Outstanding in every department.
I'm doing a foundation year and I have really enjoyed the support from the careers services and going to the study skills area. I've become confident in myself when I look for work and when I complete uni work. The library is open till very late and it's helpful when assignments are due or you're revising for a test. The wifi is a live saver especially when you run out of data
Doing product design engineering, the university offers great facilities to aim in my studies to product the best opportunity for achieving high grades
Overall, the university has a lot of potential but lacking in good SU and lecturers.
The university is a great modern building and with amenities like Subway, Starbucks and Papa Jons - as well as the university’s own cafe Blends, the foodcourt, the shops and SU. There is everything you could possible need at university. The library has everything you could need and normally there are enough computers and space in there. The buses are mostly quite awful, either they turn up late or don’t turn up at all on many occasions - but sometimes they do surprise you and turn up on time which is great. Currently I’m studying the foundation access course, which could be improved, although I am glad to be at university, the teaching in some of my classes is as poor as the support system. Additionally there is a constant disregard for the enivornment and an absurd amount of paper is handed out daily, for which there is no need. Asides from the negatives, the university of Derby is a great place to be. I would definitely reccomend joining a society or sports club!
Good university, lectures are experienced in their field of work.
I had an awful experience at derby university, the course was nothing like what they promised on the open day, it lacked creativity, direction and consistency. Personal issues were also handled awfully and they made problems seem like the victims fault and only cared about the university’s reputation and not the wellbeing of their paying students.
Best career opportunities given, works around real life based work.
The lecturers are brilliant and ensure you understand each module fully before moving on. I was afraid of university before coming to Derby as I thought I was going to be looked at as another student amongst the thousands or a number in the system but my experience has been better than brilliant and I couldn’t have chosen a better university for my course.
Poor university set up, poor teaching, Ppoor oor planning, poor value for money.
The University has a relaxed atmosphere and a homely feel. The lecturers are always friendly and supportive. It is a professional and modern university, with advanced technology and teaching, yet still remains comfortable and traditional.
Not to many facilities on campus, no student union bar event know the derby campus has two bars, literelaly not facilities, some sports clubs but once sports clubs move down to derby that's sports gone as well so there will be nothing to do in Buxton
Buxton campus gets largely neglected by the uni, with little in the way of events put on and the students union is minimal
The Kedleston Road and Britannia Mill Campus's has good facilities. However, the facilities would be better if Library is open for 24 hours a day. The computers in these library could also be better. Not many students use the student union as it is not a fun and enjoyable environment. The clubs and societies run under the student unions can be much cheaper. Wifi speeds can also be better.
This is not a university, this is table tennis game. Everybody is sending me to somebody else when I'm asking the questions. Lecturers are pretending they are happy to help but they don't actually care and it's also impossible to contact them. Unibus does not run as it should be. WiFi connection is not good as well. Societies do not communicate and they are expensive as well so I ended up doing sport somewhere else. I'm paying a lot of money for nothing and I did not get anything from my course. It seems like there are many possibilities, but the reality is different. Not everybody working at this university is actually working.
Such a good university, actually has time to invest in you doing things to further progress and develop your own personal profile. They want you to do the best you can and be employed at the end of your time with them
Good campus except that the lifts are quite packed and there are a lot of stairs, this is easily sorted once you learn when the rushes are and can avoid them. I haven't joined any societies, or used the student union however I know that there is help in careers services and my lecturers so far have been more than happy to talk to you about it. my course leader had a good half an hour chat with me about what I need to do and how to do it for my chosen profession
Wifi never works, not a lot of societies that aren't academic or sporty. Societies are ridiculously expensive.
I hated this university not only are they slow in providing information but do not help at all! I am super devestated that this university has spent £9,000 of mine and I did not get anything out of this course absolutely disgusted and annoyed that my time and effort has gone to waste, I do not reccommend this university at all your better off going to BCU or UOB!
Good facilities and amazing student benefits. (Student cafe, student shop, careers service, and has two ATM machines. Also there is a student bar and restaurant for meals and holds a lot of student events too.
A university that actually cares. You're not just a number.
Amazing building, and Su looks good with loads of events
Decently sized, clean, updated. Not a a member of societies.
SU is a joke and some of the societies are obviously racist (such as the black Catholic society). But not including that, its OK.
We are sorry to hear about this. Are you still studying at the University. Our union President would be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have. You can get in conatct with the President via email (president@derbyunion.co.uk)
The university itself has loads of options to get involved with.
The uni itself is nice. It's small and has good facilities, i struggle with some of the lecturers however. Firstly they criticize you for not having tutorials yet they are hardly available. Secondly, they tell you not to use Wikipedia yet in one lecture the presentation the lecturer did, his information was copied and pasted straight from Wikipedia. Thirdly in one module they gave us an essay to write without actually teaching us what we were writing about, when i asked what we were to do i was told to use google and finally one lecturer gives wrong information, i checked my lecture notes after the lecture i found the information which i was given was incorrect.
The uni campus at Kedleston Road is fairly decent, with a good variety of eateries (Starbucks, Subway, the university kitchen, a cafe, and a bar), and also a small shop (Keddie's). The campus is very close together, and it's easy to get to everything. There's a good transport system called the Unibus that can get you round the city and to the uni for just £1 per journey (£10 for ten). It's also right next to Markeaton Park, if you and your friends fancy a change of scenery at lunchtime during the summer. Facilities are decent, with a good multi-floor library, student wellbeing service (very good!), and a uni doctors, among other things. The careers service is fairly good, apparently, as is the student's union (again, apparently, as I have used neither of these services). There are often careers fairs and such on in the main building, which can be useful and interesting, and the uni run a variety of events during term time.
