On the open day the course was falsely advertised by the lecturers of the course. Many things mentioned on the open day made it sound like the right university for me when it isn't

Would recommend to anyone, amazing services and support for people with disabilities and mental health issues.
We're glad to help anyone who may need extra care in their learning experience. Our Student Wellbeing team carefully triage all enquiries and create support plans where necessary for those with different conditions - we don't want to let any disabilities or mental health issues be a barrier to higher education. There's always a mental health practitioner on duty, who would see students in crisis. Ryan

Derby uni is well presented and a place of good education. Some lack of organisation but at the heart there are tutors who are really driven and passionate about the students and the subject.

I really enjoy studying at the University of Derby, mostly the facilities are great. It's great that there's an on-site GP surgery etc. The student wellbeing service could be improved slightly by adding in a duty/drop-in service for those whom are really desperate for help. The clubs and societies on offer are honestly great, there's lots available. I wish I had time to do more. Internet in the actual uni and in the accommodation isn't great, for example, we can only add 2 devices to the wifi when in halls.

The university it’s self is amazing, all the staff are friendly and happy to help and support you in any way shape or form. The facilities are good and there’s a range of different food places and shops
Thanks! The Union of Students provides some great outlets in Blends Coffee and their various quick shops (everything from sandwiches to hoodies!). We've got some great food options at each site, and Kedleston Road even has a Starbucks, Papa Johns and Subway as part of it's food offer. Not forgetting Blackwell's bookshop and Sally Montague hair salon... Ryan
Everyone is so friendly and the lecturers are always there to help. Always take a check in student wellbeing aswell because they always make life a little easier.

Student union, WHO ?? Don't exist at Buxton
We are sorry to hear your feedback about the Union of Students presence at the Buxton Campus. Have you looked at the Buxton Societies or Sports available? These include Events, Circus Skills, Film, Poker, Canoe & Kayak, and the Multicultural Society, all of which exist because of the commitment of our students. You can always drop in and talk to the Union at the Buxton Campus office too - you could find out what societies are close to having enough members, you might be the one who makes it :) Ryan
University of Derby Buxton campus, The dome is full of college students not a good atmosphere to learn in outdated halls.

The staff throughout the university are incredible, the lectures couldn't do more to help you when you need it. The student centre really care about the students and are amazing at explaining different routes and steps to help you access referrals. The facilities are extremely modern and we'll maintained. The library has a large array of materials and offer an incredible service. The best place ever.

Over the past 10 years we have invested over £150 million in our facilities to ensure our students have access to some of the most modern teaching spaces in the country.
Neat university - requires more course choices.
Thank you for your feedback. We try to offer a broad and appealing portfolio, and most students are able to find the course they're lookig for, or even create their own unique Joint Honours combination where subjects allow.
Uni of Derby is really good uni to go to. It has everything that a student can imagine. It has good facilities, good support and you get respect from everyone.

The Universtiy of Derby offers a lot of help to students accademically and has good facilities (although some coyld be improved, such as a 24 hour libary and modernised student living) but fails largely when it comes to the social side of university life. There a few societies and those which exsist offer very few events and activities. The university would benifit from a greater student union with a more rounded outlook on student lifestyle and living.
We are glad to hear you have had a good experience at Derby University. We are always listening to our students and aim to improve the experience. The libary does extend its opening hours during key assesment times, but last year we also opened a 24-hour study space at the new Union of Students venue '67 Bridge Street'. This is located beside our student accomodation, which is more convenient and appealing late at night. We are also in the process of refurbishing more of our halls bringing them in line with the modern standards of our newwest halls, Cathedral Court and the forthcoming Agard Court. Union of Students societys do require dedication to maintain and keep offering fresh experiences for their members. You may benefit from creating ot suggesting your own society.

Accommodation was disgusting and too far away from the university itself. When visiting student services, not much help was provided. You feel like the university only cares about money etc and not much about personal well-being. The university was not helpful when leaving at all.

