Living at Northgate House, Derby, has been an absolute joy as a student. The accommodation itself is everything you could ask for—modern, cozy, and designed with student life in mind. It’s the perfect blend of comfort and convenience, making it a true home away from home. But what truly elevates the experience is the incredible team behind it. Trevor, Sarah, and Marrionate have been nothing short of amazing. From the moment I moved in, they made the entire process feel effortless. Whether it was answering questions, sorting out any issues, or simply being a friendly face, they made every step feel easy and welcoming.Their care and dedication transformed what could have been just another student housing experience into something special. It’s rare to find a place where the staff go out of their way to make sure you’re not just living but thriving. For any student looking for a smooth, stress-free living experience with a personal touch, Northgate House in derby is the place to be.

Great place to stay with everything being easily accessible
I’ve not had any problems. The staff are all very friendly and the accommodation is very close to university bus stops.
The property is nice and is in a nice location. Rooms are a good size with a nice spacious ensuite whilst still being a decent price

Special thanks to Marinate, an exceptional individual who consistently demonstrates outstanding professionalism and dedication. Her friendly demeanour and attentive approach have greatly contributed to a positive experience in the accommodation.
Really nice place to stay, lovely staff that was very helpful. The spaces were kept really clean and the rooms and kitchens were very modern!
Comfortable accommodation in a fantastic location, has been sufficient for me to rebook the following year. Staff are nice and building has good resources.
Great place to stay and the staff are every friendly
It is a very good accommodation
Very good acom and very organised
The staff are very friendly and are always willing to help! It’s located in the city centre so everything is easily accessible :)
it is a great accommodation as it is a great value for money and a great location in derby close to the centre of the city
It’s a nice accommodation for university students and it’s a nice location as it’s close to the town centre so there’s a lot of things to do around
Really nice to live here, everything is managed well and I love my room!
Staying at northgate house has been amazing and would recommend to anyone. The management team are great they really try to build a relationship with everyone. The rooms are great and are all you need along with a kitchen that is suitable for anyone while also being a great place to socialise
Great place to stay. Right by city centre and close to uni bus stops. Management team are great and make you feel welcomed.
Very friendly staff and they are always happy to help. The lounge and kitchen space is a good size. The accommodation is always kept clean and tidy. They put a lot of effort in to ensure your flatmates will be a good match for you. Overall a very good accommodation to stay at.
I moved into my flat with 3 of my friends and 4 other strangers. The staff paired us perfectly with the strangers we were paired with. The staff is very friendly and go above and beyond to help. For instance I had temporarily lost my fob and even though reception was closed marionette still offered to help me and let me into my room. If she hadn’t I would have had to pay the out of hours fee. There are also great amenities included such as the cinema room and the gym. Northgate also offers large and spacious kitchens which are perfect for hosting nights with your friends.
This is a nice place to stay. Management are quick to respond to all queries. My studio is nice and spacious with all the amenities I need. It's not very far from the city centre and the university which is great. Overall, a great place to stay.
Since I moved into Northgate house I have had the honor of meeting the wonderful and amazing management team of Marionette, Trevor,Amy and other staffs who have been welcoming, helpful, dedicated and committed to ensuring I feel at home with their support system and they always greet and welcome you each time they see you at the reception and around the property. They are always welcoming with a smile and patient to listen and solving problems whenever I have questions for them plus they keep good hygiene ensuring the entire property is clean.I must say they are a great asset to Northgate house and I highly recommend Northgate house for any student or professional because it has access to basic things like the stores buses and city center.
Trevor, Marionette and Amy are always friendly and make sure to greet you as you come in. Communal areas are nice and tidy and if something goes wrong they are always helpful!
Since living at Northgate House I’ve had the honour of meeting Marionette, Trevor and Amy who’ve helped me whenever I’ve been need. They’re always welcoming and with smiles when I’ve passed through reception.
