Flamsteed Court Biography
This postgraduate hall of residence is set back in the quiet grounds of the Kedleston Road campus and on the Unibus route to both Allestree and the city centre.
Literally minutes away from the University’s Sports Centre, main library and other student services, Flamsteed Court is also just across the road from Markeaton Park. This small hall accommodates a community of around 60 postgraduate and mature students in two bedroomed apartments.
Each apartment comprises of two en suite, double bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen including a washer/dryer and an open-plan kitchen/dining/living space with everything you need for hassle-free living. There is a small car park and outdoor space. Adapted rooms are also available at this hall.
The majority of the flats at Flamsteed Court are designed for two students, who share a kitchen and social space, whilst still benefiting from having their own en-suite bedroom. Each room is equipped with a cosy bed, storage space and study area, making your room as simple as can be.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Excellent facilities and location. Very satisfied.
We really value your feedback about Flamsteed Court. We're so glad you're happy there. For those who don't know, Flamsteed Court is comprised of two bedroom apartments for PG and mature students and it's right on the doorstep on our main site at Kedleston Road so it's close to the Sports Centre, main library, Union of Students and Multi-Faith Centre .
Good accommodation site. It is a good distance to the university.
Thanks for your feedback on Flamsteed Court. People really do appreciate the ideal location of this hall which is literally minutes from the main University site at Kedleston Road, as well as being just a stones throw from the Sports Centre and Library and literally across the road from Markeaton Park, one of Derby's finest. Not only that but there is a free Unibus service on the doorstep to take you into the city centre and the bus and railway stations!
Flamsteed Court is an excellent place to live. It is right by the library and the gym and a big, beautiful park. It is extremely spacious and conducive for studying. The halls staff are absolutely brilliant and look after you very well.
Thanks for the great review of Flamsteed Court. It really is well situated close to the main Kedleson Road site with a bus stop to Allestree or the city centre literally on the doorstep.
It is placed in a convient location if your course is at ked road
Thanks for that great score for Flamsteed Court. For those who don't already know, Flamsteed Court is in a great location for courses at the main site of Kedleston Road. It's also literally two minutes away from the Sports Centre and main Library and across the road from Marketpn Park. There is also a FREE unibus stop right in front of the hall that takes you to the other study centres and the city centre.
the hall amnager is a great guy, really helpful and quite responsive, expensive place to live tho
We're really pleased you like living at Flamsteed Court. Thanks for the lovely feedback about the Manager. In regard to the price, you're right - it is more expensive than other en suite rooms as it comes with an open plan living area and that is only shared with one other person. Also at Flamsteed Court you get a proper bath/shower room as opposed to an en suite cubicle. For these reasons it is slightly more expensive than other en suite options. For alternative and cheaper en suite rooms check out Peak Court, Darley Bank and Agard Court.
I can confidently say it's been a fantastic experience. From the moment I moved in, the staff made me feel right at home with their warm welcome and support. The rooms are not only comfortable but also well-maintained, providing a perfect environment for both studying and relaxation. The community atmosphere here is unmatched; I've made lifelong friends and cherished memories during my time here. Plus, the convenient location near campus makes it ideal for balancing academic and social life.
Wow, thank for the top score for Flamsteed Court. It's lovely to hear that you're having such a great experience and making good memories.
Flamsteed Court is a great accommodation for students. It is located in a very quiet area surrounded by grass and trees. The flats are very big and spacious, especially the living room, and they are shared with only one other person. It is extremely close to Kedleston Campus, to the Sport Centre, and the multi-faith centre. This accommodation doesn't have a common room, however, from this year, there are often events organised exclusively for Flamsteed Court for students to join. Students can also still take part to all the other events organised by the other student accommodations. Lastly, If there is any issue in the flat, it is quickly addressed by the RAs and solved in a short time. I really recommend this site if you are looking for a more quiet, comfortable but still fun and fulfilling student experience.
Thank you for your generous score for Flamsteed Court. This hall is ideal for older students who are returning for their second and third years of study or postgraduate students who want a different, more relaxed hall experinec.
I spent 3 years here and always felt safe. Accommodation is good value for money and the staff are very helpful. Good transport links into town although it is close enough to walk if the weather is good!
Thank you for your review. We're glad to hear you had such a good time at Flamsteed Court that you stayed for three years! You're right it is walkable - just nice to know there are buses if the weather's bad or you're feeling lazy. It's also great to have a pleasant green space right on your doorstep in the form of Markeaton Park!
Great location if studying at Kedleston Campus, decent sized double bedroom with ensuite, kitchen has everything you'd need and the lounge/dining area is very spacious. Only annoyance is carpark for residents used to be free and now is £330 for the year.
Thanks Joshua for that great score for Flamsteed Court. We’re glad you're enjoying the convenience of living at Flamsteed Court with it's well equipped kitchen with a washer dryer and spacios opne plan living. We agree, it IS a great location if you are studying at Kedleston Road as it's close to the Sports Centre, University Library and other facilities with Markeaton Park and bus tops on your doorstep. We're sorry tht you're annoyed about the parking charge but actually Flamsteed Court residents are extremely lucky to get parking so cheaply at such a premium spot. The annual fee works out at £1.07 per day for the 44 week contract which is amazing value for money when you think that many people pay £5.20 for up to 4 hours to park at Kedleston Road.