Our accommodation consistently ranks highly, with most of our halls no more than 1.5 miles away from various sites, so it would be great to understand what aspect you feel we cam short on. We aim to offer support to all our students here at Derby, and have an excellent Student Wellbeing service, who can guide various student issues, including creating a support plan for those with additional learning requirments. Our Careers & Employment service is available throughout your time with us to help prepare when you finish your course, and offer opportunities like the recent "Gradfet". I study motorsport engineering. When you come on the open day it looks good with a full garage with a formula 4 car, a global light, a formula student car and a vauxhall vx220. Like i said, it LOOKS good. But the reality is that they cant keep the staff. The head of the garage recently left work at another university, leaving one person in charge with 1 apprentice to run any practices in the garage. Secondally, formula student. This year we had one meeting about formula student and then the whole thing went cold turkey. Not a peep. We did try to speak to someone about it, but the guy who was incharge of that had left also. So we set up a motorsports society - which gets no help form the motorsport facilities at all. If you do a foundation year, then it is even worse as you will see that tge foundation year goes into a lot more depth in terms of maths, engineering sciences and practicals. All in all, derby apears to be good, but there is still much to be desired.

Hated halls, poorly managed and lecturers were rude and unkind regarding mental health issues

So unorganised it’s unreal, lectures never hand back assingments on time. Exams are never handed back on the set date for no reason. Most staff are good lectures but poor time management especially with assignments and exams! The unorganisation of this course (Adult Nursing, Chesterfield Campus) is truely unacceptable and should not be accepted in such a professional degree.

Very disorganised, with everything including lecture times! This is a huge downfall! The organisation is extremely poor. Staff make you feel you can not get help from them. Don’t feel comfortable asking questions in most lectures, very uncomfortable feeling if you have a question and it is unanswered.

The facilities are really good, its a shame they can't retain the staff and communicate with the students properly at all. (Motorsport engineering degree)

Fantastic university. I transferred from a Leeds Beckett and I feel there is so much more support at derby in terms of workload/mental health/careers advice etc. The staff and students are always super helpful if you need to ask for directions or something. Fantastic uni and a great range of courses

Thanks for the feedback. Our lecturers, staff and students are the one who make the University what it is. We are very happy to have been rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Our Careers and Employment service work hard for our students, providing them with a variety of opportunities and workshops.
I will not be recommending the university of Derby to anyone in the future. The standard of teaching, facilities for learning and professionalism was below par. Dates in which assignment grades were supposed to be handed back to students along with feedback were to always met. There was no explanation as to why this was the case. Being a final year student and with two modules including the disseration not being handed back on the propsed date is not acceptable espeically without no explanation as to why this is the case. In my final year I was required to do a module in my final year with another colleague however they did not contribute at all to the work which resulted in me doing all of the work. When the lecturer was addressed by me about the issues, they did not help me one bit and told me that it is the way it is, which ended up affecting my grade for the module overall. Explanations about assignements are poor and computing software and hardware is poor.

If you still this issue had not been resloved adequately then you could raise these issues in a formal complaint, as detailed in our complaints procedure on our website. Uni is okay but the car parking facilities are dreadful! I have to park further away which costs more money and are left at “owners risk”. Also, it’s at a park that has been known for people being attacked, so doesn’t feel very safe when walking there alone, especially when it’s dark earlier in winter!
Thanks for getting intouch. With regards to parking, unfortunately our capacity is extremely limited, and therefore has to be prioritised for those with expectional requirements. With regards to parking at Markeaton Park, we do offer a bus serivce which runs via the park to our campus. You can park at Kedleston Road after 4:30pm for late night lectures to avoide walking back through the park. Further information can be found via our website.

We do have the car park open and free for Students after 4:30pm, for those students with late night lectures. Buxton- Poorly managed campus, no diversity of any kind and sharing with public and college kids totally ruins the overall university experience.

Because of being situated in the grade II listed Devonshire Dome, our Buxton Campus offers a very diffrent experience to our Derby campus. But we belive the subjects based there benefit from being in a town noted for being a tourism destination. We've worked hard to ensure the same resources are available to all our students, including the career & Emploment service, and IT services. Very good, great sports facilities and clubs to join

Has been an overall positive experience being a UofD student staff are very supportive and the course is brilliant for me. only negatives for me was coming from a large city I thought it was very small but that can’t be helped. I’m addition there need to be more facilities at smaller campuses as I at Brittania millfulll time sometimes feel excluded from events that take place at kedelston road

