The Joseph wright centre is a good school environment but with the cost of very bad WiFi
Excellent university, they provide a huge range of courses which most universities around the country do not offer. The staff genuinely care about the student’s learning and will help you with everything they possibly can. First year is incredibly important as they encourage you to try a lot of new things and you are able to see for yourself the huge lengths that staff go to to help accompany your learning. The library resources, lecturers, staff, online resources, student well-being, student Union and Campus facilities are great. Would highly recommend to any people considering Derby.
A lot of things were shut off due to COVID. As everything was online, the only times I actually went into the main keddleston campus was to go to subway. I know the university experience was limited due to COVID, but I saw other universities still seeming to have a lot of fun and opening social spaces as quickly as they could, this wasn’t really the case for derby uni and so socialising was terribly difficult.
The BEST university. Cannot fault it here, the staff are very helpful and the education I have received here is unmatched. Facilities are incredible and the course I do - mechanical engineering - is very stimulating. Cannot stress how much I recommend this place.
The Univerisity of Derby has been a great space for both personal, academic and social growth. They provide a lovely sense of community and the lecturers I have can be very welcoming and supportive.
Decent amount of support during covid and understanding lecturers. Very helpful student support.
Amazing place. Amazing staffs. Spacious and lots of activities and job opportunities available to students and staffs
One of the greatest Computer Science departments I have seen. They do really care about all of the courses that they allow you to study.
A great place to study if you are looking for a small city! Campus is very modern.
University of Derby is a good University with a range of opportunities and courses to choose from. With societies, clubs and social events it makes it easier to get to know people while having fun
Great first year can’t wait to carry on
nice and friendly, it large and it help you study hard
It depends on which campus your course is at really, but the main site is amazing.
it’s a nice uni especially for my course
Been a lovely experience and walking around campus is enjoyable as there are lots of things to attract students!
Really really really really really good
Amazing facilities, good student place
I am currently on my 3rd year of studies as a Business Management student and I have to say that my 3 years in the University of Derby was an amazing experience. That’s why I chose to do my masters degree in derby next year
I'm grateful for the opportunity to study at the University of Derby. It's like a dream comes true. The campus provides the best possibilities to exceed our learning opportunities. The staff are very welcoming and always willing to help you out. The university cares about you and your well-being and tries to do the best to provide you with the most amazing experiences during your studies.
Honestly had everything you want in a university and more, the nicest campus and sports facilities and in a great location.
Very nice main campus with a huge library
Very very good University, as an international student they are one of the best! Very helpful and good at making you feel at home :)
Only been to the university a couple times this year
The university provides a great experience to learn and develop skills
The WiFi is not the best but the services are great.
Uni is good and campus is always busy with many things to do .
Awesome uni, happy to help, brilliant courses
The University of Derby is an incredible place. As an international student, I'm grateful to the Uni for being so accepting and the staff for helping me out with anything I'd need. The people I've met here are also amazing, and I'm sure lots of them will be friends for life.
Nice sized university and campus. Lots of societies, clubs and events to join. Free uni bus service. Nice fashion and textiles facilities.
Exgelllent ttttttttttttttttttttt
Overall it’s an okay university. There are lectures who are amazing and really want the students to do well and are so helpful
Great university! Lecturers are very knowledgeable and highly involved in the industry that they are teaching. Facilities are great which allows delivering very high-quality practical teaching on-site.
Stylish and modern campus, great free transport for students.
Great university with lots of support and activities to take part in. Unfortunately I have been unable to take advantage of these personally due to COVID-19
Highly professional tutors. Very conducive learning environment with great campus facilities especially student break out spaces
Love the ras especially callum
Overall a good university to go to
Very unorganised Uni especially the Engineering department. Half of the lectures teach outdated/useless stuff and have no idea what subject they are actually meant to teach. And most importantly these lectures have very little industry experience. The uni also feels more like a school than an actual higher education teaching facility. The staff that are required to structure and deal with complaints from students are fake and don’t actually change anything based on student feedback. In addition all the official statistics and feedback from the courses are not real as for my course many students were not satisfied with the quality of lectures and the course overall, but for some reason the statistics for the course show otherwise. There is absolutely no real help from Careers Service. They showed a couple of websites that everyone looking for opportunities already uses without their help. But at least the WiFi is good.
I have previously completed undergraduate and masters degrees at Bangor then moved to Derby to undertake a professional level course at masters level. Worst decision of my life to be frank. There are no ends of problems from enrolment to just accessing time table. One year I did not receive my time table for an entire semester and the university excused it by saying "enrolment is not a smooth time, there will always be problems." or "other people have issues with their time tables as well." The stress was that bad I had to have time off from study from a mental break down. I returned this year to EXACTLY the same problems the year before, only told when the course begins 3 days before it starts, no information about enrolment no timetable access an the university cannot even inform student finance of my enrolment once it was completed. Going from top 5 universities to bottom 40 is indeed a hard shock to the system.
I was lied to at the open evening by lecturers so that I would enrol. The course was disorganised and some of the lecturers that we had were not knowledgeable enough in the field. The content of the course was not engaging enough. I tried to find help as I wanted to leave. But that was also dreadful and I ended up being stuck on a course that I did not like.
Relatively small university with a good community feel, also great for me as a mature student as there are other people my age on my course. Modern facilities are nice
I actually really like this university, the facilities are pretty good, good societies (particularly sports ones), good job prospects. But the main problem I have is the degree I am on is an utter shambles.
Good environment. Very nice student life here.
University of Derby is cash oriented company and it’s not Education service provider. They fail the students so they can pay extra for resits also there staff are absolutely racist towards for Africans.
Good university, tries to do a lot for its students.
I remember coming here to read the comments before enroling for a course with UDOL. There were more people for the Uni than against it. So I concluded it would not be so bad. Enroling was the greatest mistake of my life. 1 lecturer takes 4 out of 7 courses, they treat student like high school pupils, non-interactive lessons co-joined with unsupportive and discriminatory facilitators. Get ready for some subtle victimisation if you speak up. Be their guest if you have a few pounds (in thousands) to trade for little or no value.
