Great main campus and really enjoyed my time there.
Great facilities, lots of study space - both for groups and individual study. Nice variety of coffee/food outlets. Great to have a GP and Dentist on site, as well as the new Co-op
Lecturers and courses are great, however the University management is not committed to academia, but to money. I’ve seen appalling attitudes from the management treating students with contempt, ignoring their legitimate concerns over management negligence and breach of duty of care and equality. Also the university’s own procedures for complaints and giving students priority access to facilities shared with staff and public were not followed. Avoid if you can.
I can't speak on the other courses, but if you're considering taking Japanese studies here, don't. You will be much better off studying by yourself, taking private lessons (which you will get much more out of for a lot less than tuition fees, or choose a different university. You will waste your time here doing pointless work that adds to your stress and does not develop your language skills. Seriously, even if it's the only university that will accept you, don't waste your time & money here. Facilities: The main campus is just OK because they have a good library. Aside from that, expect to pay insane prices for any food, drinks, rent etc. The student accomodation is extremely overpriced and lacking. Even for Oxford. Basically, think quantity over quality. Shove as many students in as possible and charge as much as possible. The only cheap option (Harcourt hill) isn't fit to live in, students are constantly breaking rules with no consequences during the pandemic. Ran out of chars.
good space in room, big pin board good desk space, good storage space, right next to U1 bus stop, good view from window, very good community in the flat, bring ethernet cable as wired connection is over 700mbs but warless is around 10mbs
Go elsewhere if you can. There are some real issues with Brookes that aren't being addressed at all. Students bullied for complaining about abusive staff members, staff mis advising students, confrontational aggressive facilities staff in halls etc..
Needs a proper students union. Without one the staff know they can get away with not doing their jobs properly.
Staff on my course (Japanese Studies) were more interested in organising pretentious little seminars for themselves than learning anything about the topic they were supposed to be teaching.
Total rip off. Tricked into signing halls contracts and now its all online. Staff couldn't care less.
Left in week three when they cancelled all in person teaching for my course. They can shove their rent because the accommodation was mis sold.
Disorganised shambles. Students are totally ignoring coronavirus rules. I have a weakened immune system so am being put at risk. Why were at risk people not identified and put separately to everyone else? Brookes seems to have a completely unrealistic idea of the degree to which they can control everyone's behaviour. Rather than accept that they can't stop students meeting off campus, and housing vulnerable students in isolation, they prefer to throw tantrums and make threats, which are being ignored en masse. When I complain and ask to be moved I'm told that my flat mates are breaking the rules and that i should report them. Great, then I can be both at risk and hated by everyone in the flat.
Decent uni but the internet connection is terrible.
More interested in new buildings than quality teaching.
Overall its poor. Staff seem to have bad attitudes because they believe that they are overworked, underpaid etc.. They should probably go and get jobs in which they would be happier.
Total s***show. Never known anything like it.
The new building at the Headington campus is nice. Lots of computers and a good library. However the other two campuses are awful. One is just grey concrete and the other used to be a religious teaching school is like a maze dotted with religious statues. It doesn't feel like a university. There are no corridors and classrooms are accessed directly from outside. So in spite of the one nice building overall the facilities are very poor. The teaching quality is very mixed. Some courses have great reputations and the students seem happy. Students on others all seem to be very unhappy about blatantly unfair treatment and bad attitudes from staff, amongst other things. It's probably better to avoid Oxford Brookes unless you're very sure that the course is good. Oh and don't judge things by the National Student Survey. Brookes have set their Email system to treat nominations from the NSS as spam, so students never see them. The tutors then selectivity ask students to fill it in.
A lot of the comments here are unfair. There are a lot of good staff at Oxford Brookes. People here are focusing on the negatives. It's widely known that certain staff members and constantly the subject of complaints. It takes a LOT before problem staff members are dealt with. This needs addressing because it is damaging both to students and to the university as a whole. It is unfair for the reputations of a few well known bad apples to taint the reputations of the many great staff at Oxford Brookes.
Yeah. Most of the staff here just aren't fit to hold positions of responsibility.
Great university, although each campus is very different and quite far apart. Each has their merits and their downfalls but as a masters student, quality of teaching was very good.
As others have said, its a joke.
The new building is quite nice.
A great university rather let down by a poor students union.