Its a small campus compred to other unis, but i prefer that because i freak out when things are too crowded and big, the staff give loads of 1:1 help, and the halls aren’t too bad (especially the newer ones, be wary of older/cheeper halls). Not much of a nightlife in derby, students make the most of whats there, but otherwise its a good uni and in a nice city that also isnt too big to be getting lost in

We aim to keep our accomodation in the best condition and have recenlty invested in two new buildings to house our students in. We recently opened Cathedral Court in September 2016, and are looking forward to our newest accomodation Agard Court opening this September. While we have also invested in new buildings, we are also busy refurbishing our older accomodation too. Nunnery Court has recently been refurbished and this summer we see St Christopher's Court undergoing a refurb.

Not supportive in extracurricular activities such as Erasmus or Formula Student. Things take ages to proceed.
There are many great things about University of Derby! So many opportunities to progress, enhance experience and skills, employment and internships. Great support services especially student well-being and mental health. Awesome facilities that invoke research opportunities. Have a look around! There's many campuses. Great place to study and achieve more.
The facilities on my campus are limited and no students stay on campus for longer than they have to. I joined a society in first year but we had two meetings to discuss what would happen and that was it. I actually couldn't tell you anything about the students Union or much about the careers service. I had a meeting with them once but they just told me to look online. Had trouble in the past with the WiFi not working and some areas of the building disconnect you from the WiFi. Other areas of the uni better and the uni isn't terrible but on the ratings mentioned it could improve. Overall, if you put effort in at home you'll do well on paper.

Personally, I did not receive that grades I wanted at a level and I cane to Derby through cleaning. Don’t let that stigma say anything about you because I’m now on track to finish with a high 1st class honours and the opportunities that have been made available to me are amazing, the support is great, personal tutors are second to none and the all round a great uni!

Amazing University. I have just finished my Second year in Marketing (PR & Advertising), my course leader (Maria) is amazing. She never makes you feel like she doesn't have time for you, she will go out her way to resolve an issue or support you. People like Maria are the reason the Business school is the 10th best in the country. Most of the lectures on the Business school are amazing and really supportive. I can not recommend Derby Business School enough. Being someone who was not originally going to go to University, DBS have engaged me back with education. The amazing thing about my degree is it is hard work, but it doesn't feel like school or sixth form did. The Marketing degree have been cleverly devised to make you work ready. Live briefs make you understand what you would be doing in the world of work. My course leader, the business school and most of the marketing team have all guided and supported me, and are the reason I am currently working in an internship role.

AVOID I have been to a few universities but never have I seen such chaos. The learning material is full of errors, my tutor has been rude, vague and unhelpful and missed many mistake when correcting some weekly activities leading me to a lot of confusion. The marking is very inconsistent and my course leader has been very unhelpful. After a year I am looking at moving my credits to another university and probably bring many people from my course with me.

I had a problem in my personal life and all members of the uni I had approached were so supportive! My personal tutor is a god send! Rebekah Marangon is amazing at her job, she has always supported me, encouraged me and always pushed me to reach my potential, couldn’t praise her enough.

Studied 3d animation course, the first year was worth nothing and felt completely unnecessary and unplanned. In the first year we had 4 different tutors, none of which were the course leader. I stuck around and hoped year 2 would be better. Nope! In true first semester one tutor pretty much never showed up leading for her sessions to be merged with the film and TV students doing the exact same as we did in the first year! The actual 3d animation part was hopeless! Get taught for 45 minutes then a lone work project to do 90% of it at home using Google to guide you.... If I'd have known this I would've accepted Birmingham instead!

It has been amazing everything and more you can expect from a university
Decent university buildings and the majority of the lecturers are dedicated to their work, but the social side of the uni is terrible. Hardly any good societies, and not a lot of spaces around the uni buildings to socialise either.

Good city, halls are well placed and the uni buildings are all top. Decent nightlife and opportunities, in and out of the uni.

