've made in my life.
Overall good school. I like how they are career oriented and provide career events with employers.
Uni of Derby has a great culture, teaching staff and facilities
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you're having a great time at the University of Derby and that your value our culture, teaching staff and facilities!
The university itself is brilliant, it has many opportunities for clubs and groups etc as well as helping out with careers in your degree and giving career talks which students are informed about. The Wi-Fi is good however i personally think it could be advertised a-bit more on campus. The support is great too as it also accommodated for students living at home, this is from personal experience.
Exceptional international student support from free airport pickup service, welcome events, settling in, and supportive induction week to start your academic journey well.
One of the best aspects of studying at Derby University is the supportive environment. The lecturers are approachable and genuinely invested in student success, offering valuable guidance both academically and professionally. The modern facilities, such as the library and study spaces, create a great atmosphere for learning, while opportunities like workshops and career events have been instrumental in preparing for the future. However, one challenge has been managing the transition to independent learning, particularly during the first year. That said, this experience has taught me essential time-management and problem-solving skills, which have been invaluable in my development.
Had a rocky start with the course, but as a student, been busy with a load of university-based stuff, whether as it is organised by the residency or by the union. I am busy most evenings because of it.
I think the university is professional and helpful. I also like that there are diverse societies to join and also free events for students. I do wish that certain societies have been more welcoming, from personal experience.
Great place for further studies and most lecturers are engaging and experts in their fields.
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you've found the University a great place for your further stidoes and that the lecturers are well engaged.
Everything is good, I enjoy it
Thank you for your great review. We are glad to hear that you are enjoying your time at Derby!
i receive extra support from the institution and they have pushed me to persevere in my degree
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's great to hear that you value our support. We wish you the best of luck with your studies!
Fantastic uni, really enjoying my time here and I've met the best people. The quality of everything is great and the food options are incredible too
Thank you for your review, it's lovely to hear that you're having a great time at the University of Derby. We are glad that you've met great people and that you value what we have to offer - including the delicious and varied food options!
The best part of Derby uni is that theyre very good with using student feedback to develop everything from course content, learning styles and events. The facilitiies are nice. The city feels safe, relatively quiet and cheap.
Thank you Moll for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you recognise that we use the student voice to adapt our offerings to ensure the best possible experience for our students!
A great university that excels at education-based degrees. IT provides a great mixture of both in-person experience and university input from lecturers.
The animation course is amazing with passionate people running it and with thorough coursework, would recommend for any aspirijg animators!
Thank you for your great review! We are pleased that you are enjoying the animation course and that you value those who are running it. We wish you the very best of luck with the rest of your studies.
My campus is Britannia mill and it is awful with regards to facilities and the cafe. The food in the cafe is catered for children and not nutritious in the slightest. It’s food option for vegetarians or vegans or even people with food allergies is shocking. You have to pay for a fork if you bring in your own meal? Which I and others decide to do instead as it isn’t worth the price it’s costed at! We are students and shouldn’t be paying nearly £4.00 for a jacket potato with a tiny bit of beans and cheese. And if you do decide to bring in your own food, don’t bother because you’ll spend most of your lunch break queuing for the ONE microwave they so kindly gave us… The one decent thing is the coffee machine as it costs £1.00 for a coffee or hot chocolate, which is lovely BUT it is always broken, always malfunctions in some way and some of my course mates have been charged and not refunded when the machine doesn’t make the drink… there is a small computer section? And no library!
They offer amazing facilities and wide range of courses. They also make the experience of university fun while it being educational
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you value our wide range of courses and great facilities.
The canteen at Britannia mill is abysmal and severely understaffed. It infringes on the limited time we have for lunch
The uni is great, many places to enjoy on breaks and different options to eat and drink
Overall been a pleasant experience. Bit confusing at times with the not very good planning of individual lecturers. E.g. one lecturer didn't know which deadline was the true one etc. But been good overall learnt a lot and I'm more confident in my social life too thanks to Uni of Derby
Nice mordern campus. My favourite place is the library as there are always free comouters you could use, you can book study rooms and i particularly like the too floor where its silent study so its a good place to concentrate and complete my work. Always many events on campus Overall its a good university
The university has ample places to eat with a great range for different dietary equirements. The library is a wonderful place to study with lots of seating options for those alone or in a group. Staff are always there to help if need be and there is a friendly atmosphere. The atrium always has something going on such as fairs or stalls for shopping. Lots to get involved in
Great Uni, as an apprentice I have found plenty of support via the staff at university and goot facilities.
Thank you for your great review. We are glad to hear that you've enjoyed your experience as an apprentice at the the University and appreciate our services, support and facilities!
Not got a thing to complain about. Only been here a couple months but I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Staff are lovely, security are super friendly and helpful and great range of places to eat/drink during breaks or studying
Everything as expected or better. modern facilities, good atmosphere.
