Q&A
Block 5 is the nearest block to the common room. If you would like to see a plan please email us and we will happily send one.
Our small double beds are 4ft x 6ft 3inches and some people do call them a 3/4 bed. I hope that helps with bringing your bed linen. Of course you can use a normal double duvet. It's just the fitted sheet you need to get exactly right. Check our website for more information about moving in, including what to bring.
At St Christopher's Court flats are for three to six people sharing.
Graduate entry medical students are always put together in the same blocks. This year (2023 entry) they represent about 8% of the total number of residents but they are still applying so that could go up.
At St Christopher's Court, all the ensuite rooms are based in the coach house which is the wide arched building you can see on pictures of the hall. In the ground floor flats there are three rooms sharing a kitchen, then on the first floor there are for rooms sharing a kitchen and on the top floor it's six people sharing a kitchen.

The staff are brill and help as much as possible.
Thanks for this high score for St Christopher's Court. As well as having friendly and helpful staff, this hall is ideally located near to several University sites and also close to the city centre. There's also a Unibus stop literally outside the hall and a supermarket a few minutes away!
There should be more events at SCC. Nothing is ever here. Also, more international students interaction/events related. Besides that, everything is great. Management and staff are great!! Would like to kindly say a special thank you to Angie, Kim, Kelvin, Adam and RA Elise! Thank you for making this year at St. Christopher’s Court even better!! See you all soon!
Thanks for your valuable feedback on St Christopher's Court. We've passed on your comments about events and international students to the Residence Life Manager. Otherwise thankyou for your great feedback and thanks to the staff. We're so glad you find threm to be a friendly, helpful bunch! So much so, it sounds like you're back for another year.
No complaints. All maintenance issues are sorted promptly.
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. It's nice to hear that maintenance problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently. St Christopher's is also conveniently close to a supermarket, Britannia Mill and Markeaton Street and the Unibus stop is literally on the doorstep.

Thanks for your feedback about St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you like the table tennis, pool table, PS4, DVD player & large smart TV in the common room. We often get positive feedback about the size of the bedrooms at this hall and the ample storage space which people particularly like, especially the underbed storage which is suitable for larger items like suitcases etc.
Site is really nice and homely and great value for what you get. Staff are lovely and super supportive.
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We agree with you about the rooms being good value. For 2024-25 the standard premium rooms are just £135.80 a week and they include a small double bed and loads of storage space. Thanks for your lovely comments about the staff too. We encourage all halls staff, whether they are cleaners, caretakers, RA's or Hall Managers, to create a friendly supportive environment for all our students and to support residents with whatever they need. :)
Extremely friendly staff, hall manager adam is great
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you find the staff and Adam the manager friendly and helpful. This hall is really popular especially for students studying at Markaeton Street and Britannia Mill as it is literally minues away from them. It's also very close to a supermarket (Co-op) and the premium standard rooms are so lovely and such good value for money.
Glide is not very good WiFi network but I like the rooms and everything else
We're sorry to hear that the internet from Glide is not very good - we'll be feeding back your comments to them to see if we can improve things. Otherwise we're chuffed to bits that you like eveything else about St Christopher's Court.
This is my second year living here. Location is great, price is good and the staff are all helpful.
Wow - thanks for the high score for St Christopher's Court. Like you many second and third year students come back to halls for another year because they love the hassle-free living halls provide
Nice place to live, good area and close to uni and the city, friendly staff and any issues are picked up fast and sorted
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Due to it being the COVID year when I stayed here, social spaces like the common room were closed. Kitchens are also extremely small and hard to be sociable in ,which meant making friends within st Christopher’s was very difficult. The location also isn’t the best as it’s very far away from all of the other university halls. All the others are basically all in the same place whereas st Christopher’s is a bit further out. Also the unibusses to st Christopher’s are at a highly reduced schedule in comparison to the other uni halls, the last bus from th keddleston campus being at 5:30, for example, when busses to other halls go until around 8/9ish.
I'm sorry you had to experience halls and university during covid. Definitely not an ideal start. Now we're back to normal times the common room is open and the Residence Life programme of events and activities is back. St Christopher's hall is a few minutes walk away from the other halls but very convenient for Markeaton Street and Britannia Mill and still not far from One Friar Gate Square. None of the halls are far from the city centre or the main site.
Really close to Markeaton Campus and buses running every 10 minutes to Kedleston. Libraries close by, can stay in accommodation in 2nd and 3rd year
Infact all our halls are just a short walk from Markeaton Street, Britannia Mill and One Friar Gate Square so distances are just not an issue. Yes we do open our halls for 2nd and 3rd year students or returners and we put them in 'returner blocks'. Sometimes a group of returners apply together to live in the same flat.
Only good thing about this hall is the people I met and the cleaning that happens every week. Aside from that it’s like a prison cell
We're deligted to hear you liked the people, I'm guessing you mean staff and residents and that you appreciated the weekly clening service which covers all communl areas. In terms of it being like a prison cell, I'm not sure what you mean as all the rooms are a decent size and you are free to come and go as you please .