Brilliant customer service, staff are all so friendly and always ready to help .Worth every penny spent. As a first year student moving away was quite daunting however Northgate house has made sure my move in was seamless and my time here has been most comfortable
In my experience management and staff have been more than exceptional, the living spaces are beyond exceptional for me and I find everything to be really top notch. In the 2 academic years i have lived here i have had no issues in any way shape or form
Great staff including Marionette, Amy and Trevor Very helpful
All the facilities are good here and kept in good condition and the staff are friendly and help instantly with any issues
Lovely place!! Trevor and Marionette are so supportive and helpful.
Good accommodation, overall The staff is really nice they make sure you’re safe and doing well. Really take care of you and make you feel welcome and at home Missing a few things but with enough time and effort it could become one of the best
After leaving the review, the staff here responsed to me and sloved the problem for me in short time. Great service! And they start to hold more social events which are quite fun to join.
I have had a pleasant stay so far and any concerns that I had have been dealt with efficiently and professionally. My studio is just as I expected; it was clean upon arrival, and very modern, colourful, and cosy. Location is superb; it is 10 mins walk from the city centre, lots of pubs and restaurants in the area, a surgery on Agard street itself, and buses to University, to city centre, train station and surrounding areas. The staff is extremely helpful; emails are addressed very quickly, they are available at the reception most of the time, and whenever I needed any help out of hours, it has always been dealt with immediately through contacting the out-of-hours number.
Since moving in, I have had such a pleasant experience with the staff and the other residents here. It’s such a convenient location, being right next to a University of Derby building and also less than a 10 min walk away from the city centre. It’s also very convenient for University of Nottingham students who are studying at the Royal Derby Hospital, just like myself! There’s a UoN hopper bus stop less than a 10 min walk away from Northgate House. I highly recommend making a booking here, you will not regret it!
So far i have enjoyed staying at Northgate House and having my own space. The area is safe and located near the the university campuses so bus stops are within a short minutes walk. City centre is also within a walking distance as well as supermarkets like Lidl. I would definitely recommend this place and staff are brilliant too.
I have been living here since a year. Good accomodation facilities on a budget friendly price. Safe space for students to live in. If there are any issues, they look into it.
the staffs here are very nice and willing to solve my problems. However, the room is not clean enough, there are quite a few spiders living in my room and nets every corner. It takes me a while to clean it. As living in a studio, I didn't realise any social events(?). The wifi sometimes doesn't work but is acceptable.
Great staff members and definitely the best accomodation in derby
The staff are super helpful and friendly.
As a new building initially, Northgate was going through regular problems and improvements which is expected from a new building. However during my time there, they were very effective and efficient in quickly doing everything they can to improve the building. Closer to the end of my stay I required a lot more attention and requirements from the accommodation and staff and while feeling like a bother, they were more than happy to accommodate to me and my situation. Everyday, they would always also greet me with a big smile to brighten up my day. They’re all so nice and friendly and the building is getting better and better everyday. It’s a very luxurious place to stay.
I found Northgate house very comfortable to live. The staff here are friendly and lovely. They always help without you asking. The facilities here are excellent. Obviously, any new building would have problems, however management has improved the building works massively. Therefore, would recommend for derby students.
I am very happy and comfortable in my accommodation and any issues I have had whether it be at the start of year due to it being a new build has been dealt with professionally and quickly
Lovely accoomdation, highly recommend. We had some few challenges at the start of the year but things are alot better now.
This place has been has filled with so many lovely people from the staffs down to the students. I will say there were a-lot of problems from the start but all has been solved. There a lot of improvements and changes so I will strongly recommend to anyone looking for a student accommodation in derby.
This accommodation is suitable for students studying in derby, i most say that the staffs, facilities and students there are really great . Although at the start the year they where some few problems but that has been resolved. A lot has improved since I first moved in until now. The staffs are quick to respond to problems. Highly recommended
The accommodation has really improved since the day I moved in. The facilities here are great. Lovely staffs and students
I believe things are now improving in this accommodation even though there where problems along the way of my stay here, I can see a lot of changes. I will strongly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking to school at the university of Derby
I have lived in Northgate house for this current academic year. The accommodation is just 10 minutes walk away from my study campus. The free Uni bus stops just outside the accommodation. Because it was a new Build, the first few months were very difficult with all the problems associated with a new build accommodation. Over the past few months, the problems are being sorted out and we have enjoyed the benefits of living together and meeting new friends. I have made some friends for life. The new management are turning things around. With social get together such as coffee mornings. You can always speak to any member of the team, and they are always willing to help you. I would recommend Northgate House to any of my friends wanting to study at the university in Derby.