Thank you for your review! We are pleased to hear that your experience has been what you expected or better and that you enjoy our modern facilities and great atmosphere!
I have had a great experience studying at the University of Derby. The campus is modern and well-equipped, offering a fantastic learning environment. The facilities, particularly for my course (Business Management), are top-notch, with access to state-of-the-art resources and study spaces. The teaching staff are knowledgeable and approachable, always ready to offer guidance and support when needed. I’ve been impressed with the quality of the lectures and the practical, real-world approach to learning that the university promotes. They also provide great career support services, helping students with internships and job placements. One area that could be improved is the variety of extracurricular activities, as I feel there could be more opportunities for students to get involved in different clubs and societies. Additionally, sometimes the communication between departments could be clearer, as there are occasional delays in responses to queries. Overall, I would highly recommend Der
The university of Derby is an amazing place to be with an amazing community of lecturers as well as students. I have made friends for life here and know that we now all feel like family.
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you're having a great time at the University of Derby and that you've made friends for life!
Great campuses, all within walking distance of the student accommodations. Teaching staff are great and there are regular reviews/student rep meetings to tweak or change any of the modules if there is anything to add or amend. Careers service team have been brilliant and helped me with my CV. Sports and societies are a great way to meet new people and get involved.
I have been a student since September, and I have enjoyed every minute of my learning. The lectures are mind-blowing and how they are taught is amazing,
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you're having a great time at the University of Derby!
I have become comfortable here with the conveniently sized city and local green spaces. Derby University has always been great for being able find part-time work on campus - this has been really helpful!
I’ve been at University of Derby for 2 years, and the overall experience has been amazing. I could not reccomend it enough to anyone who is considering studying here. We have fantastic 24/7 student support which is great during exam seasons. On the campus itself, I feel incredibly safe and supported. Our security staff are there to greet you and make you feel comfortable to raise any concerns. The student union offers a variety of services, I myself have contacted them for mental health and wellbeing support and they have provided excellent support and I feel very confident that I can go back to them at any time. I myself have not joined any societies, however the societies offered are great, there are a variety ranging from sports, to debate, to hobbies and interests: there is something there for everyone, Finally, the faucilities offered at the universities are amazing. For most degrees, you will find specialist subject rooms such as labs, or mock hospital wards for nursing degree
The Uni of Derby has supported me as a postgraduate working mother taking on additional training for my current role as a nurse. They have supported me in so many ways and apply a human touch I never felt at my previous uni. This is a great uni for pastoral support and the team, hours, support all help me overcome any barriers to study. I feel very wanted there and also feel the teaching team are cheering us on (literally sometimes!). I wish I was here for longer than a year!
The main campus is clean and easy to access as well as has great internet connection! I have never had a problem with anything other than it being busy often, but that cannot be helped.
Fantastic experience at this university so far as a student parent and mature student - Support is absolutely fantastic - couldn't ask for a better university experience so far. Any problems I have had I've never found it difficult to speak up about and get pointed in the direction I can help. I feel as far as university's go this university has been the most understanding about students with caring responsibilities so I am very grateful for that. I've put three stars for society's/clubs as a more mature student I don't think there is much - Personally... Most of the clubs that I were interested in did things on days and times I couldn't do because of childcare BUT there are some great clubs for those that are interested.
The campuses have great facilities, and the staff are always ready to help. The university has a wide range of different sports clubs (If that's your thing) and has some niche societies to join- I would say that there aren't loads and loads of societies outside that I was personally interested in. I can't talk for the other sites, but Britannia Mill is a lovely campus with a huge amount of great art facilities.
Derby is a good university all needs are taken care of with caring and compassionate lecturers and stuff to give the student a comfortable place to study
I FELT VERY HAPPY TO GOT ADDMISSION IN UNIVERSITY OF DERBY THIRE ARE COUPLE OF REASON 1 IS THEY PROVIDE MY FV8 COURSE 2IAM HOCKEY PLAYER SO ITS IMPORTANT FOR ME TO HAVING A TEAM AND I GOT THIS APPORTUNITY AT THEIR MOROVER THEY HAVE VERY EXPERIENECD TEACHERS AND STAFF
WiFi could be better; it used to be able to connect to my phone but not anymore there is also the issue of heating in the Friar Gate building, as its really cold outside at the moment Students are coming into class wearing coats as the ventilators are letting out cold air rather than heating
Studying at Derby has provided me with exceptional support as a student navigating learning challenges, enabling me to thrive academically. The lectures deliver a thorough exploration of theories and methodological applications in Psychotherapy, fostering creativity, critical awareness, and a depth of knowledge essential for professional and personal growth. I particularly value the dynamic nature of tutorials, where collaborative discussions and reflective learning enhance my understanding and align seamlessly with my learning preferences. The experience thus far has been profoundly inspiring and transformative, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. I am deeply grateful for the invaluable support and this life-changing opportunity. I feel respected and valued as a member of a team, and I would recommend this course to anyone who is thinking about a career as a therapist.