Was a good halls in first year with a very supportive halls manager. Close to town and the uni with a bus stop right outside.
We're glad the Hall Manager was supportive. Your Hall manager should always be your fisrt port of call with any issues you might have. We glad you were happy with the location of St Christopher's Court. All our halls are really conveniently located for lectures and the city centre and even though there is a free Unibus , it's still really easy to walk everywhere. There are also several supermarkets close to halls ( A co-op on Ashbourne Road and Five Lamps, a Sainsbury's Local on Nuns Street and Kedleson Road and a new Lidl on Uttoxeter New Road
Great! Happy, lived here for 3 years now!
Glad to hear it :) Not everyone knows that students in their second and third years can live in our halls. In fact we offer financial incentives to returning students. These 'returners' live in 'returners blocks' of their own, so they are not put in flats with Freshers. One advantage for returners is that they can apply early, so are very likely to get the room type they want and also people can apply as a group to live in a flat together. About 25-30% of our halls population are second and third year students. They seem to like the convenience of halls with no extra bills to pay and many people also cite the friendly staff as a reason for staying.
I studied at the University of Derby in the early 00's, and lived at St Christopher's in 200/01. From the sound of other reviews, it doesn't sound like it's changed much, although we had to pay extra for the WiFi back then ☺️. Anyway, I liked it, very easy to make new friends, an easy walk from the uni, very close to town, and the common room was good for socialising. Also, nice, helpful staff, the security staff were very helpful in helping me and my friend out with a minor crisis once. I'd of recommended it then, and it's good that it's still well liked now
Fantastic to hear from an old alumni who had such a positive exoperience in our halls. We have always focused on creating a friendly and supportive environment for students and the fact that we continue to have such positive rating amongst residents (Winners Best Halls 2022 - Global student Living Index) reassures us we're on the right track. Thanks for the feedback - we welcome it good or bad!
Perfect balance of support and independence.
That's great to hear . Halls are a great trnasition for people moving away from home for the fisrt time and we're on hand to support residents every step of the way
Nice, tidy and clean halls. Security were excellent. Only problem was the cost of car parking.
We're deligted you thought St Chrsitopher's Court was nice, tidy and clean. It IS a great hall to live in - so close to lectures, with supermarkets nearby and on the free Unibus route. We're sorry you thought the parking was expensive. The current price for a car is £330 for 42 weeks. (motorbikes are £170) For a car that works out at £1.12 a day and 57p for a motorbike which we don't think is too bad.
Great location for courses that are based on markeaton street and Britannia mill campuses. Also great value for money compared to other halls in derby
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Small common area, no living area in flats. Has cat
Although the common room can't fit all residents in at once - that is rarely required. Bigger events organised by the residence life team like the climbing wall, hall fest or petting zoo are held in the courtyard. The common room is meant for smaller groups of students and has it's own pool table (free to play), table tennis table, widescreen TV and Playstation 4. In the flats the kitchens are the main communal area but also students often connect in each others rooms. Unfortunately the cat Sox, who was probably the most popular member of staff has passed away and gone to cat heaven
Great location, with excellent staff (includes cleaning staff!).. love the facilities in the common room.
Thanks for that great score and review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and liked the common room facilities (table tennis, pooltable, Wide screen TV and PS4)
The team are amazing Andy and the RA's are incredible they're like your parents they have the answers but they won't shout at you for being a drunk mess. The rooms are huge and the cleaning staff are so helpful and friendly.
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay there. It's in a great location, close to lectures at Friar Gate Square, Britannia Mill and Markeaton Street and just a short free Unibus ride to Kedleston Road. Plus there's a supermarket literally 2 minutes away
I loved being at st Chris. Met some amazing people. Inbetween uni and town so perfect if you like to go out
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. It is in an ideal location and also close to a supermarket and on the Unibus route. It's also really near Markeaton Street and Britannia Mill
Everyone agrees, this is the best hall!
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Awesome staff and joy the cleaner was a bae
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
It's a great place to socialise and to meet new people.
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. Attending our Residence Life events is another great way to meet new people
Really lovely halls staff so so welcoming and easy to speak to. Amazingly close to all campuses and easy access to and from town. Lovely students to socialise with and especially good halls if you enjoy going out a lot. Over all my experience so far has been incredible.
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Excellent halls. Great staff and amazing atmosphere, really loved my time there and will be returning. Has a cat and that's always a bonus. Everyone I've know that goes there would recommend it and thinks it's the best halls
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Amazing location, amazing staff and rooms really big
Thanks for that great score and review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. The location IS great , close to lectures at Britannia Mill, Markeaton Street and One Friar Gate Square, near a Co-op supermarket and on the Unibus route and the rooms are a good size with everything you need including a small double bed desk & chair, shelving wardrobe and underbed storage.