It isn't as bad as some are making out on here. There are some good teaching staff and the student union advisers do try to help. The administrative side isn't great.
A shambles. Incompetent, hostile staff.
A complete joke. Badly organised. Student union barely exists.
I am a postgraduate student at Brookes - Headington Campus and comparing my experience there with my experience as an undergraduate at a different university, my views are following: Amazing, friendly and helpful staff, very hands-on learning, beautiful & spacious campus with plenty of amenities (cafes, bars, Brookes-made takeaways and sandwiches, sport facilities, great library, IT support, IT equipment, etc.). Very helpful Careers Centre and Student Central. Wast range of clubs and societies. Student Union is okay, however in comparison to other services and options Brookes offers, sometimes takes rather long to respond or does not get quite to the bottom of the problem. Generally, my experience at Brookes has been great so far and coming to study there has been one of the best decisions of my life!
A complete joke. Arrogant incompetent staff.
Need to improve and pay attention to Clubs, societies for international students to have a place to socialize and connect with other students. Except for that, everything is great!
Architecture and buildings are amazing
Great facilities at OBU, free bus service is major plus too
Food is relarively cheap, internet and wifi works perfectly. Libary is very comfortable and system well managed.
Great uni but lack of communication during COVID problems.
Good university with lots of facilities.
The facilities and faculty at Brookes is pretty good. Though the courses aren't always what they should be. I found the social aspect of the Uni amazing but oftentimes felt myself frustrated and lacking what I expected the University's academic side to offer.
Brookes is brookes. Nothing to special, but it dose the job.
Great campus with helpful staff.
The uni is excellent and has incredible facilities! Clubs and societies are good too if you make the right friends, some can be quite clique-y but you get that anywhere. The SU isnt as active as it should be but Ox Events makes up for that! Careers are extremely helpful when you go see them, however the website needs a lot of help haha, poor poor poor wifi 3 years running..

Enjoyed my time and would highly recommend
My experience was fine but it was not the place for me ended up transferring after my first year unfortunately
A great university with good facilities.
It was an amazing experience staying in Oxford
Great University and faculty members. Really met all standards and promises.
Pay £9000 per yer to be treat like s*** by the dregs university tutors.
Unless its for automotive engineering I'd go elsewhere. Failed academics can be quite spiteful.
Not great. But of course it depends on your course. A lot of the admin staff let the place down with a hostile attitude to anyone who causes them to have to actually do their jobs..
Great Campus with lots of facilities and amazing settings for all moods
I was enrolled at MSc Quantity surveying online degree. I started my program 2 weeks late as they had some IT issues, couldn't catch up with my studies. I had questions posted on the student forum, the professor replied after 4 weeks after I complained to my student advisor. They just take your money and offer 0 support. I had to quit after 4 months. I strongly recommend avoiding Oxford Brookes.
Amazing university. Had a bowl of a time in Oxford.
Very good University with some highly qualified professionals
Wifi is good Internet is so fast
Hello my name is Tom Clayton and I think this university is bad.
NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO
Joining societies helps you meet a lot of different people.
I was a student at Ms Quantity Surveying. It is a huge sham.Arrogance and unprofessionalism.
Brooke's was okay. I enjoyed my course, facilities are good apart from limited space. Food is overpriced on campus, but what can we expect. Union doesn't really do much, societies are not good. Eduroam is actually slow, you would be lucky to have a good connection. BME students make up a small percentage of the university so if you are like I was, just be prepared for it. Overall my experience was okay
The wifi is pretty useless, always cutting out. Societies are more concerned in popularity and horrible initiations than anything else. The campus facilities are pretty great but the campus is over crowded and there is very little space to study when you have deadlines. Not a lot of people know the student union exist, they should hold more events that engage students. Careers are good but a waves team would be so much better received by first and second year students to be more informed about placements.
Main campus is pretty good, other twos (Wheatley and Harcourt Hill) are in terrible locations, and Wheatley is unbelievably dull. Mind numbingly dull. Decent nights out, wifi is whack though. Student union is helpful, but no student union nights out.
Socially the life of Oxford is amazing as there is so much to do!! The careers facilities as the university are very good and definitely would recommend for students to go there for help during your time at university or after you have graduated. The Internet is good considering how many students use it but may disconnect now and again.