Great facilities very modern , resourceful library
Thank you for your fantastic review. We are glad to hear that you appreciate our modern facilities and libraries!
Firstly, wish to applaud the university on the choice of requirements for enrolment into the university and their structured academic timetable and availability of study material especially the Udemmy App. The app alone highlights everything a student will ever search for as related to studies, social and academic activities. I’m pleased with the overall performance.
This uni is great! The food is great, there's loads of places to sit, and everyone is very friendly and helpful, There's lots of different clubs to choose from, and there's often interesting things being sold in the atrium. Overall this is a great uni and I love coming in!
The general exprience of the University in its self has been wonderful. Perfect learning experience as well as a splendid services such as, the interenet amongst others.

I love learning at the University of Derby, from the state of the art equipment, to the friendly and helpful lecturers, and even the great social spaces in and around the university, there's really no where you could go wrong with coming to Derby Uni.

We are proud of our state of the art equipment, welcoming and friendly culture and have a diverse range of social spaces to suit our studnets needs. We wish you the very best of luck with the rest of your studies!
I came to Derby after being in work for 10 years and not being too sure want my future held. I started on a computer games art course and never looked back. The things I have done and been a part of have changed the way I see life and my future prospects. The lecturers on the course were very knowledgeable and easy to chat with any time. Class sizes on my course were 20-30 people meaning I had plenty of engagement with the lecturers and was able to really thrive. While there is some issues around communication from the University itself and sometime they change things before consulting students. The students themselves have a huge amount of power to challenge the University and make sure that course and facilities are kept to the high standard that they are. I am currently Studying a MA in Design and it has been a great journey so far.
The University of Derby is a great and rewarding university with many facilities and study areas to choose from. The halls are generally really well kept and are very cozy however the Internet connections at halls and I'm some campus areas are unreliable.
The university has an array of opportunities for students to get involved in, emphasising the integral need for student voice in fun activities like social activities/life and topics like working or improvement suggestions.
My time at Derby Uni has been fantastic! The campus is welcoming, the faculty are supportive, and there are plenty of opportunities for both academic and personal growth. The facilities are modern, and I feel well-prepared for my future career. Accommodation: I stayed at Princess Alice Court, and it’s truly award-winning. The rooms are spacious and well-maintained, with excellent kitchen and communal areas. The location is perfect—close to campus, shops, and transport. The accommodation team is always friendly and helpful. Final Thoughts: I highly recommend both the university and its accommodation. It’s a great place to live, learn, and make lasting memories!
my university experience has been great in the 3 years of study. The sports societies are amazing and always a positive atmosphere on BUCS Wednesdays. The campus facilities are amazing with various food options and often have local small businesses on campus selling their stuff.
Lovely, thank you! Tutors are nice, and friendly

Socially, the university fosters a welcoming environment through its various clubs, societies. Overall, the University of Derby has proven to be a great place for personal and professional growth, offering a supportive community and numerous opportunities for success.
I have studied here for over 3 years and the geology and GeoEnergy courses have been amazing with quality teaching and interaction
Great facilities and methods of teaching, also, good internet/wifi all around campus.
very good uni can’t really complain too much however some lecturers aren’t the best but obviously this depends on the course

I started studying at the Chesterfield St Helena Campus in September. The staff and students are wonderful and I am finding it easy to settle in and understand what is needed of me. Because this campus is much smaller, it is easier to interact with my peers and get help if needed.
The University of Derby provides an excellent academic environment with a focus on practical learning, supportive staff, and modern facilities, ensuring students are well-prepared for future career opportunities.
Thank you for your fantastic review, it's lovely to hear that you value the University's great offerings!
Going to the University of Derby has been a great experience for me. After leaving the Armed Forces after 8 years, I have been able to gain valuable connections with industry and have been working as a mechanical engineer part-time during my studies. A minor point is that this University is where large companies such as Rolls Royce, JCB, and JLR send their apprentices to, so there is a divide between full-time and part-time students. I would like to see more support for future full-time students and making use of these industry links. As a future engineer, it is vital to gain industry experience. Professors and lecturers are very supportive and know you by your first name.
I enjoyed my student halls experience, the uni hosts many events and gets students involved, I joined a society this year and feel it has benefited me fitness and social wise. I also thrive academically due to support from lecturers
Thank you for your great review. It's fantastic to hear that you've enjoyed your halls experience and the range of events you can get involved in. We are glad to hear that you've joined a society and that you are performing acadmically due to the lecturers support! Keep up the good work.