Coming to the end of first and I can honestly say I have had a blast. I have really felt supported on my course and my some great people from across the world. Derby has some great facilities for sports and diverse societies. Plus the nightlife is fun and importantly safe, all pubs, clubs and bars and walk away. The city itself has everything you need and is hectic like some other bigger cities surrounding in the area like Birmingham. 5/5 experience.
Person is ????? They can discriminate if they don’t like you.
This is the worst, most disorganised university I have ever seen. There is no help or support and the services provided are awful and inadequate, overall, I do not recommend.
Fantastic Uni, you just need to go to Nottingham for a good night out
Good social life, good middle ground campus with lots of shops etc. Wellbeing service and dr’s are amazing and very helpful. Quite far from town but buses run for free.
My 3 years studying at Derby University has been a positive experience overall and would recommend to other students looking to go to uni
Go to chesterfield campus. Staff in library good others are rotten. No tutorial support.admin staff rude
Lovely building there is always a buzz on campus, it's smaller than Derby itself but that's great. There are two cafes and a restaurant.
Lovely staff the facilities are up to amazing standards!!
Great university. Love it here
The lecturer’s are amazing but the union lets the uni down
Absolutely amazing wouldn’t change it
Coming from Ireland, this is the best decision I’ve ever made from accommodation to my course.
Average uni. Terrible disability support team. Highly discriminating no support given
-Good facilities -Amazing lecturers -Free buses to and from uni -Nice learning environment -Silent and group study areas in the library
I spent 3 years here and I have to say it was an absolute joke. I was discriminated against by lecturers and the students union because of my mental health. I was told that I would not get my degree because I had been depressed previously due to my circumstances - to their surprise I managed it. Societies are expensive and not worth it, and you only benefit from the facilities and anything the union offers if you’re located at the main campus. Otherwise you’re pretty much forgotten. Only good thing was that they made all uni buses free to students with a derby student card.
All new facilities with caring and insightful faculty
Where to begin? Just finished 2nd year, lecturers slow to release grades, answer emails. Joined the rock society in 1st year and ended up playing some crap quiz, left after 20 minutes what a waste of money. Whenever you go to one of the nightclubs (Walkabout, Mosh, MooMoos) you are guaranteed to bump into people you know as everyone seems to know each other there. For second year, I was given 2 optional modules to pick, both unrelated to my course and so myself and the rest of my coursemates struggled to have an understanding of the module for the entirety of the year. Absolutely dreading my final year due to lack of information and communication from lecturers. I also feel that as I am doing a sport course and the uni is a Derby County sponsor, that sport students should receive discounts on tickets rather than the very occasional cheap ticket. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this uni.
Lecturers don't know my name, course offers opportunities based on gender (usually towards women). If you don't suck up to the lecturers then you are treated differently. Student union is only open during the week days and is usually empty. There are no societies worth joining and they all cost through the nose. The guest lecturers are good but the rules discussed in first year went out the window and we were quickly given the roles as Guinea pigs for the first and second years. Would not recommend at all.
Need to open on Saturday at chesterfield
It's an amazing uni with so much to offer. It hasn't failed to surprise me.
There were no societies that sparked my interest and the student union bar closes at 5pm. It would be much better if it opened until later in the evening as it would be a nice place to hang out with students and socialise after the working day finishes.
Great uni with future opportunities
Good teaching facilities and faculty for sciences.
Keeps on improving under every aspect, teaching, library, facilities etc. Only wish there were more postgraduate courses to choose.
Love this Univeristy they help and cater to you when you need help the most.
My college had better equipment than here. Everything else is good but they uni dont care about the students. The students have to look after one another. Some of the staff are terrible while others have to pick up the slack.
Very well sold courses, they lie very well about services and what your course will offer - dont take what they say at face value
I love this university so much, the support is incredible and I cannot being to explain how much I would recommend you going and having a look around!
The uni itself is okay, societies are awful no one behind them, student union may as well be non existent, Derby is an awful place to live with nothing happening unless you like getting the train to Nottingham every time you want to do something. Dropped out, waste of my time
Poor. Staff are only bothered about climbing the greasy pole. Don't care about students
Although we aren’t based at the main campus it’s quite nice. We can easily get to it to access other services
Just wanna say that I u don't get jobs from the careers n employment centre then pls ask if tutors to get u in touch through networking events. It helps a lot.
First year experience was great, independent study but help is needed if required
Best university ever! My business management course has a CMI accreditation! I felt part of a community since day 1.
Good Teaching, Great welfare support but needs more facilities to use for students including a 24 your library in the city.
Our University is great even though we are in a smaller campus of derby uni - buxton
I’m in my 1st year, and student housing have already messed me about. Currently a resident at Agard court, I applied to live in cathedral next academic year, which was a complete mistake because I wanted to return to Agard. I called Housing and explained my situation, they told me that Agard was now full for returners (it wasn’t) and to email to be put onto the waiting list. Which I did. Eventually I was told I was on the waiting list (I wasn’t). I spoke to my halls manager who was very helpful and sent an email asking for me to move into one of the spare rooms in the next academic year. However, In the time all this went on, there’s a possibility that there will now be no available rooms left. With the stress of exams/coursework this really isn’t ideal and has left me very anxious. Not very impressed. Other than this issue, there are some good aspects (unibuses, library and campus gym are great) however, it would also be nice if there were more societies to join
The uni is very basic in terms of facilities
Chose here due to an unconditional offer. Biggest mistake ever. Courses are very unorganised. Union has nothing to do with students after freshers. Facilities and campuses are very underdeveloped. Wish I had optimism to pick a conditional offer from a better uni
Bullying lecturers and terrible communication only care about how their course looks and how the attendance and results of their class is dont care about the students
It’s a great university for learning and everything but if you’re looking for good night life and events this isn’t it
Whilst it’s not the biggest or the most prestigious. The small course sizes allows for a personal element, more similar to a 1 to 1 touch. Allowing for students to learn more in depth, and ask more questions with personal tutors who look after you academically as well as look after your well being. From what I’ve heard this is not the case at ‘bigger’ universities
Third year is been worst experience ever in life.
This is an amazing institution
Brill staff and teaching facilitates
Loving my experience so far as a fresher!
It’s an okay experience, have an amazing wellbeing service as well. Everything is near by and timetable ain’t as heavy
The amount of clubs and societies could be better as well as the amount of pubs and clubs for students.
Great place to learn and develop as an individual. Good social and academic advancement

