All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Literally the most helpful team I’ve had in a student accommodation. People are lovely, there’re treats at the front desk almost all the time, things get FIXED. Loads of shops around, traffic into city centre isn’t that great at the moment (because of the bridge construction) but it’s just something that couldn’t be fixed in a short time. Overall 8/10 recommend

This student building is fantastic! Everyone here is incredibly friendly and welcoming. it is a really comfortable environment.
A perfect student accommodation and really worth for its value
I had the best time here. Very supportive staff and safe place to live at. Good amenities as well
A great option for student accommodation in Oxford, with a range of rooms at different price points. The communal facilities are a key advantage over other similar options (including a well-equipped gym and secure bike storage). Conveniently located in the new West Way Square development (with shops, cafes, a library etc.). Easy access to the city centre and train station by bike or bus. The staff are very friendly and responsive if you need any help. Suitable for both undergrads and postgrads.
Not a bad place, compared to large parts of Oxford's dormitories
This is the place to stay if you’re a student. It’s quiet, clean and you have your own kitchen. 10/10 recommend
It's always lovely to walk past reception to see Alina, Khaled and Dennis. They do the most to try and make my stay the most enjoyable as possible and if i have any issues they are all resolved in a timely manner. I particularly enjoy the events organised at West Way, it allows the residents to meet each other and come across people in other blocks which we may not have bumped into before, I particularly appreciate Alina, Khaled and Dennis for their dedication to bringing joy to these events, especially since they are taking time out of their personal lives to host these events, I am very grateful to them for that.
pretty nice experience to stay! Actually the traffic is convenient for the bus coming about 10min at rush hour, and it is really nice to have a cozy walking from the railway station to the University for about 10min as exercise! All the staff are awesome and friendly and kind! They help me a lot from booking to now living here! Also, the room is clean and comfortable, and btw very quiet and calm!
The staff here are nice and the building is clean, nice, and spacious, the rooms are very clean always and the staff always help when you need to. The maintenance are always on hand as-well and any problems are sorted within the day. There’s also always events for students to socialise and meet eachother from different universities. I lived her for 2 years and the standards have always been the same.
Well clean and peaceful environment to live in. Close by shops, which makes it easily accessible for us students. Spacious rooms and bathrooms. Staff here are super friendly and helpful. Perfect place for any year Uni students (Brookes Uni and Uni of Oxford), regardless of where you are coming from. Highly recommended !!!
Super well organized space - very well designed and comfortable. The team running the place is especially wonderful and warm and very accessible to resolve issues. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet comfortable space you can call your own!
Everyone is so welcoming when you first move in, all of the facilities are amazing and very useful, the location is perfect as it is right next to supermarkets and cafes
It’s good accommodation with multiple communal spaces to meet other students. Good location with a choice of local shopping facilities and public transport. I enjoyed having my own space with all amenities including a lovely terrace. Management- Alina general manager on site has been helpful and treats all the students with kindness. I highly recommend this accommodation especially for international students.
Best student accomodation in Oxford. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond to create an exceptional environment in every respect. The buildings are newly constructed and everything is built to a high standard, including excellent wifi, soundproofing, kitchen facilities in each flat, and spacious community rooms. Shops, groceries, restaurants, post office, hotel, and other amenities are just a few steps from the front door. The Oxford train station, the center of Oxford, as well as Wytham Woods and other countryside regions, are all extremely easy to reach on foot, bike, or bus.
I have lived in Westway Square for 2.5 years whilst completing my PhD at Brookes. In my experience, this is the best student accommodation in Oxford. The standard of accommodation is excellent/luxurious. The property is located in a quiet, safe and increasingly, developing/vibrant part of Oxford. A number of amenities is located within less than a 5 minute walking radius (coop, Tesco, a pharmacy, McDonalds and a great chippy - just to name a few). I used the gym for cardio workouts on a frequent basis; which was super convenient. I also enjoyed availing of the social spaces when friends visited. Particularly, the movie room and ping pong table. Alina has really succeeded in creating a friendly, welcoming environment at Westway square. The management are really communicative . It is really apparent that management works on creating a good rapport with tenants; which is appreciated. I genuinely couldn't imagine myself living anywhere else in Oxford.
In this year, I have experienced myself living in a luxurious hotel with great customer service. My rent is including bills and the price is very reasonable. Different facilities such as gym and game room brought me different experiences with my friends. I would love to stay for a longer time because the society is well-developed with different shops, supermarkets and restaurants. I would love to stay in this accommodation again if I have the chance to stay in oxford.
My stay at Prestige Student Living was fantastic! The rooms are very modern and the staff are incredibly helpful. The location is close to the City Centre and easy access to Brookes University as there are bus stops close by and many buses running nearly every 10 mins. Highly recommend for any student seeking a comfortable and supportive living environment!
Safe accommodation and well connected with public transport and all stores near by. I recommend this for all international students
One of the new accommodation in Oxford’ well maintained, staff response is quick and well. Maintenance response with in 48 hours. I feel it’s safe place to stay.
It is a nice place to live in, peaceful and all the staff here are very friendly and welcoming
Great accommodation with helpful management and 24/7 security, which made my studies and time here a lot easier. The accommodation has lots of common room spaces, clean and modern. The area around is pretty nice, not crowded or chaotic, with 3 supermarkets and a pharmacy. There’s a few delicious cafes, dentistry, beauty salon and even a flower shop nearby. Very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Best place to live if you are searching for secure, nice, clean and peaceful place to live. Definitely recommend.
It is social and convenient to live in, the comfort in this place is nice, very modern and new
We came for a viewing for a premium studio. Friendly staff, who showed us around the studio and communal areas, and answered our questions. A warm atmosphere.
Social space and gathering space is pretty good to hangout with friends and staff members are very helpful.
Amazing place, management is nice. Been living here since a year and have never had a problem
It a good accommodation with many shops around. There was some issues in the past with management but with the new staff - they are more responsive and very helpful and friendly.
Amazing accommodation, value for money and great facilities. Helpful staff, have rebooked for next year!
It is a great accommodation with many useful facilities nearby
I lived in West Way Square for almost a year now, and i have to say i was impressed by how well the residents are treated and how calm the neighbours are. A truly respectful place.
Amazing accomodation. Very new and clean facilities, so many social rooms. The media room has a massive TV, comfortable couches. Rooms are new and clean. 24 hour security. There’s 3 supermarkets on the same block, a Tesco, Coop and an Iceland. The bus stop is 2 minutes away walking. Cute cafe nearby, delicious fish and chips shop. Everything is continent, nearby, simple. Honestly great place to live. Electric hob is new and modern, microwave doubles as a mini oven. Lovely dining room with a full sized oven and big dining table.
I booked this because I wanted a room to myself with the current situation. These advertised themselves as exceptionally large rooms and to be fair they were. I was very happy with the size and how good the finish was. The communal facilities were a lot better then I expected and the staff are great. My only concern was the location as it wasn't in the town centre. However there is a bus stop outside which takes you to the centre.