A close friend of mine passed away and I needed time off to go home, when I returned I was diagnosed with severe depression. I went to speak to the heads of foundation and they told me to ‘get over it, everyone has lost people’. My friend died in a tragic accident and was missing for 2 days, this was reported on sky news and they were very aware of the situation. The same was said when I lost a family member from a long term illness 3 months later, I received a call from them on the day of his funeral asking for a copy of the Death cirtificate. The whole situation was handled very unprofessionally and lacked every ounce of empathy. When I failed my year due to all these issues I went to speak to them about my options and the fact that I was currently unable to return to my shared house due to risk of violence they told me to collect benefits and get a council house. I was shut down when I tried to make a complaint. The teaching is lacking, it’s all pre made powerpoints, nothing Else

You could also make an appointment with theUnion of Students, as they offer advice on academic issues including offences, appeals and issues affecting personal studies; student conduct, complaints and disciplinaries.
Derby university isn’t the worst but I also can’t think of anything amazing that stands out. Shops on campus are useful, library is okay, there are never enough places to sit with your friends but if you want to sit alone you’ll find somewhere. Courses are well planned in terms of modules - modules themselves tend to be unorganised and dates/deadlines are a bit up in the air rather than having a set date, which is confusing. Lecturers themselves (on my course anyway) were nice and did their job but I wouldn’t say they went above or beyond.

internet always drops out, student union are no help whatsoever, campus is basically a building site
Hi, thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry you had a negative experience with your internet. The Wi-Fi in our halls is currently being updated for the second time this year, however if this is still the case please contact your Halls Manager or the Halls Customer Service Team. Also there are two internet options for you at the campus itself, the best option for current staff and students is Eduroam.
The University of Derby is a really diverse institution, spread over various campuses in different locations in and around the city. It is accepting of all students, no matter who they are or where they come from and has a wide range of societies and clubs which help to celebrate this. Boasting a great Joint Honours scheme which allows students to combine two subjects into one degree that has hundreds of different combinations, Derby Uni also provides excellent academic support, and has degrees to suit each and every prospective student. The night-life is also really good, because it is a relatively small city, UoD students form a community network so on nights out you always see someone that you know, and everyone looks out for each other. Do not really have a bad thing to say about Derby, I have loved my time there and do not want it to be over!
Great uni with wide range of courses! The campus is super modern and there is free bus transport around the city, great town and accommodation too.
Unorganised staff and lectures, we were promised a new photography studio which we have never got

The University which provides many opportunities. English students are not kind with students from different countries.

My course is disorganised and can’t get grades back to students in sufficient time.

The University of Derby is a modern, well equipped university which offers amazing surroundings and amazing teaching. I’m in the Law Campus (One Friar Gate) and the teaching staff are absolutely first rate. The technology is very advanced and they care about what the students think. I would highly recommend the University of Derby
The university itself is brilliant, but the lack of organisation between staff members lets it down
Going here was the worse choice of my life. Only reason I enjoy Derby is for the friends I’ve made and social aspect

I’m a first year Law student and I am glad I chose the University of Derby. It has an amazing careers service and facilities.
Amazing teachers and tutors. Lecture halls big and plenty of classrooms. Library's modern and up to date and easy to use. Student halls cleaned regularly and hall support is good too. Lots to do and places to go as trips for cheap.
A smallish uni with a lot going for it. Always exciting things happening in the Atrium.

Thanks for your feedback. Have you tried connecting to Eduroam for WI-Fi for a better singnal? Connecting to Eduroam is fairly easy to do.
Derby is a lovely small university, it’s very supportive. It also offers so many opportunities for students who don’t have as much as money as others. I highly recommend.
The university provides support to anyone who needs it and has a plethora of courses which are expanding every year at different stages from foundation to PhD. There are over 100 societies to choose from so have a look and you're sure to find something you like. If not you can set it up.
Really supportive university, with work experience guaranteed. It is very clean and full of resources. The internet WiFi is free and brilliant! Much better than even the university of Birmingham
I have really enjoyed my first semester at University of Derby, my course content is really interesting and the teaching staff very helpful!
It’s okay have nothing to compare it to
I’ve had many issues with lecturers, there’s no consistency, most of the clubs are ran poorly and so are many of the facilities. On campus most students aren’t informed of Edurom and Unifi doesn’t work so most are restricted to the cloud which has a three hour limit. In halls I’ve had WiFi speeds as low as 0.5mb/s. Other than that the facilities are clean and fit for purpose. A lot of investment has gone into the uni. Students are listened to some of the time and the students union opened up a 24 your revision centre/bar/coffee shop which is the best thing they’ve done