The rooms are huuuuggeeee! Kitchen and shared bathroom really spacious! Hall manager the best, half way between uni campus and city centre, really safe. Best WIFI!
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Very noisy a lot of the time, Walls feel paper thin so you can hear anyone and everyone.
We're really sorry that you experienced a few issues with noise during your stay. Since then we've improved our policy on noise. We advise residents to report the issue to a member of staff when the noise is actually happening. That way staff can deal with the culprits. We do take noise complaints very seriously in halls and have a proper procedure to deal with repeat offenders so it's always best to let us know about the problem.
Staff are very friendly and helpful, any problems with maintenance get fixed very fast and location is amazing if you go to Britannia mill/markeaten! Nice and social
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. St Christopher's is also only a short walk to One Friar Gate Square and on the free unibus route to Kedleston Road
Good location, good sized rooms and love the shower! Just wish there was a sitting area in our flat
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. Darley Bank has really big kitchens with sofas which are great for socialising and Agard Court has smaller kitchen but they do have a TV and sofa, again great for socialising with flatmates. In addition all our undergraduate halls have a common room for residents which have a pool table, table tennis, a large screen TV , PS4 etc.
Amazing place to live, all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and we have a pet cat socks on site :)
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately, the Legend that was Socks passed away. He was definitely one of the most loved cats in Derby!!!
Had a great time, you'd love it if you're a party animal! Although some blocks (such as the blocks with the en-suite flats) are normally quieter if you prefer to not have all the ruckus. Staff are always on-call if you need to make a noise complaint, and they always get down to it :) Plus, the showers have great water pressure!
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay
Great staff, short walk away from everywhere!
Thanks for that great review for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. It really IS just a short walk from everywhere(Markeaton Street, Britannia Mill, One Friar Gate Square) and a short bus ride or 20 minute walk to Kedleston Road
Expensive and the cleaner doesn't actually clean that much up. The location is decent as it is close enough to walk to town and the university. The common room is a great area however theres only one room for everyone and theres no living rooms in each flat.
Our cleaners clean all the kitchen surfaces but are not responsible for clearing pots and pans and doing the washing up. For that reason we ask students to clear the surfaces so the cleaners can clean. It’s also residents’ responsibility to take the rubbish out. We recommend you organise a rota for this. We’re glad you like the location. All our halls are close to lectures and the city centre and most are near to a supermarket too. As for the common rooms , these days all common rooms have a pool table, table tennis, a large screen TV , PS4 etc. If you want social spaces in the flats themeselves, Darley Bank has really big kitchens with sofas which are great for socialising and Agard Court has smaller kitchen but they do have a TV and sofa, again great for socialising with flatmates. In addition all our undergraduate halls have a common room for residents which have a pool table, table tennis, a large screen TV , PS4 etc.
Worst experience of my life, incapable manager who couldn't do her job, lived with absolute idiots who smoked inside, ended up having to move dorms which add an extra 20 minutes to my commute in the morning and cost more.
We're really sorry you had a bad experience in halls and that the Hall Manager was not helpful in this instance. Complaints should be raised as soon as possible and within three months of the issue occurring. If you are unable to resolve your issue through your Hall Manager, you can contact the Customer Services Administration Manager by email at studentliving-housingteam@derby.ac.uk. We aim to resolve a complaint within ten working days. If you are still unhappy with an issue, you can make a complaint through the University's formal complaint procedure. In regard to your flatmates, we're sorry it couldn't be resolved satisfactorily. Usually a simple flat meeting can sort things out but if the issue is harder to remedy, as you know, we can look at room swaps or other alternatives.
Great location close to town and the university buildings
Thanks for that great score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed living there. You're right about the location - It's only minutes awaay from Marketon Street and Britannia Mill and about a 10 minute walk to One Friar gate Square, near a supermarket and on the Unibus bus route too
friendly atmosphere, large rooms and comfortable living.
Thanks for that great review and score for St Christopher's Court. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay. St Christopher's is also in a great location, close to Britannia Mill and Marketon Street and only about a 10 minute walk away from One Friar Gate Square. There is also a supermarket nearby and a free Unibus stop on the doorstep
Was one of my worst experinces i was bullied my first year of university in those halls and the manager never believed me. It was dirty all the time since no one would clean and i had to go through my student union before i could finally be moved to lonsdale hall which was a 40min walk to the campus. My bad flat mates got to stay.
We're sorry to hear you didn't have a great time. Clearly a lot went on and it sounds like the staff were not as effective as they might have been. In regards to the cleaning/dirt issue , it can be a problem when other flatmates don't pull their weight. Sometimes a simple flat meeting can sort things out but if the issue is harder to remedy we can look at room swaps or other alternatives. We no longer have Lonsdale Hall and all our halls are much closer so any moves would still be nearby and wouldn't be such an inconvenience. These days, all our halls are really conveniently located for lectures and the city centre and even though there is a free Unibus , it's still really easy to walk everywhere. Thank you for your review. We really value student feedback and use it to improve the service we offer.