Staying at Flamsteed Court is truly a home away from home experience. The benefit of staying here is access to uni buildings within minutes no matter how bad (snowy/rainy) the weather conditions or transport arrangements are.The flat is very well equipped with all things one could possibly wish for en-suite, spacious living room, kitchen sharing with one extremely friendly flat mate made me feel I made the right decision booking it ahead of time. The view from the flat is amazing my room window has a delightful view to wake up to- lush green grounds and Sports Centre plus throughout the day I ca see uni buses movement from -to uni (Mon-Fri).From Living room window I can see uni and the Kitchen one is right where sunrises :).It is really quiet and peaceful and that is all one needs at the end of each day isn't it? The RAs are really friendly and arrange activities like movie/pizza/sports nights for residents. Try it out for yourself and enjoy your time at uni :)
Whoop Whoop! Thanks for that top score for Flamsteed Court. We’re so glad you're happy there and feel at home. You're right it is in a great location, literally two minutes from the Sports Centre, main library and Kedleston Road campus. It's also just accross the road from Markaeton Park and there is a bus stop right outside to take you into the city centre or towards Allestree. Flamsteed Court is mainly aimed at our more mature or postgraduate students as it promotes more independent open plan living with less staff intrusion. Residents love it for the sheer convenience :)
Excellent hall manager and staff, Close location to main university campus and within walking distance. Internet can be a bit hit and miss sometimes.
Thanks for the great review about Flamsteed Court. We're glad you love the convenient location and the staff but we're really sorry to hear you've had a few issues with the internet. If this happens again, we suggest you call the Glide helpline on 0333 1230115 or feed back you concerns to a member of staff.
Flamsteed Court is a great place for those looking for more independence and to get away from the noisy nightlife that comes with other accommodations. The site provides plenty of parking space for students with cars and I feel secure knowing there is 24/7 security right next door by the university and plenty of camera coverage within the court. The staff are very friendly and do everything they can to help. It's nice being so close to the university as it allows me to have lay-ins even when I have morning classes, and the gym is only across the road too. There's a nice pub called the Jonty farmer, an excellent barber, pharmacist, and several shops nearby. Markeaton park is also right across from me and is a beautiful place to go for a walk or to socialise. The residential team provide events every month to get us all socialising and give us a break from our work to make up for the lack of common room. Overall though, Flamsteed Court is a great place to live.
We're so glad that you're enjoying your time at Flamsteed Court. It definitely offers a quieter, more grown-up expereince and is ideal for mature and postgraduate students. There isn't a laundry on site, as each apartment has its own washer dryer and although there is no common room, residents are welcome to join in events at other halls.
As a mature student I think it is the perfect place to stay. First of all the accommodation is located in a very quiet spot surrounded by trees and a nice meadow which contribute to a relaxed atmosphere. The site and the residents are very calm, which is perfect to concentrate on your studies. The best thing is that it is located on Kedleston campus, so you are just 3 minutes walking from university and it takes even less time to reach the Sport centre or the multi-faith centre. There is also a private parking. The rooms are en suite with shower and some of them have bath tubes. The rooms might not be very spacious but they are well furnished. The flat living room/kitchen instead is really spacious and it is shared with just one more person. Even if there isn't a common room on site, the living rooms are spacious enough to have small gatherings. There are not many events at Flamsteed, but you can join other accommodations events. Staff is really nice and helpful.
Thank you for your review. It sounds like you've really settled in at Flamsteed Court . As you say, it is in a lovely spot, tucked away, surrounded by trees, close to Markeaton Park and yet literally only minutes away from the University and its facilties. There is also a bus stop on your doorstep which is ideal for getting to the city centre or Allestree and there are amenities close by as well as two good pubs, The Creaky Floorboard and the Jonty Farmer.
I have lived here in my first year of uni, as a mature student it is perfect, peaceful and quiet. And if you are based at Kedleston Road site it’s right on your doorstep. While it is the most expensive halls you do get extra comforts for the price - for example, all bedrooms are en suite and some even have a bath and a shower, there is also a washer/dryer in the kitchen which you do not have to pay for. The small car park for this halls is also free for residents unlike other sites. The bedrooms are considerably larger than the other halls and while there is no common room the kitchen/dining room/living room is large for just 2 people sharing one flat. You do have to clean the flats yourself but as mature students or postgraduate students this probably doesn’t bother you and the entrance hallways which are cleaned are very good as well as the garden/grass/bushes being kept neat and tidy. Even though there are no social events at Flamsteed you are free to attend other sites events.
Hi there, We’re so glad you liked living at Flamsteed Court. It is so convenient for Kedleston Road and the Sports Centre is literally two minutes walk away. Also the bus stop for buses to other halls and the city centre is on your doorstep too. Since you wrote this review we have added a charge for parking. For 2023-24 the annual charge for cars is £330 and £170 for motorbikes. That works out as £1.07 a day for cars and 55p a day for motorbikes. Also all our halls events are open to Flamsteed residents.
Paying 6000.00 for a double room in a flat of 2 which will be the same price for all sizes which when some are twice the size as the rest. Some flats have 4 star hotel quality bathrooms and some look like there from the 80s council houses. Staff are great but not on site enough. Close proximity to kedlestone road campus is great
Thanks for your feedback on Flamsteed Court . We do now have differential pricing where we charge a different rate for the rooms that haven't been refurbished recently. We're glad you liked the location close to Kedleston Road and all its facilities , literally across the road from the Sports Centre and Markeaton Park and near the Unibus stop to the city centre or Allestree.
