A great university for most subjects and a really diverse and interesting history course as well
Good uni, WiFi not so good but facilities are amazing most modern campus I’ve ever seen perfect for built environment students.
Really amazing uni, great staff and facilities! Had the best time here.
Amazing experience. It is turning out to be one of the best experiences of my life.
Really good university that is sadly not up to student standards yet. The SU facilities are just dire and student satisfaction is quite low I would imagine.
Accommodation is very modern and nice, WiFi is horrendous often disconnected when trying to do coursework/ revise.
I really enjoyed my time at Brooke’s the teaching is amazing!
Fantastic facilities and equipment for sporting degrees. Lecturers were professional, friendly, and open for support whenever it was needed. Support for dyslexic students was extremely helpful during my degree, such as extra allowances for assignments and exams, and one to one tuition. On the downside, during my 4 years at Brookes I found food options to be limited and overpriced, considering that students have limited funds. For example, a simple meal deal was significantly more expensive on campus than other high street shops.
Oxford Brookes is THE friendliest and open university and I couldn’t be happier living here.
The facilities at Oxford Brookes are brand new and top class. Wouldn’t fault the societies either. Very including and there’s something for everybody, regardless of hobbies or beliefs.
Jhb has great facilities but isn’t a lot of space to work especially computer rooms as these get booked out all day for one or two people. The union is awful with issues taking ages to get sorted or not really doing anything. Student nights out are run by an external company rather than union so are much more expensive than other units
No negative feedback to give, everything is very good to be fair
Such an amazing environment to help with learning and development
Brookes is great. Everyone is so so so nice
An excellent university with a modern campus, the Headington Campus including the JHB and the new Clerici building are great places to work and study. The teaching is overall good, with some occasional exceptions where the quality dips (although the opposite is also true). The societies I feel have an issue where they are too niche and don't appeal to any general interests, like 'Land Rover Appreciation' or 'Disney Movie', which can make it hard for people to find things they want to join. As for the Students Union, the Freshers' Fair is great and their advice facilities are useful, but other than that I'm not sure what they do, especially as Brookes doesn't have an on-campus bar run by union like other universities. The careers service at Brookes is very useful and they run numerous job fairs and can hold 1-on-1 consultations and even mock interviews. Finally, the wifi is eduroam and it's great, has coverage across campus and is fast (though can cut out sometimes at peak times).
Great in certain areas but very sinknor swim your own your own daily
Absolutely LOVED my three years here, everything about this university is vastly underrated.
Loads of new buildings Sports is amazing and so much fun here Student union isn’t like the other unis as it’s it not a night club or really a place you can get drunk at
Extraordinary Staff, facilities, and location
Such a fab uni, a great working environment and the place the meet amazing people
Student union is s*** they don’t even know where the nearest post box is
I've seen a lot of negativity about this university, particularly people saying that certain departments are useless. Firstly if you need help with mental health or disabilities, don't go to admissions, CONTACT STUDENT SUPPORT, that's their job not admissions. I'll admit the Headington campus is a bit of a maze, but it's easy to navigate after the first week or so! I'm currently a second year student and the university has been nothing but helpful and supportive of my mental health needs and academic support. I couldn't rate them highly enough. My lecturers are always engaging with their topic and willing to discuss theories etc after class, and often over a cup of coffee (sometimes even via email over the weekend!) The support from them is incredible and I can't thank them enough. Don't listen to the negative comments! Apply to this university! Just make sure you know who to talk to, and where they are! and you'll be just fine!
The wifi was okay when it could be accessed, the campus is dreadful and its difficult to find your way around, especially if you are trying to look for lifts if you have any mobility issues. the students union was hidden away and you would not be able to find it until you had searched the whole building, it is poorly constructed.
This university was the worst decision I had ever made. The admissions team are completely useless, especially if you are asking about mental health and disabilities, they are no help at all, they also are rude if you have any special needs or disabilities or even mental health issues. The lecturers are rude and not interested in what they want to teach, they have no care for the students whatsoever, I tried emailing about certain issues and a woman from the admissions department was completely rude to me along with the lecturers. If this review has any important view to you, take it as advice and DO NOT APPLY TO THIS UNIVERSITY. They cannot organise anything, and are a complete let down for where they are based. The whole department where I was based was a shambles, this university only wants your money, and they don't care for your well being or health. The admissions team is completely disgusting to students who has different disabilities or special needs.
Overall, it is a new and fun university. With a great student life.
Very nice uni with modern facilities
Very friendly environment where there is help, if needed, everywhere. Many places to study which can supply all of your needs
Had an amazing experience and already found a second family! Incredible services and I am so excited to be studying more into my course this next year.
The social scene on campus is shockingly bad.
Oxford Brookes offers a range of support services in ways you didn't even think would be necessary! All staff are attantative and the atmosphere of the students is welcoming and friendly. Everyone feels welcome and supported by staff and students. There a are many opportunities to meet new people and a large range of societies which allows everyone to find something they are interested in.