It's not the biggest room you can get but it def has everything you need. The shared kitchen is also spacious with sofas and a Tv. There's a gym and cinema room downstairs, which is also free to use. They also fixed the wifi, therefore, I can play all my pc games smoothly. The staff and receptionist in Northgate House are friendly and helpful, love them! This accommodation's location is also great, just a 10 min walk to the city centre and to Markeaton campus, the free unibus bus stop is just in front of the accommodation. Would def recommend students to stay here!
Northgate House Mezzino is simply exceptional! The staff is friendly, the facilities are top-notch, and the location is ideal, it’s very close to the supermarkets and the city centre. The rooms are spacious, modern, and comfortable. The amenities provided, especially the gym and study lounges, which I have used regularly this year have been fantastic. The accommodation's commitment to creating a supportive community is commendable. Lastly, the other tenants have been super friendly throughout my stay. I Highly recommended for any student looking for a perfect living experience!
Had lots of issues with this place. Would not recommend in staying here. Felt incredibly unsafe when I was there. Issue with ventilation - management lied and said it was working and 3 months later turned on and still claimed it had been on the whole time. Couldn't open the window which is obviously not ideal especially with the issues above. Led to mould issues - still nothing was done. The wifi was atrocious used lots of mobile data for the first 10 weeks. Every time you wanted to connect a device you had to ring the company and give them details. There is no 24/7 security as they claim. Lots of loud noises with other residents being totally oblivious that other people live there. The courtyard resembles a prison yard. Only 3 washing machines for the whole place. Weekly emails complaining about mess or drugs. Social spaces were closed within a week due to issues and had to be monitored by the RC's. One positive is located close to Derby city centre
Northgate as a whole was okay now special to write about, but as much I it was OK it did come with an array of problem some of which have been resolved. However the main problem I have is with drug use and misuse, the building layout which can get quite confusing and the flatmates ethinc viriaty my flat only had 1 white person and 1 south asian person if you are looking for a place that is more diverse try different accomdations
Overall, I have enjoyed my stay at Northgate House. Any asked questions previously, always received an immediate an immediate response from manager. Majority of the times they is always someone at the reception.
The new manager is lovely and helpful, Dave the repairman is amazing as well !!! This is only good thing about the property. Mould is biggest issue !!!! Massive health risk. The washing machines are useless and only 2 for a building with probs 80 people living here minimum. Doors don’t have key they have a fob system which goes down when the wifi does and then When you call helpline they sometimes don’t answer or take ages to come let you back in. The paint cracked on walls before moving in and walls We’re filthy and nothing Done about it. The flooring is pulling up in bedroom. For 145 a week it’s extortionate for what it is and all the issues. Would not recommend !!!!!!!
I have only enjoyed it because of the friends I have made, nothing else.
- It’s not ‘brand new accommodation’, it’s an old building they’ve done up on the cheap and are renting out for extortionate prices. - Got moved in a studio bc my roof leaked! Half my stuff got ruined, insurance covered this luckily. Studios are much better than the tiny, prison sized rooms they charge £150-60 a week for. If you’re gonna live here, the only room worth getting is a studio if you can afford it. But if you have that much money pick Roman House or the new Marlix one - Mould, never resolved properly - Plumbing - if you like brown water and toilets that don’t properly flush live here - Irresponsible and rude RA’s. One broke into my room. Didn’t get kicked out tho, dumb. - No kettles or toasters in shared kitchens. You will end up with 5+ taking up space To summarise, stay literally anywhere else. I don’t see the place lasting very long unless there is drastic change esp with all the new accom opening on Agard St
Staying at Northgate has been a lovely experience. I am even planning to stay on for the next academic year. Things to improve would be being more strict on the people who do come in and leave the place in a mess. Also ensuring that residents take responsibility for their actions.
northgate house is an okay accommodation, starting with management , personally i think management has been okay in terms of friendliness , however when it comes to resolving issues, they just send emails and expect us to do it by ourself or none at all which i think it’s quite selfish. Secondly the rooms are nothing special and for the price we pay, i definitely think we should pay less as the rooms are quite small and there’s accommodations that charge lower for bigger rooms. the location is really good for me personally as my campus is around the corner , for the price we pay i think we should hire cleaners as it’s not fair that there’s people making huge messes and other people have to clean up. the rooms have mould in it and there’s been no solutions to this which is disgusting, there’s also little dark / red things in the room corners which is off putting. in terms of ‘ social space’ there’s only a cinema room which is good but it doesn’t really do much.