Great location, wish the library was open 24 hours and there were more ebook copies. Love the bar
Really good at teaching, but the SU isn't very attractive to people and students only really know about the events that they run in the uni and not much else. Derby is a really unknown place so students with lower grades usually come here, but in actuality the uni should have better students, it is because it isn't very renown and no one has heard of it, so the grade boundaries to get in are usually lower compared to other unis.
Wifi is pretty bad everything else is great especially the brownie man
The main campus at Derby has everything you need. The library is easy to use, enough shops for food and coffee (inc. a subway!) and enough room to sit with friends. The gym and sports facilities are great but too.
Great campus with different learning areas
Wifi lacks, it disconnects every time you move around the campus and logging in can be a pain
I'm in my final year, I've loved my time at the university and would not change my decision to live and study at UOD for the world.
Printing is expensive. No interaction between campus's. So not aware of student union or societies. Not advertised really at markeaton or britannia mill. I am doing foundation in fashion. But it is not related to fashion at all. Its very broad. And is based on fine art. So doesn't really help you at all. The careers service is useless. They have no links to any companies. Just advise you to go on websites and help you make a ''plan'' all they offer is CV advice and how to use linkedin. Teachers on my course are late. But expect you to be on time. My course is just child's play and very boring. Never anything going on at markeaton or brit mill. Very boring dull place.
I came from Wales and Derby was very welcoming with a good nightlife and a great university. I really enjoy sports and the facilities are incredible
Uni is good with good access to library however the internet access is not too good as it doesn't always connect and you have to constantly log in every time you stop using it for 5 minutes.
Nice campuses but yet again didn't feel the support from my tutors.
Societies are the best part of the uni. There aren't as many as some unis but they are very social!
Could do with more social sports clubs
Pretty fun settling in, One thing I would say is that It doesn't really give you time to get into how they work here. You're just kinda thrown into the mix and you've got to hope you survive.
Fantastic cheerleading club and the halls I lived in during first year were so good
Great university, I love it! The wifi let's it down. Student Union is great for food in the day but far out and not cheap on a night out.
When i first came to Derby i didn't expect much but when i enrolled and was an actual student i realised how much hard work and money had been fed into the university seeing all the up to date technology and new facilities its a brilliant university and they hold some brilliant social events, one of my most recent favourites was the Fathers and Sons which was held and organised by the rugby team for all the sport societies.
The uni has good lecters that willing take time to help you with your work and get you involved in the classes. The biggest downside is the internet is rubbish at the university.
Nice university. Only downside is joint honours don't get given a timetable you have to figure it out for yourself
Uni itself is amazing but the wifi is spotty at busy times, with many relying on it in lectures things like open days cripple everyone
Brilliant uni, really comforting and friendly. Always clean and tidy, library has everything & there are always people to help you and the uni gets even better now that its expanding
A wonderful and welcoming university :)
you have a variety of clubs in general , suiting all music tastes
Your career opportunities is merely down to how much effort you put in to network and be proactive. The university can only point you in the right direction which they do very well. The rest is down to you.
havent really started proper lectures yet but theres good facilities
Easy to walk to from some halls
I have to give a satisfactory feedback.
Overall, they're great. Communication is effective, security are mostly good and there's a good range of facilities, although some could do with updating.
This phrase comes to mind - 'It ticks all the boxes!'
Great experience and the tutors are helpful
Derby university is a small friendly uni to come too. It's not to big where you can get lost but not to small where you can not pursue your dreams.
The city is nice, it's easy to access all of the necessary amenities, however the societies seem badly organised.
Overall I've really enjoyed derby
Lecturers have helped me with so much, I haven't joined any clubs but there's loads of them to join, wifi in all parts of uni just log in with student Id, great place! B
Helpful staff at admissons and enrolment. Lecturers reply to emails quickly. Facilities are modern. Blends cafe is relaxing. Open days are informative. Student support and wellbeing services have helped me get back into study as a student parent.
Derby is such a good university for sports teams and societies, love the team derby family feeling.
Great uni , the lecturers know what they are talking about and the location is great
Loving my time at the University of Derby! They have a lot of great facilities such as the Student Well-Being Center and the Careers Center :) And my course is amazing (Creative Expressive Therapies). They have a huge range of courses, and some wonderful spaces. If you're looking for a course in the arts or the therapeutic sector, then I recommend this uni, as it has been a great experience for me and I'm learning so much. Although, obviously you'll know for sure if you come for an open day, because different universities suit different personalities. Choose wisely! :)
Awful experience, transferring to Lincoln
Great university for facilities and clubs ! Campus is far from town and train station though. The uni bus is expensive, unreliable and doesn't run on a Friday night or a weekend (which makes it hard to travel to town/train station if you live near campus). The main atrium and library are great but wifi sucks
The food facilities on site are too expensive for students, and the subway always has a queue at least 20 minutes long so you can't get one in a lecture break. The car park is utter sh** and is ran by a load of incompetent people that target individuals by ticketing some and not others and also by picking and choosing who is let in when me the car park is allegedly 'full'. The lecturers are okay and some of the lecture theatres are, but a lot of them are uncomfortable to sit in for so long and you end up with a bad back.
I was at the Buxton campus, but I have had a great uni experience, Lecturers are friendly, make lectures interesting
Lovely staff & good facilities, internet available
Great uni! help is easy to find and the lecturers are friendly, engaging and extremely useful especially in individual tutorials.