Loved it here, definitely would recommend Brookes
Very interactive environment, friendly staff... all facilities are brand new
The university in some aspects is good but others it is awful. The help you get from some lecturers is very bad. They say they are there to help and they never do.

I had a really pleasant first year at Brookes. The staff were really helpful and the lr tires were really interesting.
I’ve really enjoyed my time at Brookes I’m now going onto my last year. I really enjoyed teachers who are passionate about the subject they are teaching whilst caring for the students and insuring they understand the subject. These are rare! And most likely are the programme leads for your degree but they are there!
The university has great facilities and the social side and sporting side is amazing, there are so many clubs to join (rugby is by far the best)
Great facilities and modern buildings but lacks good student union.
I’ve loved first year at Brookes and can’t wait for next year.
The university has fantastic facilities and high levels of teaching throughout most modules. Although, the university facilties are expensive, and there is not always adequate levels of support given to students for academic and non - academic affairs
Lol would give minus star about the union if if it were an option
I have had my best years at Oxford Brookes and am sad to be leaving. Highly recommend Brookes as a university as the facilities and opportunities available are incredible.
Probably one of the most fun universities to go to, eduroam (uni WiFi) is awful, student union needs work
Great experience if you find the right club/society to join
Lovely campus but no Student union so lack of university social life
Student union and societies aren’t great.
I’m so glad I came to this university! The best people and the best support I could ask for.
Facilities are great and lecturers know what they’re on about.
In comparison to other universities the student union is below average. It lacks things to do and the sports teams/societies lack inclusion
Offer many great opportunities and there is a great balance between academic life and social life.
Great experience in the engineering department but will be better once all the campuses are at the same place
Nothing short of amazing, fantastic people, some of the best facilities in the UK. Incredibly underrated.
Great university with really good night outs loads of fun clubs and societies Campus situated not so far from city center
Beware of the Harcourthill Hall staff. If you experience trouble with your flatmate, they will never help to intervene (eg theft, slobby people and noise). They are very rude and never use a single sympathy when you experience inconvenience (eg lost parcel/letter from bank).
It is completely unorganized ! The architecture school is terrible. The lecturer is irresponsible and lack of both knowledge and experience. If you come to study architecture here, you will surely regret!
Did Publishing with English Literature here and had a great time. The English and Publishing staff are all fantastic and made their subjects really fun and interesting. Publishing sent their own careers newsletter and have great links with the industry - there are a lot of media employers in Oxford. Careers are really friendly and can really help you with CVs, job hunting and interviews if you go and talk to them. There are lots of work experience / part time job opportunities. The new JHBB building is beautiful and the food and gym at Headington are great too! The best part was the choice of modules, you can do a bonus language module and even incorporate the odd module from outside of your degree (like I did with web design). The experience is really tailored to you and Oxford in general is amazing.
Worst university experience I could imagine! The only thing Brookes is, is expensive and for what? Nothing! It is completely unorganized and if you have any queries you better help yourself or no one will.
The uni has three campuses and the facilities are good, although there is no student union there are many clubs that are cheap. The communications, media and culture course is good, a variety of modules you can pick.
The brookes bus service is good. There aren't really many societies if you don't like sports. The union - what union? They exist but I have never heard of any events related to them. We get a careers email every week but the jobs are not at all made relevant to the course you are doing.
The majority of the lecturers are petty minded and disorganised. For example, the other day we walked into a lecture where the lecturer was still creating the lecture. Ends out he copied and pasted his lecture from another module I had taken and had a quick 2 minutes to alter the first 2 slides to make it look like he hadn't done that. There have been two modules so far that have been completely irrelevant but compulsory: Skills For Life Scientists and Research Methods. They feel like they were supposed to be statistics modules but none of the lecturers could really give a s***. DO NOT DO BIOLOGY HERE. There's maybe 2 lecturers who are inspiring and interesting, but unfortunately the rest really bring it all crashing down. The quality of teaching is pretty poor, and the attitudes of the lecturers is openly "I have better things to do than teach you".
Wifi speed fantastic. Large area space in library full of all useful resources for each course that is taught on that campus
Campus building is nice and new, but it's a pity the staff aren't! Poor administration (apathy) which is surprising considering most students are foreign and paying accordingly!
Wifi can cut out sometimes but 98% of the time its all good. There's a careers centre in the forum (central space) which is really helpful. Facilities like the library and the sports centre are great, food is kinda pricey though! SU is slightly disappointing, they really focus on sports more than anything else. There's lots of nationality and religious societies, and theres some political and other ones too, but not as many societies as other universities.
It's in the best city in the uk without having the work load that comes with the other uni in the city
Great university, fab location! Had the best time!