Horrible experience - here’s some bullet points why: -They hired students who live at Northgate House to acts as Residential coordinators. These RA’s were threading individuals in the Northgate House group chat, threatening to use the master key to go into peoples rooms they did not like. Complete abuse of power, nothing was done about this when brought up. -Interconnected alarmed flat doors which are never locked. Which means other residents who do not live in your flat can walk through your flat at their own leisure. This happens all times of the morning, residents who aren’t in your flat screaming and shouting outside your door. -Big drug problem. -Mould across windows. There is a big mould issue through the building which hasn’t been addressed for months on end. Big health risk. -The building feels dark, outdated and old considering it is new. If you are a parent reading this do your child a favour and consider another accommodation.
Great location and great staffs. The people in the accommodation are really nice
Wonderful accommodations and amazing staffs
First of all, I spent soo much on mobile data at the beginning of my tenancy thinking there was wifi available which wasn’t the case. Another thing is that at least there should be cleaners to clean the flat kitchens at least once every week or twice every month. Making students clean the kitchens themselves didn’t help for some of us because the clean tenants tend to clean the kitchen over and over since other flatmates wouldn’t clean their mess. The flats have different prices however the room sizes for a flat isn’t same. However, the prices for the rooms in a flat is same amount.
Good location, could be better managed
My experience at Northgate has been wonderful. The staff are nice and have placed me with wonderful flatmates. Convenient location just a few minutes from the city centre with a bus stop right outside. Definitely worth it.
Great location, amazing staff, issues are usually fixed promptly
Cleaning and maintenance could be improved, often problemS with drains other than that nice rooms, cinema room and gym
Expected it to look like the pictures shown . Every room is literally a different size doesn’t make sense . The RA are good nothing to say on management side. But northgate overrall is just mid.
As a general overview to the year, the building started out with a variety of teething problems which is only natural for the building being brand new. By the end of the year, it has managed to iron out all teething problems I was aware of. It is a nice area to live in with connections to the University and City Centre close by. All in all, it has been an enjoyable experience.
Overall been good staying here however they were problems for me personal at the start
Best Private accommodation with a personal bathroom for a good price inclusive of bills and facilities to use in Derby. Very safe to live in as there are cameras everywhere and the location is nearby the city center, shops, and universities. Maintenance is checked very regularly and any issue is always fixed. Areas for improvement: Wifi needs to work better as sometimes it doesn't work. There needs to be more room for laundry. It would be great if there was a game room/fun area for people to chill and connect. Have social events so that people have a better social life and can connect. (esp international students)
***AVOID ACCOMMODATION AT ALL COSTS*** ONE STAR IS A POLITE REVIEW Management of Northgate are horrendous. They are unhelpful and take no responsibility. Throughout my time at Northgate, I have dealt with problems such as mould build up, CONTINUOUS leaks throughout the building and broken doors (which allows strangers to just walk into your room). All of which management have done nothing about for a year and let problems get worse. There is a huge health and safety risk living at Northgate, as the accommodation is completely unsustainable to live in, I’m disgusted to have to pay rent. As for the residential assistants who are completely unprofessional and unhelpful too. The RA’s have shown signs of harassment and intimidation towards residents of Northgate House, making them unapproachable when needed. The environment of Northgate is dark, damp and unwelcoming. Majority the residents too are very unfriendly. There is also lots if drugs being exploited throughout.
comfortable and great location to all universities , had a pleasant experience here
Didn’t have wifi for 8 months and haven’t got anything back for this. All problems take ages to fix and most don’t get done.
Fantastic accommodation, the team are brilliant here.