Good facilities, great library with a great selection of books. Terrible clubs and societies, never heard anything from them after signing up; and terrible selection; there is no international society?!
The university is modern and offers a wide range of courses. The forum is always busy and there’s not enough seating! The library is well equipped and you can usually get the book you need.
The student union is close to non existent with food and drinks costing the same as a non student bars/restaurants. That being said there is a great variety of food on campus albeit at an unreasonable price. Fantastic careers service and a good nightlife but be prepared to pay no less than £5 for student entry. Internet and wifi in the library cannot cope with the huge number of students at peak times.
Student Union is okay, but a bit uninvolved. The societies, I've heard, are fun, but of the two I tried I didn't get into one and the other closed down. Internet is largely okay, and the library is amazing.
Union is awful and seems like a facade. Uni Wifi is good except in the forum when its busy. Societies as a whole are good but honestly depends on the society. Campus is new and still being renovated so everything feels modern and Gender neutral toilets. Awful disability/Wellbeing service to the point where for some people its a constant struggle.
Amazing uni, best experience ever
No real support from tutors and career advisors when I was going through a really tough time with mental health
All the gear (except sports facilities) no idea
So much fun but they over complicate everything (such as registering for things online)
Finished first year - been a brilliant experience so far
Best. Uni. Ever. So many opportunities for students, socially and academically. Fantastic sporting societies too.
Really enjoying my first year, Brookes only gets the slack it does because it’s overshadowed by the uni of... in any other city it would be seen as a class uni
Incredible teaching and staff. University is lacking somewhat in quality sports facilities. Big downside is the move of exams to the King’s Centre which is at the other end of the city.
Not enough study space but great sports, societies, halls of residence and really good facilities and lecturers
I love the business school, in which I am a student. The projects we take part in and lectures are extremely helpful in expanding my leaning experience and skills. The lecturers are also extremely knowledgeable and happy to help. So many opportunities available!
Great place to study, with a modern environment.
Wonderful uni life, great societies, excellent facilities
Amazing place to study and work
If you’re studying on the Headington Campus (the brand new main one) you’re in for the best 3 years. It’s got everything you could possibly need from a uni plus it’s super fun. And if you’re doing anything to do with a built environment degree (eg architecture, real estate) then its a pretty great place to be taught.
overall good uni would recommend
I love Brookes, they go out of their way to help you with work, whether you have simple questions or more difficult ones.
Most of the buildings are new and very pleasant to work in. There needs to be more areas to work in as during semester it can be hard to find anywhere to work as it's full.
Overall a great university experience in Oxford, and would recommend to anybody.
Good fun. Good facilities and new campus is great
I really good modern university with caring, helpful staff. On the whole teaching is robust with regular feedback given to students. However, the student union could be a lot better, and more assistant in a variety of ways could be provided for students regarding finance, as Oxford is a very expensive city to live in, and as well, the facilities provided by the university are very expensive.
Amazing university with great people and incredible facilities and student union!
A pretty modern campus on a whole, with some good facilities and good opportunities.
Such a great uni, brand new facilities, direct contact with academics who make solving issues easy to do. Great events and nights out, many social activities. Great sports teams and socials. Small classes
Uni is clean, modern, spacious with brilliant facilities. Perhaps struggle for good WiFi in the main building and sometimes struggle for a seat but good all in all
WiFi is temperamental - they should really fix that. Student union seems obsolete but I don’t really know what it does anyway.
Honestly I’m so thankful for this university. The course has been amazing and they have helped me through so much mentally and academically.
Lovely campus, but WiFi is awful
Lovely facilities to learn in and the teaching Staff are always helpful and friendly - just wish they had better student accommodation options!
All the university cares about is money. Student wellbeing is poorly looked after. Student suicides covered up. Wardens on campus should not be students. Communication is lacking throughout both academically and through campus life.
I love the university! The lectures are so helpful and supportive, always go above and beyond to help the students.
Great university to attend, recommend
Great uni with great facilities and a good environment to pursue your ambitions.
Good university with a great support network
wifi is poor but overall the uni is gr8
Lecturers are great and want to help! Work spaces are easy to find with a place for everyone and anyone!
Unite students are not good at all. They act illegally and are extremely rude. I understand that Brookes works in partnership with Unite Students. I urge the university to end this partnership.