Oxford School of Architecture rocks. Brookes as a whole might be a medium range university, but the architecture department is excelling. Overall, good parts are that we have around four different eating places on-campus, a Starbucks and a small shop- which are incredibly helpful, the JHB building looks neat and the library is always open, day or night. On the other side, we are a bit short both in study places (such as the computers in the Forum, where is almost impossible to find one during lunch hours) and the architecture studio is always over-crowded, the accommodation is quite expensive (as anything else in Oxford) and the wi-fi often disconnects (although it works fine and you get signal almost everywhere, from the campus to bus and halls). The architecture department is absolutely amazing- the culture in the studio is unique and the whole program is developed in such way that you are constantly intelectually simulated
Is what it is. Our student union do try i guess but compared with other unis it is seriously lacking.
Brookes is an enjoyable uni with a very nice vibe. SU is poor. JHB is a great building, having wifi everywhere is nice and it's generally good, but awful in bedrooms.
Really love it hear no complaints yet other than the lack of a real students union
Great University Pathetic Parking. Areas where parking spaces are and are always empty, but you have to have a permit to get one, and if your not disabled then you can't, so everyone has to cram on Cheney lane, and you look over the barrier to Cheney Student Village and there's 40 empty spaces never used....
Most of the student body 'can't be bothered' with clubs and societies and if you are then you're in the minority. The student union almost purely exists on an advice basis, rarely organising events, there is a small bar big enough for no more than 30 or so people.
Nice and modern but the union needs to organise and advertise more fun events, not a wide variety of events on
A great new modern campus, a wealth of clubs and societies available with scope to create your own, a communicative Students' Union, and the fastest internet a student could want.
Very unfriendly staff! Cheney Student Village is the worst accommodation I could have received. It's always loud at night, so you'll get no sleep, which will most probably result in illness! Worst experience ever!!!
If you dont mind travelling 30 minutes into the countryside to attend your lectures at a converted WW2 bunker then brooke's is the place for you.
Love being at Oxford Brookes. The academic advisors, lecturers & tutors are all incredible and really make the courses enjoyable. The 24/7 library at JHB is another huge plus!
Campus is amazing. Clubs and socs are lacking - the union - well it's a union. Not used the career services yet and eduroam can be very temperamental on days
such an amazing place to live, learn and develop yourself. i feel inspired everyday coming to university here. if youre thinking about going to a university, please come to oxford brookes you will not regret it.
Overall I am very happy that I chose to come to study at Oxford Brookes. I love the campus as I feel it has a good balance of social and study aspects. The JHB building in particular has a variety of places to study as well as cafes/areas to socialise.
Great facilities, lots of F&B options (though the hours could be longer) and the library is quite well stocked. However, there isn't enough study space available.
Love the main campus, JHB for the win! Need more open computer space!
this university was nice. it had lots of stuff i had fun.
Friendly environment. Plenty of opportunities , good location , interesting lectures a lot of different activities
Oxford Brookes is a great university with good facilities and modern rooms. The food is varied with even an onsite Starbucks.
Welcoming staff Wifi/signal doesn't always work Good range of facilities Clean facilities
the main university campus Is very new and modem but the other campus are a little older and more tired looking but they have good library facilities.
Steady group of societies, all the facilities that you need, and awesome WiFi service. Student Union is a bit distant, though.
Well organised, great uni but the accommodation bureau were a nightmare - so unecisarily rude and not helpful
Great internet compared to AUS
The university has a lot of Starbucks which is always a plus. But the cafes on campus as well as the shop are all massively overpriced. The university spends momey on stupid things like a water sculpture yet don't spend it relating what's already broken.
really good main library and good databases. The town centre is good
Great, modern facilities where students are excellently connected with lecturers and other students.
amazing, fast paced and one big enjoyable experience
Love it. Oxford brookes is amazing.
Best uni around! Amazing city, social life and great student atmosphere
Very good looking facilities, however not especially functional. Science building is also lacking with little access to the newer facilities.
I've had the best experience here, met some great people. Oxford is a lovely place to live, there is lots to see and do. The university itself is good, improving all the time. Some courses are stronger than others
In my second year now and I can say that it's best experience ever, people are amazing, studies and Uni itself also very good, nightlife and social is awesome, no more to say!!!
Good wifi, nice accommodation, good overall
I have to admit that the city of Oxford is one of the best places to be in this world. It is very old and inspiring. There is a strong feeling that Oxford Brookes doesn't fit in this description though. The actual "feel" of the university is far from what you think of it before you come there. The student prospectus is a bunch of lies, so don't even bother reading this crap. This university is just a typical business that only cares about money and nothing else. The accommodation is unreasonably overpriced, considering what you get for your cash. The food they serve at the cafeteria is expensive, tasteless and unhealthy. My personal experience was horrible. My degree is in Project management. A word of warning to you guys, don't choose anything related to construction/surveying at Brookes. These courses are taught by ignorant ****s that couldn't make it in real life, having zero industry experience they decided to "teach" young people. Don't make my mistake and go to a good University
