If you ever consider studying here, I would recommend choosing this accomodation! Big kitchen, great en-suite rooms and great common room where you can watch TV, play some pool, table football, darts and even Playstation! Also it has outstanding location, 5-7min walk to the nearest shop, 10-15min walk to the City Centre and 20min walk to the University! Also provided bin area, smoking area and washing area with washers and dryers in it (£2.50 for washers, £1.50 for dryers which in my opinion is an excellent price)!

This modern hall of residence which overlooks the Markeaton Brook, provides good quality en suites and studio accommodation close to the University and the city centre. Located near the Cathedral Quarter, Darley Bank rooms contain a small double bed, ample storage space, a large desk and chair, and their own en suite facilities. Rooms and studios are available in three sizes, small, medium, and large.
The spacious communal kitchens with sofas and soft seating are an ideal place for flatmates to hang out and cook together. Flats at this hall have three to seven rooms and a shared kitchen. Communal facilities include a laundry, common room, and pleasant outside space.

Booking is really easy. At this late stage in the year we suggest you go straight to the booking page www.derby.ac.uk/bookhalls and see what is available on the drop down menu. No ensuites left now I'm afriad but we still have standard rooms at great prices

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I have had a great experience studying at the University of Derby. The campus is modern and well-equipped, offering a fantastic learning environment. The facilities, particularly for my course (Business Management), are top-notch, with access to state-of-the-art resources and study spaces. The teaching staff are knowledgeable and approachable, always ready to offer guidance and support when needed. I’ve been impressed with the quality of the lectures and the practical, real-world approach to learning that the university promotes. They also provide great career support services, helping students with internships and job placements. One area that could be improved is the variety of extracurricular activities, as I feel there could be more opportunities for students to get involved in different clubs and societies. Additionally, sometimes the communication between departments could be clearer, as there are occasional delays in responses to queries. Overall, I would highly recommend Der

The Internet connection is excellent now compared to how it was before summer 2023. The social spaces are nice and clean and the accommodation is excellent value for money

The staff and halls manager at Darley bank are so friendly and are always happy to help with any problems. The rooms and kitchen in this accommodation are really nice and open.

Everything is great staff and RAs are friendly
We're so glad you like living at Darley Bank and that you find the staff friendly. For those who don't know, Darley Bank is situated close to lectures at Britannia Mill, Marketon Street and One Friar Gate Sqaure as well as being just a short walk from the Cathedral Quarter and the city centre.
i don't have anything particular to say. one bulb was broken in our flat, and we didn't have a mop bucket and we had to ask about that. and then a man went into my room when i wasn't in there about my fire evacuation plan. that wasn't cool. especially as he left the calling card on my bed rather than a more suitable location on my desk. and one of my flatmates has already moved out, so.
Thank you for your feedback about Darley Bank. When things are broken or missing in your flat, please let a member of staff know and it will get dealt with swiftly and efficiently. Fire evacuation plans, sometimes known as PEEPS are very important for the safety of residents. It’s unfortunate that you were not in at the time the fire safety person visited but it was important that he visited to make an assessment. He left a calling card to inform you he had been which is because we like to keep students fully appraised of these things. We do also have a very strict procedure for entering flats and rooms to protect the privacy of residents. In this instance the visit was made in the interests of your safety. Please feel free to raise any issues you have with the accommodation with staff who are always happy to help.
My experience has been good so far. To make it better, I would say maybe develop the outside everyone so people from other flats can socialise with each other better, and maybe a cleaner once a week just to help out.

You must have liked Darley Bank to return for another year! We’re so glad you like it there. For students who don’t know, we do accept hall applications from second and third year students or ‘returners’ as we call them. Returners live in blocks with other returners and sometimes apply together with a group of friends to live in the same flat. Find out more about living in halls after your first year.
Having stayed at Darley Bank for a month, it’s been very pleasant, nice flatmates , reasonable sized rooms. Beds are very comfortable as well. Staff are friendly and when requiring help they’re always on the ready. Unfortunately the process of the washing machines and doing laundry hasn’t been the best . The digital screens are quite confusing and the app can be a bit tricky to get your head round it. However I have eventually found out how to do the laundry from other peers but the app and the digital screens on the washing/drying machines aren’t very useful.

I’ve only just moved in but the staff are extremely helpful and supportive, I connect to the WiFi instantly and have searched around and have found many different shops and bus stops. The room was nice and clean making it very welcoming.

So glad you’re happy at Darley Bank and enjoying the big kitchens (great for socialising) and the facilities in the common room. Like most of our halls, Darley Bank is also close to the city centre, the University and other amenities, so it’s super convenient with everything you need close by or on site.
All the staff are super lovely and helpful. All maintenance issues get dealt with swiftly, either the same day or the next day. Nearly always someone in the office to allow collection of parcels.

Darley Bank is such a safe and convenient accommodation to stay in. So much so that, I have decided to stay here for the rest the years of my degree. I am a student who moved away from Ireland to study so, I was quite picky with accommodation. The cleanliness in Darley Bank is often top tier. The staff are extremely helpful, kind and patient with the students who live here. The staff go above and beyond and are always willing to help you settle in & be comfortable. I am so lucky that I got Darley Bank as my first choice as I would not have known how excellent it is. I recommend that Darley Bank is anyone’s first choice when applying for halls.

Darley bank is a very lovely accommodation, I am enjoying staying here. The rooms are a good size and the bed has storage underneath. The kitchen is spacious and comes with a kettle, a microwave, and cleaning items. The staff members are really lovely and supportive, available in times of help and enthusiastic at all times to offer service. I really like the location of Darley bank because it's not too far away from the university, the city centre and shops, most areas are walking distances which is very convenient. I also like how emails are sent out in advance when there are any services that need to be carried out, such as checking the water or collections of sanitary bins. I recommend Darley bank and I myself will be staying next year too.

You have really summed up most of the advantages of living in this great hall of residence, but for people who don't know, here are a couple more to add to the list. It's close to the Unibus stop, there are two supermarkets just a few minutes walk away and it's got some lovely green spaces to hang out in when the weather is nice.
Excellent student residence, feels like your second home. The managers and the Hall Manager are always at your disposal for any problems or if you need anything. The environment is harmonious and you can study in complete silence. The facilities and services as well as the laundry room are always organized and clean. The location of the building is in the heart of the centre so it is easy to shop and you can walk around at any time without fear. I am personally very happy to have stayed in such an organized and well-kept dormitory as a student!

Lovely accommodation with fantastic people. Staff are always friendly and more than happy to help. I’ve enjoyed spending my second and third year of university at the accommodation. The kitchens are massive much bigger than expected and more than enough room to cook with everyone in the flat, I love the social sofas in the kitchen as well they are lovely. Only downside I would say is that the wifi does go down sometimes but it’s always been fixed ASAP. Other than that is been fantastic.

The best uni accommodation by far. Friendly and helpful staff, maintenance problems are always fixed asap.The building feels safe to live in and the flats are modern and spacious, good communal areas with plenty of events on.