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you are enjoying your time at Derby and feel as though we're supporting your growth. Callum
Love my course, I’m there more hours than other courses more for my money and I’m based in a professional dance house, unlike other BA Hons Dance courses I looked at else where. Lovely people, down to earth love the uni!

Thank you for your positive response. We work hard to ensure all our students have a great experience during their time at Derby. Our BA (Hons) Dance students are lucky to work with Alice Marshall (the programme leader and artistic director of Adaire to Dance) Callum
I am loving it at Derby University

It's great to hear that you're having an amazing time here! We love hearing that our students are with the University. Callum
Love my uni. They take into consideration everything and give us the best opportunities

Thanks for such positive feedback! We aim to ensure all our students have a voice and shape and develop the experience to get the most out of university. Callum
I feel like it hooks people in as it looks modern but the Internet doesn’t work in most areas of the campus, the buses to and from uni are constantly over full and the uni itself doesn’t have enough space for people to sit and eat lunch/ socialise during breaks. Furthermore, the SU are shocking with organising events. Freshers was crap just like last year, the can’t get a decent name to perform and it’s the same plan every year. Societies are dwidiling too but if you want to go to a uni to stand around and eat a brownie from brownie man or an overpriced meal deal from keddies, go to Derby!

Thank you for getting in contact. Over the summer we swapped out Wi-Fi network. For a better Wi-Fi connection can I suggest connecting to Eduroam. We value the feedback our students give and it is a vitial part in shaping the student experience. If you wouldn't mind, please could email us more information to marketing@derby.ac.uk and we can look in to this further. For feedback with regards to the Union of Students van I suggest dropping an email to the Union President (president@derbyunion.co.uk) Callum
